Hello from Milwaukee! Pattie - Instructional Technology Specialist- my #oneword for 2019 is present, as in I need to be more present and in the moment (especially with my kiddos) #BmoreEdchat
HI! Lisa - ECED Special Educator at Lakewood. I've been trying to decide, but my #OneWord2019 is celebrate. We celebrate the progress our students make and I'm trying to expand that to more parts of my life. #BmoreEdchat#Baltcityschools
A1: I started with living in the moment and embracing the hype of the holidays. After Christmas passed, lots of time spent napping, quiet, and introverting. Ended with a trip to NYC! It was a nice balance of energy, stimulus, and stillness. #BmoreEdchat
Hi #BmoreEdchat! Leanne, ESOL specialist in Baltimore. My #oneword2019 is PRIORITIZE, as in knowing and remembering what’s most important in work, home, and life.
The flight from the US to Japan was about 13.5 hours...but we also had another short connecting flight before that. Just got back last night (Japan time)—currently very jetlagged! 🥴 #bmoreedchat
I started The Lost Education of Horace Tate, read parts of a few books that I'm presenting for the Early Learning Office, and my son gave me the Prequel to GOT - I've turned into someone who has multiple books going at once. #BmoreEdchat
A2: I try to first spend time reflecting on my strength and growth areas. My dad always taught me to make a t chart. Once I visualize my growth areas, I try to pick the one or two which invoke the most fear and excitement. #BmoreEdchat
A2: I determine goals by staying focused on my North Star: the kids. Each choice I make as an educator runs through the filter of: is that what's best for kids? 💗🌟💗 https://t.co/u4aSQQEJz5#bmoreedchat
A2: I am Type B about most things- I'm not the type to sit down and make a list; often my goal-setting comes in the form of pursuing the desire to try something that's scary. Ex: Facilitating PD, book clubs, etc. Sometimes you just have to jump! #BmoreEdchat
A2) in my position my goals are based on observations, surveys, and discussions with teachers. These things together allow me to see where the holes in my practice are and work to fill them so all teachers and students feel supported. #BmoreEdchat
I agree! BUt there is definitely value in taking the time to reflect and record those types of thoughts; I'm just terrible about remembering to do it! :) #BmoreEdchat

Q2: In the past, I focused mostly on quantitative testing data. This year I am focusing more on the qualitative. What does it feel like to teach and learn in my classroom. #BmoreEdChat
A3) I feel like this year my accountability person has become our new curriculum director, Melissa. She’s been awesome about both talking and listening, which really helps me focus on growth. #BmoreEdchat
A3: My students are a great accountability partner because they don't forget anything and they love to remind me. Also my wife @kait013087 always keeps me on track. #BmoreEdchat
A3: There's a wonderful leader I've crossed paths with who I share dreams/goals/hopes with. She also helps nudge me when I need the push, and helps me make a path or find it when I'm no seeing it or think there isn't one. #BmoreEdchat
A3: When it comes to professional goals, the students are the best accountability partners we could ask for. How are they feeling, growing, and learning? Those answers let me know if I'm staying the course. #bmoreedchat
A3: @kstoryscotti is an motivational accountability partner in my school! I also look to @EMerriman1234 to help me see the positive when I have a setback. #bmoreedchat
My team teacher! I teach reading and she teaches math. Together, we are team and are responsible for all our students growth! She's the best accountability partner ever! #BmoreEdchat
And she listens without judgement. She is genuinely interested in hearing my ideas and offering constructive feedback and guidance when needed. Truly grateful to be part of her team. #BmoreEdChat
A2: always about reflection. At this point in the year I can look back and see what’s going well and what’s not. My goals are to fix what’s not working and improve on what i am already doing well #BmoreEdChat
A3: One of the beat accountability partners is your students, if you tell them your gonna work on something or change something, they will let you know if you are not! #BmoreEdChat
A3: I like to share goals with many people to keep focused on progress. For example, I set a goal to visit 170 schools this year, and I share updates with those who work with me. Also, more of that sharing is coming soon for my team: sneak peek. #BmoreEdchat
A4: I try to break down my long term goals in smaller steps to ensure I don't fall behind but also so that I can reflect along the way. This is more mental timelines than a written schedule. #BmoreEdchat
A4: I think so! I try to begin with the end in mind. What are my hopes/dreams? What do I need to do to get there? Helps to know where I'm headed. My challenge is sometimes what I want changes along the way! Still learning to be flexible & not view that as a negative! #BmoreEdChat
A4: have to break down my goals. It makes continual progress happen and gives me a sense of doableness and accomplishment along the way. Big things won’t happen all at once and a lot of goals arent gonna be met if you don’t have ways to check in and stay accountable #BmoreEdChat
That's why I've become a list maker. I used to start out strong, stop for a while, and then finish in a mad rush as deadlines approached. It's something I need to consciously do. #BmoreEdchat
It’s similar to unit/ lesson planning. #ubd where do you want to go? How will you know when you’re there? What am I gonna do to get there everyday? #BmoreEdchat
A3- Faith-based answer. I have a prayer partner that helps me stay focused on the mission, and is intentional with checking in on how things are going. #bmoreedchat
A4) I’ve gotten into writing my goals as action plans. It requires me to make a timeline and a list of any other people that need to be involved in the process. There’s also space for reflecting on the process and making necessary changes. #BmoreEdchat
A5- Growth mindset is critical. Always striving to be better personally and professionally. Anything that helps me grow for my students is a win. Having that mindset keeps the focus on the goal and makes it attainable. #bmoreedchat
A5: I'm having trouble answering this one without being absolutist. But I'll be brave and say it. I don't think you can achieve the latter without a mindset open to growth and change. #BmoreEdchat
A5: I think I struggle between using a planning mindset and an innovation mindset, knowing which to use when, and when to pivot. Both are important. #BmoreEdchat
Q5: Mindsets can affect how ambitious goals are both based on whether they reflect the urgency of needs and whether there’s confidence that you can really do big things. I’ve seen how the same or similar goals can motivate some and paralyze others. #BmoreEdchat
A5) Mindset is important because you have to consistently seek out the quick wins and positives to build resiliency and mental endurance in a school year which is long, hard, emotional, and personal work #bmoreedchat
A5, continued: I'm also aware that my definition of success may be different than another's so maybe it's not a necessary component? If we aren't being brave and constantly evolving, are we doing what's best for kids? #BmoreEdchat
A5: Not only is it important to have a growth mindset, but we also need to be able to acknowledge our successes. It's easy to focus on how we can improve a lesson, revise materials, etc. It can become overwhelming if we are too self-critical. #BmoreEdchat
Part of growth mindset is no fear of failure. We will make mistakes. Sometimes plan A isn't going to work. Happens to everyone. Growth mindset keeps you focused on the goal, in spite of set backs. #bmoreedchat
A5: #BmoreEdChat A growth mindset that is not adverse to failure is imperative. Success relies on information gathering, goal setting, action planning, implementation, reflection, and creating a plan for next steps.
A5) you have to be flexible and have a growth mindset. Goals are a living thing - you often have to change and adapt the process or practice in order to reach the goal. #BmoreEdchat

A6: #BmoreEdChat In January, I will contact at least one parent a day with a positive message about a scholar and this school year, I will balance my work and personal life.
