The #michED chat is a grassroots effort dedicated to giving teachers, students, and parents across Michigan a bigger voice in the conversation about education in our state. We welcome all voices through a variety of projects, media, and social networking. We’re trying to address educational issues through apolitical conversation, spreading ideas and stories of success from Michigan classrooms across the state, and helping teachers and students regain the courage to connect and demonstrate that schools in Michigan are creating amazing opportunities for learning. We want the face and voice of education in Michigan to be a mural of shared experiences and positive examples of connected learning.

Hello! My name is Madison Tedora and I am a Elementary Education and Child Development teacher candidate. I am excited for my first chat tonight! #Miched
Q1/A1: What makes me love teaching is seeing the lightbulb effect goes off in a students mind when they start to fully understand a problem! #miched#loveteaching
A1: My kids. The ones whose lightbulbs I watch flash on in class. The ones who have permanently invaded my classroom years after they have my class. #LoveTeaching#miched
A1: I #LoveTeaching when I see the Ss take their learning to that level of understanding where they take it home and drive their parents crazy. Your son talked about pencil diameters for his 3D printed pencil holder the whole ride home? (Bonus round for the teacher) #miched
A1: My students for sure. Becoming a teacher is one of the best things I have ever done, I get paid to teach/talk about things that I am passionate about AND help make a difference in the lives of many. Plus, it has made me a better father. #miched#loveteaching
A1: When I become a teacher, I think I will really enjoy working with kids who enjoy coming to school and interacting with others! #michED#LoveTeaching#TED108
A1: Being able to inspire kids in all different ways is one very important part of teaching I am excited for. I want student to enjoy school along with getting the knowledge they need from myself. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
A1. When I am teaching, I love being able to interact with the students and make an impact on their day, even if it has the slightest impact. I also love to see the light bulb turn on when the student understands a topic for the first time. #Miched#LoveTeaching
A1: I #LoveTeaching for when the students come together as a whole ensemble to make music. Students start to realize that all of their individual pats are connected to each other. #MichED
A1: What makes me love teaching is being able to watch my children grow and learn. Knowing that I can make a difference in my students lives and inspire them makes it even more rewarding. #miched#loveteaching
A2: I have to give a shout out to a few people who made me love teaching:
Mrs. Drake
Mr. Hunter
Mr. Haywood
Mr. Claus
Dr. Frost
S.E. Lewis
They all inspired me to fall in love with learning, and helping others. #miched#loveteaching
A1: What makes me love teaching is being able to watch my children grow and learn. Knowing that I can make a difference in my students lives and inspire them makes it even more rewarding. #miched#loveteaching
A1: The kids for sure! Getting to see kids see their successes and growth is so empowering for them and so motivating as a teacher. #loveteaching#MichED
A2: I truly loved teaching when 3 students crashed my wedding after my first year teaching. I am still in touch with those goofballs 13 years later. We learned and grew through a tough year, and I mattered to them. #miched#LoveTeaching
A2: I was a college student on tour with the UM Men's Glee Club. My host family's child was struggling with factoring. She showed me her method, I suggested a different approach. #lightbulb. I was hooked. #miched
A2: I started to #LoveTeaching when I was a student aid for my High School Band Director. I was helping the 6th grade band with anything and everything and loved it. #MichED
A2: My 3rd grade teacher really played a role on my decision when choosing to become an Elementary teacher. I hope to follow in her footsteps on being a positive role model for kids to look up to! #miched#LoveTeaching
A2. When I was younger, my mom would bring me in her classroom and I loved watching her. She always made the students laugh and had a smile on her face at all times. I knew from then, that I wanted to be in a classroom like her. #Miched#LoveTeaching
A2: My mom is a math teaching at Columbia Central and listening to her talk about how much she loves it inspired me to become an educator. Also, Mr. Johnson is definitely the second person who made an impact on my life in many different ways. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
Haywood/Claus/Frost grew my love for history. Hunter/Drake taught me to love myself and help others. Lewis taught me to pursue my dreams. #miched#lovelearning
A2: After I wanted to become a teacher, I revisited the classrooms and situations that I liked the best.
Dr. Coppola at UM
Mr. Matthews 8th grade Algebra 1
Mr./Mrs. Westerman my MS/HS choir conductors
Mr. Packard my H20 Polo coach.
I try to be like them. #miched
A2: Working with kids with special needs as a peer mentor in high school. The experience opened my eyes to new classmates, special education and passionate educators #loveteaching#MichED
My class is MakerSpace. The Ss are constantly asked to create things and explain their thinking and design intent. When they realize I don't have the answers and want to learn with them, they tend to explore a bit more so they can share the "right" answer. #LoveTeaching#miched
I think my biggest accomplishment would be having students come back and tell me how I impacted their education and life. That is something I want from all my students because I know those are the teachers I really liked through my education. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
A2: My 3rd grade teacher really played a role on my decision when choosing to become an Elementary teacher. I hope to follow in her footsteps on being a positive role model for kids to look up to! #miched#LoveTeaching
A3: When I get really into a lesson I start singing the content in musical form, dance, jog around the room, cry, laugh, etc. I have no issue with putting myself out there. #miched#loveteaching
A4: That I don't quit on them. That I let them struggle, but I am always there to support. I have goofy stories to share, but I listen to what they say. I show respect. #miched#loveteaching
A3: My students would say I get loud. I get passionate. I love to talk to them. I invest a lot of my time in events to improve my students’ experience. #LoveTeaching#miched#lifelessonswithtanner
This one happens sometimes when you least expect it. And we have to keep in mind that impact is still there even if we don't hear about it. #MichED#LoveTeaching
I think my biggest accomplishment would be having students come back and tell me how I impacted their education and life. That is something I want from all my students because I know those are the teachers I really liked through my education. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
A3. My students would be able to say that I love teaching because I will be participating in every activity that I have planned. There won't be a time that I am sitting still. I will create an environment where we are always laughing and always smiling. #Miched#LoveTeaching
A3: That I don't quit on them. That I let them struggle, but I am always there to support. I have goofy stories to share, but I listen to what they say. I show respect. #miched#loveteaching
A2: My 6th grade teacher Mrs. Weigand was the person who inspired me to first become a teacher. She made her classes very engaging and made all her students want to learn. That is the type of teacher I hope to be for my students. #miched#loveteaching
A3: Coming to work every day excited and bringing in a positive attitude about teaching is one way students can tell I love teaching. Showing that I care about their education and being someone they can talk to is also very important to bring into the class. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
A3: My students could see that I love teaching by the positive attitude that I bring into the classroom each day and that I am always there to help them the they need it! #MichED#LoveTeaching
A3. My students would be able to say that I love teaching because I will be participating in every activity that I have planned. There won't be a time that I am sitting still. I will create an environment where we are always laughing and always smiling. #Miched#LoveTeaching
Yes. It can be a little disheartening for new Ss because they don't realize they're supposed to fail b/c nothing ever turns out right the first time. Many projects have to occur before ah has occur. But when those light bulbs go, the Ss are off and running. #LoveTeaching#miched
A3: The students that I have taught know that I #LoveTeaching because I care enough to help them through the process of learning all the parts of music and not just saying "that's good enough." #MichED
A3: Coming to work every day excited and bringing in a positive attitude about teaching is one way students can tell I love teaching. Showing that I care about their education and being someone they can talk to is also very important to bring into the class. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
A3: My students see my passion whenever we cover a new topic. The fact that I don’t stop moving and I often jump around like a crazy person is a good indicator of my passion and excitement.
A3: I hope my students will be able to tell that I love teaching through the way I create a positive environment and the passion I generate in my classroom. #miched#loveteaching
A4: This is tough. Colleagues hear about your good days and bad, and at times we tend to share failures more than successes. My colleagues know I love teaching because I will never give up on our Ss. #miched#LoveTeaching
A4: Taking on new opportunities, being willing to work extra hours (coming in early to help Ss) and taking on big class sizes for electives because you don't want students to fall behind. Collaborating and presenting new ideas for PD too! #miched#loveteaching
Hi! I'm Amanda Bailey, a pre-service teacher at Siena Heights University. My major is language arts with a focus in elementary education! I'm really excited for my first Twitter chat, I've never done one before. #MichEd#LoveTeaching

A4: Love collaborating w/peers. I follow several ed tech blogs and I often share new ideas with others that fit their needs (music sci soc studies whatevs). I really love all the subjects and love when students start to find their direction--no matter what subject. #miched
A4: Being involved with school clubs, functions, etc. Bringing in a positive attitude every day to work, not complaining about colleagues or students, and bringing in new ideas. It shows you love teaching through different actions and your attitude. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
A3: I hope my future students would say that I #LoveTeaching because I'm willing to work individually to help them succeed and enjoy music like I enjoy music and I will push and challenge them to do their best at all times! #miched
A3: “Not taking yourself too seriously” is so important. Self deprecating humor and making mistakes allows students to trust you and open up #MichED#LoveTeaching
I remember looking up to the energy of other teachers myself. It really set the stage for what it meant to do great work in teaching. #MichED#LoveTeaching
I love our teacher's lounge! We eat! We laugh. We vent. We try to "figure out that kid". Sometimes negative. Always supportive. Mostly refreshing! #miched
In reply to
@MR_ABUD, @GeorgeHistory, @TannerLovesTRo
A4: My colleagues know that I #LoveTeaching because we all are talking about how to teach more effectively. Sometime these conversations will involve four people and take an hour or more. #MichED
A1: What I love about teaching is making an impact in a child's life. Whether it's seeing them experience that "Aha!" moment, seeing them smile as they graduate to the next grade, or simply being there for them when support may not be found at home. #miched#LoveTeaching
A5 My PLNs both on Twitter and Facebook, blogging, working out, and my kids! I take everything with a grain of salt, bad days happen...how you react defines you #miched#loveteaching

A5: Recognizing the negative impacts around me, within my inner dialogue, and making a conscious effort to remain positive within the waters of what cannot be controlled. #MichEd#LoveTeaching
A5: When it becomes difficult to #LoveTeaching I stay positive by knowing I am helping and making an impact on students lives. I just always remember that I need to be strong if I want my students to stay strong too! #MichED
A5. When times get tough, I remember the good times that I have had throughout. I also remember how hard it was sometimes in soccer and by pushing through those times, it made me stronger and tougher. I relate teaching back to soccer in that way. #Miched#LoveTeaching

A5: I have to focus on what is going right. It’s easy to lose your #LoveTeaching attitude if you disagree with ed policy, politics, school initiatives, etc. But something is ALWAYS going right with the kids. #miched
A5: I becomes difficult to #LoveTeaching when one class either has boundless energy and is bouncing off the wall or no energy at all and it feels like I am trying to pull teeth to get something done. The next class restores my love though. #MichED
A5: I found that not being stagnant or idol helps. When I'm static, perfectionism is at large (chicken & the egg thing). When I do something I begin to feel empowered. #miched
A5: #miched
Bummed I can't make it to MACUL this year but MACUL is a magical place with so many energized ppl.

A6: A recent event that has reminded me why I #LoveTeaching was our Drum Major auditions. I love making music and seeing the auditions reminded me that as a director leading and teaching the ensemble is another way to make music. #MichED
A6: I am tutoring in a 4th grade class @ Prairie Elementary school, & the teacher I am working with is Mrs. Taylor & she is just phenomenal. She goes out of her way to make sure I am learning something every day. The way the students look up to her amazed me #MichEd#LoveTeaching

A3. I believe that when my future students are asked how they can tell that I love teaching they will respond with saying they can see how enthusiastic I am about learning and they they can clearly see this is something I truly love. #LoveTeaching#miched
A7: Everyone goes through their own struggles every single day, but it doesn't define who they are. Just because they act out or say something they don't mean, doesn't mean that's who they are. Understand you don't know everything they go through. #MichEd#LoveTeaching

A7: We're all just figuring life/work out while we go. We have bad days. Reflecting on them to make the next day better is imperative. Also, it's okay to fail. It's okay to show failure. It's okay to be human. Acknowledge the good and the bad and do better. #LoveTeaching#MichEd
A2) I would say my third grade teacher had a big impact on me going into teaching. I actually looked forward to school every single day because I was curious as to what activities she had planned for us that day. #MichEd#LoveTeaching

A7: One of my professors said "When the mind is willing and the body is ripe, learning will occur." I tell myself this when I cannot grasp a concept and I will be telling this to my students. That and practice is how you know if learning has occurred. #LoveTeaching#MichED
A5. When teaching or even school in general becomes difficult, I start thinking about how hard I have worked to come as far as I have and how I cannot let one small problem tear down everything I have worked so hard for. #LoveTeaching#miched

I add to this, when the Ss are trying to figure it out and it isn't clicking: "It isn't their fault. We just haven't found the way it makes sense for you...yet. We'll get there."
We must always remember that mistakes are part of learning. Celebrate learning from them. #MichED

A7: A friend and colleague from the early days of my career showed me what balance between personal and professional life should look like as a teacher. I’m grateful. I don’t get it right everyday, but I #LoveTeaching more when I take time for myself and my family, too. #miched
A7: Getting organized! I'm a very messy person, and I was floundering a bit when I started going to university. I was really stressed. Looking at how organized my classmates were, I took note and made changes- now I can just sit back and enjoy the program. #miched#LoveTeaching
A6. A recent event that has reminded me why I #LoveTeaching is when I was observing in a second grade classroom and a student mistake me for a sub. he was so upset and it made me glad to see how important a classroom teacher is to their students. #miched
