A5) Home visits! They help me really connect with kids & families. Also, finding a few minutes to spend with a S at school without any academic demands & just let them talk. Important moments. #OREdChat
A5: You can’t see their realities without taking the time to get to know @ build relationships w/Ss. Talk to them outside of the classroom, get to know their hobbies, quirks, and what makes them tick. Then create a safe space for them to flourish in the classroom. #oredchat
Had planned to write for a magazine or something. Dad convinced me that a BS in Ed English major and a BA would not matter to get a writing job and the BS would allow me to teach if I wanted. First job as a T came one day in October. Wow. #OrEdChat
A5 Spend time with them outside of class (recess, lunch) and just chat, ask questions and show true interest. It's amazing how much they'll open up when you listen. #OrEdChat#BeTheWildCard
A1: I always try and find ways to apply my standards to the outside world to really make it relevant for my kids. I’m dramatic and over the top. #TheWildCard#ORedChat
A5: I invite struggling students into the classroom for lunch to work on stickers, 3D printing or engraving. I get to know my students. I also walk & drive around the neighborhood. Science and engineering are not the most important things learned in my classroom. #OrEdChat
And there are figit spinners in the treasure chest along with shells and gold coins...they love the beanbag chairs...has changed the office quite a bit... #OrEdChat
A5: Getting to know your students is so important. I also allow them to get to know me. I tell them things about my life so they know me. Since I only see my Ss for 50 minutes once a week I feel this is something I have to do to form relationships. #OrEdChat#BeTheWildCard
A3: I chose education because my WHY are my kids. I want my kids to be excited to learn so that they become life long learners. I want them to be excited to walk through my door everyday and know that what we are doing matters, that they matter. #TheWildCard#ORedChat
A4: I write down my ideas. I literally have notebooks full of ideas. I talk to my kids & reflect on what works & what didn’t. We make decisions together as a family. Being transparent with them helps them take risks and share their ideas and learning goals. #TheWildCard#ORedChat
A5: Building relationships are essential for this to work. Knowing your students and showing that you genuinely care. We use leadership notebooks where students plan personal, educational, and leadership goals. We conference and discuss our progress 1:1. #TheWildCard#OrEdChat
