Welcome to #Nt2t! Today’s topic is “Using social media to work collaboratively at school”. Questions for today’s chat are here & on the photo cards. #nt2t
Introduction: Time to introduce yourself! Tell us your name, where you are from, your role, and at least 3 adjectives to describe your experience with collaboration. #nt2t
A1: I share new things I’ve learned from Twitter in the ebb and flow of daily conversations at my school - I also always tell those I’m sharing with how AMAZING it is to connect with other educators and that I’ll be OVERJOYED to help get them going with it!! #nt2t
So... I’m a parent, so I think of this a little differently. I model use by being here representing the parent voice, and I’d hope those with different roles in education would do the same. Talk about and promote what you’re doing on Twitter. #nt2t A1
A2: Think we see lots of pros (time saving, individualized tasks, …). But there are cons too - data security, hate speech and cybermobbing are the first things I thin about.
#nt2t
A1: We have a P.A. day and one of the things I will be advocating for is #socialmedia. We will also be presenting our ideas to our network of schools when they visit us. #nt2t
The elephant in the room is distraction. We should acknowledge that. But if they’re engaging with one another, they’re practicing focusing on a purpose with a goal, and building a partnership technologically (for when they’re not there in person). Do it the right way. #nt2t A2

I created a Wake for this #nt2t chat to provide some ideas about working collaboratively. And I will add some resources given during the chat. Here you are:

A3: environment is an important partner for every teacher. Creating an inspiring atmosphere - providing all things students could need and give enough space for creativity - that’s not easy. #nt2t
A3: Energizing, all ideas have merit, mutual respect, everyone participating, learning/growing from the strengths of others, exploring new ideas together, and FUN!! #nt2t
One that includes different roles at the same table—admin, teachers, support staff, and STUDENTS—the biggest stakeholders of all. That doesn’t mean not providing the space to work with immediate colleagues, but don’t neglect opportunities to bring in all voices. #nt2t A3

"Collaboration is a coordinated, synchronous activity ...
Cooperation is accomplished by the division of labor among participants as an activity where each person is responsible for solving a portion of the problem.

Inside or outside a classroom, I see cooperation as helping others and collaboration as working together toward a common goal. They both have their place, and if students learn the distinction they can begin to understand what strategies to use. #nt2t A4
Working can consist of different parts and phases - cooperation, collaboration and sometimes individual. Most important is that like a puzzle all parts are matching at the end. to built an „image“, a product . #nt2t
Speaking of coming back later, I just saw this! I agree, and also think it takes some good social navigation not to make it seem like you’re dredging up old stuff. So there may be a time limit within which this is effective. #nt2t
I feel like the answer is “all the time,” though competition has its place as an incentive. But it’s particularly important to work together when you have common goals—think IEP meetings, at which people with different roles develop solutions for a particular student. #nt2t A5
A5: school is like society. So don’t compete. Work together. Thats our human superpower. Let’s train this superpower at school so that we have a peaceful and creative society. #nt2t
Those that facilitate conversation (why I love Twitter!) @Voxer has been useful for planning, for simply talking back and forth over geographic distance. And it can be helpful to use any app that has the capability to send messages to groups. #nt2t A6
A5: As teachers we should always keep in mind that we are responsible not only for our subject with its knowledge but also for building characters of our students. We have influence on them. So use it right - to support togetherness. #nt2t
A6: google drive, Cloudschool, evernote, onenote, lots of games - let your students create games for other groups/classes of students. Thats’s kinda learning with fun. #nt2t
This week’s challenge: Try to inspire colleagues by sharing one project of collaborative work you want to implement this school year.Don’t forget to include the hashtag #nt2t.
