#BadgeChat was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChat was born.
A1: my biggest goals are around time...Being mindful of it, honoring it, and definitely not trying to sneak one by or cheat on it.
Students seem really focused on DOING stuff, not just talking about it. Loving their bias toward action
#BadgeChat
A2: most people do a better job of meeting expectations when they know what the expectations are. When it comes to reaching our goals, monitoring our progress is like a cheat code
#BadgeChat
With this chat, I know it's been 13 minutes and I have 17 to go. Makes it easier to see the final goal and have confidence I'll make it... With an open ended, lonely conversation, I'd be more likely to quit:)

A3: Making goals + progress visible offer some people accountability. For others it can be a helpful social and communal exercise. And for others, it can really help with sense-making, so that we can wrap our heads around where we want to go and how we will get there

A1.
Be better at relationships and goal setting with my teachers. We’ve set school goals, but I want to know their individual goals and what I can do better to support them.

A4: For many, recognition is the WHY. It's the artifact in the fridge. It's the 🏅 at the end of a race. It's the certificate that acknowledges my accomplishment that I can share with others #BadgeChat
A2. Vital
We need to track our progress and reflect so adjustments can be made as needed to be most effective with our intentions and actions. It also makes it easier to share our goals/ideas/progress with others who may show interest in what we are doing.

Yes!!! Really dig this notion that visible progress sharing as a social act can help drive powerful connections with others traveling the same path. #BadgeChat

Visible data allows us to see if what we are doing is working or needs adjusting.

@TatMaylor You make me wonder about systems that allow for visible "heat maps" of goals within a community that members may use to connect with others who share similar affinities #BadgeChat
Gracias to @TatMaylor for chatting! And to the Lurkers who engaged in your own active ways, we appreciate and value you. And my apologies for the pacing and lack of images... This is tough to do from a building that blocks Twitter

It’s a greater influence than just talking about it. Many people want to see the “real world” effects before implementing themselves. Nothing wrong with that. Some people sprint, some people want to follow. Either way is progress, as long as we doing it for the kids.
A4
It helps validate their effort. We know why we do what we do (the kids), but it helps remind us others see us, appreciate us, and agree that our heart is at least in the right place. Even if we don’t meet our goals or they don’t pan out the way we imagined.
