Busy day of learning ahead with my Kindergarten students! Had a very enjoyable weekend with my wife...and spoke with both of our girls, who live away from home now. #bfc530

No MLK day here in Brazil, but as a school, we have been organizing service projects for our Ss. We have some parents that are very involved in NGOs, which helps as well. #bfc530
In Ontario we have mandatory 40 hours of volunteer work in order to graduate.
And a Civics course in grade 10 that promotes being an informed, active citizen.

We do not do a good job of this, nothing organic from the kids. We used to have a school spirit contest, where some teachers would cheat to win. My students boycotted it by wearing our rival colors. They tweaked the rules of the contest after that. #bfc530
I’m not a morning person, but I’m starting to think I need to get up earlier and be productive instead of waking up as late as possible. #bfc530 Go forth and be productive!
We have a Builders Club and some teachers are connected with outside organizations where they will have students doing things with those orgs but it seems the number of students participating is small #bfc530
Amazing! We do one each year as well. My class did not so well but a few kids made a point to donate in my class.
Last year my #ELDmath class ran the food drive for the whole school, counting $ & graphing donation counts.

We have a spirit club that is very active - right now they're working with the national deaf school. And our MakerSpace focuses on creating things that help - for now, solar lights to fight light poverty in our underserved neighbourhoods #bfc530
One teacher has a tree where they hang mittens, gloves, scarves, and stocking hats on it during Christmas, and then donate them to a homeless shelter. #bfc530
I’ve been talking for years about giving back to one’s community. I bought these cards: https://t.co/f7pbPsrlGY I plan on challenging my Ss to engage in acts of kindness. #bfc530
Oh no 😣 any course where a community service project could be implemented?
Or start a "students for change" club like my school @RHSS4C to do community projects.

I'm planning on doing a project for a Houston teacher, but I'd rather it be organically organized, instead of forced upon. I may suggest it to our #geniushour students. #bfc530
True! It’s good to finish the day chatting to like-minded people. Helps to reflect on my own day! #gratitude is an important part of what we do as professionals. #bfc530
Love that.
Our #LinkCrew does a community cleanup hour with our grade 9s each year. We pick up litter 🚮 on paths around our school, in local neighbourhoods & local library campus.

Our elementary school is connected to the high school, so there is always some sort of collection going on, but not a lot of volunteering (elementary side). I need to open my eyes to focus for some local opportunities. #bfc530
Just found this group! We do a character blitz week in February where all non-sports groups are celebrated and one day of the week is used for groups to use a school day for service. #bfc530
