Good morning, #nt2t and #EduGladiators - I’m a kinder teacher from Texas attempting to chat with you both because I don’t want to miss any fabulous learning!!
Hi, #nt2t! Since your topic today is digital citizenship and I'm literally at the Digital Citizenship Summit, I've scheduled some answers. Follow the #DigCitSummit, part of #DigCitWeekend, throughout the day and find more info here: https://t.co/fzFV0NP30N
So many chats happening right now! #nt2t Kanako here, joining in for the second time. Loved last week's chat :) 2nd year teacher. 4th grade ESL Specialist in Vietnam :)
Steve HS principal from Indiana, coming back to this #NT2t chat to introduce our new teachers to the power of twitter. I remember being on the left side, but this chat specifically got me to move. Now I'm on the right side.
A1) There are a range of views on what constitutes digital citizenship. To me, it's the actions and behaviors of citizenship in a digital world: Your role in your local and global community that is inclusive of digital spaces. #DigCit#DigCitSummit#nt2t
Hannah from northern VA here, co-mod of #Nt2t and today's moderator. Elem/Sp Ed, former 1st grade T, currently home with the toddler. First social media I used was https://t.co/06zTlYFdbZ...that was awhile ago! #Nt2t
A1: Digital Citizenship is a concept that helps us educators understand what students should know to use technology appropriately. This is what it means to me at least! #n2t2#NT2T
A1: To me, digital citizenship means participating in online conversations, exchanging opinions with people across the world in a harmonious way.
Digital citizenship is learning to behave online. #NT2t

There lots of keyword which fit in "Digital Citzenship" - I would prefer to see it more as global citizenship and not only focus on tech.
#nt2t
That balance of time is definitely an important piece! Being a good digital citizen is important, but we can't neglect our real world citizenship! #Nt2t
A1: To me, digital citizenship means participating in online conversations, exchanging opinions with people across the world in a harmonious way.
Digital citizenship is learning to behave online. #NT2t
A1: I think digital citizenship is understanding how to use the internet/tech appropriately: how to interact with other people, how to find information, how to represent yourself, and how to manage your tech so you still have a real non-digital life! #NT2t
A1) Digital citizenship = having an online presence and connecting with people all over the world. A good digital citizen, just like any citizens of a community, knows how to interact with others in a positive way. #nt2t
Hello, Elizabeth I'm a librarian from Guernsey joining in. A1 Digital citizenship means me being able to talk, connect and learn from experts all around the world. #Nt2t
Yes, digital citizenship as related to global citizenship! The internet/social media has made the world smaller and so our actions affect others more readily. #Nt2t
I like that you said responsible. I think teachers are such ideal examples to students. So when teachers are good digital citizens, the students will be too. #NT2t

A1 - Teaching Ss to be safe and a good person while online. It is crucial they learn the Do’s and Dont’s on being a part of the online community. #NT2t
A2: Good citizenship - good character....it's not separated by platforms or tools or location :) We should always strive to model excellent character traits in any situation #NT2T
A2) Many characteristics of good citizenship are similar in online and offline spaces (both "real world" in different ways). But your online imprint is unique and must be cultivated, as it can be culled as a snapshot of your identity at any one time. #DigCit#DigCitSummit#nt2t

#nt2t
A2 - I don’t believe it does. If anything, we should strive to be better than we are online now. Anonymity is unfortunately viewed as the right to say or do whatever they want... #NT2t
To me it just means using the Internet responsibly and respectfully. Not using anonymity as a reason to say things that you wouldn’t say in the real world. Students need to realize that their digital footprint is important and trackable, so they can be critical but considerate.
Hi everyone! I think we are all modeling digital citizenship here. It’s about community building. Understanding hat we all bring something to the table that anyone and everyone can partake in. #nt2t
A2: Good citizenship is similar online and offline. It unfortunately is easier for some to be negative online and we need to learn to be positive in every venue either online or in "real life". #n2t2#trendingthepositive#NT2T
A2) Both as digital and real-world citizens, we need to be responsible, respectful, and empathetic. Digitally, you are connected to more people globally so you need to be more mindful of that too. What you say online (positive or negative) could go viral! #nt2t
A2: digital is part of our real world. So you can't separate it. And if you see the speed of digital transformation then you know that the importance and influence of digital citizenship is growing in the 21st century.
#NT2t
A2: There are similarities. For example, online or off, we shouldn't be an asshole.
But I think digital citizenship requires a lot more caution. What we say and do online is online forever—and that means we need to be extra careful and mindful of our activities. #NT2t
A2 I think that there should be no difference. If you would not say it to someone's face it should not be said. Unfortunatley a lot of people hide behind the screen and get 'brave' and this is poor. #NT2t
A2: It starts with real world but definatly goes hand in hand. The consequences in the Digital world of "misbehaving" are more permanent globally and cannot be erased with a "time out" #Nt2t
A2: You hear stories about people who have their real world affected by their digital world, and vice versa. As @seni_bl pointed out, they are so interlinked at this point in history. #Nt2t
A2: You cannot take things back after you say them online or face to face! Either way, good citizenship is critical to keep this world a wonderful place! #n2t2#NT2T
Q3: How do your daily actions impact your digital footprint? How can this be used to help your students understand the concept of digital citizenship? #NT2t
As we talked about at #parentcamp with @JeremyDBond, privacy is largely an illusion anyway, anonymity is not infallible and is mostly a false sense of security. #Nt2t
A2 I also think that the written word can be taken out of context. Writing it down lacks facial expression and voice. What may sound funny in your head can be read in a different way. More care needs taking when writing online. #NT2t
We often think unfiltered. SM allows direct access to those thoughts. We often share without fear of feedback. Would you say this at the dinner table? DigCit teaches us about our "footprint". #NT2t#wsntpd
I'm more 'brave' online than I am off, but in a good way like initiating conversations and engaging with others. The digital space helps a lot of introverted people embrace their potential. That said, it's also too easy to misuse it. That's what we should be wary of. #NT2t
A3: I believe that we need to model positive citizenship with all of our students, staff, parents and community members in our daily actions and statements and show our students that this is the same online. Positive connections are critical! #n2t2#NT2T
A2: and don't forget it's more than speaking. Most important is your acting, your attitude/responsibility to world problems and how to solve them. Digital media open ways to connect people globally and work together to find solutions for #SDGs#nt2t
A3 If you write a blog or use social media is this something that you would be happy for your students to read. It is not alright to behave in a way that you would not want your students to see in real life. Lead by example, simple! #NT2t
A3: My daily actions are modeling behavior for my students all the time. I use several digital spaces like pinterest with my students, create a group board and oversee and model there, hoping they will learn what it can look like. #Nt2t

definitely more than speaking. Our actions, nonverbal and verbal are key as well. attitudes about everything in our daily lives filter over into our teaching. #n2t2#NT2T
Oh I so agree! I found my voice through social media. I now write a blog that is followed by a lot of people and that would never of happened without being brave. #NT2t
Completely right. Think that's a great advantage of digital communication - you have more time to choose your words and the possibility to change something before you release your text. Good for introverts! #nt2t
A3: When students see good examples of digital citizenship on a day-to-day basis, they understand it better and in the right way.
I'm amazed at how some educators use technology in positive ways, and involve students in online conversations. Like hashtags and chats. #NT2t
SM gives everyone a voice. Voices are meant to be heard and seen. When you see someone reacting to your voice you make a judgement about how it's being received, and you respond accordingly. W/O this communication loop we risk going unchecked. #NT2t#wsntpd
Q4: Most of what we read about Digital Citizenship focuses on the negative. How can we teach positive Digital Citizenship to younger generations? #NT2t
I have often write my blog when I have been annoyed about something. I never post immediately and use this over a week to edit and come up with ideas and solutions to the problem then I share. Works for me :) #NT2t
Amazing time with us!! Our last question Q5. Do you know different apps, website or digital tools to work #SDGs at school? Tell us your story! Join #EdChatEU to build a better world!
Love that. It's so easy to vent out when emotions are high. But when we give it some time, put some space between when we write and when we hit publish, we get a lot of perspective. #NT2t
A4) Drop the notion of digital citizenship as what NOT to do -- or even what you're supposed to do. Focus on how your online activity makes you feel (h/t @julnilsmith), and on presenting the best you. Empower kids to cultivate their online presence to their benefit. #DigCit#nt2t
A4: This is a great question. First, we need to model the positive digital citizenship through positive attitudes and positive actions on and offline. #n2t2#NT2T
A2- A digital citizen has to be more mindful of words/actions as both can have far-reaching consequences. My advice to #digicits:
1. Mind what you say
2. Mind what you do(cliking on links/opening attachments/befriending strangers)
3. Mind what content you create & share #NT2t
A4: There's so much conversation online about digital citizenship. We need to bring that inside the classrooms as well—students shouldn't learn to stay away from the internet, they should instead learn to identify the good aspects of it. #NT2t
A4 lead by example. Showing them the good that it can do. There are some fabulous examples of children who are digital leaders in a book called SocialLeadia by @JCasaTodd A great read! #NT2t
A4) Again, model the use of good technology use in the classroom. Give Ss time to practice in the classroom. Give resources for Ss to access from home too! #nt2t
yes for sure! I know many parents that try to keep their kids off SM. The world today is just so digital. We need to teach the youth how to use it in a positive manner. There is so much for them to learn in the digital world. #n2t2#NT2T
Yup. A lot of parents (and even some teachers) see only the negative aspects of social media. That needs to change. Social media has become a major part of our lives and denying that isn't going to get us anywhere. #NT2t

A5 Respect, caring, communication are just some of the concepts. We use tools like Flipgrid, Padlet and Hangouts to give real world audiences and children step up to the challenge and learn too. #NT2t
The digital world makes for better interactions among the three -Teachers, parents and children. There needs to be some guidelines though to promote a positive and productive environment. #NT2t
The only reason I got onto social media was my children. I could not say no until I understood it. There are ways of keeping them safe but understanding it is the best way. #NT2t
Q6: What are some ways Twitter (or other social media platform) could be used in the classroom to teach digital citizenship to students before going online? #NT2t
Wonderful chat today everyone. Thanks for letting me join. Love the resources and information I am learning. Hope to continue to learn with all of you. #n2t2#NT2T
With my keys making things frustrating, I'm going to leave early this morning. Thanks to all for an amazing talk about an awesome topic, so thankful for this community! #Nt2t
Tweets will keep tweeting, & I will view it all later!
A6) Have them moderate a Twitter chat a la @MrsMurat! Have daily classroom tweets from the kids, first delivered from the teacher, then give them the reins, supervised. #nt2t

Thank you for having me and setting me up last week with some wonderful groups that I enjoyed this week. Have a wonderful week everyone....soccer calls #Nt2t
A6: Discussing something students learnt in class—maybe through Facebook comments, or a Twitter thread. Both will help students learn how to have a conversation online without overpowering one another. #NT2t

Q4 - I am a teacher candidate and have just recently joined Twitter. First time on this chat and looking forward to coming back again! To me, positivity and digital citizenship means using social media to help each other, encourage and build others up in any way we can #nt2t
Challenge: Tweet your favorite digital citizenship resources (lessons, go-to people, apps, etc.) you have used or discovered. Include #NT2t in your post.
Well, I can't wait to see the rest of what all of you've had to say in today's #nt2t chat! At this moment I'm on a panel at the #DigCitSummit in St. Louis, where @iWomanish and I are focusing on parenting in the digital age -- one of many areas of #DigCit we can chat about again.
