Each Monday evening at 8PM EST, music teachers get together and share ideas about important topics within music education. It’s a great chance to interact directly with educators from all over the world and to get new tips and tricks to help you succeed in the classroom. The entire #musedchat discussion is organized and moderated by Joe Guarr.
A1- not much- our Musical is always in March and I try to mention it but other than that I don’t have many plans. Hoping to get some easy to implement ideas! #musedchat
The Grunch from Beat by Beat Press. Grumpy kid hates musicals and tries to sabatoge the show but his heart ends up growing 3 sizes. Super cute! @bbbpress#musedchat
A1: My students are all making their own instruments. I started doing this last year- it’s a lot of work and a lot of extra stuff in my room, but the kids really love it! #musedchat
A1: an end of the month assembly where all my kids sing together (K-4), a “music madness” tournament and music ed facts on the daily announcement. I usually invite parents to come to class but I have a student teacher and I didn’t want to put that pressure on him. #MusEdchat
A1: Here in Canada MIOSM isn't celebrated. Instead, we have one day(the 1st Monday in May #Musicmonday) where Music Ed is celebrated and participation is coordinated across the country. #musedchat
A1 Neither the band director or I planned anything special for this month, though I wish we would have. In a school without general music (but with a weekly Mass incl hymns) our Ss get plenty of music but not a lot of exposure to formal programs #musedchat
8th grade - Anthem For Winds and Percussion, Tribute, Aces of the Air. 7th - From out of Nowhere (manuscript), Beyond @sircalebhammer , and Moscow 1941 #MusEdChat
A2: It feels like a big deal for other #musiced people, but not as much outside the subject area. I'd like to see it recognized by larger edu orgs. #musedchat
A2- it can be. I would love more easy-to-implement events- maybe a music madness that all schools vote on or something like that?? I do like that it helps Music teachers share why Music in and of itself is so valuable. #musedchat

True, they are also members of the community. I still think it is important to remind them that music doesn’t “have” the good kids, it “makes” the good kids #MusEdChat
I have a friend that used to hold “flash mob Friday” and would just show up random places in the building with ochestra classes and play whatever they were working on. #musedchat

A3 one pipe dream: a state or national org commissions a piece from an up and coming composer, distributes to it's membership for loads of performances during #miosm#musedchat
A3- I kind of already answered but I am all for low-prep, high impact activities that can fit into any music curriculum from GM to an ensemble. Connect elementary to MS to HS and Schools across the country (and globe). #musedchat
A2: #musedchat Not sure how effective #miosm is. Sometimes other opportunities arise that have more impact on the community. We have a District-Wide Arts Night in late April that features both music performances & visual art displays, which is well-publicized & attended.
For me, ideally #miosm would be a month full of large scale collaborations. Why not do an annual virtual ensemble? Or Skype concerts across the country? #musedchat
