TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
We will use a Q1, Q2…format for Questions during #TnEdChat . Please use the A1, A2… format for answers and add a gif or meme to visually support your answer
A1) Since I am a coach, I'm not sure. =) But as a teacher, I wanted any guest to know that we are focussed on important work. All voices are important. And failure is an opportunity for change. #tnedchat
So important. Academic coaching is still very new. Gaining Ts trust is vital. But getting them over the hurdle of knowing that I'm not judging them can be quite a roadblock. #tnedchat
A2 we both take responsibility for tracking and measuring growth. If as a coach I am not digging in and getting dirty too...buy in is not there #TnEdChat
A2 I keep a lot of digital portfolios. I also include audio and video feedback. I allow the academic coach to share as muc h as they like to see. It's a good role model for my students about getting feedback and helps me grow as well. #TnEdChat
A2) We use several tools. Our Ts use a common formative assessment for their essential standards. They report those scores via spreadsheets. They also use them to determine groups and instruction within those groups. #tnedchat
A2b it is so vital that the data the academic coaches see is the same data that the teachers get to see. Transparency clear communication and common language are positives for everyone.#TnEdChat
I have this dream of a software tool that brings data from multiple sources together to pinpoint student areas of achievement, growth, and need. It would show info on all progress on a 55" touch screen. #tnedchat =)
A3) Many of my Ts have a lot of incentive programs in their classrooms or grade level. We probably need to celebrate those achievements better on our website and youtube channel. #tnedchat
I think one of the hardest things about data for most is looking in multiple different places at different kinds of reports for the information. I think the more concise, the more accessible, and the easier to use that the data is the more likely it will be. #tnedchat
A4: The best part of being an academic coach is digging into those things that Ts don't have time to do. I love solving their problems. No matter how simple or complex. Service mindset is essential for coaching. #tnedchat
A4 the best thing about having an academic coach is having another set of eyes in the classroom. It's a good opportunity to talk about best practice and share ideas. #TnEdChat
A1) I want them to recognize the Ts depth of knowledge for each student’s progress & the relationships they have built academically. Notice if they know where to hover & when to help. @Gregbagby#tnedchat
A2) They track their own. I have outlines for each benchmark and they record quiz and test grades for each topic to learn strengths/weaknesses. Helps them learn how to study and gauge their understanding. #tnedchat
