Q1. TO PROMOTE LIFELONG READING HABITS, TAMMY AND CLARE ENCOURAGE US TO HAVE STUDENTS HELP TO ORGANIZE AND CURATE THE CLASSROOM LIBRARY. HOW DO YOU INVOLVE YOUR STUDENTS IN THIS PROCESS? #BookCampPD
A1: I always organized by genre before. One day my kids asked to reorganize and I came back to a colour coded library. It was fun and we stuck with it. Kids learned spine colours and would tell others, "Oh it is a blue one" haha #BookCampPD

A1: Love the way this teacher has the students make the labels and hangs their book reviews right next to the baskets in the classroom library. When kids are involved in curating and organizing the library we promote engagement and book love. #BookCampPD

A1: I believe that in order to inspire our Ss to be lifelong readers we need to maintain a variety of #DiverseKidLit in our library. Ss need mirrors that reflect their identity and windows to new perspectives and cultural views
#bookCampPD
A1 Make it a plan. Talk to them about libraries and books. Have a couple of "class librarians" that rotate each week. My kids know what's in the local library because they are interested. Kids know if you involve them. #bookcampPD
A1 I haven't because I work with K-5 in small groups all day. Hard to have input from that many Ss in limited amount of time. Could ask for suggestions, though. #bookcamppd

Greetings- a have a few class “librarians” in each rotation that maintains the locations of the books and check them in and out of our school library #BookCampPD
A1 Our classroom library has a basket of favorite reads as well as must reads. Our school library showcases different interest books that students love. #BookCampPD

A2. At 2 different schools where I was a principal, we challenged different MS student councils to conduct book drives and we supplied SC with free pizza party to winner. TRUCK LOADS of books were donated! It allowed the schools to give away books all day/every day #BookCampPD
A1. You can use a Google Form for this! It can be on your class website and/or on a QR code in your room. When students find a book they think they’d enjoy, they can send it to you this way.
This is what I do for our classroom music library :) #BookCampPD

A2. When the truck loads of books first arrived at the school, teachers were given a few days to go through dozens and dozens of boxes to pull out the one's they wanted for their classroom libraries. #BookCampPD
We love that teachers invite us into their classrooms to learn alongside them. Please send the photos of your classroom libraries. The more we share, the more we all grow #BookCampPD
A2: Asking on Facebook! It’s surprising how many families are more than willing to clean off their shelves once their little one gets older. #bookcamppd
Q2. CHAPTER 5 SHARES A VARIETY OF SUGGESTIONS FOR PURCHASING BOOKS FOR YOUR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES. WHAT ARE SOME CREATIVE WAYS YOU HAVE FOUND TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF BOOKS IN YOUR CLASSROOM LIBRARY? #BookCampPD
A1 I always seek my children's ideas abt how to make their library their own. But, honestly, this past year was my best ever when a new student tackled it after seeing her older sister do the same for her 4th grade classroom. Ownership is everything! #bookcamppd
A2. We also posted fliers at local businesses requested the community to donate children's books and offered to come pick them up if need be. #BookCampPD
A2: I also love the Half Priced Books clearance section. This is where I found all of my Magic School Bus books for $.99 - $1.99 each. They match the NGSS standards well and my MS Ss still enjoy them. #BookCampPD
A2: Is just spending my own money creative? LOL we are limited in my division. No donors choose or crowd funding allowed. I take advantage of scholastic and buy book clubs from thrift books. #BookCampPD

A2: The Book Love Foundation gives away classroom libraries to K-12 teachers. Applications are due March 15 - https://t.co/bzOtKQnrZm All of the royalties from our book go to this worth cause. #BookCampPD
A2. It's not creative... Just ask. The Supt the system where my kiddos go to school did just that and has been traveling around to all theschools this summer with the #SuptBookMobile handing out books! Local group in town asked, had a 1 day drop off point 3700 books! #bookcampPD
A2 When I first started teaching, I created my classroom library from personal books, and books purchased at garage sales, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Now I browse Half Price Books. #BookCampPD

Kimberly the same goes for me. I have groups for 30 minutes, in and out. Plus I don't have a room big enough for a library area. i have a couple of shelves of books that I grab from if I think of a book a kiddo would like or I bring it from home. #BookCampPD

A2: I’m grateful for @DonorsChoose!
I’ve been able to provide a ton of great books to my ESL students
I’ve also looked into our local classroom grants, like @cabccef#bookCampPD

A1: I have students let me know what books they would like to see to make it ours. I also work with our local library to get bins of fresh new titles rotating every month for students to read. Each class is different, so I used @DonorsChoose to get books for the kids! #bookcamppd
A3. Please note, in order to access these resources you must own a copy. One of my favorites was OR 8.1 Access to Free Digital Resources. I would be so excited to share this list with my PLC just before year began so we could have more books for students to read #BookCampPD
A2 Ps and grandparents are invited to gift a book for a child's birthday & put a special label in the front honoring them. During book fairs, we have a class list of our favs, too. #bookcamppd
A2 we write ours and publish on lulu .. pretty sure this year the goal is for each student to publish their own book. 💥 a few pics from book Signing Day where authors signed their published work. #BookCampPD

A3. Another one I think many teachers would appreciate was within OR 7.3 Organizing Books to Teach Genre and Structure - a list of titles for Ss to read when Ts guiding lessons in "compare/contrast." #BookCampPD
A2) Our local library has a used book store where prices are very low ($.50 per children's book). Twice yearly they have a big sale where you can fill a bag for a dollar or something similar. #BookCampPD

A3: We hope our online resources of lists of text sets inspire you and your students to create text sets together. The best text sets are the ones created collaboratively #BookCampPD

A3. Be sure to purchase this book, "It's All About the Books" so you too can access all of the amazing resources waiting for you online that have been mentioned by others answering this question. https://t.co/vjTveEuo1v#BookCampPD
Friends and family know that I’m obsessed with books, so I usually get Barnes and Noble or Amazon gift cards for my bday. I also just applied for Scholastic’s James Patterson grant. I go to thrift stores and library book sales. I scored all of these for $7.50! #BookCampPD
These online resources are fabulous and would be such a time saver for any teacher. Hope others will purchase the book if they haven't already done so just to get these resources and benefit from the info within the book too! #BookCampPD

A3 First, buy the book. I have already shared it as a suggestion multiple times this week. Then, encourage your colleagues to use the QR codes... They are ALL great. The QR's are the next step. This is not just a "Think Book" it is a DO!! Book. #bookcampPD
A3: Has anyone tried Kids Need to Read grants? This is a program that provides free books & literary resources to schools & libraries. To be eligible for the program your school must serve at least 50% of children living at or below the national poverty line. #BookCampPD

A3: We could do a professional development sharing session over donuts and work on Google Drive to add titles that our school Guided library has in a shared drive. #bookcamppd
A2: We have a grandma who runs a huge yard sale for our teachers. Earns over $5K which goes to Ts to spend as they wish on books and classroom materials. #BookCampPD

A4 Since I loop w/ K/1, I have a huge collection of bks. Kids also keep about 5-10 in their personal book boxes & rotate them home. On book turn-in days (Tuesday), we might be circulating 250 books. I'm always looking for insights on keeping books somewhat organized! #bookcamppd
Sunday, July 15th begins our focus on "From Striving to Thriving" by @Stephharvey49 and @AnnieTWard - Want to check out the schedule for each day of the week. Just follow hashtag #BookCampPD and respond to the questions. Super excited to have you join!! https://t.co/cn0PP2rMgn
At the end of the two weeks, when the guest author of the book joins us, two amazing educators with the greatest daily participation will win a book, they select, from the remaining #BookCampPD chats. Be sure to share posts each day!
We find that we only have a portion of our books in the classroom library at a time. Instead of having everything out all year, we put some away and continue to introduce new baskets as students learn and grow. #BookCampPD
