    Question ONE #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:37 PM EST
Question 1: What learning experiences do you create for your learners so they can build persistence and perseverance? #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:37 PM EST
My maiden name is Keys! šŸ¤Ŗ#makeitreal
    In reply to @TheStephenKeys
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:37 PM EST
Ahh! Thanks for popping in. You and @teachlovesci have the same favorite! #makeitreal #coolrunnings
    In reply to @MathDenisNJ, @teachlovesci
  • teachlovesci Jan 31 @ 9:38 PM EST
A1: In my class the struggle is real and failing is learning. Students are in charge of solving their own problems--from "I lost my notebook" to lab questions--and realizing it's okay to not know but it's not okay to give up...that's when the magic happens! #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:38 PM EST
A1 Any opportunity for my Littles to experience the process over product nudges them to persist and persevere. New challenges that are just out of reach are important for them, too! #makeitreal
  • MrPStrunk Jan 31 @ 9:38 PM EST
A1: I build activities that create authentic products and force them to apply their knowledge instead of just spitting it back to me. Requires a lot of persistence because for many of them this is one of their first exposures to this kind of work. #MakeItREAL @LCSCoach
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:39 PM EST
A1 My fave comeback trend that my Littles' are really having to be persistent with--the @Rubiks_Official cube! No removing stickers to solve it. They have to learn the algorithm! #MakeItReal
  • MathDenisNJ - Moderator Jan 31 @ 9:39 PM EST
A1: I give math opportunities that switch away from "I do, we do, you do" to " you do you do you do...i fill in what's left." @desmos activities are great for this. #MakeItReal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:39 PM EST
Such a great point! That authentic piece really matters doesnā€™t it? #makeitreal
    In reply to @MrPStrunk, @LCSCoach
  • WPMadden Jan 31 @ 9:39 PM EST
A1: The idea of corrections. Having Ss work through problems with feedback from me until they figure it out. #MakeItReal
  • MathDenisNJ - Moderator Jan 31 @ 9:39 PM EST
Next time we're in the same place... we're watching it! #MakeItReal
    In reply to @teachlovesci
  • MrPStrunk Jan 31 @ 9:40 PM EST
As an adult I have never made a powerpoint for fun or a collage for work, so why would I ask my students to do that? #makeitreal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes, @LCSCoach
  • PreK33 Jan 31 @ 9:40 PM EST
A1: My "littles" are now practicing how to write their first names on dry erase pockets each day. They are getting so much better!! I just want their names to be legible when they go to Kindergarten! #MakeItReal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes
  • TheStephenKeys Jan 31 @ 9:40 PM EST
A1. For every gold medal there was hundreds of try's and failures. Dont give up. Keep going. #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:40 PM EST
Ooh. I like this shift. #makeitreal
    In reply to @MathDenisNJ, @Desmos
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:41 PM EST
And love that you give them the opportunity to make those corrections or adjustments in their understanding! #makeitreal
    In reply to @WPMadden
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 31 @ 9:41 PM EST
A1: I moved away from I do to Ss do. The next thing I did was move away from story specific questions on tests. They do a literary analysis on a story we read together for practice, then for the test they do same analysis but with a new story they haven't read. #MakeItReal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:41 PM EST
Or filled out a reading log for a book youā€™ve read....#makeitreal
    In reply to @MrPStrunk, @LCSCoach
  • WPMadden Jan 31 @ 9:41 PM EST
It's so worth it to see when they grasp and understand that it's not okay to give up. #MakeItReal
    In reply to @teachlovesci
  • WPMadden Jan 31 @ 9:42 PM EST
I have wondered the same. I think I would have had a growth mindset at a much, much earlier age. #MakeItReal
    In reply to @MrPStrunk
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:42 PM EST
Thatā€™s a great illustration of mastery! Did the learning transfer? Love this. #makeitreal
    In reply to @SteinbrinkLaura
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:43 PM EST
Question 2 is coming up in one minute! #MakeItReal
  • sdtitmas Jan 31 @ 9:43 PM EST
A1 Woah, this is a great question. I feel like any lesson that promotes risk taking and pushing past what students think is possible boosts these skills. #makeitreal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes
  • teachlovesci Jan 31 @ 9:44 PM EST
    Question TWO #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:44 PM EST
Q2 How do you ensure your learners' interests become a part of their classroom success? #makeitreal
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 31 @ 9:44 PM EST
Still working out the kinks, since I make my own materials. I am mad at self for not thinking of this before. The state exam for my 10th graders isn't over stories they've read...#MakeItReal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:44 PM EST
Itā€™s so hard to teach Littles that failing IS learning. We are starting to celebrate the failure over the successes we see. Funny mindshift but I think itā€™s working! #makeitreal
    In reply to @TheStephenKeys
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:44 PM EST
Your role as a Pre-K teacher is CRUCIAL! Thanks for what you do! #makeitreal
    In reply to @PreK33
  • teachlovesci Jan 31 @ 9:45 PM EST
A2: Listen to NBA YoungBoy. Let them draw their whole family tree on the board. Put a bball hoop over the trashcan. Learn your learners, like really learn them. Sponsor that club. Laugh with them & yes, roast them a little! Invest in their lives, let em know you care. #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:45 PM EST
A2 You have to be relational to get to know the interests in the first place. For me? Conducting morning meetings with fidelity ensures I'm getting to know my Littles' talents and passions. #makeitreal
  • MathDenisNJ - Moderator Jan 31 @ 9:45 PM EST
A1: in reflection, don't forget the value of having students take inventory of what they did well, not just mistakes. They'll persist when they see progress. #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:45 PM EST
Right! I donā€™t understand why all teachers donā€™t put the bar JUST out of reach. Learning is uncomfortable! It should be! #makeitreal
    In reply to @sdtitmas
  • WPMadden Jan 31 @ 9:46 PM EST
A2: Relationships, relationships, relationships. Get to know Ss and make content relevant them. Be open to various ways for Ss to show their learning. #MakeItReal
  • MrPStrunk Jan 31 @ 9:46 PM EST
A2: Student choice. You can absolutely have students do some things, but on other assignments, let them show you what they know through their own strengths. I am working through building menus to give students different choices to be assessed. #MakeItREAL
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:47 PM EST
Iā€™m watching you as your Momma but as a fellow educator and you are navigating this so well. At the end of the day? Itā€™s how you made them feel. #makeitreal
    In reply to @teachlovesci
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 31 @ 9:48 PM EST
A2: Know my Ss, what they can do, & where I plan for them to go. Make sure Ss know at all times, the difficult and the easy, that they can do this. I BELIEVE they can do this! Research proves that if the teacher believes in and pushes you, great things can happen. #MakeItReal
  • PreK33 Jan 31 @ 9:48 PM EST
A2: Whenever I'm doing a read-aloud or having a classroom discussion, I draw from their past experiences, things that they may have shared that they are interested in, and current events. #MakeItReal
    In reply to @teachlovesci
  • MathDenisNJ - Moderator Jan 31 @ 9:48 PM EST
Just out of reach is good. So is within reach, but slippery. So is too close, and difficult to move. So is not yet created. #makeitreal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes, @sdtitmas
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:48 PM EST
    True! Thereā€™s a balance of both! #makeitreal
    In reply to @MathDenisNJ
  • sdtitmas Jan 31 @ 9:48 PM EST
A2 Student voice and choice are key components to achieve this. Value student voice with morning meetings or platforms like Flipgrid. Allow for choice so you can see which direction students go without your telling them. #makeitreal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:49 PM EST
And? Building them doesnā€™t take long. When Ts say there isnā€™t time, I wish theyā€™d take inventory of their day and realize relationships give you time back in the end! #makeitreal
    In reply to @WPMadden
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:50 PM EST
Question 3 is in one minute! #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:50 PM EST
Yes! Great analogy. Stealing this one. šŸ¤Ŗ #makeitreal
    In reply to @sdtitmas
  • PreK33 Jan 31 @ 9:50 PM EST
Relationships are a must for learning!! #makeitreal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes, @WPMadden
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:51 PM EST
Q3 If your learners were to give you a gold medal, what would it be in? #makeitreal
  • teachlovesci Jan 31 @ 9:51 PM EST
    Question THREE #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:51 PM EST
I love hearing this. One of the hardest things for Ts to differentiate is assessment! Share your work in progress! Iā€™m curious! #makeitreal
    In reply to @MrPStrunk
  • WPMadden Jan 31 @ 9:51 PM EST
And knowing your Ss helps them know you care and believe in them. Can't ignore how much of our jobs is relationships. #MakeItReal
    In reply to @SteinbrinkLaura
  • teachlovesci Jan 31 @ 9:52 PM EST
A3: Patience. One of my sweet girls said to me the other day, "Miss King you're one of my favorites because you're so much more patient and don't yell at us so fast." Which made my heart soar because I often don't feel patient enough! #makeitreal
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:52 PM EST
A3 I hope it would be a gold medal in making it real! :) That takes understanding, building relationships, creating experiences, being aware, engaging, being relevant...#makeitreal
  • PreK33 Jan 31 @ 9:52 PM EST
    A3: Love #MakeItReal
    In reply to @teachlovesci
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:52 PM EST
Right! Teaching is a humanistic profession. #makeitreal
    In reply to @WPMadden, @SteinbrinkLaura
  • MrPStrunk Jan 31 @ 9:53 PM EST
Still a work in progress, but I want to use this for WW2! https://t.co/NxxqyBNfyz #makeitreal

Here you go!! You inspire me every day to #makeitreal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes
  • WPMadden Jan 31 @ 9:53 PM EST
A3: For starters, there would be glitter over it because they know I loathe glitter, and it would probably be for trying new things and not worrying about failing. #MakeItReal
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 31 @ 9:53 PM EST
Yes! And then we roll up our sleeves and get to work. Thereā€™s value in explaining the work process, research, and my learning to Ss to. #MakeItReal
    In reply to @WPMadden
  • sdtitmas Jan 31 @ 9:54 PM EST
A4 I would hope it would be for genuinely caring. Thereā€™s lots of great ā€œteacher skillsā€ I hope theyā€™d think Iā€™m good at, but ultimately I want my students to know I care about them. #MakeItReal #KidsDeserveIt
  • WPMadden Jan 31 @ 9:54 PM EST
    Absolutely! #MakeItReal
    In reply to @SteinbrinkLaura
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:54 PM EST

Can't beat a better gold medal than that! #makeitreal
    In reply to @sdtitmas
  • MathDenisNJ - Moderator Jan 31 @ 9:55 PM EST
    It's a symbiotic relationship. #MakeItReal
    In reply to @forthekiddoes
  • MrPStrunk Jan 31 @ 9:55 PM EST
A3: Being passionate about my content. Ss have told me multiple times that they get interested in history because I get so excited about it! I'd like to think I'd get a gold medal in making sure my students feel heard as well! I try to hear from each S every day! #MakeItREAL
  • forthekiddoes Jan 31 @ 9:56 PM EST
Thatā€™s what they will remember! I donā€™t recall what my own teachers taught me really; but I can tell you how they treated me! All of them! #makeitreal
    In reply to @sdtitmas
  • teachlovesci Jan 31 @ 9:56 PM EST
I love choice boards like this because they get to showcase their creativity and success!! My kiddos seem most proud of their work and most invested when they take ownership! #makeitreal
