A1: I am student teaching at a school that is not 1:1, so the way that we use tech has to be creative at times, recently we have been working with our students to show how they can use the tech they are already using to become more media-literate, informed citizens, #OHedchat

  • Jacki_prati - Moderator Nov 15 @ 9:10 PM EST
So true-tech is an important tool that adds to the culture of learning that has been created in the school #ohedchat
    In reply to @LakotaSuper
  • DrCSJones Nov 15 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1: Tech has to be designed and used around solid strategies rather than hoping strategies will emerge from an abundance of tech. With that in place learning becomes much more individualized and intrinsically motivating. #ohedchat
  • miss_trapani Nov 15 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1: Having 1 to 1 tech has been such a resource in the classroom! Answers to students questions are always at their fingertips. They get to learn more about what they're interested in. #ohedchat
  • gdorn1 Nov 15 @ 9:11 PM EST

  • MsVandeborne Nov 15 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1: Technology is a tool to utilize in teaching not the teacher. Technology breaks down barriers and helps teacher to free up their time to facilitate learning and lets the students take ownership while teachers become the guide for multiple paths to success! #ohedchat

  • Jacki_prati - Moderator Nov 15 @ 9:12 PM EST

A1: I think technology is almost effective when it gives ownership to students to drive their learning. It must be intentional, meaningful use of tech - when done well, its powerful! #ohedchat
  • cgiardino3 Nov 15 @ 9:13 PM EST
It has helped reach the learners that are behind. By using speech to text, audio books as they can comprehend more than they can read, by using Flipgrid to show their learning. #ohedchat

Exactly. It needs to be infused. Students already know how to use the tech, but not always how to understand. When a teacher facilitates both; awesome motivation and growth happens! #ohedchat

    In reply to @MrGartin
  • miss_trapani Nov 15 @ 9:17 PM EST
A2: My MT and I set clear expectations for use of tech on day one and have consistently stuck to that plan. It's also nice to have a program like Dyknow that my school uses as an extra verification tool #ohedchat
  • acottos Nov 15 @ 9:17 PM EST
A2: Ts need to model the proper use. Ss also need to be taught that making mistakes is allowed. Ts need to be present when new tech is implemented so Ss can ask questions openly. #ohedchat
  • Jacki_prati - Moderator Nov 15 @ 9:17 PM EST
A2-Just like with any tool we must set expectations for proper use and reinforce those expectations #ohedchat
  • ChadLensman Nov 15 @ 9:17 PM EST
A2: Don’t Design the lesson to fit the tech, use the tech to enhance the lesson- Connect, Create, Present, Access #ohedchat
  • cristinnowak Nov 15 @ 9:18 PM EST
A2 We are a #pbis school. On our school wide matrix we have a column specifically for technology this year. Lay out the expectations clearly and revisit as necessary #ohedchat
  • TebnerEbner Nov 15 @ 9:18 PM EST
A2: Establishing expectations, rules, demonstrating benefits of the tech & discussing risks/consequences of misuse are helpful. #ohedchat
  • Jacki_prati - Moderator Nov 15 @ 9:18 PM EST
A2-Also important to remember that is Ss misuse tech we can't just take the tech away. We must provide chances for Ss to learn from mistakes and try again. We can make poor choices w/ paper and pencil too. #ohedchat
  • TynansClass Nov 15 @ 9:18 PM EST
A2: I teach my students to THINK before they post online. #ohedchat
  • MrGartin Nov 15 @ 9:18 PM EST
A1: tech makes ed more about what happens outside the walls of the classroom as long as Ts understand that’s where it can be #ohedchat
  • N_Glynn23 Nov 15 @ 9:18 PM EST
A2: We had the opportunity to work with a local business, through one of their outreach programs. Employees came into the classroom and spent two days discussing the responsible use of tech that is expected of them, and will soon be expected of ss, in the workplace #OHedchat

  • ryanrismiller Nov 15 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2: when new technology is involved, there is a discovery period. Identifying how a tool is not intended to be used can be just as critical #ohedchat
  • MsVandeborne Nov 15 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2: I️ May be too open on this. But often times with new technology you must navigate the waters unrestricted (or else you may restrict learning ops) to discover what needs to be restricted. Trust the students then limit their access when needed or necessary. #ohedchat

Start early! Don’t try to unlearn bad habits instead Model appropriate ones. #OHedchat
  • mpohlman88 Nov 15 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2: It all starts with having open and honest conversations with Ss about what it means to be a positive digital citizen and role model for others. It also involves discussing the consequences that come with misusing tech. #ohedchat

  • roberthoon13 Nov 15 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2: modeling is key. Also, if T's put themselves out there with new programs, risk and even fail, that is powerful learning for S's. Teach resilience & learn from mistakes together. #ohedchat
  • gdorn1 Nov 15 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2. Our school has a technology class which teaches the Ss how to use their chromebooks and various other things inc. coding prog., etc.#ohedchat
  • BSevertSS Nov 15 @ 9:20 PM EST
A2; Just like any classroom tool, using it exclusively can do more harm than good. I think that building a lesson and using tech to enhance and compliment is the best way to help our students properly use it. #ohedchat
  • Vroom6 - Moderator Nov 15 @ 9:20 PM EST
A2: Explicit expectations and clear measures of accountability. Every student hears the same message during the #1st3Days of school. Teach them the good, and the bad, that comes with the tool. Educate. #ohedchat
