Good Evening, fine coaches! Welcome to the Tuesday night #swarmfbchat Feel free to check in and say HI; follow someone new! Like/retweet as much as you want! We will have 4 Qs tonight - various subjects.
A1: I began coaching due to the influence from great men who were my coaches; the second part is something I ask myself - just how much longer will I coach - as I approach my 22nd year. #swarmfbchat
A1: For me it was the desire to help people. I have always found giving back to my community extremely rewarding. I feel very strongly that kids in today’s world have it much tougher then back in the day and I hope I can be someone that can help them. #swarmfbchat
A1: helping my dad coach little kids while I was in high school and love the game of football. Since I enjoyed playing so much thought I would become a coach and share the game I love #swarmfbchat
A1) I always knew I wanted to coach, got some bad advice coming out of HS about teaching and coaching. I did get into coaching until I was 29. I think I have always felt “behind”, that’s were a lot of my motivation comes from. #swarmfbchat
A1: I think I’ve known since I can remember first fell in love with the way the game is played but then really fell in love with helping young people reach their best! #swarmfbchat
A1: my college coaches were my motivator to start coaching. They never gave up on me. Arrived in college a boy and graduated a man. My motivation is to pay it forward! #SwarmFbChat
A1) In college I reflected on jobs I would do if I had to work for free with some friends. Went in and changed my major from Pre-Med to Exercise Science the next day. Nothing better then being in a weight room and changing lives. #swarmfbchat
A1- My Dad coached football for 40 years. I spent a lot of time around him at practices and after games and I loved it. Played for a lot of great coaches as well. #swarmfbchat
A1.) I fell in love with it during a pee wee game back in the day. I realized I wanted to coach when my Coach, @MaysMaysm pushed me daily to strive and believed in the smaller guy. Seeing his excitement when I made a play (INT vs SS in ‘10 👀) made me realize it. #swarmfbchat
Q2: Related to Q1 - what really drives your coaching style? Are you a combination of former coaches or has it evolved into something you own outright? Interesting wording from that coach! #swarmfbchat
A2: I would like to think that I am a combination of Coach Shattuck and Coach Seiser. Learned a ton coaching under both. I am extremely thankful for the coaches I got to coach under before becoming a HC and for the support they continue to give me #swarmfbchat
A2: at the same time I have to be my own coach though. So I would say a combination of those two and then developing and figuring out what works for me. #swarmfbchat
A2) I really love what @CoachJacksonTPW talks about in his book. I like to try and be a developer of character and culture who does it through sports. I’m thankful for those coaches that helped me be a better person #swarmfbchat
A2: I think I’ve always been myself when coaching. If you’re not then the kids see right through you! I’ve stolen verbiage and sayings from everywhere but my style is all me! #swarmfbchat
A2: In my current state, my coaching style really comes from being around my stepdad and his staff from his days at Michigan - more about WHY then just running drills to run drills - how you talk to players and how to prepare practices. #swarmfbchat
A2)I’m me, I’m sure there are piece of my coaches, even the ones I don’t care for, had things that made them successful. My father coached me as a kid, did a great job, I may be a little too much like my Grandpa Sam. Friend once sad the more I care the crazier I get. #swarmfbchat
A2: I think I’ve cherry picked something from everyone that’s ever coached me and everyone I’ve worked for.everything from the chip on my shoulder (Boulder) to how to dress. Now it’s my own, but I will continue to learn and steal things. #SwarmFbChat
Q2: Related to Q1 - what really drives your coaching style? Are you a combination of former coaches or has it evolved into something you own outright? Interesting wording from that coach! #swarmfbchat
A2: I try to be myself before anything else. I think it's the most important thing. I will always use things I loved about the coaches I've played for but you HAVE to be yourself in this profession or it won't work.
#swarmfbchat
Grandpa Sam loved the hell out of me but his expectations were a mile high and he had zero tolerance for BS. I feel that is how I am as a coach, #swarmfbchat
A2: the game is fun I want them to have fun and love it. I coach them hard. First to get on to them when they screw up and also first to go celebrate with them with a big play #swarmfbchat
Q3: How would you describe your coaching style? What did you learn about coaching that you use to reach all your players? #swarmfbchat (I combined 2 coaches questions here that I thought could be related).
A2. My Coaching style is a direct reflection of the way I was Coached, but through experience I've learned some of the things don't work with this generation of players #swarmfbchat
Q2: Related to Q1 - what really drives your coaching style? Are you a combination of former coaches or has it evolved into something you own outright? Interesting wording from that coach! #swarmfbchat
A3: i feel that my coaching style is that I have high expectations for our players. Encourage them to reach new heights. During practice I’m huge on getting tons of reps in and high intensity. If your standing around your going to lose the kids #swarmfbchat
A3: I really try to explain the “why” and I want the football field to be an extension of the classroom so I teach- give handouts, homework, ask the players questions, demand attention to details, expect work to be done, etc. #swarmfbchat
A3: I'd categorize my coaching style as Fair and Firm - I'm a huge stickler for the details and little things. If you have the right attitude and work ethic, you will find your way on the field. #swarmfbchat
A3: I try hard to value every player on the team. Even the less talented players can still contribute to building a solid team and culture. Rotate in players when possible as well. #swarmfbchat
A2: Attention to detail. Got that from a head coach I worked under, and also learning about great coaches like Lombardi, Noll and even the Director Stanley Kubrick. #swarmfbchat
A3)Dude I have fun. I like to laugh and be loose. But....Like we work, my expectationsare are high, I do not compromise them. But my guys know I care and that I’m as invested in them(all parts not just ball). It’s a life long commitment. #swarmfbchat
A3) Coaching style - cool and collected. Rarely yell, but constantly trying to teach my athletes about everything that we do. If I can’t keep calm under duress, athletes sure won’t! Also trying to be a relationship builder! Each kid feels valued no matter their role! #SwarmFbChat
A3 Everyone matures at a different level. Continue to push. They’ll break out of their shell sooner or later. I was told once “he won’t make it” and the next off season he put up some of the biggest gains. Push. Drive & Dont stop. Win the next 7 seconds of your life #swarmfbchat
A3: I’d say “controlled aggression”?... I can get heated during the week, but I’m your best friend on game day. We’re in this together now! I learned that from my college guys too. They’d ride me to the moon during the week, but during the game it was us vs 🌎 #SwarmFbChat
Q3: How would you describe your coaching style? What did you learn about coaching that you use to reach all your players? #swarmfbchat (I combined 2 coaches questions here that I thought could be related).
A1. Worked In business ford after college football. Missed the game but missed being part of a team more. Loved kids loved seeing someone get IT. Was a great decision. #swarmfbchat
I knew how important football was to me. Football is the only reason I went to college and have the discipline and work ethic I do today. I also cherished all the relationships formed. I wanted to be part of that and pay it forward for other people.
#swarmfbchat
Relationships drive learning. First two weeks of coaching (better that it’s out of season than in) build your cache then demand and don’t stop. LISTEN , modify. #swarmfbchat
A3 cont: we could be down 40 (rarely) and our DC would look at us hovering over the white board and say “okay gentlemen, we’ve got them right where we want them.” And we’d all snicker. Totally ease the tension. Film the next day however... another story. #SwarmFbChat

Q4: Final Q of the night - just pulled this one off the wire: What 3 words describe your coaching style according to your wife/girlfriend??? Wowzers - this had to come from a coaches wife!!! #swarmfbchat
My coaching style is I'm a teacher with a Great deal of passion for the game. We're going to be physical and competitive. The best way to be with your players is honest. These kids today see through the B.S.. I treat them like men #swarmfbchat
A2) I try to be honest and instill passion in young people. I want my guys to know that caring about them is teaching them the difference between right and wrong. I’m a combination of my own coaches, people I worked with and took the good and erased the bad.
#swarmfbchat
A4: Right from my wife of 20 years: Dedicated, Passionate, Knowledgeable. Don't know if that last one is classified as a "coaching style" but I'll take it @slmac20#swarmfbchat
Kids respect real. I don’t mean slang keeping it real but real passion, real work ethic and real compassion. Treat the best player no different than the third string olb.

A4. Dedicated Focused Passionate
Friday nights, I put everything aside. Work. Family. Relationship. Whatever it may be. I just put everything aside the moment my feet touch the field and focus on the game. Gotta put other things aside selflessly to see people grow #swarmfbchat
A2 cont cont: def need to give a shoutout to another coach that gave me my first coaching job. @CoachKennedyFB is def a driving force in my career and a mentor. #MYUT#SwarmFbChat
