Happy Friday How do you tackle imBOREtant (imp/BORING) parts of your job? Tips for productivity? - https://t.co/db4RcCnNoe
I'm sure we've all got some imBOREtant work to take care of today or this weekend. So let's chat!
. It's fantastic Friday!! Looking forward to the chat!
Good news...IT'S FRIDAY! David MS Principal from VA on FRIDAY!!!
Good morning ! Angela, HS History from MA
Morning, ! So happy it's Friday today!!!
Dawn from Virginia where it is warm, warm, warm!
For me, the most boring part of of teaching is grading. Am I alone in that ?
good morning ! they say we're going for record-setting weather this weekend (don't put away the summer clothes yet)
Good Morning! Emily from RVA
Happy Friday from foggy Massachusetts this morning. Brian, HS principal
good morning. Starr from NY
What do people consider imBoretant?
Way to go ! We made it to Friday. Lisa, ESE support facilitation from central Florida.
. that's why I stopped grading bit wasn't serving anyone well
Plan in advance, hit the first goal of your day and the rest will fall into place. Busy is productive.
People are the answer to this problem. I know a few teachers who get together and grade every sunday morning.
Happy Friday ! Marifran, hs librarian who always has several inBOREtant tasks at hand
Morning ! It's our staff breakfast today and - great way to end the week!
I liked having my 4th graders dramatize not-so-engaging stuff. It made it engaging:) https://t.co/erWJ8DDcTS
I'm sure we've all got some imBOREtant work to take care of today or this weekend. So let's chat!
are you asking rhetorically? I'm pretty sure about the answer for me!
It's not the actual grading that's boring to me, but the amount of time it takes if I want to give feedback.
for me it's the meetings. What a waste of time
Um, no! Even assigning work that is interesting, it can still get boring. W/ 4 sections of 1 subject -- it gets boring!
Nothing I do in my role of principal is boring. I enjoy all aspects of this adventure.
I don't mind the grading. Math grading is less intense, but I like seeing Ss growth. No get so excited for them!
nothing with the kids is ever boring. Too many personalities and possibilities
Depends on the definition of boring ... to me boring = insignificant ... which means I will bypass
At my school we got rid of faculty meetings. I suspect a few teachers actually miss them.
Ohh I need this. Good Morning everyone! Stacey from NJ where I am STRESSED with the amount of loose ends I have.
I hope that it doesn't mean that we'll get again!
Di Doersch, from Wisconsin.
I usually look at a boring task as an opportunity to reinvent. I ask myself, how can I add value to this or make it fun?!?
Meetings can be so productive if they are facilitated properly. Such a tough task though
I love the thought process. Assign interesting work so that grading will be fun.
Good morning friends! I missed you yesterday!
That's so smart. A solid team is the answer to everything! https://t.co/8sTEeKliiS
People are the answer to this problem. I know a few teachers who get together and grade every sunday morning.
I'm enjoying it w trepidation - last yr after holiday break, no school for 8 consecutive Mondays b/c snow
We have some ppl missing the traditional fm in my building too.
I don't mind monotonous commutes or even cleaning as much if I'm listening to my Voxer groups, like
Tackling imBOREtant...Always think COLLABORATION...I'm not a LONE RANGER...often turn to friends and colleagues..including friends!
We are on an A/B Sched. Last year we missed almost all A days.
good morning . Erika, Texas
Adult study halls are so imBOREtant! Some people actually do this online. Keep camera on, commit to being accountable
you read my mind... (see comment to )
Yes, we had a great time @ a local pub grading & helping each other grade https://t.co/nXwLtgYHfk
People are the answer to this problem. I know a few teachers who get together and grade every sunday morning.
us too! In the 80s again. ☀️
Same, like teaching grammar- how can I make it fun & meaningful and energize ALL of us
I dont particularly understand that.
When it comes to the imBOREant stuff I just try to complete any task I deem productive to move things forward
It's 63 in Central FL. My windows are open, but many will be wearing jackets!
I love this idea! Some of our VA History is not too exciting! Maybe we can act out all those freedom docs.
eh. Really? I'm talking the random meetings I get pulled in for too. Where nothing productive happens
Good morning friends. Steve from NJ here. Excited for
hah. now thats a damn good idea.
Best thing for me was becoming a morning person. Get that boring stuff done before the world wakes up.
I find those meetings that could have been an email boring
Esp the ones where they talk about not talking all lesson.
I also unplug, send out a tweet to say I'm doing work
Me neither. If it can be sent in an email, pls do it that way, but others argue don't have time for email.
We all have those meetings - no fun!
I also find it helpful to practice when I'm working on something very boring or mundane.
Good Morning! Stuart here, school librarian from Asheville. Home of the Chocolate Fetish.
In my job I sit in alot fo meetings. They don't bother as much as the people unprepared for meetings.
Every day is an adventure, right?
I enjoy most ... the physical act of writing out lesson plans tho ... love planning/creating ... but that form :(
A terrific idea that will put the smallest of routine tasks in perspective. Cheers!
https://t.co/zRPmfjbQ7B
I also find it helpful to practice when I'm working on something very boring or mundane.
I do the imboretant things before anyone else arrives. There is a lot of that stuff to take care of - mostly paperwork for me
I always tell my Ss it's my least favorite part of the job but I do it because it's necessary.
Twitter always makes the meeting more enjoyable.
The minutia details in paperwork that have never been expected before. https://t.co/UeqHCu35wT
What do people consider imBoretant?
Good morning! Sorry to be late! My computers updates were doing me crazy had to switch to my iPad
Me too! Coffee helps any task!
Policy & compliance issues can be yawners. I saw S do skits about the rules at a code of conduct meeting. It had everybody laughing
Breathing? Affirmations? Tell me more! :-)
Ours are for recognition and awards, 20-25 mins tops & I get them out of the building.
This is beautiful Bridget.
I love my commute. Often it's the only quiet time I get
Exactly! One hour every two weeks for something that can be read in under a minute!
Sometimes every hour...
Like Roald Dahl wrote: "Lukewarn is no good..."
Cheers!
https://t.co/zR8ytRIbAV
Every day is an adventure, right?
ooh yeh. Lots of irony in some meetings. Although i appreciate why kids find it hard to sit still on those chairs
Yes, my team used to go through LOTS of chocolate
I hear that. I read all of mine. All the time
I think I actually physically twitch in meetings where time is being wasted!
That's a great idea to make it more interesting.
Plus you are able to reflect and do your periscopes.
This! And getting in the building before anyone was there to whine & moan- Then I get my work done. https://t.co/6o70XhK47r
Best thing for me was becoming a morning person. Get that boring stuff done before the world wakes up.
Find the positives in the imBOREtant stuff. There is always a silver lining
When I have something imBOREtant to handle (paperwork), I always find music makes it go by much quicker
I always struggled with talking to parents about discipline issues. Not boring but sometimes felt like it had no effect.
Connie from NY jumping in quick-I head into a colleagues room when I have to tackle boring work. Helps me to be around friends! 😊
I'm going to jump in on the paperwork/grading bandwagon.
Global Compliance training (GCN)-two hour video on dyslexia. I got all 12-15 modules done b4 school started!
The commute and my shower...wish I could carve out more time in my life for those quiet moments! https://t.co/L9GDbEtykS
I love my commute. Often it's the only quiet time I get
Copying is imBOREtant. Standing at the copier is SUCH a time waster!
The worst..."I know you already filled this out, but I need it filled out again for (fill in annoying purpose)"
Sat through one before about engaging lessons ... while the Admin read from a PowerPoint ...
Sometimes every hour...
Like Roald Dahl wrote: "Lukewarm is no good..."
Cheers!
I think that was the exact topic! The Roanoke skits were engaging and creative. https://t.co/LVMWjJ8BM7
I love this idea! Some of our VA History is not too exciting! Maybe we can act out all those freedom docs.
Have you sent this to our friend ? Too funny:)
. I try to keep boredom from sinking in by seeking the value of the task. Sometimes it's a real challenge but I need the purpose.
Good Friday morning! Susan from NJ. Sitting through non-relevant PD would be my response.
bothers me when we have meeting where we could have prepared, but weren't given the info until the meeting!
Thank goodness for Google Classroom!
It depends on the task! I try 2 appreciate the little things, colors, shapes, sounds. A lot of is just about noticing 1/2.
some ppl think a mtg is the only way to get a sense of connection
Meetings can be useful if they are organized and move forward. I hate information dumps.
Another thing I do when tackling boring is set mini-goals for myself. 'After you record all your grades you earn a cup of coffee☕️'
We started using Protocols for Prof Meetings (someone shared it on ) Meetings are now awesome!
Good morning Neighbor! Hope it's a sunny NC day in Asheville today:)
Take something that the Ss may perceive as boring and integrate it in a way you know they enjoy! https://t.co/xABOqbjDg7
I think that was the exact topic! The Roanoke skits were engaging and creative. https://t.co/LVMWjJ8BM7
I love this idea! Some of our VA History is not too exciting! Maybe we can act out all those freedom docs.
Attempting to be a 'transformative' T...taking what could be mundane and finding ways to bring S engagement and joy in learning.
Worst for me is combing through MCAS results ( standardized tests). Year after year
It sure is! I do try to have something else to do while copying! Maybe even a moment to check twitter :) https://t.co/gGYHkb2JyE
Copying is imBOREtant. Standing at the copier is SUCH a time waster!
One thing I do to be productive is check my email first thing in the am, esp since I shut it off around 4.
I find required paperwork boring. I try to take care of it asap so it doesn't create a stressful situation later on.
what's around us. For example, I have a favorite pen that makes any writing task a dream! I love how smooth it is. 2/2
but in ELA, it is so important to provide guiding comments so learning occurs. To me, exciting! https://t.co/G4lwjqQZS7
For me, the most boring part of of teaching is grading. Am I alone in that ?
"You're doing this Ellen because your Ss come first..."
every now and then I wanna say "You weren't ready for this meeting, leave and come back when you are."
Woohoo! That should feel productive! https://t.co/MitgcvtLpD
Global Compliance training (GCN)-two hour video on dyslexia. I got all 12-15 modules done b4 school started!
I definitely have to do that for myself! Helps me get thru those tasks ...
Excited this morning...off for my first outdoor run after 8 weeks recovering from ankle injury! Pumped! 😊Happy Friday !
It was like a weight had been lifted. One less thing to worry about in February!
I put on some power music & schedule something I want to do like go see teachers after an hour. Like a reward for time served
We can send things from our computer to the office copier! I think your school needs to ask Santa for one! https://t.co/FjTB1wfk3R
Copying is imBOREtant. Standing at the copier is SUCH a time waster!
Wouldn't it be great if meetings left everyone more excited and inspired about teaching and learning?
That's a good point, Ellen. Perspective can shed new light on something that seems boring.
Have an awesome day, ! Make sure to identify at least one !
It's gotta be done so finding ways to make it more enjoyable is key! https://t.co/xmRyuqzpZJ
Connie from NY jumping in quick-I head into a colleagues room when I have to tackle boring work. Helps me to be around friends! 😊
I know. I taught ELA for 8 years and the better I got at grading/feedback the more time it took.
But many people will say "yeah I got your e-mail but i didn't read it." It's frustrating...
I build myself incentives & routines to conquer the "have to"s: do 3 & switch to a "want to", b/t 7-7:30, get thru a/b/c then coffee
SOmetimes Ill print out emails and read them while walking around the building.
BEYOND true!! I will sometimes resend.
it doesn't feel connected to sit and listen to someone for 45 minutes
And waiting in line for the copier (esp if it's the usual where one is broken)
not saying don't have meetings f2f but make them productive
OH MY GOD!!!! When i am asked a question that I already answered in email I lose my mind!!!!
any information that can be emailed, should be. should be a thing.
The imBOREtant tasks remind me of how students often feel. I use that insight to make my lessons less bland.
Sometimes my "rewards" are as silly as going to the ladies room-LOL! 😜.
I actually don't mind copying. One of the few times during the day when I can chat with other Ts. https://t.co/O26ARogpm8
Copying is imBOREtant. Standing at the copier is SUCH a time waster!
I used to build in time at the end of the year for all the tasks that weren't given yet, but would be at the last minute.
Ok folks. On my way to school now. Be well.
I just use my ipad, but I nev check email when working w Ts (rude). I like 2 give them my attn.
Love that! We should offer these "engagement tools" to our Ss if it's something less than exciting... https://t.co/bghARd2YLK
what's around us. For example, I have a favorite pen that makes any writing task a dream! I love how smooth it is. 2/2
NO service in my building. also, i annotate.
Yes - I WISH this would happen in my school!! https://t.co/Ty3JyxDEvm
We can send things from our computer to the office copier! I think your school needs to ask Santa for one! https://t.co/FjTB1wfk3R
Copying is imBOREtant. Standing at the copier is SUCH a time waster!
I fall down the comment rabbit hole! Love giving feedback, but have to time myself LOL
I always bring my phone w/ me to copier room now - can always check Twitter or personal email
Absolutely. And how often do Ss really work to improve from those comments? Hardly ever time to rework https://t.co/EcWe1dWgfE
I know. I taught ELA for 8 years and the better I got at grading/feedback the more time it took.
hah. I know that feeling too. its a struggle to balance.
100% agree - engage Ts in mtg as much as we do Ss in classroom or dont have it
TPowtoons. It helps learning abt FERPA compliance a little easier https://t.co/eUmLgLCAJE Sounds boring, but ya'll need to know it!
HAPPY FRIDAY friends! Have a fabulous weekend! Make it an awesome Friday!
Good point! I actually had someone tell me f2f was so much better. I cut way down on the comments.
Happy Friday, everyone! Time to run!
Good morning Chris, AP from CT. Paperwork etc.. Schedule time for this (after students leave building) https://t.co/s4N81y1KPA
Happy Friday How do you tackle imBOREtant (imp/BORING) parts of your job? Tips for productivity? - https://t.co/db4RcCnNoe
If I was a chocolate lover, I'd be right there with you! 😃😃😃
well on my soapbox of curricula... if you pack in the year, redos cant be done effectively.
Thanks for a great way to start off my Friday! Always gives me energy to tackle the day.
I took on the challenge, which has helped me appreciate more of the little things that we can take for granted.
or I get a sweet tart or smartie when I finish one paper - used to be chocolate, but that was too much 😆
Well, that can be true...and food helps :)
friends make everything better
Have a great weekend everyone!
'Purpose' is essential for T and S.
hi there Dr Chris! Haven't been on regularly to catch you much!
Setting up my day using the Premack principle helps. Can't wait to transition to my more desired activity. https://t.co/HsSi1CvxW5
I put on some power music & schedule something I want to do like go see teachers after an hour. Like a reward for time served
most meetings, when done right, can be accomplished in 15 min.
good morning! Riding this December heat wave, too, yes?
Agreed, Ss should be part of the process when grading written work. https://t.co/uMZIS0RBkW
Good point! I actually had someone tell me f2f was so much better. I cut way down on the comments.
Agreed! https://t.co/cDOeEYy4le
well on my soapbox of curricula... if you pack in the year, redos cant be done effectively.
When the meeting is stuff they could've sent me in an email I lose my mind!! https://t.co/1MnsFMdMq4
OH MY GOD!!!! When i am asked a question that I already answered in email I lose my mind!!!!
it depends on the purpose
Have a great day and weekend
set that timer, honor ppls time - when it goes off, we out!
absolutely- usually, those meetings are important, but they really take away time with the kids, which matter most.
We have that feature too but then the copier jams 😳. I don't have much fear In life but the copier is 1! https://t.co/iwTjvJ1QQ3
We can send things from our computer to the office copier! I think your school needs to ask Santa for one! https://t.co/FjTB1wfk3R
Copying is imBOREtant. Standing at the copier is SUCH a time waster!
my parents are there - I think their neighbors have busted out the scarves and gloves by now
Time to run friends! Hope everyone has an amazing day. Remember to post the positive today! https://t.co/DHDooHdnRy
yes. Be either. I've been a shadow lately. Lurking here and there. Happy Friday!
Friend of mine did this for 200 days...loved the first 100 so much...inspired me!
I'm ruthless. They use old papers to reference, and repeated mistakes = lost points. Learn from mistakes!
It is a terrific goal! Make it meaningful.Explain the purpose so that Ts understand the need&hopefully value. https://t.co/ctFZSG9M3A
Wouldn't it be great if meetings left everyone more excited and inspired about teaching and learning?
Have a great weekend, friends!
Since getting into I've started practicing that in meetings while I listen. https://t.co/TBfo0ZIdJa
I think I actually physically twitch in meetings where time is being wasted!
2 meetings that will take up a significant portion of the day. One at work, one outside of work, but this morning. :(
Learned it from and it stuck. Tell Ss to eat the frog now, too.
You just made me laugh out loud! I know the feeling. Our office staff get VERY cranky when someone jams the copier!
That's the way it should be! Meaningful, learn from mistakes
must set the timer on fun stuff, too - and mine just went off! Have a great day
Thanks for the happy thoughts, though! Hope you have a stress-free day, too!
Grading thoroughly takes forever.i have to remember to only provide feedback related to the learning target. https://t.co/YwL3kbi0HV
I know. I taught ELA for 8 years and the better I got at grading/feedback the more time it took.
One of the best tricks is to read the paper, highlight issues w/o comments, return paper and have S phantom-grade it. Eye-opening.
This conference has recharged me. My fatigue can't win over my passion for teaching. I have to know when to refuel:)
good morning. Happy Friday! Student voice and insight- great response. It's all about the kids.
Surprised none of my MA friends mentioned anything about MCAS tests today. Test prep? Data analysis 😜
Hope is my favorite word. Thanks for sharing this today.
I hear your. I am 15 minutes behind in tweets ... playing catch up.
Also structure meetings like a great lesson! https://t.co/YHdzzTSBCM
It is a terrific goal! Make it meaningful.Explain the purpose so that Ts understand the need&hopefully value. https://t.co/ctFZSG9M3A
Wouldn't it be great if meetings left everyone more excited and inspired about teaching and learning?
15 minutes is just so short..I was yelling at my computer! Come on I only have 15 minutes! lol Have a great weekend!
all good ideas, require appropriate planning and facilitation skill
Ugh.You're right. How could I forget reading aloud awful instructions for standardized testing, over & over & over.
we can too BUT last time I did that it jammed & then got dressed down for not getting there fast enough
love the 4 color pastel pens!
I think I've got that manual memorized. 😭 https://t.co/pZutMH6sXc
Ugh.You're right. How could I forget reading aloud awful instructions for standardized testing, over & over & over.
See you all Monday! Or, on tomorrow, and/or on Sunday! Unboring day to you! 😘
perfect use of time!! And a great way to remember what you are hearing.
Kids too! I bought a fountain pen, let Ss take turns using it for notes. They find it exciting. Lol! https://t.co/qmS0HByKjs
what's around us. For example, I have a favorite pen that makes any writing task a dream! I love how smooth it is. 2/2
With handling imBOREtant tasks, I put them off until they become a timely task so they can be accomplished in a short amount of time
We need to dig deep for imBOREtant tasks- if we let on that they are, we will lose Ss!
I was definitely the hyper kid!
that's how I do it it takes more effort to ignore them
Same here! Not a morning person. But getting up an hour earlier lets me tackle work w a fresh mind. Slept in today tho ☺️
😳 https://t.co/S4Aj8PkCeo
we can too BUT last time I did that it jammed & then got dressed down for not getting there fast enough
I am going to practice that- breathe first move second
I always bring a "just in case" pile of grading or planning to required PDs. If it's not engaging or relevant, I'm still productive.
I like the giving feedback part, don't like the amount of time or the data entry. I need a secretary.
Happy Fri ! How do you tackle "imBOREtant" (imp/BORING) parts of your job? Tips for productivity? - https://t.co/mum32KoC8f
Hey
Carl form Oz
I always tackle the most boring task first so I am looking forward to the next
Good morning CST! Use to tackle imBOREtant tasks. Brain breaks are good for grown ups too.
My Yoga page https://t.co/SvyFGsmzSb Practice meditation, relaxation and breathing exercises, along with yoga poses.
Never know what to expect. I am going to practice my instrument when there is indoor recess .
Is it ok to skip the boring parts? ... like fast-forwarding through the boring parts of a movie ...
I have just heard that Ts don't have time for email. ?! but then, I do not get many from Ps
Really great ideas for tackling imBOREtant tasks from EST. Thanks for the tips!
Good morning CST How about sitting through state mandated video's such as blood borne pathogens. That is ImBOREtant.
We have a networked copier/printer too! It is AWESOME, when it's not jammed 😕
edu_match: RT JustinAion: MrEandre any information that can be emailed, should be. should be a thing.
Oh so very imBOREtant. Forgot about that. Not matter how it's delivered. Maybe needs to make a rap about BBP
Happy Fri! How do you tackle "imBOREtant" (imp/BORING) parts of your job? Tips for productivity? - https://t.co/qUUlcuQcf0
To do lists (ones I can cross off manually) are my life. I have long term and short term lists that make organization easy!
I get all the "boring" tasks completed once my Ss and staff leave. No sense in doing paperwork when "people work" is to be done
I set a time limit on how long I work on it before I go and get refreshed with meaningful work. :-)
Definitely! That's why I get to school early/stay late most days- I want to be able to focus on my Ss!
I am a list maker as well. Even to the point of adding something I didn't have on the list to cross off.
Good Morning . Fabulous Friday to everyone. Jill Lewis from CO.
Music! listening to music doing the boring stuff always makes it better!
Oh I do that too- it's just a way to feel like you've gotten something done when the bigger tasks are taking longer
As a music T, I approve this message 😉
A great book to read - Eat that Frog! Funny, yet great strategies to move you through the project/boring items to be done.
Definitely music--and especially energetic songs!
Great strategy to keep you focused!
Check out Hey Now by -it's my morning pick me up!
I always do those tasks first to clear the way for the fun stuff w/Ss!
Take care of "imBORtant" work first thing in the morning so it's done.
"On Top of the World" by gets me pumped!
One way I defibrillate my mindset: Question everything. Mentally jolt 'Why do I have to do this?' into 'What can I learn from this?'
Pink and Bruno Mars get the brain cells moving just a little faster for me.
Listening to "Hey Now"... Right now! Fun video, too!
Love Pink and Bruno Mars!
Have a great day everyone!
Happy Friday! One week until break!
Long live list makers & music listeners. Desires like task completion or, uh, Bruno Mars see us through. https://t.co/tnUPU1tZbl
Glad you like it! I saw them at a few years ago and they blew my mind!
Good morning, west coast . Checking in!
Morning, Paige. Maybe just you and me for this edition of !

For the boring but important I try to sprinkle the work throughout the day, surround it with the exciting stuff.
I try to work in spurts. Do my least preferred tasks in smaller spurts.
Sometimes I'll multi task and eat lunch while doing a little bit of grading (pretty boring if you ask me)
Morning, sir! As for my boring stuff, I tend to just grind it out. Put my head down and get it done.
I find copying somewhat therapeutic. Shredding too, but I don't get to do too much of that.
Brain breaks or team building activity every 15-20 min. For my meetings a bathroom break or stand up in back of the room.
Music helps :) Changes my mood. I should really single task, but I bounce around too much with what to do. https://t.co/FcMxfSQ0Az
Morning, sir! As for my boring stuff, I tend to just grind it out. Put my head down and get it done.
Agree about the music. There's a lot of bebop jazz on in our house during the day.
yes to music! Rocking the 80s today.
Yeah, yelling at the top of the lungs WHY MEEEEEEEEE while doing the boring stuff, doesn't seem to help. https://t.co/R8eY5CHKSy
One way I defibrillate my mindset: Question everything. Mentally jolt 'Why do I have to do this?' into 'What can I learn from this?'
What do they say about great minds, Paige? :) My 80s alternative station is just rockin'!
Sometimes the boring stuff is meaningful, no? https://t.co/AYix2AwOUp
I set a time limit on how long I work on it before I go and get refreshed with meaningful work. :-)
Nope. Well, maybe a little. :)
Morning ! I like to listen to music or audiobooks during boring tasks. While copying, I'm checking Twitter or chatting with office
Got to scoot. Meeting in 15 minutes. Have a great day, you two!
Have a Fabulous Friday!!!
I am pretty sure I submitted for that!
