Good evening! I'm so happy to share with all of you tonight :) My name is Evylyn and I'm a proud AP. My "why" is that I know that every day, I'm building my future and it is in my hands to do my best! #mdeschat
My “why” is faith-based in that I believe that I am called to teach. Knowing that keeps me grounded and focused, and I get great joy from seeing Ss succeed, and engaging w/ former Ss. #Impact#WalkingInTheCalling#mdeschat
Walter, Principal at Cristo Rey Baltimore. My “why” is about compassionate service. I’m forever in “yet” mode, knowing my failures are a chance to grow. #mdeschat
A1: My icon is my mother. Had it not been for the many sacrifices and establishing high expectations for me at an early age, I would not value the “grind”. #mdeschat
When we work to build new teachers, we refer to a great author @burgessdave and we try to guide teachers to "Teach like a pirate", what do you think, about this quote? #mdeschat
A2- Passion for the work and for life in general is contagious! Young people recognize REAL better than anyone. Ss know when you care, and when you are excited about their learning and opportunities for growth. It sparks excellence. #mdeschat
A2. I strongly agree! It’s not impossible but it’s difficult to do anything well without love or passion for doing it. Enthusiasm connects people together to be excellent! #mdeschat

A2: When I think of a pirate, I think of the quest for treasures. Teaching like a pirate then is all about reflecting on the paths/quests to improve student outcomes. #mdeschat

I completely agree with this. Not only does this help educators become better teachers, it also helps students become excited because they can see that their teacher is passionate about their job and subject. #mdeschat

That’s why people love @burgessdave You’re always willing to check in with encouragement! Several years ago my teachers were thrilled to have you join their chat! #tlap#mdeschat

And Yes! Mindset, opens the floor for our next question, thanking the @hopekingteach@WadeKing7 amazing authors and their new book, check this out! #mdeschat
One of the great joys for me as an educator occurred a few school years ago after having read “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. Sparked significant interest from my Ss, and they couldn’t get enough of Dahl’s books independently and collectively. #mdeschat
A3: Teaching who is in the room requires an understanding of their dispositions and the ability to communicate and model the success criteria. #mdeschat
A3- Yes indeed! Each Ss learns, grows, behaves, and experiences differently. Connecting to the class requires connecting to each individual Ss. #mdeschat
A3. Ts need to understand the learner- strengths, areas of need, interests, motivations, fears, hopes... anyone can share content, but not all can inspire Ss to learn it #mdeschat
Here is an old photo from my Ss who became such fans of Roald Dahl. Readers of all levels in my class couldn’t wait to read a good book by themselves or with a friend. #mdeschat
Q4 is here! Recently I enjoyed reading "The innovator's mindset" by the awesome @gcouros it inspired me to get out of my confort zone #mdeschat What is something that you are willing to try?
A3. The individuals students are who matter. We (individuals) are where the power begins but the collective is where the force multiplier occurs!#mdeschat
A4: I am willing to move slower in order to create buy-in rather than wait for it. Changing culture requires disequilibrium so everyone learns but the skillful leader knows the strength is in the collective. #mdeschat
The only constant is change. Making adjustments when our kids need it can be scary for some, exciting for others. Make your classroom, your school; even system The Place to Be! #mdeschat

Every year in education, is a new year and it is full of blessings and adventures (that's why I LOVE this job), share a funny experience, we all learn! #mdeschat
Always great collaborating with the #mdeschat crew! Need to step aside a bit early tonight. Thanks @evyabel for leading the conversation tonight on “Finding your why.” Have a great week on purpose!
A5: A kindergartener surreptitiously wrote on the wall and thought he had gotten away with his little caper. Unfortunately for him, he wrote his name! #mdeschat
A6: Always remember student voice matters. Learn how to hear from student assessment data in order to inform your teaching and student learning. #mdeschat
