#personalizedPD chat. A fast-paced, fun chat to discuss personalized professional development for educators. We discuss what it is, why it's better than traditional PD, how to create personalized PD opportunities, how to scale it from individuals to districts, and how to inspire it from individuals to districts to want more and more of it. Hosted each week by Jason Bretzmann @jbretzmann and Kenny Bosch @KennyBosch and moderated each week by a guest moderator. 8pm Central each Tuesday.
Hello. My name is Scut Farkus.....I mean, Kenny Bosch. Co-moderator and co-author of #personalizedPD
Excited to have all of you join us tonight and to be led by @Seguin_B#BlueEyes not #YellowEyes
I hope no one uses the "A" word tonight, @jbretzmann@jbormann3 or I will be forced to use aggressive measures to find out where they heard that word before?!?
#personalizedPD
Hi. I'm a teacher and innovation integrator. Spent some #personalizedPD time learning about the ACT test process so I can expose my Ss to it more as we do the other regular stuff we do. Demystify the ACT. #practice
A1: I choose to learn things that are immediately applicable, taught by people I respect and that I am comfortable being vulnerable around. And yes, many times that includes Twitter!! #personalizedPD
A1: CHOICE can be so many opportunities to learn, grow, share, collaborate, and get energized. What I choose depends on the current/future needs of my students and me. It's ongoing!
#personalizedPD
A1 I like opportunities to have choices in diff sessions, topics that I am working on, something that challenges me or pushes my thinking #personalizedpd
A1 Ah!! The million dollar Q! Something that meets an immediate need, pushes my thinking, allows me to connect with others that challenge me. Ultimately whatever will help me have a greater impact on student achievement. #personalizedPD
A1: Vanessa, NJ middle school counselor. When given PD choice, I choose weekly bite-size PD that can easily be learned & implemented... like info I get on twitter! #PersonalizedPD
A1 My PD is my responsibility. As a result I try to find things that align with what I am focused on. Many times this has worked for me when given a number of options on a pd day. #PersonalizedPD
A2 My peers have been a great resource - find out what they're doing and grow from there. Ended up at #edcampnj that way and it was an awesome experience with @RichHayzler and @MichaelPortas ! #personalizedpd
A2 I tend to gravitate towards people who I know focus on creating a great environment & experience for students. This is true for sessions, video chats, Twitter, etc #PersonalizedPD
A2 I connect through Twitter, go to #edcamps, join in @voxer groups and learn with and from #pln , always reading and try to take in as many webinars as I can, so convenient #personalizedpd
I agree, Kristin. If you can search for ideas that interest you, you will be more likely to pass on that passion to the Ss and find ways to make it a part of your classroom.
#personalizedPD
There are so many groups to join, lots of conversation, hard to keep up sometimes, but great to know you can ask Qs, share ideas whenever and wherever #personalizedpd
A2: I keep my eyes and ears open for chances to do any PD, online or F2F. Then I make time to get to the sessions/ chats/gatherings that pertain to what I most want to grow into. Sometimes hard to sort them out!! #personalizedPD
A2 These days twitter is my go to- I feel like more of a collaborator than a consumer in the learning I get here. I also love to check out what others I respect in the ed field are reading. #personalizedPD
This is a good point - I feel like I gravitate toward educators with like minds as me, but finding unique perspectives might be more beneficial. Hmmmmm #personalizedPD
A2: Networking with other successful school counselors through NJSCA and BCSCA allows me to have faith in their ideas and try them out for myself. #PersonalizedPD
A3 I found out about the value of Twitter after a tech summit and started to connect, go to conferences, attended @edcampPGH and that was the start of amazing learning opps, #personalizedpd
A3: My #PersonalizedPD journey began with searching for PD options that were not being met. The one sized fits all approach was just not working. https://t.co/yqI5MstArQ
A3 I think #personalizedPD is always something we did, but we're just more intentional about it now? Two of my favorite PD events ever were #PubPD and #SwimUpPD for sure!
A3: I wanted to be able to process PD in a comfortable environment, where I could think about what I was learning without having an immediately articulate response demanded of me in front of my peers. And here I am! #PersonalizedPD
A3 I was always on my own #personalizedPD journey. I became more focused on it about 8 years ago. Was frustrated by lack of PD options and repetition each year. I was working on my own PD & then @jbretzmann myself & more wrote the #personalizedPD book 2 help others do the same.

Exactly, Danielle. I was tired of forced PD that didn't fit what I needed. I appreciate the days where I can explore what I feel I need to make me a better T & provide unique opportunities for our Ss. #personalizedPD
It's time for the #Lurker shoutout!
We love our lurkers at #personalizedPD
Scared to join in? You won't even shoot your eye out, kid!
Join in, or not, it's cool.
A4 (missed it) Created the hashtag #peqpantherpd that anyone in the district can use to share with each other and use @tagboard to help aggregate district tags. Great resource! #personalizedpd
A5 Keep blogging, set aside time to get my book going...I hope, and to learn a lot more about coding, AR and VR and create new opportunities for the Ss #personalizedpd

Thank you, Andrea! Very happy to have you with us. We hope you can join us every week.
Would love a review of the #personalizedPD book when you are finished.

A5: My PD New Year's resolution is to assist other colleagues to join the Twitter world and obtain their daily dose of bite size PD... while sharing what I learn as well! #PersonalizedPD
I definitely will give you a review. I teach 2000 employes in my district. That includes T's and the business side. I am always looking for innovative ways to share the information wi/ them. #personalizedPD

A6 encourage colleagues to attend #edcamp join in Twitter chats, share emails about upcoming events with @remakelearning in Pittsburgh and @swpaect and iste events, share books #personalizedpd
A7: Being given the opportunity to work with many amazing educators to start shifting the focus of PD to more of a #PersonalizedPD approach for our district! https://t.co/GZTqgnTgqS
A6: I only invite if others who identify a need to rethink PD. Then we have a discussion about what adult learning environment can really be -> https://t.co/M2umJEr8UG#personalizedPD
A6 Need to go back to some #sneakertime in the new year and have some conversations - lots of #edtech solutions for invite/assess what PD but sometimes just talking is so much more valuable! #personalizedpd
A6 Share your story, successes, failures, challenges. Be real about your learning experiences and the impact they are having on students. When others know the truth they will want #personalizedPD too!

A7 Best #personalizedPD present has been being able to organize this chat almost three years ago and all of the friendships that have been made with amazing educators around the world!

A7 I provided PD to all of our Principals using @PearDeck last week. There isn't enough time in the day to book all of my training request. #personalizedpd
Q8: While #PersonalizedPD is about meeting individual needs, it is also important that we not learn in isolation. How do you connect with others on your #PersonalizedPD Journey?
A8: In the Kick-Off process of the Professionally Driven journey, we look for common journeys on a Google Doc. We then encourage educators to find natural collaborative groups. #personalizedPD
A8 I like meeting up in unusual places. #PatioPD#PubPD#SwimUpPD - really anything unique where educators get out of their comfort zone.
Oh, and Twitter. Thanks Twitter. #PersonalizedPD
A7 Going to be trying to use @voxer more this year - the quick verbal feedback is very powerful. Plus I realized I can use it while driving! #cultureed
Q8: I look for opportunities to invite them in and ask them what they need for PD. Then involve them in the planning process. this makes #PersonalizedPD accessible to those who have not yet tried it. https://t.co/DhEgWYet4Z

Bowing out early friends. A toddler must go to bed before he finds his way on the naughty list! Thank you @Seguin_B for a fun holiday chat this evening! #personalizedPD
Be sure to check out the other options at the link including the Professionally Driven Manifesto. Hopefully Santa's sleigh can get there before Christmas :) #personalizedPD
Another great #personalizedpd chat tonight! Thanks @Seguin_B for moderating! Remember to follow those with ideas you find interesting or challenging! Happy Holidays!
But the children know and the teachers know how PD came to life one day. A #personalizedPD day with "Game of Stories" leading the way... https://t.co/KAd587v1s3
