A1: Sometimes when I make a Google Doc for Ss to write a timed essay, I change the background from white to light blue. Blue is supposed to be a calming color. #formativechat

Hi everyone! My name is Paula and I am an elementary and middle education major at The University of Wisconsin-Platteville. This is my first ever twitter chat! #formatIvechat
A1: I feel that especially for the little ones, color and things that catch their attention are so much more effective because sometimes they don’t even know they are being assessed in situations like that! #formativechat
A1 Visual design can add impact, focus areas, color or icon code the feed back. It also allows for very individualized coding in feedback for each student #formativechat
A1: Visual elements are key for all my learners, but even more so for my ELs. It can be the difference between them understanding and not understanding, almost every time. #formativechat
A1: By adding images to presentations and then formatives, Ts are helping visual learners to associate the content with the image. It’s a good studying strategy to teach Ss. #formativechat

In addition to changing visual elements of formative assessments essential in meeting the varied needs of all students, it also allows the assessment to be more engaging for the students. #formatIvechat
A1: I occasionally add a simple image to go with a text. Students seem to remember the text better even if the text doesn't really correlate much with the image. #formativechat
A2: Show Ts what Ss are exposed to on a daily basis with technology. Ts need to help Ss to utilize technology and not just use technology. #formativechat

A1 as someone who grew up learning in the 1960s where we used one work book until it was full and just copied what our teachers wrote off the board Visuals and Tech are amazing #whitmanwtps#formativechat

A2 Share w/your at-school #PLN Using our science #PLC time to share & create FAs, now I can add the visual/audio piece to the conversation #formativechat

A2: Share our experiences, the good and the bad. Be willing to experiment! Know that failure is possible but can always be fixed! FLEXIBILITY! #formativechat
Yes! We talk about the importance of this all the time in class. Technology is not going away and our students can utilize it in so many ways! #formativechat

A2 part of my job us working with teachers to plan lessons. One of the best ways I have found to help them try new things is to make examples for them relevant to their units. Give, give, give, give, give! Do it enough times and they start seeking you out.#formativechat
A2 Share your stories of failures or missteps with FA with fellow Ts, they would rather learn what not works than try it themselves and fail #whitmanwtps#formativechat
A2: Let Ts try the new things first before doing it with students. If they can see how it is used, they are more apt to try it enthusiastically with their own Ss. #formativechat

A2) Sometimes the results of the assessment is only as good the tools and your capacity to use your imagination to engage students and take risks. #formativechat
Yes, noticed that word and the 'model' and 'give', definitely have to be open to sharing what we are doing and helping to support others #formativechat
A2: successful PLC’s are successful because they are an open book with open doors. They refer to kids as “ours” not “mine”. I think this plays into FA as well. Common, shared and agreed upon together, multiple teaching styles bringing wonderful ideas to the table! #formativechat
Q3 is now up in #formativechat ! Share a fun formative that you have made OR one that we can spruce up! Your formative can be in any form! #formativechat
A3 I had my Ss go through a written Twitter chat to share ideas & develop deeper understanding of their work Needs some tweaks, but I'll use it again #formativechat
A3 Answer with a song lyric... let's me learn about the students other interests and promotes some different thinking. I often get all sorts of audio visual responses. Appropriate for class :) #formativechat
Today I did @KellyGToGo activity from "Deeper Reading" - Silent Exchange. This is great way to access where students are with their learning and use it for FA. The questions were produced by the Ss before break and helped them with a writing prompt at the end.
A3: I use lots of pbl. My students are creating magazines, games, movie trailers, and more based on books they are reading independently. #formativechat
A3: I’ve created a Google form that is a SBG item analysis. It breaks down assessments by question, by standard for the class, and by standard for the student. I’d love to have a few more people try it out and offer up feedback! #formativechat

I do the same! Work in progress. They use it as their record sheet to keep track of their progress on the “Goals” (Standards) we are working on that quarter. It’s conditional formatted to turn red, yellow or green depending on the level they are at to help them. #formativechat

A2: It can be tough. Just encourage teachers and let them know you support their creativity and expect them to fail numerous times on the way to success (the same thing we should be communicating to our students)!#formativechat
A good way to access these different presentations - have them present on @flipgrid so that you can easily go through all and do a gallery walk in class. #formativechat

Thank you for @davidkwan and @rachelledpoth for helping me host #formativechat. I am blessed with a great PLN that works asynchronously yet is in perfect harmony in terms of perceptions and values towards teaching and Ss learning!
Today in a third grade classroom, the teacher had the students play the "Sparkle" spelling game, but with multiplication facts. They students loved it and we could easily see which students needed more practice in what areas. #formatIvechat
