Join us for our district's monthly twitter chat focusing on "Integrating the Arts" on February 1st from 7-8 pm. Come and chat about how to integrate music, art, and other specialized areas into your classroom to build learning across the content areas!
Hello! My name is Ryann and I teach 10th grade English at @Westoverhs. I can't wait to try some things I've thought of when reading this book. #ccsedchat
A1: Although I have been tweeting for a year now, Twitter has definitely been a catalyst in my career. My PLN has exploded! #CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset@gcouros
Q1A1. Recently this semester I learned about @edpuzzle. It really has helped me to change the way I instruct students in my classroom. Being able to get live feedback and answer questions as they watch informational videos has been awesome. And they love it too. #ccsedchat
A1) I am part of #EDEx cohort this year and have learned a LOT about Design Thinking. My take away that impacts students - the process is more important than the product! #CCSEdChat#BWFCASMT
A1: I was modeling a lesson recently for a 5th grade class and a student asked me a question that I couldn't answer. I learned that it was ok not to know the answer and acknowledged it. Assured student I would get the answer for him. #ccsedchat
A1: One of the things that I have learned is that you can have high expectations of the learners you serve, but you can also be relaxed at the same time. Makes for a better environment for all. #CCSEdchat

Jennifer Nance 5th grade teacher at Gallberry Farm Elem. Looking forward to the discussion. I am currently leading a book discussion at our school. I am including this book study as a professional need for my National Boards and would love to share ideas.
A2: An Innovator's Mindset is multifaceted. It's being open-minded, a life-long learner, curious, fearless, creative, and a change agent. #CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset@gcouros
The word choice here is very important. Data or evidence informed is a different mindset than data driven. We should always be driven by serving the learners in front of us. Thanks Donna! #CCSedchat
I had not been looking through a COPPA lens when I was getting excited about digital resources...it's important to know what safety measures to take when working with little ones! #CCSEdChat
A2: An innovator's mindset is having the ability to be flexible, have high expectations and being willing to take risks and fail. #ccsedchat#InnovatorsMindset

A2: An #innovatorsmindset to me is simply someone who can take what they've been given and look for new ways to use it to empower their students. Someone willing to try things, change then when necessary, and help their kids with more than just the test. #ccsedchat
A1: I've really embraced that to have high expectations you need to be a creator of the path to those expectations and not just a critic on how people aren't reaching those expectations. #CCSEdchat

My students have helped a lot. They are fond of showing me YouTube videos (appropriate ones!) on something akin to what we have been studying or teaching me a different way to use Google Classroom. #CCSEdChat
A2) Check out the image by Sylvia Duckworth - I think she captures it gr8 8 Characteristics of the āInnovatorās Mindsetā https://t.co/VyPVfsr1w5 via @gcouros#CCSEdchat
That is such a significant shift in thinking and is part of the idea of moving from compliance to empowerment. People that are empowered WILL ask questions and challenge conventional wisdom. Thanks for the push, Eboni. #CCSedchat
A3: Reflection is a critical component of growth. If you don't recognize failure as well as success, your growth will be limited. Give students time to reflect as an exit ticket.
#CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset@gcouros
A3: In the classroom, many teachers read while their students read to model learning. If we give time for our students to reflect/blog, could we do this at the same time? Think it is great to do that in front of students as well. #CCSedchat
A3) for myself by participating in Twiterchats to collaborate and writing more blog posts for reflection - For my students - incorporating #GeniusHr and using #Flipgrid for student voice #CCSEdChat
A2: The āinnovator mindsetā seems to be one where we can, essentially, remember what is was like to be a student and we had all of these ideas and thoughts about our favorite subject and wanted to bring them to life and try them out. #CCSEdChat
A3: Reflection is a critical component of growth. If you don't recognize failure as well as success, your growth will be limited. Give students time to reflect as an exit ticket.
#CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset@gcouros
A3- I think the biggest way I allow my students to reflect at this time is after each SMA they take. They are given their own data sheet and one of the things they are told to look for is growth. How does this objective compare to the last one? Did you do better? Why? #ccsedchat
A3. I used to think time for professional reading, writing, and collaboration were bonuses for extra time. I now know they are essential if I am to successfully serve others. They are now critical components of my workday. #CCSEdChat
A1 One new thing that has transformed my teaching is implementing responsive/restorative circle time daily. It has brought our whole class together as a community and has enabled me to educate the whole child. #CCSEdchat#momauguinproud
A3 pt 2- I show them the positive sides of their results so they don't just get bogged down by low scores. They get rewarded for pacing, using strategies, etc. When they finish, I go up to each one. How did you do? Why? They've done better since introducing the sheet. #ccsedchat
A3 And it is often hard to reflect on success....why was this successful? How can I replicate and improve on this success? #CCSEdChat#innovatorsMindset@gcouros

#CCSedchat
A1: Helping students to challenge themselves to continue working and trying even when things seem hard. I am trying to set the example as I embark on my National Board journey.
A2 To me an innovators mindset is being willing to try new ideas and strategies. Keeping in mind that all may not be successful but learning from and reflecting on each new experience. #CCSEdchat#momauguinproud
A4: Strength - Creator. I love to start projects and see the outcome.
Weakness - Resiliency. I am my own worst critic. In order to get stronger, I need to not take things so personally and learn from the mistakes.
#CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset@gcouros
A4) I think being #Networked is probably my biggest strength and Twitterchats like #CCSEdChat make that possible. My biggest weakness is probably #empathy. I have a plan for that though. Adding the 8 char. to my weekly planner to be focused on them.
A4: My strongest characteristic is being resilient. My weakest is being a creator. I am still working on how to be a creator so any ideas are welcome. Resiliency should be my middle name. I look for the resiliency factors or student agency in my students daily. #ccsedchat
A4. That left side was drawn for me! I will always have one more student or teacher to help - therefore I MUST be a problem-finder, a risk taker, and be networked!!! #CCSEdChat
A4) Strength = risk taker. I love trying new things and seeing what happens. Weakness = empathetic. I often think if I would have liked to do something as a SS, but fail to consider if my kids NOW would benefit. Talking to my Ss about their feelings/ideas has helped. #ccsedchat
RT gcouros "RT EboniMassey: To remain open for opportunities to learn, share and grow. It's not about the answers as much as it about asking better questions. #CCSEdChat"
RT gcouros "EboniMassey That is such a significant shift in thinking and is part of the idea of moving from compliance to empowerment. People that are empowered WILL ask questions and challenge conventional wisdom. Thanks for the push, Eboni. #CCSedchat"

A4. Empathetic is a work in progress...especially with adults that hold Ss' futures in their hands...BUT...meeting them where they are and celebrating small steps helps! #CCSEdChat
#CCSedchat
A3: My students collaborate with each other daily in Math as they discuss strategies for solving problems. Working on National Boards has also helped me see the need for my reflection as well as my students. I am now making it a part of my weekly plans.
A3 For myself, working closely with my grade level partners. We collaborate and reflect together before school and during lunch. For my kindergarten students, I ask them to share about their favorite and least favorite part of their day. #CCSEdchat#momauguinproud
Please vote for my friend Scott and I to present at ISTE18. Our presentation is about both my doctorate work and GoogleEI project. My own little passion project.
Vote here: https://t.co/nV6LEcHvOB#CCSedchat
A5: I try to model my belief that ANYTHING is possible. I also use Yoda's philosophy "Do or do not. There is no try" to remind myself to take the plunge.
#CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset@gcouros
A4 strength: empathetic. I am most confident when my actions occur when I consider the point of view of others.
Growth opportunity: creator. I consume a lot of content (e.g. Likes and retweets) Less likely to create content. #CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset
A5: I try to live out an innovators mindset and be a constant model of the inquiring mind and faith in student potential that I hope all my teacher would have. #CCSEdChat
#ccsedchat. Yes!, and, maybe, instead of you, S finds an 'answer', then you and Ss devise more questions (problem finding), then decide if you want to further empower from that point in some way.
A1: I was modeling a lesson recently for a 5th grade class and a student asked me a question that I couldn't answer. I learned that it was ok not to know the answer and acknowledged it. Assured student I would get the answer for him. #ccsedchat
A5) I volunteered as the first guest facilitator of #CCSEdChat back in September 2017. Does that count? How about Live Tweeting during @NCIESPanda#STEM night? OR jumping onboard with #ObserveME
A5. I have really tried to push the envelope with district PD this year...getting large groups to work and learn together in new and different ways...#CCSEdChat
A5: I share my ideas with my PLN and if they think I'm crazy, or the idea is crazy, I invite them to see what I will do. Most of the time they want to try it for the following year. Sometimes you just need someone to take the risk first. #CCSEdChat
A5 #CCSEdChat great point- a person canāt communicate innovation or #growthmindset to students if they are not willing to live it themselves - both need to be hand in hand @gcouros
A4 Empathy for my students is my strength. I try to get to know each one on a personal level and show them I care everyday. My weakness would be networking outside of my own school. Since joining Twitter my network has grown by leaps and bounds. #CCSEdchat#momauguinproud
A5 Tried #goRoguish... it was different, challenging& empowering to teachers. Definitely appreciate the leap and dedication of the Ts involved. #CCSEdChat
A3; I would like to figure out how to use a Twitter Chat effectively in my classroom. Iām going to ask the students when we go back to school. #CCSEdChat
A6: My advice is take time to process and think through what is happening. Give yourself a moment to adjust and recognize the benefits and possible negative effects.
#CCSEdChat#InnovatorsMindset@gcouros
A6: I am all about change if I get to decide and bring it on. I'm not good at handling change from someone else, so I am looking forward to reading everyone's advice! #CCSEdChat
A6) My advice is to come to grips with and learn to accept what you can and can NOT control or change. Much easier to be innovative and effective when you do not dwell on things outside of your control. #CCSEdChat
A6- Change is part of the territory. It's easier when it's voluntary, but I feel it's worth giving it a shot when it's forced. I feel safe enough with my administration that I believe if something were forced by the admin and not working, I could let them know. #ccsedchat
I think forced change is much harder to accept for so many obvious reasons. Interestingly though even when a change is good - it can be hard to accept when FORCED. #CCSEdChat
A6 #CCSEdChat Ok great question- two ways to go in a swimming pool- test the water with your toes or go off the high boardā when change presents itself - go off the high board @gcouros
A5 This year my principal, @diane_mackinnon, has been a model of innovative mindset for us. She doesn't ask us to try anything new until she has tried it herself. Sharing her successes and learning path with us. She is making us all better educators. #CCSEdchat#momauguinproud
A6: "Change is inevitable, but growth is optional" ~ John C. Maxwell.
As educators, we must adapt to change and provide the most engaging and empowering experiences for our students
#CCSEDchat
I want to start trying to allow teachers to have more time to explore their own interests on PD days. If this is what we want our students to have then we need Ts to experience it. #CCSEdChat
A6 Breathe, stretch and shake. Take a breathe before jumping in, stretch your mind amd shake off negative thoughts. Even if that means you have to talk it out with others first. #CCSEdChat
A4: Strength= creations Weakness=Networked @jlg523 taught me a lot in her workshop about social media and networking so that helped. You just have to keep putting yourself out there... #CCSEdChat
A6: It is about relationships with students and preparing them for the future. I embrace change and a growthmindset and I think every educator does #CCSEdchat
A6 Breathe, stretch and shake. Take a breathe before jumping in, stretch your mind amd shake off negative thoughts. Even if that means you have to talk it out with others first. #CCSEdChat
A6 Learning is a life long journey, it never ends. Embracing change and stepping out of our comfort zone makes us better teachers. We ask our students to take risks all the time and we need to be willing to do the same. #CCSEdchat#momauguinproud
A7- I never considered how much school can isolate our Ss. After seeing this chart in an earlier PD, I have really tried to push my kids into not only learning from each other, but also going online to find answers to their questions (especially when I don't have it). #CCSEdChat
It's hard to believe, but our last question for tonight's #CCSEdChat is coming right up! Please post a GIF to describe your BIG take away from tonight.
A7: Consuming vs Creating. Our job as educators is not to ask students to regurgitate facts but to provide them the opportunity to create content and be creative.
#CCSEdChat
#ccsedchat. A4: 'Problem finder' best (not in a 'glass-half-full' way but in a '1-thought-leads-to-10-other-thoughts' way.
Growth area: risk-taking. Open-minded, yet still can't quite shake all of my rule-follower childhood! Do risk occasionally, to stay in risk-taking 'shape'!
A6: I feel having a positive attitude to all aspects of future challenges is important. If you feed into the negativity it only makes climbing that mountain even harder. #CCSEdChat
I was late to the party tonight but SO excited to see the ideas shared and of course that @gcouros joined in and made the night for @lsj914#CCSEdChat#CCSEdChat
A7. For me, learning should look the similar in and out of school...if there is a big difference, perhaps "schooling" has reared its not-so-pretty head a bit too much. #CCSEdChat
A7: a lot of discussion right now about time at my school. We are revisiting our archaic schedule and I keep saying that time is an artificial construct we are putting on learning #CCSEdchat
A7: I've long been focused on the problem that school is one of the worst environments for learning. Don't have a solution, but this problem underlies my entire career. #CCSEdChat
A7 Confession...I wish Ss could use their device for learning in school. Ss shouldnt have to wait until the day their class has the carts to access digital resources. #CCSEdChat
A6: Roll with it!!! If it isnāt going to hurt anyone or destroy property, try. It is what we ask of our students on a daily basis so that they can get that greater perspective, or ignite a spark, make a self-to-world connection. #CCSEdChat

A)7 To get to the learning side, so much control has to be released by the teacher I just feel that many can't see what could be achieved by giving up that control #CCSEdChat
A7 learning is social...learning is anywhere. I believe so strongly with these statements. I love that google classroom allows me to reach and interact with my students at anytime! #CCSEdChat
A7 I need to remember to look at school from the learner perspective as well as the school/teacher perspective. I need to make sure that I am giving my students a voice in their own learning. Working to move from standardized to personal learning. #CCSEdchat#momauguinproud
#CCSEdChat
A7: School v/s learning. As we have moved away from Textbooks I have noticed how many parents wonder where students are supposed to find the answers. Teachers and textbooks do not have all the answers. Learning is much deeper and meaningful.
Grades do not tell the story of a child. Really believe that and think there are better ways of "accountability" in education. I use the term "evidence" over "data" any day, because it tells us a lot more. #CCSEdChat
