Good evening, community! How is everyone doing tonight. We just finished shoveling 6 more inches+ here in WI
I have never shoveled snow here in Florida, so I'm just going to smile at
It was a good workout but I'm done for the season. Ready for spring for sure! How was your day down there, Tammy?
Never shoveling snow means one never gets to have a snow day, or 2 like me. :)
We'll be talking about personalized learning for teachers in a few but please let us know where you're joining from tonight for
That's true but I'd rather have a full summer than think about makeup days.
Hey everyone! I’m Amber Black and I’m a pre-service elementary teacher from NC State University
I can't believe you have 2 but I'm super happy for you. Snow Days are so joyful. Sorry, !
Welcome, Amber. So glad you are here with us at tonight.
Hi Amber! Thanks for joining us! Look forward to your thoughts on personalized learning
Looks like snow dancer is joining us from blizzardy MN tonight! :)
+so then the snow day counts as a school day. :)
Just peeking in, have some grad class HW I HAVE to get done!
POLLY! Hi! So glad you are here to talk personalized learning!
So for Q1 What is your experience with personalized learning as an educator in your own learning?
A1- I know I tend to focus on more visual forms of learning to grasp ideas and concepts over other strategies of teaching
A1: It was only a few years ago. I realized I was in charge of my own learning. It was like a lightbulb went on over my head.
Do you find yourself pursuing more visual learning experiences on your own as a result?
Welcome, Polly! So glad you are here.
Do you remember what prompted that, Tammy?
Yes! I'm so glad you've discovered it before you started teaching. It will make a difference. https://t.co/45lmka9ySV
That’s something I’ve come to realize recently as well! I feel like this is such an important revelation.
A1 Pers. learning has been huge to me post undergrad...the world of professional development opened that up, I think.
A1 I think edus are naturally curious folks for the most part. We like to follow our interests in terms of learning, right?
. I remember thinking that I wanted my Ss to take charge of their own learning, but was I? I had to take control.
I do. I often get information and follow it up with a video or something to further my understanding
right-o! we can't lead personalized learning movements for kids until we've understood the power for ourselves!
I think many of my generation felt that we were done learning when we graduated. But that's not the reality.
So many of those boundaries are falling away w/ resources we have now. The personal journey is evolving in importance!
Hobbies (after hours passions) keep us learning. We just have to recognize it and apply that to our classrooms.
This is a wonderful statement and really something worth remembering
Powerful to make those connections re: conditions that spark the best lrning & bring them 2 classrooms. https://t.co/GBtJapIJEH

Personalized learning in classrooms involves Student Voice, Student Choice, and Collaboration with Ts to ensure goals are met.
Coming from a preservice perspective, I feel like student voice is something that isn’t talked about enough
definitely not the reality to be done learning when we graduate.
there r so many barriers to honoring student voice. It's gr8 that many people r realizing power of doing so.
Q2 Share a favorite personalized learning experience either in your own life or as an edu.
A2- My favorite personalized learning experiences mostly happened in my Virtual Enterprise classroom in high school
what kinds of projects did you do? that sounds awesome!
A2: I'm trying to get my students to own their own learning right now. We set weekly goals and they plan their assignments.
we ran our own fake virtual business! The class sizes were small and allowed for collaboration
isn't that key? being able to collaborate is empowering
I think so. Since it was classified as a project based class, having a small class made for amazing results
A2 Developing a PLN through social media has led me to great leaps in understanding and connection. (Right, ?)
That's what we're here for. We may not have the answers but we can learn from your questions. https://t.co/kopZolyGHS
We are at the beginning of the personalized learning journey, and I have so many questions.
A2-As a hs senior, I had already studied supply & demand, so I got to read Grapes of Wrath instead. Old style PL.
I think the more we can make schools within schools and groups w/in classes, the more our Ss benefit.
I agree whole heartedly! I feel like I owe my positive high school experience to this idea
sounds like just right PL to me! choice in reading is SO important, right? It's the original PL.
It will be great to see how you can carry that forward in your own classrooms! Fantastic!
How do teachers prepare for a sub with students in so many different places of learning?
This is actually a question I have had myself when thinking about my future classroom
. I'm grateful for Google Classroom. I prepare Ss for a sub. Sub roams & asks questions about work.
What are some of the features of Google Classroom?
Part of that is training both parties about how to work differently together.
kudos to THAT guy!I think it's cool that libraries r THE resource 4 PL when you think about it.Always have been!
Training/professional development is so important!
. Google Classroom allows me to assign work to small groups & easily keep track of it.
It also facilitates live "check ins" and conversations about learning. Very cool resource.
I want to learn Google classroom this year.
I've really enjoyed using it even in limited ways in our library.
Most Learning Management Systems (LMS) will help manage Personalized Learning.
It's hard to believe we are rounding the corner on an hour here. What other Qs do you have about personalized learning?
saaaweeeet! Thank you for sharing that! I am forwarding to my teachers tomorrow.
What other advice do you have for personalized learning for pre-service teachers?
. I'm always willing to share. We can do a Google Hangout if I can help in any way. Let me know.
Tammy is so much fun in a GHO. Take her up on this!
How do you use google classroom in the library?
. Remember you are in charge of what YOU learn. If you need to know something, don't wait for it to come to you.
I use it to share out documents, links & support research projects w/classroom edus
Thank you so much! That is wonderful advice. I’ll be sure to share that with my peers as well!
That personalized learning is challenging but vital to engagement & empowerment for young people AND teachers!
There are many LMSs (Canvas, Schoology, Alma, etc.) Most schools use one or the other. https://t.co/6LHIMMBgce
Are there any other softwares that work this way?
This is also a really good piece of advice! Thank you so much!
we could focus a future chat on these systems if that would be helpful.
this would be awesome! I know quite a few of my fellow students that would benefit from this
We are so glad you joined us & Please come back next week for
