Joining in a little bit late as I dashed in from ESC10 after presenting a wrkshp on "12 Questions a LIbn Needs (should be able to) to Answer." #txlchat
A1: I think it is important because it shows them that the holidays are about more than presents. We can’t always give back monetarily so it’s nice to see inexpensive or even free ways to spread cheer! #txlchat
a1 We have service built into our curriculum at @EminenceSchools I think the intentionality of it allows are students to see it, replicate it, improve it, etc... #txlchat I love seeing kids working towards helping others.
A2: Students can volunteer their time with daily tasks and during special events. Our Student Ambassador at @CockrellChamps are helping in our school’s Holiday Store right now. #ccelibrary@PISDLiT#txlchat
A2: students can make cards for residents of nursing homes and make blankets for shelter pets to stay warm in cold pounds. Also, singing carols is absolutely free! #txlchat
I set up motion sensor Santa alarms in my library today. If it goes off it means they have been nice/ or naughty depending on what I told each class. A Dollar tree item and so much fun. #Txlchat
a2 Very specific, and only one example, but we have students in sewing club who are learning new skills, and making blankets for shelters. Gives them real purpose #txlchat
A3: students can volunteer at community events like tree lighting ceremonies and craft fairs. They can also read holiday stories to younger students. #txlchat
Q3 Our art teacher and her daughter are great examples of this @ArtSmartFun not only donated hair, but also donated their time to places like the @safoodbank & so do @VVillarreal13 & her daughter #txlchat
A3: There are a jillion ways: Angle Tree, nursing homes, helping elderly neighbors in small ways. It's not the magnitude of the deed it's the intent and the outcome (no matter how small) that makes the difference. #txlchat
a3 I think real-world stuff to them is best. It often expands. Here is one some kids tackled. Bridging a racial divide in local cemetery https://t.co/iRyVdMHQkf#txlchat
A3: We try to offer a community service project that changes each month in our Makerspace @EdWhiteEstem students can choose to participate each month. #txlchat#ccisdlibs
Don't forget the apply for the Shirley Igo PTA/Library Collaboration Award sponsored by TLA and TxPTA. Information coming soon. Deadline in late February. #txlchat
We have some individual students doing that right now. Cool to see their passion about it. Also 3rd grade built a little lending library outside last year #txlchat
Our students take home baby board books from our Early Bird Reader shelf in the library to read to siblings not yet in school. The goal is to spread a love of Reading and build up home libraries.#txlchat
We've made bandannas for shelter animals thanks to @lieberrian and plarn (recycled plastic yarn) for a non-profit organization. I'm always looking for ways my students can help to positively impact the world. #txlchat#ccisdlibs
