#BadgeChatK12 was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChatK12 was born.
My name is Olivia Kegley and I am a Freshman at IU. I'm not a teacher yet, but in the future I will be. In the mind of a teacher, something filling my plate at this time of year would be ensuring that all of my students are well prepared for their finals coming up #BadgeChatK12
Q1: For those of us supporting Teachers with Badges (or other initiatives), what else might we be mindful of that’s also filling their plates at this time of year? #BadgeChatK12
Q2: With plates this full, we know there will be leftovers. How do we help Teachers by knowing whether what we are serving today’s main course or tupperwares for another day? #BadgeChatK12
A1: The fact that students are most likely going to be more demanding of a teacher's help and time because of finals, projects, and tests quickly approaching #BadgeChatK12
A2: Balancing time and energy is super important in teaching. Teachers need to be reminded that they can't do it all in a day and that it's okay to accomplish little goals. Otherwise it can seem overwhelming. #BadgeChatK12
Q3: Just as gravy goes with mashed potatoes and cranberries with turkey, how important is it that we synthesize our add to Teachers’ plates with items that are already there? #BadgeChatK12
A2: By identifying how badges can be used to help teachers meet the goals they are already working towards. (i.e improving student outcomes, structuring course assignments, etc.) #badgechatk12
This is very true. As a current student, it can be hard to separate school life and home life sometimes and that is why teachers hold such important roles in the lives of students #BadgeChatK12
