The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
Q1: Have you or your district considered using video technology to improve teacher instructional goals? #INeLearn@jimknight99#behaviorwhisperer
Follow-up: Are you using cameras to flip the classroom? If so, tell us about it.
R1: After hearing Jim Knight, Pam and I each received a Swivel from our district to use with instructional coaching. Powerful tool for self-assessment. #INeLearn

@risky4 Last year I presented at the Summer of eLearning Connecting the 4Cs conference about that!
I had teachers volunteer to give it a try. Amazing! #INeLearn
R2 Although watching your classroom practices on video can be cringe-worthy, it gives us a perspective we don't often see... from the students' point of view. #INeLearn
R1: my former district has a great master teacher who works with new teachers in the district. He videos the teacher then reflects with them. #INeLearn

Q3: How can video be used to connect teachers to peers for feedback and coaching? #INeLearn

Follow-up: Time to visit others’ classrooms is impossible. Creating a video library is a possibility?
Most really like this. The coach does more guidance instead of suggestions. Allows the T to make the recommendations through effective questions. #INeLearn
#INeLearn R2: we could learn a lot from coaching sports teams & why athletes are so engaged. They practice, fail, practice, succeed...then repeat. They know "why" they are doing "what" they are doing with a goal to reach. Coach is so important...just like teachers!

R3: any time Ts can go into other classes for ideas is great. At a different former school, we had to complete a write up on positives we saw and give one suggestion. New idea? Use @Flipgrid to provide the feedback. #INeLearn
R3 Some of us have limited PLCs within our buildings, but Skype, Hangouts and recorded instruction can be used to allow those of us in "specials" classes to connect with other specials teachers across the state and beyond. #INeLearn

R3 We have found that when teachers trust each other, they can develop very tight bonds with teams who share video of their lessons. But trust has to be there. #inelearn

R4 As much as we joke about having eyes in the backs of our heads, we sadly don't. I know watching myself teach would show me both positive and negative things in my classroom that I might be missing. #INeLearn
R4 I think what video especially does is helping solve problems is to clarify what the problem (or the area of strength) is that you want to focus on #inelearn
It's not just about the mistakes we catch, it's about what went well, where we can expand, and how to engage the ones we missed the first time around. #INeLearn#behaviorwhisperer
Completely agree. One of my gripes during evals are when I ask for suggestions and the evaluator has nothing. I want to get better. I am not THE best. Videos allow me to reflect on all aspects—both pros and cons. #INeLearn
Q5: In what ways can video technology make it easier for teachers to observe their colleagues’ instruction and give or receive instructional support? #INeLearn@jimknight99

R5: Video helps me as a coach because when the teacher watches the video using the checklist, they find a focus-target and then plan strategy. #INeLearn
R5: again, it allows for reflection well after the visit has ended and ability to focus on multiple aspects of the classroom at different times. #INeLearn

R6 I think there can be value in sharing a video of a class with students and discussing how the class can be better both in terms of what they do and their teacher does #inelearn

R6: with video, you can practice, view, re-record. Some Ss can’t present in front of a class but could in front of a camera. ELL Ss could practice fluency, foreign language Ss could practice enunciation, etc. #INeLearn
Q6 My ceramics students have spent first semester finding and watching how-to videos. Next semester, they'll be making and sharing their own on YouTube! #INeLearn

R8: Use the video to record events of the class. Then record the debriefing so it can be viewed and reviewed at a later time for further analysis and reflection. #INeLearn

R8 We have found that video recording is just as important for coaches who watch themselves coaching as it is for teachers watching themselves teaching

R7 I think video recordings might be most valuable for recording our conversations so we can improve as communicators, both at school and at home #inelearn

Was just thinking about a video idea for Ss using WeVideo for the spring semester to discuss different genetic diseases. Always love talking with this group #INeLearn
R7 Flipgrid is so great and easy to use! Canvas also has the option for students to record video or audio responses to demonstrate learning as well as improve communication skills. #INeLearn
R8: Sarah Brown Wessling @TeachingChannel says for video to be a potentially transformative tool, three conditions must be met: choice, trust, and a clearly stated purpose and that purpose is NOT surveillance!

I have truly enjoyed listening and learning from all of you! It is amazing what we can learn from others - even if they are not in the same discipline, district, or department! #INeLearn
Whomever is recording needs to set expectations that this is not for evaluative purposes; only to be used for reflection and growth purposes. TRUST MUST BE ESTABLISHED. #INeLearn
