A1 - There is no 1 size fits all strategy. What worked for us was to tell everyone about it, provide details on a practice by practice basis and mentor people individually for each matter
#LPMHQ
A1: To get started it is helpful to identify the PG or client portfolio that is under pressure/stress, due to a lack of planning and execution and/or alignment with the client. #lpmhq

Today's topic: "When the rubber meets the road" Implementing LPM. #LPMHQ
A1: To get started it is helpful to identify the PG or client portfolio that is under pressure/stress, due to a lack of planning and execution and/or alignment with the client. #lpmhq
A1: If you consider that each PG is it's own unique business, with its own unique clients, talent, needs, you must have a flexible program that can respond to that business' needs and the clients they are servicing. #lpmhq
A1 - #LPMHQ - we told everyone about it and then focused on those who wanted to buy it. Focusing on "buyers" first gave us great momentum to work with others who weren't so willing to jump in
A1 I've had the most success by groupings of attorneys by PG. When done by client it doesn't become habit, it becomes a chore for one particular client. #LPMHQ
A1: Find those partners that will have a tolerance to explore and test new approaches rather than broadcasting your program before you have any wins or champions, Proof is in the pudding and a positive client response will take your program far, #LPM#lpmhq

What I like about the PG method is that you can show very specifically how it is relevant in that specific Practice Group. Otherwise, you get the "Yes, it looks good, but not relevant for the kind of work I do" response!

A1 Talking challenge rather than strategy: explaining LPM succinctly enough to keep a newcomer’s attn while still giving an accurate intro is very tough. Hard to neither give narrow examples nor over-generalize. #LPMHQ
A1. #LPMHQ In my experience individual lawyer is typically more successful than by practice group. It needs to be personal for someone to engage (i.e., partner is spending a lot of time putting together accruals/forecasts each month - LPM can help you with that!)

Some firms launching LPM get hung up focusing on the "right tools" to have for their program without even testing and getting buy in. Have flexibility in your approaches. Being too stringent and rigid is the fastest way to kill your LPM program in my experience. #lpmhq
A1 To talk strategy, I’m a big believer in focusing on influential individuals. PGs would be ideal if the group and leaders are truly motivated. But word-of-mouth success stories are most reliable, partners look to ‘hot’ individuals like any other org. #LPMHQ
A2 - Demonstrate the value in what LPM provides: reduced effort to create a realistic budget (happier lawyer)+improved collaboration with the client through the life of the matter (happier client)=win more work with less effort
#LPMHQ
Q1: Attorneys will want to know it that it gets results before investing time and effort. Starting out, we focused our efforts on helping a team improve (communication, client service, profitability) which served as a case study for others to buy-in. #LPMHQ
A1: Q: Why are you standing up an LPM program? A: Because clients say we should. Q: What problems are your clients seeing that they think LPM will solve? A: Not sure but they think we should have a project manager so we're doing that. #deadinthewater#checkingboxes#LPM#lpmhq

A2 I always recommend the book Nudge. Much broader topic than LPM or even business strategy. Discusses choice architecture and how to use social norms to motivate behavior... #LPMHQ
How often is there a discount upfront and then write offs later on. I've heard it often totals over 15%! On a big engagement, that's a lot of $$$$ #LPMHQ
A2 Nagging is inevitable, and is much more effective if combined with hints at how others are doing. ‘You haven’t done X yet. Here’s a list of your colleagues who completed X and are now doing Y.’ Unbelievably effective. #LPMHQ

A2: With the rise of LPM in-house, it is helpful to connect law firm LPMs with in-house Legal Ops who, for the most part, are trying to employ project management tools and techniques. Talk the talk and walk the walk with the client gets buy in from law firm practitioners. #lpmhq
Here is one trick of the trade - identify a team and perform some due diligence on indicators of need for improvement - write downs are evidence of a need for improved team communication. Write offs are evidence of the need for training or clarity with the client. #LPMHQ

A2. #LPMHQ embedding the LPM in a matter team so that they have a 360 view and become the partner's trusted advisor-that produces small wins constantly through the life of the matter that partners cannot ignore
Thanks for sharing this best practice. It's about the write-downs and write-offs. Or what I've heard, not over servicing. Doing what you'll get paid for. #LPMHQ

Often, we will focus on the junior associate on the team and mentor them on the LPM role. They are often keen to know more about the rest of the matter anyway so often jump at the chance.

Another great best practice! This will be an upcoming topic. What we can impart to younger generation of would be LPMs and what we can learn from them. #LPMHQ

A2: LPM should be part of an org's capability set which would include understanding how practitioners can/should employ it - from scoping, budgeting, & delivery. Leverage their domain expertise in a prac area & bring the right approach and tools to help them execute LPM. #lpmhq
