Introduced with Ts they loved it and 5th & 6th grade completed a challenge this week. https://t.co/WtYbTFCDEb
buzz meaning excitement, anticipation, hooks to get them invested early on in their learning
have you met ? I think you would make a great team!
Or everyone slept in recovering from start of school...uh...bliss
I don't know if this is "buzz" but I showed this vid https://t.co/3RngsCZubz and got them thinking about if they ask Qs
morning! When is your first day?
resisted early start. We start 8/29 w/Ss. Ts started 8/17. All next week is T collaboration no interruptions
Loved the Minion classroom video btw! Posted it for Ss
I enjoy starting mid-August and getting out before Memorial Day!
Glad to hear. I have some kits ordered for the makerclub to have a puzzle day. (September)
Good morning. Had to move to indoors from garden, as began to drizzle in Chicago.
morning! Almost fall-like weather this weekend in Omaha.
Beautiful prayer to start each day.as a Catholic educator.
Good morning everyone! How was first week for those who had school? Sorry I'm late. Slept in :)
Seriously? That is awesome!
I will be in Monday with our new teacher rest come on Tuesday and students on Aug. 22.
yeah! That's buzz. It gets the ss to be mentally present to school, it gives them a reason to buy in. Great video!
Do any of your schools have a theme for the year? If so, what are your themes?
I think my old school is beta testing the same layout
that is awesome! Love the flexibility of the furniture and clean lines.
Please share your successes and failures with and me. We are presenting at on this topic
Classroom theme is "let your love shine"...working on corporal works of mercy
Good morning Bill. You are welcome enjoy reading them. She is adorable.
some games created for Back to School and they are a perfect intro! Hardest part was getting to know locks
"I am the light of the world" from the Gospel of John. Encouraging students to be lights/role models.
Shot Heard Round the World was a big hit
frm teacher: science rooms are amazing! The kids are writing on the walls, the cameras&scopes! All the screens rock!
to answer my own question, I ditched the trad'l syllabus day, teaching procedures and began w labs & design challenge
Afte the training the teachers were almost uncontainable! LOVE that kind of excitement.
Good morning! Those SJs :-).
Look forward to hearing you at All our faculty are going -- students get two Spring Breaks next sem
im a firm believer that i will hand it to them and play dumb. I dont like thinking too hard.
welcome to the field! What grade band do you teach? Blessings on your first year
Working on my Innovator app this weekend? Are you going to try?
Good morning from beautiful, sunny, low humidity Baltimore! Hope all is well with all of you!
We are working on virtues this year. Focusing on building that relationship with God.
that is awesome! I'm sure will have a Tweet Up!
We have Hallmarks from our founding order. Using one this year as a theme:building community
We're doing a super hero theme and calling all Saints. Heavy focus on the lives of saints!
Missing you guys already!
¡Buenos días! Spanish K-8 from here. Looking forward to our 1st day on Monday!
Welcome! Love when ss notice little things...I'm big believer in the Look Good, Feel Good approach
Can't wait for that session
love the idea of using student work!
Good morning from northern Saskatchewan, where the blueberries are abundant & a chilly hint of fall is in the air
I'm having trouble with hoot suite on my tablet, not quite sure what's up, back in a few 😲
Your kids always come up with AMAZING themes!
Are you guys going to mention Pier Giorgio Frassatti? Older kids will love him.
Perfect! We loved the “Back to School” themed games this week
this would work wonderfully with our faith families. Jr high kids adopt younger students as a guide.
had my first 'failure' this week. Too many people, too few puzzles, boxes!
Staff start school this coming Friday, but students don't start until 6 Sept. I've already met one brand new very keen tchr
I'm leaning toward waiting for next one...I'm taking four days off in Sept. for volunteer work 1/2
Working up dating "A Working Reading List for Catholic School Students" for NCEA any new titles of books to add let me know.
have my lesson plan all ready for the Friday before!
not sure yet, but I'll be sure to add him! Thanks!
Focused on how we are called to discover & cultivate the fullness of God-given talents as a responsibility & act of worship.
. “fail often in order to succeed sooner” 1st lab class Ss have to find their own theme and build Google slide
Books dealing with virtues.
great idea! Can't wait to see this list.
I am thrilled you skipped the traditional syllabus day! Wish all of my Ts would have done this!
I gave out holy cards of him this wk as a prize - one HS stu concerned about pic of him smoking
The books from 2012 are still available but need updating.
same here! We have chosen a song and are putting together a video!
A failure in your eyes but to the participants it was a great experience Learn by trying
Students have been back since Aug. 11. Faculty since Aug. 8th. Nice to have laughter & energy back in the halls.
We planned two non-syllabus days but Ts still gave them out more than not. 😢
is now trending in USA, ranking 31
Some of the greatest saints were great sinners. Not the best pic, but do u thinki it "humanizes" him.
your going to have to help me with as it's just different enough from I struggle with it.
thanks! Ss were thrilled they actually got to do something on first few days.
got through a whole semester of intro robotics -- "wow. that is a great question. good luck"
Wow! When do you end in spring?
what a boring way to begin school 😂
not sure I can take more time away after such a busy late Sept.
LOVE it! Admin looking at the strengths of their Ts. I think we would work well together!
Any grade level? Have recently read some good ones
I use on my tablet, until recently worked great. Use on my laptop, no problems there!
I just posted mine in Blackboard, showed Ss where to find it and started straight in
so true, that is why I used quotes around the word. Glad it happened to know how to change it.
That's what I told the student - shows that human, down to earth aspect
cool! Picked by students?
Absolutely and remember we will all learn from you so "your mistake" has great benefits!
Hi Nancy! Hope all is well!!
asks Ss in 7th gr in May what they need to be successful grads. They reflect & develop theme&symbol
unfortunately, no...but they like it! At least my Ss do!
This year finals end May 26th. 180 days...
I'm using 2day on laptop. Had some connectivity issues in past but now very nice.
I always wait to second day for syllabus - focus on building relationships day 1
love how I can block Spammers from as a moderator.
Yes they are Gr. PK-2, 3-5, and 6-8
syallabus...thats that thing always wants me to post.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Theme this yr is Hold Us Together; we pick songs. This is 's. Ss love it. It's unofficially our song every yr
ok will message you with some titles
I like that also. Thank you
smart kids. Ever coordinate shirt on Mass day w/ liturgy color? Gets ss thinking...
You are the best thank you.
How's that working 4U? Seems like to early to go back, even with May end.
you'll have to show me how!
I have teachers that dress in liturgical colors. Dress, tie, socks, jewelry, etc.
its all perspective...so much "balanced calendar" and charter in indy, that we are a late start
Have a wonderful day, everyone! Two little ones getting ready for a walk! Enjoyed reading the B-2-S stories!
was lucky enough to student teach History/Theology in Catholic School too, I got head start on this year.
I bet you'll get in! But if not we can both apply for the next one and hopefully go together.
Ah. Hope you're air-conditioned!
can never go wrong with Matt Maher! I use "End and the Beginning" among others a lot!
Gotta live w/ community needs. All Catholic HS went back on same day. Public Schs started earlier
innovation and integration?
depends on the day and the start of school and whether the converters are being persnickity
I think I have a good idea for my project. Now it's just putting together in a presentation.
With a throwback choice! Love how he mentions, "Transubstantiation" in the song.
collaboration and integration?
I put myself to sleep going over the syllabus! Why would you torture yourself?
Mostly :-) We' re in summer school June-Aug.... had record # of Ss this year. Almost 12 month school
any song with that in it is awesome!!!
I'd love to hear about your idea if you're willing to share
I might drive down for two days because its so close... its also a great city, apparently.
The essentials: Collaboration and Interdisciplinary instruction. This will create mindset for STEAM https://t.co/1DfkvGxYm9
Hoping to use his, & others' music this year more
One of my favorite songs is The Jesus Song by Tom Booth! Used it for school prayer yesterday
I really do but I need to take this trip with my daughter.2018 I may be in Spain! Fingers crossed
We also have summr schl too in June/July. Does ur calendar make the reentry easier, you think?
Love the two graphics...and they are two sides of the same coin really. Great focus!
i thought those were crayons, not coins...man, symbolism is confusing.
Can anyone tell me the need for a syllabus in HS? Do you create one like college where it has the weekly topics?
Nice. We don't go on retreat as faculty/staff until later in semester. Our focus more on reflection & breath
Our Ts have one for every unit with all assignments and due dates.
classroom expectations, grading policy, best way to contact/find class info (BYOT platform) - "all on same page"
Do they go over it every time?
Only one reason-parents want grade policy in print/spelled out.
I hoped to attend, but alas my session proposals were rejected (again) 😢
isn't that in the handbook?
I highlight units, impt dates; incl late wk policy, make up wk; also required by my school to give one
I gave Units with Ss learning goals, grade policy, textbook info. It's in course info in BB.
For some...I fear others don't get any break. Total of 2 wks off. Add sports & they are exhausted.
depends on the grade level. Frosh need more norming than seniors. Once the Ss are confident then no.
They can read it at home. Most do, eventually.
already applied! Hoping for the best!
yes, me too. Also read One for the Murphy's and of course Wonder is right up there also
Have a great week, , best of luck to all those heading this week!
Had one Ts create an infograph for his syllabus this yr. Loved it!! He's also grading based on that Ss growth in the class.
In HS each Ts may be different. HB has more general topics like conduct and uniform rules.
Educators love books and reading - love of learning shows through always!
Yes, we have overall course descriptions that are distributed at start of year too. !
Hi Andrea. Really like your idea on this week's Voxer group for a virtual Catholic edcamp next Summer.
Test scores might go down.
co-curriculars and sports r factors for no 12-mos academic calendar. Not a factor in biz world
Geesh . Also ask for at least scope & sequence. Some list units, others create college level syllabus
I have all freshman this year! Yikes!
We are starting the year with Wonder in my 5th/6th classroom. Such a good book!
for the K-2 Ss Dinosaurs Love Tacos and I Need My Monster
A PowToon might be a nice tool to use for a syllabus as well.
morning, Virginia! That's for sharing.
just seems like there ought to be a better way to get this info out there without boring Ss!
Thank you I do have on my working list all ready.
I’ll be there looking for all of you! Will be presenting "Twitter 101" to make us all stronger!
If You Plant a Seed by Kadir Nelson - beautiful illustrations with a great story.
not heard of this...will look it up
I clearly haven't figured out what they are looking for.
you're assuming its a read along activity. You add some firehoops and dancing sharks...
yeah! Hopefully we aren't scheduled at the same time as in the past. Would love to attend your session
I have not gotten in to infographics yet......sounds like a PD session waiting to happen
I would say the constant on-the-go would be a bit harmful to kids.
I can't tell either! Bro Christopher and Monika had great ideas.
Thank you will look them up.
we need as it does just get read
I hope you can attend as well. I will be promoting !
I love PowToon. Don't use it as often as I'd like to
Totally agree. Trying to change culture by adding relationship building topics 4 Back-2-School Night.
Indeed! It was recommended summer reading and movie comes out next year. We also do precept a day😀 https://t.co/E4FZQxKYTb
We are starting the year with Wonder in my 5th/6th classroom. Such a good book!
I need to look into this one!!
As said, we are in good company 😊
I've used picktochart for inforgraphics - free to start but then paid
Agree but "I can therefore I must" culture shift takes time, relationship & modeling Cul@ConsultJodi
also, there is a benefit to giving kids a base of "this is what is expected, this is what's coming"
I wish the app was more thorough...maybe attach resume. I had to give more info to enter contest than to present
You still have a small population of kids. Competitive, but not overly the top.
Thank you that was the first on my working list.
Actually those are good ideas for parents at BTS night! Less boring!
Missed today 😕Going to get the kids after a week at grandma's! Looking forward to catching up later. Have a great week!
need to get Voxer figured out. any tips? It’s hard to “check in” all of this SM. How do you balance?
I've used ease.ly with my students to have them create / show insights.
some of my Ts create them in Google Draw.
I Will Always Write Back and liked it, girl who gets penpal from Africa in 7th grade sponsors his educ.
Thank you the MS books are the hardest to get.
Agreed!! The submission form is really "thin" compared to other conferences.
I'm nervous about the movie...I'm afraid it will "cheapen" the book
Yep! Have a Physics T like that. Yr 1 took some S/P convincing but Year 2 is off to solid start.Deeper learning
added infographics to curriculum. Great crossovr of data, newsliteracy, art, and communication
Agree! How does everyone keep up?
I Will Always Write Back also has Catholic connection he comes to America and attends college @ Villanova
that's awesome! I'm going to encourage Ts to do that.
There's a "New Teachers To Voxer" Voxer group, but I bet CybraryMan has tutorials.
our experience is "CtfM" culture is experienced outside the school too. countercultural example
is fantastic. Happy to help you get started.
definitely see those corssovers... they do have many purposes- mentioned them to new Stats class T
I gave up on Voxer...it was too much and became a stress more than a help
goodfree infographic tools. we combine w "what is your message" & how to focus. helps w/ digital presentation too
Yes, I do use goodreads all the time.
uh oh, Erin, I just sent you a vox! LOL
In the end, I can't-must pick & choose but part. in chats intros new opts
But Ss can have passionate convos when their fav book is cheapened by a movie interpretation :-)
Yes. My experience is sub. public high schools are much more competitive than Catholic h.s.
No worries! Ill check it for yours :)
