CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Last year I sent an Advent wreath home in a bag each night and the Ss family wrote a prayer to share the next day in class when we lit the class Advent wreath. It usually included a tiny treat to pass along. #CatholicEdChat

Terrific - Happy birthday to your brother too! Google just shared this list with me of people who have birthdays today! https://t.co/O69uNL7Nb0#catholicedchat
A1. We do a Giving Manger in my classroom! Each day we line a small crèche with hay symbolizing whatever good deeds we are doing. The kids love sharing how they are being of service to others! #CatholicEdChat
In tech class for K-3 I would use Kids Pics to create Advent Wreaths. K would learn fill till while older grades would use shapes and other tools to create from scratch. #CatholicEdchat
A1: We are reading and performing Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. It is full of so many beautiful Catholic elements including redemption and conversion experiences. It has much to teach Ss about the Christmas seasons! #CatholicEdchat

It’s the best form of flattery! I saw that Barb did this last year and am doing it as well. I know my Ss will ❤️ sharing their Christmas trees and nativity scenes with each other! #CatholicEdChat
#AdventInAction is an opportunity or your students to live out their faith and promote Catholic Education via social media during the Advent season. #CatholicEdChat
A2: At two schools where I was principal, we did a school-wide prayer service on the third Sunday of Advent. Parents and parishioners came. We sand advent songs that foretold of the Messiah’s birth. #CatholicEdChat
A2: Every class has its own wreath. The wreaths are blessed in a school-wide ceremony at the start of Advent , and teachers “light” (we use yellow paper) the candles with their students as Advent progresses. #CatholicEdChat
Jumping in late. Myrna from Montana. Our school starts each week of advent off with a whole school assembly, where classes lead the prayers and teach about either the Jesse Tree or Nativity (it rotates year to year) #catholicedchat
I have created a template on Google Slides for ANY Catholic School to get up and running with. The daily themes/challenges come from @loyolapress#AdventInAction#CatholicEdChat
A2. We have a Christmas Concert, a “Festival of Lights” featuring dancing from many students’ ancestral homelands. Excited to witness in person! #CatholicEdChat
Convinced a theology T to walk into his room in an excited way and tell the kids ‘something awesome just happened, come on let’s go!’ Took the class to a not so welcoming part of the building (dark/dingy) & read the Christmas story from Luke. #CatholicEdChat
A2 Every morning students come down the hallway in semi-darkness to gather in the school library to light the school Advent wreath and add another symbol to the Jesse Tree. Classes take turns leading. #catholicedchat
I love this idea. I am planning to invite parents in for the blessing of our advent wreaths. A few came last year, hopefully a few more this year. #CatholicEdchat
A2 @BishopMiegeHS Ss will participate in Advent Reconciliation Services on 12/5. We appreciate all the @archkck priests that suppyus that day.✝️🙏 #CatholicEdChat
I sent it out earlier this week. I give Ts the option to pick or be assigned. If there’s one near and dear, they’ll pick it, but most are OK with being given a theme and due date. #AdventInAction#CatholicEdChat
A2: Our Catholic Identity team emailed parents about Giving Thanks and preparing for Advent, including how to replace Elf on Shelf with The Star from Afar. https://t.co/y1atr9zVSS#CatholicEdchat
Thank you SMM families for helping others in need. 10,121 total food items for Heart Ministry Center. 8th grade classes earn top awards. @SMMschoolOmaha#stampouthunger#SMMproud
One of my schools moved school program from end of Advent to the beginning, and it was fantastic! Students and parents focused on reason for season, not the stress of adding to the Christmas rush! #CatholicEdChat
Phew, I am multitasking this morning. In the kitchen prepping some items for the ProLife bake sale. Supports my 8th graders trip to DC in Jan. #catholicedchat
Facebook is an excellent place for schools to connect with parents and the community - be consistent, answer questions, share the good news of your school! #catholicedchat#cathedsocial

#CatholicEdChat, I haven’t been a part of the chat for a while, but I have a request. My grandpa’s funeral is in 20 minutes (10 am EST). If you’re able to hold him and our family in your prayers during that time, I would greatly appreciate it.
Sharing “Advent Calendar” challenges via social media are a great way for parents to understand daily focus and are gentle reminders to continue to keep that focus as home. It’s not just about a piece of chocolate. #CatholicEdChat
Just one more idea to throw out there- you can use @Flipgrid to allow your students to share their Advent/Christmas traditions with each other. It’s all kinds of awwww. #CatholicEdChathttps://t.co/Bas8zjyl29

A1 & A2. Had 8th graders make original Jesse Tree ornaments from Sculpy Dough for school's daily morning assembly. After reading Scripture passages they created best symbol for each person. #CatholicEdChat
A3: I learn a new song or hymn that I don’t know by heart already that focuses my mind on some aspect of Advent. I have done this since I was 7 years old! It is fun remembering songs I picked for certain years. This year’s is “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” #CatholicEdChat
Alright gang, I’ve got some stuff to take care of around the house. Great chat! I hope your schools join in on #AdventInAction this year! #CatholicEdChat
