#DITCHbook was created by Ditch That Textbook author Matt Miller. The chat focuses on innovative teaching ideas and disrupting standard textbook education.
@jmattmiller Evernote is the BEST. I've given numerous workshops on using Evernote and Ts are so appreciative and now have their Ss using it as well. #ditchbook@evernote#ntchat#ipaded
A2 #ditchbook Happiness is vital for sustainable motivation and inspiration! I view happiness as a sort of by-product of education. Interpretation of outcomes vary person to person

💥 BRING IT during the opening keynote!
Excited to see so many of my favorite people all in one place!
A1: My boss from Menards (home improvement store) was awesome to work for! Thanks, Ross. But, in terms of education, it's easily @TonyaWilkinst! Such a positive attitude and cares greatly about all aspects of the building and its successes. #ditchbook
@themaurywood, thanks for the awesome topic on motivation! Hello, I’m Middle School Gifted Specialist from Chapel Hill who runs on a different horsepower #ditchbook
A1 The best boss I ever had is a best friend who truly wanted people around him to perform at their best without allowing it to compromise his best. #ditchbook@themaurywood
By far, and still is, @JustinCopley2 is my fav boss for several reasons, and I've had some really good ones! He trusts my crazy #tlap#DitchBook teaching methods and supports it!
A1(2): Best boss I ever had was a principal named Dolores Stevens. She was a rebel in her own times and fought the district in hiring teachers and support staff that loved the community. #ditchbook

A1. I'm going to say that my mentor in Year #2 of teaching has been m favorite leader! She is not afraid to do what is right for her Ss no matter the initial pushback! #ditchbook
A2 (2): I was motivated by her courage to care about the students and her belief in the staff She trusted us in teaching and we trusted her leadership. #ditchbook
@themaurywood#ditchbook My best boss motivated me to work hard for them by making me feel valued and modeling an endless work ethic. I wanted to be like him.
A2: It does! He let's me bring in the community to do face painting with Lord of the Flies, or cos play as the Red Death in Masque of the Red Death, & knows I work hard to connect Ss to content. #DitchBook

Hi #ditchbook! Jen Walter, from MO. A1&A2: Best admin ever is my current head principal. He is honest without being rude and is a coach, not a dictator. Fair and consistent. Sets the gold standard for both students and staff.
A2. Supported me with what I wanted to do and try in my classroom, and provided so many resources to improve my craft. Reading was/is an area of growth, but she was persistent in mentoring! #ditchbook
A2. Giving me the freedom to try new things, be uncomfortable and allowing me to fail enthusiastically without judgement- providing me with support and encouragement #DitchBook
A3: Didn't actually choose it, per se. My parents were teachers/admin & I swore I'd never be a teacher. Husband's job moved us, a Spn teaching position was open, I took it, and suddenly I was HOME! #DitchBook
A2: She has a neat way of turning something frustrating to looking at it in a positive way. Plus, her relationship building with staff and students is second to none, in addition to being straightforward. A nice balance! #ditchbook#NotLookingForARaise

A2: She leads by example, treats educators as professionals, she’s IN classrooms, and always puts what’s best for students first. It’s easy to follow that kind of leader. #DitchBook
A3 (2): I went into teaching because I had (2) great teachers who opened my eyes to the world and I enjoyed controlling my daily schedule and open the eyes of Ss myself. #ditchbook
A3: Started with a desire to coach football, but student empowerment, personalized learning, and tech integration have grown exponentially in my passions as an educator. #ditchbook
A3: As many times as I think it's the "aha" moment, there's just nothing better than seeing a student reach out for a high five knowing you give them one every day, or that they know they're cared about at school. Nothing beats that feeling. #ditchbook
A3 It's a funny story, I worked in business and was home on mat leave when I was approached about helping out at the local school. I volunteered there and went back to school and changed careers #DitchBook
A3) As a #perpetual nomad #inanimatealice, #TCK, I wanted to be a mentor I never had. In #Korean, there’s a difference between a teacher(sun-sang) and a mentor(seu-seung). Teacher teaches, but mentor models life for their students @themaurywood#ditchbook
A1: Barb from Kansas Kindergarten jumping in late.
Best boss was Mr. Dyck- he was a rebel in his time. Nothing could stop him when he thought it was best for kids!! #IHMarchMadness#ditchbook#tlap
A3. Always wanted to be a teacher, after Priority #1 of becoming Derek Jeter's heir. I guess you know which of the two ended up coming true. ;P #ditchbook
A3. I ❤️kids! I’ve wanted to be a teacher since my elementary years! Know it sounds corny but wanted to make a difference and in return they have made just as much of an impact! #ditchbook
A3: I had AMAZING, inspirational teachers who made me think teaching would be a good career for me...and it’s got a very similar schedule to my kids’ schedule, so... #DitchBook
A4: Easier to motivate Ss. I bring the positivity and energy, "coach" them through the tough parts, create excitement, allow voice/choice, and then push them out of comfort zone. For Ts, do pretty much the same thing, but with the brave few who'll go exploring with me. #DitchBook

A2 #ditchbook My favorite boss motivated me with her attitude. I think it was the way she was always calm and enthusiastic... Never "made mountains out of mole-hills" as they say. Her calm demeanour was like a rock foundation.
A4: Demonstrate benefits and efficiency of innovation. Empathize with difficulties of the classroom. Never ask them to do something I wouldn't want to do. #ditchbook
A4: Be a servant leader. I have grown so much this year by just simply serving as much as I can in the school. Go that extra mile. Love each other. #Ditchbook
Thanks to my 3 supervisors I currently have, they have guided me through the stressful times. They don't ever micro-manage -- they let ME manage so that I can grow from the experience #ditchbook@themaurywood
A4 I am happy, positive and excited to be there with them. I think happiness is contagious, I go out of my way to offer student choice and voice #DitchBook
A4: Confidence and relationships! If a student (or teacher) knows that you believe they will succeed, they're more likely to try. Then, through failing together, they can realize success, as long as the trust and confidence is still strong! #ditchbook
I like to think that I help motivate other teachers through random acts of kindness and recognizing the amazing things they do. Students by trying to create fun activities and building relationships #DitchBook
A4. Call out gifts in students. Encourage them to build on gifts, talents, and passions.
Had an amzing experience today. Struggling S preformed SO WELL at NHD Fair with oral presentation. Affirmed her afterward. She was glowing afterward! Goosebumps moment! #ditchbook
A4: I motivated Ss by project & inquiry based learning and projects. Ideas that incorporated REAL life. I motivated Ts by respecting them & mutual learning and sharing #ditchbook
A6: I love trying new things! I know my enthusiasm and desire to always learn is contagious to students, parents and colleagues.
