Join in the #HISDAdminChat conversation each Sunday night at 6pm CST as we discuss the challenges we face and the successes we celebrate while learning and leading as an HISD Administrator.
Hi! I'm Carol Salva. I'm a @Seidlitz_Ed#ESL consultant, I live in Houston & recently got my principal certification! An ornament shaped like a globe 🌍 . My talent is lifting up children from all over the world & honoring THEIR gifts & perspectives. #HISDAdminChat#ellchat
Hi there! This is Christina and I'd say a bird ornament. Always ready to rise above when needed. One of our trees is a "bird tree", lol! #hisdadminchat
Hi friends! Sandra, proud principal at #DoganNation and when it comes to ornaments, nothing mainstream! I like different, including colors! So happy to have @RGVReaderLeader hosting tonight!

Hi!! Lauren from @ELLevationED here! I would say handmade ornaments best describe me! Looking forward to learning with the rest of #HISDAdminChat tonight!
A1-The greatest gift we can give others is time. Finding the time to meet with others in order to listen or collaborate. It can be a wonderful gift. #HISDAdminChat
A1: We always host a good drive for less fortunate families. We expanded to community service projects at our feeder pattern elementary schools. Gives my MS Ss a sense of leadership and responsibility! #HISDAdminChat
A1: I would say continuing to show empathy and small acts of kindness. It’s also important to remember that the holidays are different for everyone and can be very challenging for some. #HISDAdminChat
A1 - I like to give the unexpected note of praise or thanks. These notes can go a long way with faculty and staff who are giving 110% day after day. #HISDAdminChat
A1: We have been very blessed this past year so I would like to implement a tradition of giving back/paying it forward .. so can’t wait to hear your ideas! #HISDAdminChat
To promote the spirit of a giving culture in the classroom I let the students know that everything belongs to us and it’s not mine. Whatever I have and they may need they are welcome to. I plan on giving every student a wrapped book before Christmas break.
A1: I believe that as leaders we must SERVE our teachers and help them whenever we can so that they can serve our communities better. As much as I can I try to do things for them #HISDAdminChat
A1. I'd like to consider myself a servant leader. Even now in my current work, I try to be "in" the work with my team, so that it is a joint effort. I give mutual respect for the work we do. #HISDAdminChat
A1: we created a Hanz & Franz activity this year. We selected staff members and secretly “pumped each other up” with small gifts or cards. #HISDAdminChat
A1) My students create a #SelfieKahoot game to share on social media. This gives the world and idea of holiday traditions from their countries. #KahootESL#hisdadminchat
A1: I agree with @texasbuckeye Practicing gratitude. For Thanksgiving I wrote individual notes to all my faculty and staff. Each note explained why I was grateful to have them as part of the WES team. Best gift I've ever given. #hisdadminchat

Lol! Three!
I have a bird tree, my daughter has one covered with animal ornaments, and the boys have a large one covered in their favorite ornaments and colors. :)

When dealing with parent concerns, I try to go beyond just solving the incident or the initial cause, what’s the underlying issue? How can I serve and connect with them? Many times they just need a listening ear ♥️👂 #HISDAdminChat

A2) I'm trying something new called Mad Cool Stuff. At recent faculty meeting Ts had chance to complete a MCS Form where they recognize another person that tried something new or did something amazing. Then I am delivering MC Awards tomorrow. Fingers crossed. #HISDAdminChat
A2-Always try to talk to my IT Specialist, @Tommyspall, on ways we can use tech to help our staff and students. We have come a long way becauseof him. Plus, you should follow him. #HISDAdminChat
A2: I really want to work on utilizing the Sibme app. It allows you to give real time feedback for suggestions and questions to ask while the lesson is live or to pinpoint exact times for fixes! #HISDAdminChat
A1 - I like to give the unexpected note of praise or thanks. These notes can go a long way with faculty and staff who are giving 110% day after day. #HISDAdminChat
A2: Just so y’all know my questions were geared for your answers.. Would like to do more with technology in our classrooms.. I have an idea for @Flipgrid for responses from winter break return.. more to come on this ... #HISDAdminChat
A2: We've spent a lot of time the last few years working with our students on incorporating yoga and mindfulness into their daily routine. I would love to develop a plan to extend this learning to our parents and guardians. Next year... #hisdadminchat
A2. Encouraging faculty to participate in an Online Conference over the break. They can participate in sessions that interest them. I'll run a Google Classroom at the same time & share resources that complicate the sessions from the Ditch That Textbook Summit #HISDAdminChat
A3: Honestly, I think the only way to deal with "grinches" is to ignore them. But be careful not to get complacent about spending time on others. Continue to invest time celebrating team successes and grinches have no choice but to grow their heart. :) #hisdadminchat
A3 - Meet a "grinch" head-on with lots of positive vibes. The cliche, misery loves company can be very real. If we as leaders stay on "5" they will either improve their outlook or keep their opinions to themselves. #NotStealingMyJoy#HISDAdminChat
A2. It’s not that new but I don’t see it used that often... I try to follow up fantastic lesson observation with an @Animoto to recap all the magic witnessed ✨ #HISDAdminChat

There are days when I want to apologize for being so excited and passionately engaged in teaching. Fortunately, I get reminded that there are many like-minded educators who put their whole hearts and souls into their work, and I feel less alone. #CelebrateMonday#MondayMotivation
