Question 1: During this school year, what new strategy/practice did you implement that you would highly recommend & why?
A1-Hard for me to pick 1! were the 3 BEST things I tried! Mainly b/c of student engagement!
A1 I started my makerspace in the media center. It was great watching the students explore and learn together.
A1: I have started playing with to aim toward 100% student engagement during group demonstrations.
A1 - I'm working on improving student reflection and synthesis. But no big breakthroughs. Still a work in progress.
A1- I have been working on letting the kids play- Legos, Jenga, citiblocks etc
A1 I introduced students and teachers to and they are loving it. Book discussions will never be the same.
Q2: What is/are the top resource/s you would recommend for someone that wants to try out your strategy/practice?
I had an after school maker space last year that was a ton of fun!
Aimee from Saskatchewan, Canada joining a bit late.
That would be cool.I started parent reading afternoons this year & have had fun with them I might add to it next yr.
What did you have in your makerspace? Looking to purchase a few must have items.
Will be glad to share my blog also. It has been fun.
A1 was BEST new thing I tried this yr: inquiry+prob solving+collab+literacy+Math+tech - all in 1 engaging activity
A2 Check out https://t.co/ut0J7aWbG7 for everything you'll need to run your own Breakout. So much learning, so much engagement

Question 1: During this school year, what new strategy/practice did you implement that you would highly recommend & why?
Ps and Ss come in for a read aloud we do stations based on skills they need so parents can see ways to help them. .

Q 3: Can't wait to check out all your ideas! What obstacles did you overcome to effectively implement the new strategy/practice?
Legos were the most used item. I'll send links when I get home to our activities.
A1 Hey! Finally caught a ! I began using science notebooks and design notebooks this year. So hard, so worth it.
A3-I had to convince myself that it was ok for 5th graders to play at school.
I've been hearing a lot about breakoutedu and have been meaning to check it out.
We've done three so far, all tied to our current novel. Now Ss are designing breakout for peers to solve Friday!
There's a simple machine breakout on the website! Lots of science topics!
A3: Wifi was spotty and that was a struggle, but I discovered our private network was much better and got our IPADS added.
Q3: SS have a hard time documenting observations/plans in notebooks. They SAY a lot, WRITE little. It's a long process & that's OK.
A3 Obstacle to Breakout: getting supplies. $$$ if you get it all at once. I put my kit together bit by bit via amazon
Q4: What were the benefits of your new learning for both you & your students?
A3 Still working on this I only see Ss every other wk so it makes it hard to continue projects.Spending summer getting it planned.
A4: Ss were no longer sitting waiting for people to come up to the board. Everyone was interacting with material.
A4- showed me how extraordinary Ss can be when given freedom to pursue their passions! Far exceeded my expectations!
A4 Benefits of Breakout: skill improvement (prob solv, teamwork, perseverance), high student engagement, strengthen relationships
A4 Our Breakouts tied to current novel, so Ss deepened understanding of story/characters, reread to find clues, debated theories
A4 Students engaged and excited about being there. Not wanting to leave when their teachers came for them. Always a plus.
A4-Mystery Skype provides an incredible problem-solving experience & teaches geography & is just a plain fun game!
