Welcome to #flipclass chat introduce yourself, subject, level, yrs flipping? What do you like about spring? Tonight we’re talking about the importance of student feedback. #flipclasschat#flipclass
Mickie, 8th grade Pre-Alg & Alg1, 4th yr #flipclass, I typically like the warmth of Spring, but this year it seems reluctant to get there & stay there. #flipclasschat
MAtthew from Illinois, HS math and flipping for 7ish years. favorite part of spring was shorts yesterday and a good dusting of snow today #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclass#flipclasschat Roy, fashionably late from Bama. Science Specialist in Rome, Ga. Flipped 4+ yrs. Pollen is one of the best things about spring! (I hope you catch the sarcastic tone.)
Well, @matthew_t_moore is speaking. And we have 22 other awesome folks lined up to talk #flipclass and #EdTech. Also, the second day of our conference is going to be attendee driven. Sessions and workshops that people want. It’ll be fun... awesome actually.

Tonight we're talking about feedback from students, collecting, uses, tools., etc. Please use the hashtags #flipclass and #flipclasschat (for less clutter).
I am kind of dreading this year's feedback as I was unable to do it in the fall as I had a week out with health issues. now with the aforementioned flu and recent surgery I have been out again so I am afraid absent T flip not as good as present T flip #flipclass#flipclasschat
You ain't kidding!!! but there is alot that can be learned from even the most vitriolic responses...infact they can be the most informative #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclasschat A1: Feedback seemed even more important when I did #flipclass than when I did not. Flipping is taking a step out, a risk. Feedback is even more important when stepping out with something different.
A1 my big question I like is "do you feel you do better/worse/the same/ i will get what I want no matter the format question. because my first year I could compare fall grades(preflip) to spring(postflip) #flipclass#flipclasschat
A1 I can still compare S grades in my flipclass to their previous trackrecord without flip and determine if their perception of their performance is generally accurate #flipclass#flipclasschat
A1. will only be starting to start flipping class. if i will ask a question. i will ask what do they like more, flip class or standard lecture class? then ask why and ways how to improve.
#flipclass
A2: I find it hard to get SPECIFIC feedback from SS. And sometimes they tell me what they think I want to hear (It's awesome! Don't change a thing!). I need to know WHAT'S good and what could be improved. #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclass#flipclasschat A2: Understanding and depth of understanding is my stock answer. On a less measurable note, I knew I was doing well when kids were learning and having fun at the same time.
A2 I know as math guy I am geeking out here but I look at the top "good" vote getters and top "bad" vote getters in the year over year and fall vs spring feedback and see if those items are changing in response to changes I make. #flipclass#flipclasschat
A2. now that i think about it.. i do apply flipclass already.. the best feed back is them having fun and learning. they tell me what they don't know and i guide them. then they return to what they are doing.

When I 1st started #flipclass, I met resistance from the kids who knew how to play school. They took good notes, studied wel, got good grades when they regurgitated knowledge. Change of routine shifted their gears. Finally, they realized I wasn't changing back. #flipclasschat
We had a big physics team 2 flipped 4 traditional. Common curriculum, common tests, labs and quizzes. We compared benchmark, finals and end of course data. #flipclass was much better.
A3: My ideal would be feedback after every unit (on assessment). I definitely get it after 1st grading period, 1st semester, & end of year. #flipclass#flipclasschat
@collsphysistry don't have the latest data handy but here is my SE Semester exam grades vs OV Overall course grades in a fairly traditional grading system what I look for is shrinking difference as representing long term mastery rather than learn/forget #flipclass#flipclasschat
A3 always asking for conversational feedback when I try something new in my college class. Need to do something more formal so I can adjust for summer classes #flipclass#flipclasschat
Had to have the data when convincing excellent science Ts flipping #flipclass is worth trying. Sure learn new stuff, change the lectures that work, fill your class with new activities. #flipclasschat
A2 Where data comes in handy is the providing evidence to admin, guidance dept, parents, etc that shows effective performance gains and broader opinions than that of a single student or potentially discontent few. #flipclass#flipclasschat
A3. maybe once in a while. For me the best feedback is Seeing them learn and others thanking you for the class. we can't please all but if we feel we lack something then we approach them and ask what to improve in the class. i always ask them whats up in class.

When I solicit informal feedback, the most common issue/complaint is along the lines of what @bamaguy1218 mentioned earlier: kids can't 'play school' like they used to #flipclass

A4: My favorite tool is a Google Form. I can give multiple choice and open-ended questions, see all the pie charts, and look at answers all together in a Google Sheet. #flipclass#flipclasschat
'Tis the season of high-stakes testing in my neck of the woods. I'm sure all your students love high-stakes testing. (Am I being sarcastic again?) #flipclass#flipclasschat
A5: I end each feedback survey with "What else would you like Mrs. Gibbs to know?" so they can share anything, even if it's not school or #flipclass related. #flipclasschat
#flipclass#flipclasschat A5: Feedback helps the teacher, and it can help the student. On occasion a student should know how well they understand concepts.
A5. share the feedback to your colleagues. So they have an idea what flipclass is too. this can help them in teaching. they can also give you some notes.

What about email to parents from S about their performance? Have Ss email once a week and cc us. Include strengths, weaknesses, and feedback about lessons... #flipclass

We love #flipclass and #flipclasschat but summer is kind of crazy and many of us are involved in conferences #ILfabCon#FliptechEC etc and would love to share the #flipclass moderator duties so follow the form link and volunteer and give topics
