The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.

My name is Tiffany, and I'm a 6th grade science teacher from Scottsburg. In addition to my day job, I'm an innovation specialist for the Office of eLearning. Thanks @Indiana_CS for leading tonight's chat! #excited#INeLearn
Keep the intros coming!
Tonight’s topic focuses on CS Education Week (Dec. 3-7). Be sure to use the Q1, R1 format and include the #INeLearn hashtag. Q1 is coming up!
R1: I think teaching CS is important because all students should be given the opportunity to understand how technology works, to learn how to be creators, coders, and makers — not just consumers. #INeLearn#CSforIN

R1: because or world is becoming more and more dependent on CS skills. Do we want our Ss to be trendsetters or left behind in the foam after the wave? #INeLearn

I love watching the amazing things my students create. I have a student who has been creating his own world in @gotynker all yr. He adds something new each day. #INeLearn
R1 I think teaching CS is important so Ss can read code and introduce them to coding. If they like CS then we can teach them how to modify and write code. #INeLearn
Q1: ... computer science is a way of thinking and problem solving, usable in every area of life, not just school. CS not only provides unlimited opportunities for students, but educators as well. #INeLearn@INeLearn
R2: During CSEdWeek, we are working to create a larger network of CS stakeholders within the state of Indiana. Trying to foster better communication for CS educators! #INeLearn#CSforIN
R1: I think teaching CS is important because it is another dimension of learning. These are the skills that our students use in their day to day life and we need to value and enhance what they know and not stay stagnant with what once worked. #INeLearn
R2 We are having lunch talks. Wednesday- some advanced CS Ss, Thursday- someone from Google is hanging out, and Friday- some CS students from @NotreDame are talking to our Ss #INeLearn
R2: I love CS Ed week! I have planned some activities in @codeorg and I’ve been playing around with some website building projects in Bio 1. And there could also be some donuts or cookies in celebration because I love donuts 🤷🏻♂️ @INeLearn#INeLearn

R2: As the media specialist, I’ve planned for k-6 Ss to participate in #HourofCode during their library class! I’ve also posted the Hour of Code flyer in the staff newsletter letting Ts know I’ll be there support them if they try it! #INeLearn
R2 I have scheduled for our whole Elementary school to stop next Tuesday morning and join together to participate in the Hour of Code. I am recruiting ALL staff to join us (@SethPonder we would LOVE for you to join in the fun). #INeLearn

My door is always open for higher ed, military, trades, and industry partners to come to my class. My Ss can only handle so many bad dad jokes. #INeLearn
R3: We can increase participation by sharing our resources and success stories with one another. Showing the importance of CS through these outlooks can show others how important it is for our students. #INeLearn#CSforIN
R3 Last year I created a module in @CanvasLMS that broke the #HourofCode materials into Mac vs. iPad compatible categories. The module was pushed to the whole school for Ss. I think it really helped make it more accessible for everyone. #INeLearn

R3 @SethPonder and myself have run an after school Tech Club which included coding at my school for 3 - maybe 4 yrs now. It has helped. As the Digital Integration Specialist, I go and model the lessons in classrooms to get TS and Ss excited. #INeLearn
R3: we can advertise/promote and as coaches, offer support. Coding is intimidating, so just knowing there is someone there who can help prepare and/or co-teach during #HourofCode can increase participation #INeLearn
R3: I think it’s all about accessibility. So many teachers don’t know what is possible, and as a CS teacher in my building, one by one, I show them what is possible! And when we have those genuine, professional conversations, students win. @INeLearn#INeLearn
Coding does seem so intimidating. That's what is so great about programs like @SwiftPlayground@gotynker@scratch because they create a user-friendly interface to teach basics in a fun way! #INeLearn

@JessicaZepik, @SwiftPlayground, @gotynker, @scratch
Accessibility is so important for Ts. Sometimes computer science can be intimidating at first so providing a platform for teachers to easily access it can be beneficial! #INeLearn#CSforIN

Agree. It took two weeks for all of the classes to cycle through, plus I left all of the links up on our Destiny Home Page. They are used throughout the year. #INeLearn
R4 The past two years were easy because I taught a CS-driven course. Now I have to be more intentional with the time I have. So...I'm going with TIME. #INeLearn
When the teachers bring their classes to the library, they see how most of the students just "take off" on their own. It's also a great opportunity to offer the students choice. #INeLearn
#inelearn Time and lack of knowledge of how to teach the CD standards, algorithms, parallelization, hierarchy and abstraction, translation, and logic circuits.
R2: Our district media specialists will have coding sessions for all K-5 students. Talk about coding and jobs will happen during morning announcements. All K-12 students have coding options in google classroom and Canvas. 👩🏻💻😊 #inelearn
R4 Time and training go hand in hand as an obstacle. Ts want to become trained in CS but lack the time they need to actually attend the training. #INeLearn#CSforIN
R4: the biggest challenge is that it’s seen as another thing piled upon already full plates...I don’t think anyone is against teaching CS...the pushback I always see is finding the time in strained schedules #INeLearn
R4 Biggest challenge is when a T asks to to code but won't accept "We don't have all the answers. There are many ways to get the right answer. The Ss will teach you." #INeLearn
R4: Some feel it is one more thing to fit in their day rather than focusing on tge integration within current content. That’s why PD amd sharing what others are doing is so vital. 👩🏻💻😊 #inelearn
My husband IS a computer programmer with a degree in computer engineering, and even HE sometimes gets stumped with a student question. HAHA! It's just not possible to know all the right answers. #INeLearn
Oh man, the first year I taught POE at my current school, one student in my class had been coding since age 7. There was nothing I could teach him about VEX & RobotC. I just offered his team their pick of projects, sat back, and watched the magic happen. #INeLearn
R5: We use https://t.co/u4Jagh4Grx, CS First by Google, Tynkercad, Scratch is a fav.. Eager to know more places for resources always. I rely on my PLN on Twitter heavily to see what they are using for resources as well. #inelearn 👩🏻💻😊
R5: Our CSforIN website has a great resources page that highlights resources available for teachers and students as well as curriculum options for teacher. #INeLearn#CSforIN
R5: I have been searching the earth high and low for biology AR or VR apps! I have contacted developers and it has been a mission of mine to either learn to create what I need or find someone else who can! @INeLearn#INeLearn

R6 Baby steps. Select a program that has a lot of resources such as CS First. The video tutorials may help the T more than the Ss. I also enjoy @SwiftPlayground because I can do a Google search for solutions if needed. #INeLearn
R7: Do it! Indiana has a great network of educators who support one another and are eager to help. Reach out to other CS educators and you will get the support you need! #INeLearn#CSforIN

R6 To tackle the hardware vs. software IN CS standard, I went with a Kano computer kit which allowed Ss to be hands-on w/ that skill. I also used our district tech guys who gave Ss tours of behind the scenes infrastructure. Use your people resources. #INeLearn
Exactly! I also made it my mission to code when my Ss were coding my first year. I used https://t.co/kD0jqnZitB and learned Java. We would share in our struggles as we learned together. #IneLearn
R6: My advice for Ts is that they do not have to have ANY experience themselves with CS! Take advantage of resources and initiatives like #HourofCode and give your students the opportunities they deserve! #INeLearn
To stay involved in CS after CSEdWeek, join our network of Indiana educators on our website at https://t.co/fPiGBPtkaf! We provide monthly CS updates as well as Community Calls gauged toward your questions. #INeLearn#CSforIN
