This is the official Twitter account for #OklaEd, thehashtag that brings OK educators together. #OklaEd is not political & promotes constructive dialogue.
There are a few of us here @FollowSNU lurking on the #oklaed chat tonight. I'm sharing twitter as PD for some of our teachers at our lab school, some of my #SNUEd students, and a @PutnamCityOK teacher. Looking forward to what @k20center is going to guide us through tonight
Krista Steiner, Spanish Educator in Clinton #cpsreds I love the inspiration and continuous learning that the #oklaed Chats provide. Always a ton of great information!!!
Eric Justin Bates Band/Choir/Humanities Oklahoma Union Schools. I love the #oklaed chat is it is a chance to interact with fellow educators from all over the state and share ideas.

A1 - I believe authenticity is about understanding the needs of your Ss in a society that is changing. It is adapting and being open to change. It is creating an environment that prepares Ss for the future they will actually live in. #oklaed
A1: Authenticity is ANYTHING that a student does which has real world relevance to applying content knowledge to real world situations..... In other words, an assignment that isn't a damn worksheet! #oklaed
A2: In the world language classrooms we classify authentic resources as real life publications, videos, or audio that has actually been used in the "real world" in the target language. #oklaed
A1: Authenticity is being transparent with your students. Keeping things real. If you mess up it's admitting to the mishap and moving on. It's showing them we are not perfect, & not expecting them to be. #oklaed
A1) Authenticity in the classroom is the organic development of the lesson as it happens in real time. It is dynamic and leaves the confines of the lesson plan and evolves into useful dialogue and learning among students with a teacher facilitating the process. #oklaed
A2: Knowing your population and finding the delivery system of content to fit their needs. Also, knowing your strengths and growth areas within your content area. #OklaEd
A1: Authenticity is reality -that of the S - and relating classroom materials back to that reality. #oklaed It's teaching standards in a way that help the Ss relate it to their lives or futures.
A1: Knowing your population, and finding an appropriate delivery system of content to meet the needs of your Ss. Also, knowing your areas of strength and growth within your content. #OklaEd
examples of Non Authentic Assignments: 1) Do qu1estions at the end of each section. 2). Do odd questions 1-30 and even 32 through 48, 3). Do the Chapter Review Questions, 4). Write out the questions and underline the nouns and circle the verbs. #oklaed
#OklaEd A1: Authenticity in classroom instruction is facilitating learning in an environment that accepts the reality that there is very little (other than the ones based upon definition: 2+2=4 because of the definitions of 2, 4, +, and =) discussed that is free of uncertainty.
I hate we don’t talk enough about knowing your population and how to do that. Been told it is because of testing. However, Ts didn’t do it well when I was in school either. No testing then. #oklaed
A1) Authenticity is being legimate with students about information AND the way you present it. Most of these Ss will see right through you if you aren’t. #oklaed
A1) Authenticity has to be believable instruction. It’s my responsibility to enjoy what I’m teaching and believe students will prosper from my area so they can be inspired from what I believe. #oklaed
A2: Authenticity is very necessary. It ensures your students will trust you. Ss can't learn from someone they don't trust or can't relate to. If you're real w/them, they feel at ease, & their minds open to learn. #oklaed
Q2 Hell yes, authenticity matters: What good does it do for #oklaed Ss to learn the content, if they don't know how to APPLY the content to their daily lives; why learn standards if you can't use them?
A2 - Authenticity is absolutely necessary - no relevance = no engagement. If Ss can’t see the real life implications of their education, then they will constantly ask themselves “what’s the point?” If I, as a T, can’t connect it to real life, I should ask the same ? #oklaed
The most effective lessons use real life situations. For example, to teach a math standard to find the length of one side of a triangle you can use a ladder on the side of the house scenario. It's not difficult to mesh the two. #oklaed
If your Ss have to spend all their time trying to decide to trust you or not you're not being authentic. And you wasted all of class time confusing them. #oklaed Authenticity is very necessary.
Happy SUNday, #OKLAED! Lara with #NSUEngEd in Tahlequah... will follow chat later because #currentstatus = bedtime routine! Rough when I’m on summer, but my kids aren’t yet. Enjoy your week!
A2: #OklaEd Because kids won’t listen unless you their (somewhat) language. Their brain development needs to be respected. Speak at their level: age, culture, race, etc.
A2: Absolutely! Well, for some subjects. But everyone ought to be able to multiply, tell at what degree water boils, and use subject-verb agreement correctly. But they'll be more willing to study and learn if they see how it relates to them. #oklaed
A2: and for the record, state assessments are the ABSOLUTE worst mechanism to determine if an #oklaed Ss has learned how to apply their content knowledge to the world. It is really a joke..... a bad joke
A2: Yes it’s necessary. Authenticity allows teachers to get into the students circle so to speak, it’s where real learning happens. The good stuff! #oklaed
A2) Yes it is. If you are authentic, you are able to connect with them and they are more likely to be authenticity engaged in what you are teaching. #oklaed
A2: Definitely necessary. My job is to build critical thinkers that can solve problems independently or collaboratively, rather than indoctrination of knowledge. Goal is to prepare Ss for life, so what better way than with authentic content and tasks #oklaed
A2 It is absolutely VITAL in World Language classes. Our focus must be on communicating and using the language in real-world situations. Not teaching the students "about" the language. Authenticity makes is REAL. #oklaed
A2: YES!!! Being Authentic is being REAL! It’s a passion for the subject you are teaching!! We have to own our teaching if our Ss are going to own their learning. #OklaEd
A2: Authenticity is very necessary. It ensures your students will trust you. Ss can't learn from someone they don't trust or can't relate to. If you're real w/them, they feel at ease, & their minds open to learn. #oklaed
A2. Teachers would be negligent if lessons are not authentic. We have to produce some problem solvers for problems that do not even exist yet. Jeopardy is the only opportunity to make money by answering mundane questions. #Oklaed#What is authenticity?
A2 It is absolutely VITAL in World Language classes. Our focus must be on communicating and using the language in real-world situations. Not teaching the students "about" the language. Authenticity makes is REAL. #oklaed
Nancy Williams -Idabel joining late. A1 Authenticity is something that a student relates to and sees a purpose. It depends on their life experiences and their mindset. It would be different for my first graders than someone in HS. #oklaed
A2: and for the record, state assessments are the ABSOLUTE worst mechanism to determine if an #oklaed Ss has learned how to apply their content knowledge to the world. It is really a joke..... a bad joke
A2: Authenticity is crucial to student engagement. It's a learning environment, a give and take, team effort that the Ss HAVE to be a part of!! #oklaed
A2: In todays information age, we can’t afford to not have authenticity at the center of our teaching. They need to navigate the world now not later. #oklaed
A2 if it’s not relevant to Ss, why would they care or buy in? I want Ss to know that learning in my first grade class is preparing them for something more/greater...I need them to believe that b/c it’s true and in order for them to believe that I need to be authentic. #OklaEd
A2 My head is full of "useless" information. Let Ss pick up the "useless" info on their own time. If you can't make the value of your content known to them you are beating your head against the wall. #oklaed
A2 Absolutely! Authentic learning is the real deal, learning sticks, and students have better understanding of solving problems in the real world. #OklaEd
Thankfully I have great relationships with my peers. Unfortunately, they think what I do is a gift and they can only do it if they have a gift. #oklaed
THIS! I want so badly to redesign high school! I want high school to be real world PBL that works across content areas! Imagine the relevance and engagement that would happen
You’ve caught to work on this! Remember the walkout when you had a such a status quo support and you received hate for it. Yeah glad that’s over! 👌🏼👊🏼 #oklaed
A3: Being able to relate it to my life or classroom - I don't like learning something I'll never use, unless it is really interesting, which even trumps authenticity as motivation to learn #oklaed
A3 I like getting to the point of the lesson quickly. There are times when I see where a lesson/presentation are going, but it takes FOREVER to get to the point. #oklaed
A3: If it's something I can relate to, and take back to my classroom and use. I saw it in a real world experience, instead of someone just talking at me. Make it authentic by showing how it's done. Not telling how it's done. #oklaed
#OklaEd A2: Authenticity is absolutely necessary! Ss need to experience the gathering, evaluating, and using information gathered and skills developed in situations where uncertainty makes developing and assessing the potential of responses much tougher (e.g., real world).
A3) Authentic learning experiences have a problem, seeks not only an answer, but an explanation. In authentic learning, the explanation is vastly more important than the answer. #oklaed
A3) For me, authenticity in learning is something I can use in my daily practice, or see myself doing if I was in the situation. If it seems fake or pretend then I am not interested. #oklaed
A3: Why do we have to learn this stuff? Oh...that makes sense. Ok let's do this! I love when my prior kids say remember that thing we learned, I used it! #oklaed
We want everyone to see the trends of answers here tonight. Authentic learning experiences are not mysterious things! We KNOW what they need to look like. #oklaed
A3) Jimmy in Cushing. This is not a real world application: "If you jump out of and airplane, but you have no parachute, and wind resistance does not exist. How long will take for you to land?" #oklaed
A3 - I learn best when I find relevance in what I’m learning & can connect it back to my life immediately. I learn when I collaborate & work through situations with people who know what they are talking about. I find it authentic when it requires self-reflection. #oklaed
A3) Authentic learning experiences have a problem, seeks not only an answer, but an explanation. In authentic learning, the explanation is vastly more important than the answer. #oklaed
A3.. Teach me something I am interested in. Show me how my specific talent can be used to make some money or be successful. Teach me how to make a difference for others. Personalize it for me so that my interests are included in the learning. #Oklaed#sulphurmiddle
If I am teaching long division, I need to show my Ss why they need to know this.. and not just stand up there and say first you divide, then you multiply, then you subtract, then bring down. They would be lost and so would I. #oklaed
Speaking of authenticity. I am thinking of doing an almost free PBL training (3 days) this summer in July. Who would pay for just the cost of materials and location ($20) to attend? #oklaed
Authentic =
1. when will I use this,
2. real life connections,
3. teacher being real about why I must know it,
4. Centered around my interests?
#oklaed
A2) authentic would be real-world experiences that meet the needs of each students learning style while still respecting the teachers teaching style. #oklaed
A3: For a learning experience to be authentic I ask...What choices do I have? What changes will I be able to make? And will it change my future? #oklaed
Failure isn't a very accurate word, IMO...... failure is only permanent if the person accepts it and walks away...... it is just a "draft" or a learning experience if one rejects failure and reworks the problem. #oklaed
A3: When I am able to relate what I’ve learned to what I do on the daily, that’s authentic learning to me. Always try to to model that for our kids. Even on disciplinary situations. #oklaed#SandmanUniverse
We want everyone to see the trends of answers here tonight. Authentic learning experiences are not mysterious things! We KNOW what they need to look like. #oklaed
Authentic =
1. when will I use this,

#oklaed
A3) Authentic learning experiences have a problem, seeks not only an answer, but an explanation. In authentic learning, the explanation is vastly more important than the answer. #oklaed
A4a it’s easier to do things the way we learned them or the way we’ve always done it or the way the test will assess it or the way we think our principal wants to see it or.... #oklaed
#OklaEd A3: when I’m addressing situations for which the learning needed is not obvious and for which the use of that learning is not straightforward - involving false starts, poor choices, further learning, and tough choices of preferred plan of attack.
A4 Honestly sometimes it takes time (that many Teachers don't have) to FIND the resources. Much easier to twist it around and have the STUDENTS figure it out and find ways to use the information in the "Real World" They will remember it better as well. #oklaed
A4a The implied or explicit command to teach the text/teach to the test. Some poorly written textbooks don't provide for authentic instruction (The textbook is a resource, not a script) #oklaed
A4: Lack of knowing how their content is authentic is a huge reason. Next is not wanting to take the time to plan for it to happen. I am going to have to jump off soon to plan a PBL #oklaed
A4: The challenges with new learning experiences can be huge, how do you implement them, what if they fail, what if, what if, what if. Sometimes the failure is the learning experience and the kids can help iron out the details #oklaed
A4. Hard to authenticate when you have 30 in your classroom or do not have adiquate materials to teach with. Planning time and getting community help is on us though. You want to authenticate learning?..get community leaders to come in and show how they use algebra. #oklaed
A4: Time and bigger class sizes. Big classes make it more challenging to get to know your students. It’s important to be visible and available outside of your class time. #oklaed
A4: At home we have children to take care of. At work during plan or off duty days we have meetings. Eliminate meetings bc you can't eliminate my children. :) but seriously, time doesn't allow for it. #oklaed
A4) Some of the barriers for our teachers are the same for our students. Finding ways to relate something to real-life requires experiences that may be foriegn to teachers whom may not have different backgrounds or resources to draw from to make it authentic. Time. Money. #oklaed
A4. The main one I've seen is modeling/participating in a real one. When educators see it being done and participate in a real authentic lesson, unit and/or project, it becomes more real to them and they make the connections easier in own practice. #oklaed
A3) I like to have a chance to understand why I am learning something and have a chance to practice and get help if I need it while I’m practicing. #oklaed
A4 We get all tied up teaching the curriculum instead of the students. Making it authentic takes more work and planning if you just have your eye on the subject and not on the learner. #oklaed
A4: The biggest variable is time, IMO. In other countries, Ts teach less than half the time of an American T; #oklaed Ts need have double or triple the plan time and should have about half the Ss they have today. We know Ts are overworked and over saturated with Ss.
Failure isn't a very accurate word, IMO...... failure is only permanent if the person accepts it and walks away...... it is just a "draft" or a learning experience if one rejects failure and reworks the problem. #oklaed
Hard to authenticate when you have 30 in your classroom or do not have adequate materials to teach with. Planning time and getting community help is on us though. You want to authenticate learning?..Get community leaders to come in and show how they use algebra. #oklaed
I do an interest survey at the beginning, and also try to provide as much student choice in what they read and write about as possible. Also, listen to them throughout the year. #oklaed
4) I think many Ts are afraid to steer from their textbook. If you begin with a few topics that you really like and plan authentic learning relating to those topics then each year add some more #oklaed
A4) It’s not easy! It takes Ts time to plan and integrate meaningful, authentic learning experiences. On the other hand, worksheets are easy-sadly! #oklaed
A4 Some think they don’t have time to do that and cover the nuts and bolts of the standards. But the OAS is the outline not the totality of what should be taught. #oklaed
I think authenticity makes it last longer in your mind or life. I have learned a lot of things w/o authenticity. Don’t think I remember most of it. #oklaed
Research has shown that T feedback is one of the most influential applications to improving Ss achievement, yet in #oklaed, we want our Ts to have minimal time and maximum Ss per educator. Just the complete opposite of what we now know what works for increasing attainment
A4b) Flip it around so that the students have the challenge of finding great authentic resources or ways to use their knowledge outside of the classroom. They can either present the info to the class or just start a file of GREAT FINDS. #oklaed
A4b time....you have to invest time in redesigning what you do, teaching new procedures to your kids, explaining to admin why you’re doing things this way...and time is a valuable and scarce commodity in #oklaed
A4B: It all comes with sacrifices. Stay up late to make the magic happen. It's worth it to know that my Ss will have a fun day, bc that makes my job easier. #oklaed
A4) it is sometimes hard to find activities that allow for deeper understanding and many times we don’t have the supplies we need for hands -on activities. #oklaed
A4b: Work with your peers, bounce ideas off of each other, take time to plan but only attack one project at a time. Don't worry about possible failures, have the kids help plan it out. #oklaed
A4) Ts that are prepared daily, know the objectives/standards are great at this. They are explicit and look for opportunities to make the teaching authentic. Many times authenticity is spur of the moment. #oklaed
A4b know the State Standards, know S needs and interests, use textbooks, library books, online resources etc... to provide an authentic learning experience. #OklaEd
#OklaEd A4a: Mandates as to dealing with standards, preparing for standardized testing, mandates of lesson plans, lack of experience with doing authentic learning, stress with yielding learning control to students, worry / stress associated with developing driving questions, ...
A4B: Trust you have the ability to do so! A good Les Brown quote says, "When life knocks you down, try to land on your back. Because if you can look up, you can get up. Let your reason get you back up!" #oklaed
A4b Overplan and plan ahead. It takes time to come up with lessons that authentic, the longer you teach the more tools you have in your belt and the "easier" it gets #oklaed
A4b change the mindset from believing T’s will not do what’s best for S’s w/out heavy handed mandates. & stop believing S’s will only learn when there is a grade or punishment over their head. #oklaed
A4B) Since I’m insecure about test scores and how authentic learning could help or hinder them, I suppose I could try to convince the newspaper not to publish my scores. (Fat chance, huh?) I need to feel secure in the results. #oklaed
A4b - I make relationships a priority in my classroom. Yes I care about the content I teach, but I feel like that will take care of itself. I can keep my mind open & self-reflect when I really know my students, their stories, & their needs. #oklaed
A4B) Since I’m insecure about test scores and how authentic learning could help or hinder them, I suppose I could try to convince the newspaper not to publish my scores. (Fat chance, huh?) I need to feel secure in the results. #oklaed
#OklaEd A4b: Participating in chats like this, discussion with your PLN, EdCamps, summer institutes, group efforts to work together to develop and experience authentic learning, ...
A4B: FOR THE LOVE...stop taking a weekly grade for ABC order when we mastered that back in Oct. That is not authentic and is a waste of time. You can circle back around, its no longer authentic #oklaed
So hate I have to leave. Been a sloth all weekend & need to prepare the final PBL of the year. Ss are doing a flashpoint style debate on a statistics heavy topic. #oklaed see you next week.
A5 A large variety of books, librarians who can help teach students how (and why!) to research, and plenty of time to write. Also, smaller class sizes so teachers can spend more time getting to know their students. #OklaEd
A4b) I have a great team and colleagues to get ideas from, I have some blogs I love to follow! If you need some great math lessons check out the Oklahoma Math Frameworks! #oklaed
A5 - Technology, partnerships with business in the community, time to plan effectively, PD on labor market needs, classroom funding so class sizes are small :) #oklaed
A5: supportive and innovative admin! I worked for the best Dr. Joe Siano. He believed in me. Also, coworkers who challenge you to be better. Trauma-informed Education really aligns with this. Just sayin. #OklaEd
A5: Well, currently my Ss are getting ready to plant a container garden. So if anyone has any plastic pools or spare pots laying around, we'll be glad to take them! #oklaed
A4B: FOR THE LOVE...stop taking a weekly grade for ABC order when we mastered that back in Oct. That is not authentic and is a waste of time. You can circle back around, its no longer authentic #oklaed
A5) For World Language classrooms it is easy to find resources on the internet including podcasts, newspapers, magazines, videos, music, and even movies in the target language. But these can all probably be tweeked for other subjects with a little imagination. #oklaed
A5 many times we need to get our minds wrapped around what authentic learning opportunities look like. @k20center PD offerings are great for this! #oklaed
A5: Technology, get your librarian on board to Co-teach, could even rotate with teammates to cover certain topics of a lesson to make it more interesting, (just an idea). So many options.. think outside the classroom, go outside. #oklaed
A5) When I was in the classroom I looked for real issues in the community. We brought speakers to present both sides of the issue to the students. The students researched the issue and came to a decision. They presented to the city council. #oklaed
A5) If you are being authentic about what you are teaching, you find the resources to be that way. You know that different Ss need different things. Some need technology, some need more time, some need a more visual or tactile approach. #oklaed
A5 Hmm...it depends on the standard or skill, it depends on the kind of learning environment you’re after. If your looking to create a 21st century learning environment, tech resources, space to creat, and build, opportunity for collaboration. #OklaEd
4B or 5?)I love to relate things to real life. Birdwatching is something I introduced to our students K-12 by letting them be citizen scientists by hooking a live feed of bird feeders up in library and any teacher could bring their class & I taught Ss how to record data #oklaed
A5) I would need to travel extensively with students to New York, Santa Fe, Seattle, San Francisco, and Orlando. That would be pretty authentic! So I guess I need a traveling budget.😁 #oklaed
A5 A large variety of books, librarians who can help teach students how (and why!) to research, and plenty of time to write. Also, smaller class sizes so teachers can spend more time getting to know their students. #OklaEd
A5 This question is a trick Q in some regards because the tool is just a paperweight unless it is in the hands of someone equipped with the ability to wield it #oklaed
Students in ELA classes also need authentic (real) audiences and opportunities to be published, recognized, and make a difference outside the school setting. #oklaed
A5: With the world of technology at our fingertips? There is no end to the possibilities. Resources are everywhere, not wheels to reinvent but brilliant ideas to tweak so they fit what you are doing! #oklaed
A5) I would need to travel extensively with students to New York, Santa Fe, Seattle, San Francisco, and Orlando. That would be pretty authentic! So I guess I need a traveling budget.😁 #oklaed
A5) I would need to travel extensively with students to New York, Santa Fe, Seattle, San Francisco, and Orlando. That would be pretty authentic! So I guess I need a traveling budget.😁 #oklaed
5)A good PLN online and in your school. I like to knock ideas around with other people and they always have ways to tweak any activity to make it better. #oklaed
A6 - Time to get a new job? 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
But seriously, if it is too hard to do what is best for students, why would anyone still teach? It’s not like the money keeps people in it... #oklaed
A5) it depends on what you are teaching, it might be technology, a volunteer to help teach new tech, books for authentic literature activities, manipulative, art supplies, STEM supplies, more planning time, I could keep going. 😉 #oklaed
A6: I've never heard anyone say that but if I did I would remind them that if you want the learning to stick w/them you have to show the Ss why they need to know it... make it real. Authentic. #oklaed
A4A Laziness and getting too comfy in a routine. It’s easy to do the same thing instead of keeping lessons relevant. For my class, tech is ALWAYS changing so I have to stay informed in order to keep my students informed. #OklaEd
A6: Anything worth doing well is worth the hard work it takes to get there. If you don't want to invest time in what you do, maybe it's time to look to something new. #oklaed
A6 I would probably just walk away, not worth the energy. Lol Teaching is hard in the first place, but coaching a Ss to LEARN is even harder. However if the Ss can relate their learning and efforts to something more than a grade they will try harder. #oklaed
The Art of Teaching requires educators to create the lessons. Authenticity with standards-based lessons are possible by any teacher - and that will turn the average teacher into a great teacher. All it takes is a creative mind and a vision. A visionary mind-set. #oklaed
A6: Too hard, YES! You are right...not worth it? Authentic Learning is 100% about relationships and making connections. Maybe its time for you to leave the profession. #oklaed
#OklaEd A5: local / school newspapers, websites such as Big History, YouTube, various ethics sites, webpages of people like Steve Wyborney, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Dallas Koehn...
A6) The Art of Teaching requires educators to create the lessons. Authenticity with standards-based lessons are possible by any teacher - and that will turn the average teacher into a great teacher. All it takes is a creative mind and a vision. A visionary mind-set. #oklaed
A6) I don’t believe my school asks me to do anything that’s too hard. My school believes in preparing students for the future, so it’s worth EVERYTHING to our students and can’t be considered trouble. Change is hard, so rise to the challenge. #oklaed
A6) I don’t believe my school asks me to do anything that’s too hard. My school believes in preparing students for the future, so it’s worth EVERYTHING to our students and can’t be considered trouble. Change is hard, so rise to the challenge. #oklaed
A7 It makes it REAL and therefore the Ss will have more of an interest to actually listen, learn, question, and possibly investigate the topic more. #oklaed
A7) There’s a fine line. You can try to design lessons and fall on your face if you don’t know your students. Teachers that build relationships have a great feel for the moments that create authenticity. Students stay engaged with Ts that they know love them #oklaed
A7) Without being completely authentic in instruction, the Ss will see through it and not be engaged and then you are just wasting everyone’s time. #oklaed
A7: If it's authentic than I have buy-in and therefore my Ss are more likely to have buy-in. If even I don't believe it my Ss will see right through me and not be engaged. They feed off my enthusiasm and as a result are engaged and excited to learn. #oklaed
#OklaEd A6: Short and to the point - YOU’RE WRONG!!! Ask questions, talk with colleagues, honestly seek to understand learning and decide if you’re going to work to do it!!!
A7 Student who are immersed in an authentic learning environment are more likely to be engaged...the work is of interest, has meaning, and purpose. #oklaed
A7) If you want to see high student engagement, low student discipline, and the results that would impress any parent then develop units that have an impact to something that interest the students or their community. They will rise and meet any expectation - high or low. #oklaed
A7. Authentic instruction is the only way to bring students into the lesson. Very few students or adults care about learning until they see that it is relavent to them. #oklaed
If you believe in Prayer... pray for Moore schools. Once again, they are hit with tragedy. We grieve as a school community and need to love on our Ts in crisis. #OklaEd
A7 Authentic instruction heightens Ss emotional interests. Ss are pulled toward a content area because they are energized, excited, and emotionally engaged by the material. Results in heightened comprehension in Ss!
#OklaEd#SNUed
A7) authentic learning is more engaging and this lets students be responsible for their learning. If I plan a great lesson, stations, model strategies and let students jump in and practice I enjoy teaching more. It’s a win win! #OklaEd
7) student are naturally curious and authentic learning is designed to engage them in a way that is not textbook worksheet ! Authentic lessons=engaged students #oklaed
A8 it isn’t easy or for the faint of heart. You have to build a relationship with them and implement carefully—so they don’t even realize that you’re doing something different until it’s already done. #sneakybutitworks#oklaed
A7 Authentic instruction heightens Ss emotional interests. Ss are pulled toward a content area because they are energized, excited, and emotionally engaged by the material. Results in heightened comprehension in Ss!
#OklaEd#SNUed
A8 Practice! Clearly outline your expectations for them and what they can expect of you. Much of what they may be doing will be open ended and that makes some Ss uncomfortable. Let them know you are still there to guide them on their journey #oklaed
A8 - Just like anything in the classroom, it requires consistency to help train Ss to do school differently. Just like they learned to do worksheets or sit through lectures, they have to be taught to engage in authentic learning. #oklaed
A8 This is exactly it! Make learning safe. Failing (grades) are not allowed. You messed up? Try it again. I'll stand with you if you need me to, and we'll figure out what you need to succeed. #oklaed
A8) Don't emphasize it as a new way of learning, or teaching. Let it develop in your classroom over time. Start small and build up. Keep your expectations high and let the students fail as they find their way. They will learn and you will lead. #oklaed
A8: You have to build a foundation with them. Small steps that help them prepare for the big event. They will be better engaged if they have some idea of what is expected of them #oklaed
A8 This is exactly it! Make learning safe. Failing (grades) are not allowed. You messed up? Try it again. I'll stand with you if you need me to, and we'll figure out what you need to succeed. #oklaed
A8 with my Kinders it’s easy because they come to school as curious explorers! When I taught 3rd grade I had to help them find the confidence to try new things, experiment, and explore ideas. School shouldn’t be the place creativity goes to die! #oklaed
A8 trust the data. S’s curiosity should remain high and does when we are authentic in the way we teach them. When they don’t care we should change something. #oklaed
