Hi Erica - Glad you made it! Question 1 coming up in a moment! :)
Woot! Stoked for upcoming halloweens parade at school! Nathan 4th grade NorCal
Gotta love the Halloween parades! :) We have ours next Monday too!
Q1: What are you required to teach about civics/government in your school/district?
Oh! It is so hard leaving them! I hope your return was smooth. My Monday was great. First ‘normal’ day in a while.
A1: There are a few standards from the state, but folks feel very pressured to put time into math and reading.
we are doing our best to keep our Halloween costumes for 4th grade teachers a secret.
Oh, I’m glad he did wonderful - makes it just that much easier to leave him there. Good luck on Wednesday!
I’m looking forward the answers to this one.
we are the only school out of 17 who does it. We love it! Some of my SS grandparents remember doing it as a student
We need ideas for our team - You MUST share ….DM me! :) https://t.co/EJISa9CCqK

parents line the streets and block traffic and we march around the neighborhoods
A1: We introduce the 3 branches of Government.
A1: umm im sure something is recorded somewhere but nothing is mandatory unless it's your grade level curriculum
We parade around the school & parents are lined up in the school area! Neighborhood walk way better!
we have been play-doh, Rock Paper Scissors, TMNT, last year was Mario kart racing, this year Lego people
Wow! You are some serious costumers!
3/4 of families show up line streets & most parents dressed up so funny 2watch students find their parents dressed up
That’s great! How fun for the kids - no wonder the grandparents remember it!
first question 2new admin this year was r we keeping Halloween parade, if u say no I need a transfer form
So brave! The kids much absolutely LOVE it!
We used to do Spooky Story Night- kids write stories, come in pm dressed in costume to read them-I still have 50s skirt and skates!
Okay - I can SO picture that!!! You’d make a cute sock hopper (is that what they called them)?
love the activities... Would skip the about candidates... Rural population, major opposing family views
Seriously trying to stay away from that myself - the kids have been talking amongst themselves. INTERESTING!
One more Oct. thing- We made minions out of toilet paper rolls, then dressed THEM in costumes and wrote stories! LOVE IT!
I always get a good perspective from here: Election: Teaching Tolerance - Diversity, Equity and Justice https://t.co/gSjHENofRs
I ALWAYS forget about CNN Student news. Great site. We have SO much to teach - so little t… https://t.co/3dE72rn5xP
my former school I would have no problem, w/thus district @ population I can't..
Hi Erica - hope your conferences went well. Mine are on Wednesday night & Friday afternoon (then next week).
, This looks interesting, I may send home as extra for those that have internet. iCivics game https://t.co/bIJ7oK4Egg
WHO is making these FAB costumes? Or do you each make your own?
i make them... Degree and credential in art
I had my class last year believing my first job was as Mario on the original show
I think you should box up your old costumes & pass them along to us!!! :)
I may cherry pick from here. Some of the 60 sec resources match our guided reading books PBS Election https://t.co/ZnfUEiutXH
2 Nights &a half day. Last year it was 1 night and half day-we didn’t have any minutes in-between.Went from 6-8:30 Crazy
I may do some of these during morning meeting together. Background knowledge. Election Printables | https://t.co/JdLAT7Uv6g
We write our own presidential speeches & vote 1person per group then they have debate and we pick from final two. Do this every yr
We did one evening 4-7:30 of student led conferences and it was fabulous! I talked with every parent!
our conferences are b4 report cards this year so idk...and we only get 2.5 hours to do 30
We are thinking of S led with Google slides this year.
We do a lot of Kid President activities and videos, even have a kid president club in spring
So the Students are in on the conferences. Have done that sporadically w/ good results.
Would love to hear how you weave content into your morning meeting.
Crash course videos go fast, but are great for T to watch before T leads a discussion Election Basics https://t.co/p9bKwzQxmu
Can you hear me chuckling - made my night! lol
Use as a digital portfolio and let sets do the work! https://t.co/CAXgkuViyf

That is CRAZy! You have 30 students? Yikes.
I have SS fill out letter & form 2parents 2tell what I'm going 2say they R always right
yes and 30 is my smallest class ever, last year 34, at some point I had 36 briefly
Key for me is to use elect to teach about democracy. Today's GR book was about the Constitution Ss: balance of power was "cool!"
I think when we can really connect the Ss to what’s happening around them the learning clicks! And it’s fun!
I have 22- my smallest class in MANY years-I know their strengths, weaknesses, emotions, worries=know how to help!
What? 30 is your smallest class! Amazing! It’s been years since I’ve had that size and I don’t miss it! … https://t.co/vNMtw6vgJ1

Ss need social skill practice. Don't ask someone's age, who they will vote for--but you can ask ?s. It's a skill we can model.
last year I felt like crowd controls with 34 and 11 were on an IEP and 6 -504s
. You would know that anyway because that’s the kind of teacher you are! https://t.co/ld8Prc7pXa

Nancy-how sweet. I know you are the same. Connections are the essence of life!
That is just unbelievable! Wow! I just think that is not right for the kids.
no it wasn't, smallest class this year and by far my best at this school been gr8 except the 7 day strike
Looking for a 4th grade class from Canada to with Ss from MA. (Eastern Time) in a couple weeks
That is so cool! Thanks for sharing!
