#miched Archive
The #michED chat is a grassroots effort dedicated to giving teachers, students, and parents across Michigan a bigger voice in the conversation about education in our state. We welcome all voices through a variety of projects, media, and social networking. We’re trying to address educational issues through apolitical conversation, spreading ideas and stories of success from Michigan classrooms across the state, and helping teachers and students regain the courage to connect and demonstrate that schools in Michigan are creating amazing opportunities for learning. We want the face and voice of education in Michigan to be a mural of shared experiences and positive examples of connected learning.

Hi! My name is Lauren Murphy. I teach 3rd grade at Bridgman Elementary. This is my first year teaching.
A1: I'm not really sure other than mandate that they are assigned a mentor to check in with...IMO its not adequate support

A1: Our local ISD offers New Teacher Academy but not in their school and many don't have time after a long day to attend

Welcome to Send us some of that cold air if you have any up there! :)
Q1-
At New Buffalo we have a very small staff. Love it! I also have a mentor that I work with almost daily.
Kellie from Jerome, Adrian IC.
Time - always the most precious resource.
A1: Our district Mentor program is pretty solid but sub issues this year have hampered peer meetings
A1: We have mentors and mentees. Also, our ISD often offers PD for early teachers.
Q1 - What systems does your district have in place to support new teachers? (in case you missed it in the stream) -
A1 We are fortunate to have instructional coaches, a formal mentor system, and a fully aligned/articulated curriculum
Welcome back to Glad you could join us!
Your 2nd chat tip: Use the Smore to think about the questions. Please note, the Qs are NOT timed! https://t.co/QFhVAdBz0E

Hello everyone! This is my 1st Twitter chat and I am super excited to chat with all of you!!!
A1 : beyond mentoring we had POETS meetings (put off everything till Sunday) occasionally - helped new Ts and old share
A1: not much. HR forms, security badge and activating email. Everything else is dependent on bldg principals
YES especially for new teachers that need time with District norms, curriculum etc
A1: Have had two districts. 1st had structured mentoring program w/ curriculum. 2nd was less structured
Howdy ! Andrew from Boulder. I teach math and programming.
NTA and the ladies who run it are awesome! Great way to meet local teachers. https://t.co/ib4Gj1p3zp
A1: we offer NTA run by two amazing ladies :)
37 degrees on the shore of Lake Superior
A1: When I started I was given a one day orientation on paperwork and then shown my roster of 35. That was my intro to teaching.
A1 we have a new teacher club run by they meet at a local restaurant
1. At LMS, new teachers are assigned mentors for guidance but the whole staff is always willing to help the newbies.
We have a mentor program and are supposed to meet with a with them once a month to discuss any questions we might have.
A1: We have informal mentorships, but nothing district wide. That's something I'm eager to tackle for next year!
Yeah, that was how many of us started, but the evaluation process was different too: Little test pressure
My 2nd district experience was tainted, tho... I'm a vet teacher who started mid-second semester.
Snow day yesterday up and down the front range.
Nice to know it's been meaningful - just hearing other voices can be so welcome!
A1: nothing, but used to have a wonderful program that lasted 3 yrs & included valuable PD for all new K-12 tchrs in district. Cut.
. new teacher labs during the day
A1 we are not a district, but are organizing a hub of resources to address learner variability, wealth of info for new teachers
at shipley, we just began a year one PD program which is run by experienced teachers-it has been well received ,
helped with the good and interesting "things" that happen teaching
A1 Every new T is assigned a mentor, the ISD offers 4 PD days for both.
A1: Instructional Coaches! Mentors, New teacher day(I was told today how bad that was).
A1: I have a mentor teacher, ,who is a great help at BSPS.
A1: program for new T's w/weekly webinars & blogs https://t.co/IiHCDOq2Tl based on iNACOL standards for online teaching.
A1 Our district has a "mentoring program". Assigned mentor and some release time for collaboration.
That sound cool, Would love to hear more about how it works: We need to have more clubs like that
I think this is quite common
A1- our system has a strong program, teachers new to teaching are assigned a consulting teacher to work with them
A1. Every newbie is assigned a mentor for the first couple years.
. or might be able to give more detail of new Tch meetings for Lots of good stuff is shared!
This sounds like something we could use. Just doesn't sound familiar. Those first years are crazy but good
A1: My director also does a great job of assessing new Ts w/ skills assessment right away & PD right off the bat!
A1: has a new teacher academy for all the new teachers in the county
At Dream we are encouraged to shadow veterans and get ideas from them
A1: I want to change new teacher orientation to include veteran teachers to answer FAQs and other concerns.
So good to have you here with Send some of that cold weather our way please!
A1: mentor relationships with all new staff to our school for a semester. ...regardless of teaching experience unfortunately
Hope you get a chance to expand on this during the chat - interested in the details
I liked my 1st experience as a new T. 2 yr program. 1st: meetings & curriculum. 2nd: fewer meetings & working on portfolio
A1- for teachers new to our system but not to teaching they can have a teacher in the building trained as a mentor support them
It should: New teachers need more time with teachers to see what might arise and ask questions
My main support is my mentor. She is phenomenal and answers my never-ending questions!
yes & super unfortunate, esp if you are a BRAND new T. Need to feel supported & connected not out of the loop!
often district personnel presenting on timely staff requested topics
Sorry, just dropping in from Maryland.....
Yes please!!! Veteran teachers have so much to share and teach others
A1 Our Asst Superintendent of HR puts together a great two day orientation program
Attending the new teacher academy was one engagement our director [strongly] encouraged me to participate in.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get myself a student teacher. 15 years in and I've never had the pleasure. It's time.
and find time during the year for new teachers to get in veteran teachers classes and observe in action
A1 Introduce new teachers to twitter chat. They will learn more here than traditional PD. Also, a quality mentor to "wing" them.
Bob you are always welcome: Love your insights
A1: Best thing we do is take them into classes for Action Walks/peer observations. They said it's "The best training they've had".
Glad you are joining Hope all is well with you!
My Name is Alex Faley. This is my 2nd yr teaching HS English (9th, 11th, and 12th) at River Valley and
in addition to the PD for year 1 folks, each newbie is assigned a mentor to help them navigate the new community
happy to be following along this week's chat.
Q2 What systems of support exist for new Ts outside their building / district - where should a young T go struggling for support?
Would be nice to have built in time for new teachers: should be art of PLC process too
Yes!! So important to see models for both parties and to grow from targeted feedback https://t.co/fuJhaQet12
and find time during the year for new teachers to get in veteran teachers classes and observe in action
Wish more districts would support this, the learning opportunity is endless!
Great to see another 4th grade teacher tonight AND a northern one to boot!:)
Mike from Chelsea....a few minutes late.
A1 grade level mentors, new T orientation, hopefully a friendly welcoming environment
Walk throughs can be great for all! Love seeing colleagues in action. New ideas and perspective on others' classes.
I really wish that pre-service tchrs got a 4-yr apprenticeship vs a 3-5 month placement. That really needs to be fixed.
I like the idea of action walks https://t.co/M945Y1MgQA
A1: Best thing we do is take them into classes for Action Walks/peer observations. They said it's "The best training they've had".
Getting a student teacher can be tricky. Often only shared with select few in a bldg. Contact the universities?
is the new teacher academy internal to your disctrict?
A1: We have yearly meeting before school starts, and assigned mentors-awesome if mentor/mentor click, but not always the case
Really??! I'll take you this year if you want. Although, pretty sure you're a vet now. :)
A2: Should goto a PLN network New teacher chat, etc but might be scary since it is so public
is a great resource for our new teachers I am sure he would share and/or answer questions
Yes, nothing better than watching others teach. Especially, exemplary instructors. https://t.co/FsKrXDWHKd
Walk throughs can be great for all! Love seeing colleagues in action. New ideas and perspective on others' classes.
A2: def Twitter! If good relationship w/mentor or bldg principal. Fed find a T or 2 to connect with & be your "go to"
A1: My school has a great mentor program, probationary teacher meetings, and a supportive staff.
Love that your sharing your experience in John!
Our school just started this. We're hoping it guides our PD decisions for the Spring.
What's a new teacher lab?
A2: Subject area organizations and social media can both be great resources.
We all need to breathe, Need for a more flexible schedule so it can happen> Sub issues make it very hard
Thanks for the kind words my friend! Thankful to have a strong network of educators for support
welcome to . He was my son's elem principal and travelling companion on trip to Europe
A2 Twitter!, also seek out opportunities with their association and/or ISD..critical to build a network
ICs make all the difference for young T's in our district
would love this. Get them in the classroom more and time there is MORE purposeful. Content is easier part of our job
Welcome to Glad you are joining us!
I longer apprenticeship would certainly help the new teacher attrition
A2: IA has AEAs for tons of support (). has been amazing. Prof. orgs are tops! https://t.co/9T3xOjv5ZY
Q2 What systems of support exist for new Ts outside their building / district - where should a young T go struggling for support?
Literary characters are like us: complex and morally gray. Why that's important for the classroom: https://t.co/hnM2uTzBxS
A2: EVERY new or young teacher should attend a local for great conversation in a casual setting about teaching from veterans
Hi Margaret! The NTA takes place at our local RESA.
Chat tip #3 - Dont' forget the hashtag! for all answers during chat and while you're sharing during the week.
A2 I found a great resource too
A2 - If you're district will send you, a statewide conference can be a great place to create new connections or check out an
Any college math faculty should contact to place a student teacher. You want in on her classroom!
I agree. I'm not sure why we don't do it here in the US... maybe $? But what cost the huge attrition?
A2: is a great place to start for support & resources. Find a local conference (edcamp maybe) and attend. Make connections!
A2: New teachers should connect back with some of their fav. professors who are working in the field. They can be a great resource.
edcamp are such an awesome and powerful tool for professional growth
A2 Twitter provides an amazing network for new teachers.
I feel my TAing, STing and about a year of subbing has help me out during my first year of teaching
A2: Twitter, PLNs, each new T our school tied into a prof. support network besides a mentor for instruct or other areas to focus on
. Our office will have new teachers work with new teachers - observing/dialoguing - to build their PLN
We have , our counties Regional Education Service Agency. Great support!
A1:need to get serious about mentorship as priority in K-12 schools. I know WE are, but need Ldrshp in respective dist on board.
A2 ISD offers PD throughout the yr. Wish they could also offer a mentor.
A2: In my first year of teaching I went to many of the PD opps at my ISD, and spent much time on twitter for resources
Would new teachers feel comfortable reaching out for help on twitter I just faked it till I made it Hid in my room to figure it out
A2: NTA is an awesome system of support for new teachers in the county! Great place to network!
Conferences rock! Joined my local part of NCTE & was able to meet TONS of great ppl. Served on board w/ last NTOY
A2 - One thing... One good thing. One good, strategically-chosen PLN. No more. New Teachers need to not work too many hours.
A2: I also support lead T models & hybrid roles to help support new Ts
A2: In addition to NTA, I always like going to subject area conferences to get new ideas and rejuvenated!
Support makes all the difference
A2- our system has a robust teacher support system for new and struggling teachers (and admin) as part of our growth system
A2- TWITTER, friends and professors from your education college courses (best resources), professional development
Here's Q2 . Remember use both and https://t.co/6ywDUkbYT4
A2 - If you're district will send you, a statewide conference can be a great place to create new connections or check out an
social media was not the vernacular then
Hi everyone Carolyn from Grand Rapids jumping in a little late
A2 I wish the ease of growing a was around when I started 15 years ago. Use , podcasts, blogs etc...
A2: in my 2nd year of teaching i'm finding more resources for my content area, as well as working with advanced placement teachers
Amen! https://t.co/Z6CVxNtyYN
A1:need to get serious about mentorship as priority in K-12 schools. I know WE are, but need Ldrshp in respective dist on board.
A2: Might it be we start New teachers on a reduced schedule to build time for them to connect and find feet?
The power of has no limits, even in CO
I think this is critical for feedback on what prepared them and lacking info on university preparation. https://t.co/MU5WFqOVXD
A2: New teachers should connect back with some of their fav. professors who are working in the field. They can be a great resource.
It's also a good idea to join a professional organization like to get more ideas from like minded folks around the state.
My name is Mitchell Burdick and this is my first year teaching at Dream Academy in Benton Harbor. I teach Geom. and Trig.
Cheers to Cresta! Mentorship and guidance is so important. Not sure if we should ever fully drop
Ditto so different now than 15 years ago
now that is something the state could put $ into
Wow! I never thought of this as an option- proves we need to get creative in our supports https://t.co/p5twfbB24Q
A2: Might it be we start New teachers on a reduced schedule to build time for them to connect and find feet?
2 yr old is down, have to put baby in bed. Hope to be back! Really looking for new T ideas tonight.
Miller College used to host an Alumni Share night for their seniors to hear what the recent grads are facing.
I think it would depend on their mentor. If there were active on SM it might make it easier.
A2: informal support here in chats. Also, need to make sure veterans are comfortable to reach out. Ldrshp is critical here to guide
First year teachers are assigned a mentor teacher and receive release time each month to meet and collaborate
Is that feasible? Love the idea, but doesn't that cut down on teaching power?
Twitter chat tip #4 - Questions are tweeted out by moderator -"Q" & corresponding number. Respond using "A" & corresponding number
Can you provide some details? Would be helpful for the group -
A2: Social Media is a great resource for networking. Another resource for in the classroom evidence based practice is .
Mentoring is key but many times the mentors are great fits
Yes! Attending was an excellent choice my first year. Learned a lot and build relationships https://t.co/rHoSpiOYQe
It's also a good idea to join a professional organization like to get more ideas from like minded folks around the state.
I was a former high school geometry teacher!!
Wow this would be a great way for us to incorp university partners https://t.co/wW5SrxbTGG
Miller College used to host an Alumni Share night for their seniors to hear what the recent grads are facing.
A2) often the struggles aren't curriculum related. Seeking support from any professional who needs balance and drive is helpful
A2 As a new T, district provided support may not address their needs, search out other areas of support. Soc media makes this easy
Gaahh. I'm like 4 minutes behind in this chat from the side convos. Dear let me catch up.
If done right anything is feasible Doctors sort of do it ....
isn't it that way every week ?
Q3 coming soon - fire hydrant in full effect tonight!
or the co-teaching model that has discussed! I really like that & we have done versions
I had a great mentor . If she didn't have the answers, she helped me find a resource or answer. Before SM.
Trying to pair up new teachers with model teachers in a PLC and in course alike teams and building PLC structures and opportunities
Many of our new Ts are new to & social media resources- can anyone give any specific most follows https://t.co/rmLR8TagvW
A2 As a new T, district provided support may not address their needs, search out other areas of support. Soc media makes this easy
A2: Great PD workshops exist in summer and midyear learned more from and CKH than any college course
My student teachers are some of my favorite people in the world!
I wish I could have had more release time to see other teachers in action when I was new
term limits = short term politicians = short term thinking
Built in weekly PLC grade level time helps new teachers in my district.
A2- I was a member of ASCD and went to their Annual Conference in Chicago. Made contacts and found resources to offer support.
I fully support the idea, don't get me wrong. Love it, in fact. Just hard to imagine. Some already understaffed
Inspiring leader you are lucky!
I'm not familiar with . Thanks for sharing and will for sure check it out.
They are in the right place - just continue to follow the feed for lots of great ideas and educators
Released time for teachers is so key not just for collaboration but for observing other classes too ,
A2: The NTA has been a great help so far. My school strongly encouraged it! I like the conferences idea too.
A2: PLNs, SM, other new Ts-in building or district. It's easier to learn to navigate together
A2 conf. always good as well
A2: I like to use the facebook group Teacher Helpline (part of ) to get support and share stories
Q3 - How do we make new teachers feel comfortable asking for help?
A2: New teachers need time to observe as many teachers teach as possible to see all the different styles
I could not agree more. I learned the most from my colleagues across the hall https://t.co/HGNrSIL6I3
Released time for teachers is so key not just for collaboration but for observing other classes too ,
we have a pool of consulting teachers who apply & are selected, they r master teachers who spend 5 years in the role
I like your thinking on this.
thank you. hope to get more insights tonight. I believe I've done some chats sometime last year during my student teaching
My must follows are only for math.
A2:
Subject area conferences are amazing, especially state wide conferences.
A2: Data shows that new Tchrs need help with the thing that causes most to leave - behavior mgmt. Much more support in that facet.
A3: We make new teachers comfortable asking for help by asking for help ourselves! It's all about modelling.
. 😉😊 you two are so amazing!
A3: Trust: It is all about building a trusting environment where staff feel comfortable
A3: We model for Ss. Experienced Ts should model for newer ones. Ask questions. Keep learning.
A3 lead by example. See what they are good at and ask them about it open the door for back and forth.
A3: Give them permission to try and fail a few times. We learn from our errors and in the era of high stakes evals. this seems lost.
that's what I ended up doing when I was a new ts. But even now it would be nice to still see others
perhaps remember that we're all always "new" teachers, & that we should always model our curiosity & ingorance
New teachers also need to be treated with respect. They have energy and new ideas that can move schools forward.
A3: easy. give them time to process and ask!
A3: Give plenty of opps for feedback, collaboration where Qs can come out & model this!
Hey, that’s what I was going to say! :) https://t.co/2MLW6Akxv4
A3: We make new teachers comfortable asking for help by asking for help ourselves! It's all about modelling.
love not just observing one T but a series of Ts. Cant see ourselves in the 1st good T we observe https://t.co/A7Zw36xFYV
A2: New teachers need time to observe as many teachers teach as possible to see all the different styles
A3: new T's need to find someone to trust, connect with, and help them find their voice-mentor or otherwise.
BEst way to start is to use a Twitter app like so you can follow hashtag. Then begin following people in chat.
A3: New teachers need to know they are not expected to be experts, give them freedom to fail and ask for help
A3 All new hires need to be welcomed and nurtured as if your job/mission depends upon it - it is our duty help them thrive
A3: impt to check in weekly, ask how things are, pass along tidbits & tips.
A3 Modeling goes long way to support new Ts. Share experiences u kno they may be afraid to broach https://t.co/cEtGEpooXD
Q3 - How do we make new teachers feel comfortable asking for help?
A3: Be present & start by asking them their needs. Let them know you are willing & supportive from start. A welcome gift helps too!
A3 - Don't wait for them to ask. "Hey, can I come in and check out your lesson today on my prep? What do you want me to look for?"
Freedom to fail and room to grow https://t.co/eCj9Y13Hhl
A3: New teachers need to know they are not expected to be experts, give them freedom to fail and ask for help
A2: support = look around & seek 3 pros. Lean & Learn. Get 1 in bldng if poss. Ppl want to mentor. 15 yrs in & I lean on mentors
is a great place to be connected to some amazing educators in Michigan
A3: Asking for help means you know you want help. Visiting other teachers classes lets me know there is still room to grow
Amy Coleman, River Valley Elementary, 3rd year teaching but first at RV, Physical Education and Music
Absolutely. And more understanding of different backgrounds https://t.co/DEsHlEU7Nk
A2: Data shows that new Tchrs need help with the thing that causes most to leave - behavior mgmt. Much more support in that facet.
A3: my mentor was awesome at checking if I remembered how to do report cards online right before conf. It's the little things
This is a great reminder. Need master Ts for practice, new Ts for enthusiasm and reenergizing system https://t.co/nnYzOHVSHM
New teachers also need to be treated with respect. They have energy and new ideas that can move schools forward.
I couldn't agree more Dave. All of the math Educators at GV gave me respect and wanted me to try new things in my classroom
That is critical Todd. We have to make sure our fellow teachers criticize the new teacher for innovation. https://t.co/jt1KJ8sQRP
A3: New teachers need to know they are not expected to be experts, give them freedom to fail and ask for help
A3 model asking for help as veteran teachers -still lots to learn years later in this profession
A3: It's essential for coaches & mentors of new T's to create an environment of trust, understanding, encouragement, and growth
A3: Ask them for help first. Show that you are equals now. New teachers need confidence inside &outside of class
A3- trust is so key, you need to build a culture where collective inquiry is the practice, open practices and discussions
A3 - Make teachers visiting each other's classrooms during instruction seem normal... Because darn it. It should be.
Love this! https://t.co/YobKpPWIOo
we have a pool of consulting teachers who apply & are selected, they r master teachers who spend 5 years in the role
A3: Acknowledge that new t's have something to share and value their insight. Establish them as equals in the hierarchy.
can't agree more on this one. Teachers need to see teachers outside of their discipline too ,
A3 Tell your best fail story. Shows honesty and vulnerability.
Must make it clear that failing isn't a kiss of death if they learn and grow from it. https://t.co/wLDTTVpty2
A3- trust is so key, you need to build a culture where collective inquiry is the practice, open practices and discussions
call that COL too... So critical
Yes! Great Michelle. Especially as master teacher or teacher leader. Still learn from colleagues.
Nice to hear others express that new teachers do not need to be experts. https://t.co/bevZInzzMC
A3: New teachers need to know they are not expected to be experts, give them freedom to fail and ask for help
Here's Q3. This would be great to hear how Ts have made you feel comfortable asking for help https://t.co/emRnP1SBy8
Q3 - How do we make new teachers feel comfortable asking for help?
A3: Find out what their strength is and ask them for help. Let them know they are valued already!
A3: Communication, smile, eat in the teacher's lounge?
A3 a new T needs to be allowed to do, not told what to do...kinda like our Ss. Support them, but let em go. To many mother hens.
Personal growth for me that evolves everyday is communication w/parents.Sharing info & keeping them in loop. Work on it daily still
A3 Explicitly saying, "I want to help you and I don't care what the question is." Then checking in on the regular.
A3:
Just having someone take the time to offer help is great, and taking the time to answer questions.
A3- Creating a fun and stress free environment to work in. Being comfortable around someone is the first step. Modeling.
Exactly Build a Culture of Learning in your school goes a ling way toward mentoring https://t.co/wd8opeWwy2
call that COL too... So critical
ditto Sarah... this is a good model
,
tip #5 - Don't worry that you can't keep up with chat!! It's moving fast. Respond as you can. Side convos are encouraged.
Amen! The teacher's lounge is a place to grow relationships!
I agree, but even a little fail for a new T is terrifying, it already feels like you don't know what you're doing!
A3: Remind us that everyone has been a new teacher. :) It was tough being the ONLY new teacher at LMS last year.
Wow! Just wow! Simple yet profound- our new Ts need to be recognized for all that they have to add https://t.co/752pXSh04s
A3: Find out what their strength is and ask them for help. Let them know they are valued already!
and it is flying tonight this old pro can't keep up
sharing, learning from, and welcoming failure is so key!
Welcome to Glad you are stopping by!
A1: we have a mentor teacher system, I am lucky to have mine in my collaboration group as well so we meet weekly
A3: a healthy culture with supportive staff (and great mentor) will make any teacher feel comfortable asking for help.
A3: Offering Twitter Chats and other avenues for new teachers to receive help and advice from experienced educators.
A3 Mentoring teachers need to make sure they share their struggles,New teachers need to know that we all struggle

A5: Just like with students, it's all about relationship. Always.

A5: Invite them out around town. Go to youth sports, dance, music, art, academic competitions. Buy them a school t-shirt or two!

I tell my students we're always in beta. I need that as a poster above my door, too!
A5: Invite them to school performances/games/out to lunch. Share experiences.
A5: We need to include them from the start. Invite them to events, let them know what is expected, tell them the ins & outs.
A5: what's community mean? can Ts walk around block, shake ppl's hands, learn abt opportunities & challenges?
A5- Being involved. I am super lucky I teach at the school that I grew up at. We are all very encouraging and positive.
A5:
By giving us some background. It's easier to plan for the future when you know what has happened in the past.
A5: praise strengths of new Ts with sincerity. Connection comes with time spent getting to know T as person, not just as T
A5: Since our school is small, we see every staff member every day and have bi-weekly meetings after school.
As silly as it is, give them some school gear. T-shirt, pens, cup, etc. https://t.co/5j8iVhxyOg
A5: Invite them out around town. Go to youth sports, dance, music, art, academic competitions. Buy them a school t-shirt or two!

One of the first things that did when she moved to South Haven was get school spirit gear. It eased the transition.
A5 Critical to welcome new teacher input, dismissing their ideas - because they are new - can leave an indelible impression

A5: Ask kids where the best place to eat is in the area. Go out to those places, you will see families.
A5- Have a sense of ownership 2 what you do & see you are helping 2 "raise" ur community! small towns big hearts!

I really felt like I "belonged" the first time someone gave me my CMS T-Shirt
A5: we do social gatherings through the mentoring group and keep the new t's in the group for 2 years so they can bond. ,
A5: Another item that our charter school did was to walk in the neighborhoods where our students live and talk with their families
could also be the school community - making sure a new T has connections with other buildings in district
A5: Invite to community/school-wide events
My welcome bag is a water bottle and deodorant at the start of the year. Welcome to a non-air conditioned building!
A5: We like to reach out into our community often! Staff here has been great about partnering with local businesses.
A5: invite them to school events-see kids, meet parents, build relationships: Win/win/win
A5: Ts in schools need to be inclusive to all others: Invite ALL to events and socials: Say "we missed you" if not attending
Especially when you offer to buy their first drink
That is perfect! Seriously I'm doing it!
A5: Set expectation that new teachers are teacher-leaders in training. That they will be on the leading edge.

A5: get together! Our teachers have a book club! I found this to be a great way to get to know them!
Great point too often we bury new teachers in information they won't need for a month or two
A5-being told about events, invited to places by others, given school swag, asked to coach, etc
A5: start by shooting new T's a welcome email before they even start-what could feel more welcoming?
