I am very excited to host my first Twitter Chat in 20 minutes!
Welcome to my first on Educational Branding. I am and I am so happy to be your host tonight. https://t.co/DiZjXYaI8a
Hi my name is Julie Nguyen. I teach 2nd grade and I'm from San Jose.
Jamey Instructional Coach
HELLO! My name is Desiree Alexander and I am from Shreveport, LA!
Keith George, Alabama Department of Education
Jill Edwards, Instructional Partner
Hi Jill, Big Tech Coach, Beth, Jamey and Julie!
Hi! 4th grade teacher from PA
A1: Making it easier for other interested educators to find you and your work to promote collaboration.
A1 Something that distinguishes you or your school from others
A1: promoting the positives of your district/school/classroom so others want to follow your example and/or promote you as well
A1b: For schools/districts, it is about making sure your positive message gets out to all stakeholders
A1) was in a meeting today and this idea came up... Wording is important. Alignment to mission crucial.
I agree...I feel it is about promoting positives and distinguishing yourself and your school!
A1:Business of education.
A1) Making yourself and the resources that you create available to the public
Yes. And if you haven't defined your culture it is difficult to answer that question. Makes one page target work important
A2: School Branding aligns to mission/vision; should have well known guidelines. Personal much more relaxed and, well, personal
A2) That's a tough one because personal can conflict with schools. Especially with some deep issues like grades or standards.
A2: school branding is a persona for the educational community. personal is how you fit the school's culture into your teaching
A2: I AGREE!!! Personal is more about branding yourself as an educator and school is about branding your school to the community!
A2 Those previous answers were so good, I am just going to say "What they said!"
A2) Agree with . Your personal branding could be anything and teachers need to be cognizant of that
A2 (still) Teachers MUST make sure that they distinguish between personal and school/district branding!
I agree with that! It takes some real thought about the message you want to put out!
A3: You you don't say it someone else will (if it is negative) or no one will (if it is positive!)
A3 Branding gives a school community a sense of pride in themselves
A3 corrected That should be IF you don't. . .
A3) Sometimes I think they shouldn't... Because it locks them in and a change in admin can cause waves.
A3: builds trust between the outside community and school; students and teachers take pride in their product
A3-b: 's answer - if you don't have great things to say about yourself, no one will.
Interesting viewpoint! What do you all think about this? https://t.co/Bux37X7kYN
A3) Sometimes I think they shouldn't... Because it locks them in and a change in admin can cause waves.
A3) It creates an identity and allows the community to know what the school's values and ideas are. It also creates a common goal
I think as teachers, we need to be flexible and adaptable. Otherwise, you're in the wrong profession
since education is constantly evolving, schools should too. The core message can be the same but leave room for flex
A3. Allows for access globally, connection, collaboration, to know where you stand in comparison to others
A4: Because everyone loves attention!!! Wait, that's not why. . . Because it can build credibility which can open opportunities.
A4 I think it gives you the opportunity to regularly self-check and reflect on your teaching and goals
A4: how will anyone know what's happening in your room if you don't tell them?
A3 branding by educators should be for same purpose. It's a true measure of growth and success
A4-b: Also a great way to brag on students, which is awesome for building relationships.
A4 continued more: https://t.co/J2cZqSsQQu
A4 I think it gives you the opportunity to regularly self-check and reflect on your teaching and goals
A4) I think branding works best for Ts when it expressed their WHY.
A4: I think it is a great way to share your resources and help other educators too (if that is your goal)
A4) It helps keep the inspiration going for themselves and for others
Everything circles back to building relationships! With community, colleagues, everything! https://t.co/ZfKb9nTueu
A4-b: Also a great way to brag on students, which is awesome for building relationships.
A3 No educator or institution is an island, no one stands ALONE in pursuit of Ss holistic growth
that should be the goal of ALL educators. It's our CALL TO ACTION
A4: Helps recognize us as professionals. Sharing work/ideas. Pride in who we are.
A5: Sure. and it's okay because it also serves the purpose of getting resources and ideas to other educators
A5: YES, YES, YES! And never think that bragging about education and learning is a bad thing. https://t.co/AHg4K7er7i
A5 No, branding isn't bragging. It's a way to show your school's uniqueness and share it with everyone.
I understand that, but maybe it is because I've seen such rough admin change.
A5: Dangerous when Ts begin to think this way. It makes Ts close doors.
A5: Maybe education needs a little MORE bragging on the great things happening!!!
If teachers don't want to hear about the success of teachers, their door was closed from the beginning.
And each case is different, but the branding might not be the problem (and I suspect you already know that) https://t.co/MdAZUtLdJ7
I understand that, but maybe it is because I've seen such rough admin change.
Hey symchat colleagues. What did I miss? Brenda Fry, Lansdowne, PA elementary librarian hopping on for 2nd half.
Sorry to cut short, have to go be a dad. Great chat.
Welcome Brenda! A great chat on Educational Branding!
not sure how that is defined.
If it's seen as bragging to showcase something different that wks to betterment of Ss, then let the actions speak
Nothing much, we only solved Education Funding. Hate that you missed it. https://t.co/ieJqW2dNPy

A6: websites, qr codes, social media all get info out quickly and go beyond city limits
A6 An updated, well-maintained school website is a must for good branding
A6-b: creating a hashtag for your program/class/school is a great tool for community participation
And even schools that have great social media often overlook this!!! https://t.co/0aWdYpkG9M
A6 An updated, well-maintained school website is a must for good branding
I have a classroom website and classroom Twitter account. Information is immediate and updated
My district uses , and I use for my program
A5. There will always be negativity from those who have nothing better to offer.
A6: Fbook, Twitter....all are ways to make our world smaller
Yes! I know a person who moved into area who said she didn't pick a school because the website wasn't inviting enough
would you share website address how did you get information out to parents. this would be a good idea for me to work on.
YES! Websites leave a HUGE impression on me!!!! I teach how to create them to share that knowledge!!! https://t.co/C262xAnTi8
Yes! I know a person who moved into area who said she didn't pick a school because the website wasn't inviting enough
A6: New residents are more likely to use technology to research schools before moving to an area.
I use Weebly to create websites. There is also Wix. And Google Sites and more... https://t.co/Qj2SJ3UTSi

A7b: Superintendent flips out because there were "hundreds of negative comments" (actually a couple of dozen)
A8: Also apps like photostory, animato, Pic Collage....gives a quick visual to community...
A7c: We had to point out the success of "Hundreds of people" interacting with what we were doing!
A6. The same as it is 4 Ss. THE BRIDGE BETWEEN WORLDS. It serves to dispel ignorance/initiate discourse.
A8: Weebly, Symbaloo, VistaPrint, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest
I made my class website on weebly. Parents, students, and other teachers are welcome to view & use it https://t.co/p7ncoOfZvR

A8: There is this thing called "Twitter", its kinda popular and you can learn a lot from it. . .
OK, , spill the beans, what web platform are you using?
A9: I struggle with an actual brand. Do I need a classroom motto? I have an overall philosophy that permeates my teaching
I feel your philosophy becomes your motto! (just shorter)
https://t.co/0VTtyOjAKb
A9: I struggle with an actual brand. Do I need a classroom motto? I have an overall philosophy that permeates my teaching
A9-b: and I relay that to my students, parents, and anyone who will listen. What constitutes an actual brand for your classroom?
Thinking I might have to cahnge Twitter handle- Just got followed by a "Weight Loss Expert" Hmmmm
Your logo, motto, website, social media presence, materials you share... https://t.co/gkTEmlPwAY
A9-b: and I relay that to my students, parents, and anyone who will listen. What constitutes an actual brand for your classroom?
I let my actions and the results of them speak for themselves. Like the =sign, it goes both ways without end
That is what I was just going to ask. Your teaching day in and day out becomes your brand, correct? https://t.co/7cuZ096enx
