Join #ICEilchat for the last Thursday of the month at 8pm CST as we discuss topics on ed tech, collaboration, building a PLN, professional learning and so much more!
I’ve been involved in education as a teacher, coach, speaker and consultant for 20 years. Having lived in many places, I can say the the Chicago area is the best! #ICEilchat
Hi, all! I'm Rushton, a former high school teacher of Japanese language, a former principal, and a guy who now runs an educational nonprofit, @nextvista. #5DTC#ICEilchat
I'm excited about sharing ideas over the coming weeks on ways to be a better teacher! A big thanks to @ice_il and @participate for making this happen! #ICEilchat
The #5DTC hashtag I sometimes include, BTW, is for the Five-Day Teacher Challenge, a free shindig I ran last year that over 2000 people in 40 countries signed up to join. Find and use it at: https://t.co/LtgZ1o22YK#ICEilchat
I'm here, I'm here! We are moving in 19 days and have spent the day packing and moving furniture, but I'm taking a break to join in the chat tonight! #iceilchat
After attending the ISTE conference last month, I left with a new excitement for the classroom. This book study seemed like a great place to begin preparing for the fall! #ICEilchat
I'm the new curriculum coordinator for 21st learning in Freeport, Illinois! Excited to think about how rapport with students relates to fostering inquiry and 21st century skills! #pretzelpride#iceilchat
A1: I signed up for the drawing for a free copy of "Making Your Teaching Special" but stayed because I saw the topics of the book as being incredibly relevant to 21st century teaching and learning. #ICEilchat
A2: My students and I come from very different backgrounds. I want to find new ways to connect with them, their families, increase involvement in the school community (both with myself and my students), and provide the best possible learning envrionment. #ICEilchat
A2: Yes, my classroom is starting our 2nd year with 1:1 Chromebook. I need to use this technology well so am looking at ways to change assignments and assessment. #ICEilchat
A2: I have been looking for new ways to support Ts, esp rookies. This book would be a great addition to our current program, for Ts of all ages! #iceilchat
A3: When I began truly understanding that we all walk in the door each day with different experiences. Sometimes it isn't about the lesson from a book, but it is about listening and hearing. #ICEilchat
A3: I taught 4th grade for 7 years. My first year, I started a collaborative project with a first-year 2nd grade teacher. She changed grade levels a few times but we kept the collaboration up for 6 years. That choice 7 years ago changed the direction of my teaching! #ICEilchat
Yay! Debbie, this is wonderful news! Welcome to the wonderful world of Twitter chats! I'd love to welcome you to #CollaborativePD this Wednesday night at 8pm ET as well (30 min; 4 Qs)! Lots of great people--we'd love to have you! #ICEilchat#CelebrateDebbie#1stchat
It was an awesome challenge to find projects to do with fourth graders and second graders, then first graders, then kindergarteners, but we both learned so much as the students learned from each other! #ICEilchat
Q4: providing Ss with choice about their learning - flexible for Ss to get the learning and to demonstrate their learning, more formative assessment #ICEilchat
I learned that a school in South Africa I've admired for years has all teachers take a photography class to better share the moments of learning. So cool! As a wannabe photographer (https://t.co/gMOA9UW1Uo) (#shamelessplug), I was impressed. #ICEilchat
Q4: I, too, feel I am becoming more flexible and trying to think outside of the box. Allowing my students a voice in classroom decisions and their education is so important. I am moving to a more student centered approach. #ICEilchat
A4: I have spent time this summer redesigning some of my curriculum to incorporate more meaningful engineering projects that require students to utilize their content knowledge. #ICEilchat
A4: I just finished reading "Creating Innovators" and it awakened me to power of play to help students discover their passions and find a purpose for their lives. #ICEilchat
I wrote a blog post about it, but the one thing that struck me the most was that it is okay for students to wander as they explore topics of inquiry! https://t.co/85Jql3WicF#ICEilchat
Start by reading the three-page preface, "You Have the Power to Change the World." Then look at the titles of the first 12 chapters, and select one to read.
#ICEilchat
Trevor Mackenzie wrote a wonderful book called Dive into Inquiry (https://t.co/oTgsdol3si) - might be a good one to add to your summer list! #ICEilchat
Thanks Rushton and @mdohn! Excited to follow along in all the learning and sharing over the next 6 weeks with #ICEilchat community! See you all next week!
Sadly, I might not be able to join next week's chat because I'm going to be staffing a teen leadership conference all week! But if I can sneak off for a bit, I will. #ICEilchat
