A1: Learning about #waledchat and attempting my first scheduled tweets. I have been reading responses the past few weeks, after the fact. Eager to participate.
A1: I've really enjoyed the family that has been born out of this chat. I feel like our vulnerability has made us a close group. I hope you all feel the same way. #waledchat
A1: Reflection is critical in my classroom for the Ss, but I often neglect time for my own reflections. This space has given me the time each week to do that! #waledchat
A1: It is so easy to get caught up in the losses of the year. Negativity grows on trees. #waledchat opens us up to our WINs and lets us celebrate the positives in our worlds.
A1: I have really enjoyed the numerous connections I have made with other teachers I probably wouldn't otherwise had made. Taking time to see other's struggles have helped me get through mine. #waledchat
Q1 I have enjoyed the connections that I have made through participating in #waledchat This amazing group has helped me grow so much, and offered support and encouragement along the way! Love this bunch!!!!
A1: Honestly, it asks me to look in at my mishaps/failures/crash n’ burns, and seeing other teachers who go through the same things is refreshing; but I also love that it asks how I overcame those things. #waledchat
A1: This is actually my FIRST #waledchat but when I have time to reflect, I try to accept the mishaps and failures and really enjoy figuring out ways to make things more enjoyable, engaging, and overall beneficial for my Ss. #waledchat
A1: I have loved building relationships that encourage us to share our successes and setbacks with one another, getting new ideas about how to solve them from those who have been there. #waledchat
The best part about #waledchat (besides Phil, himself) is the simple, genuine nature of it. No complex questions or agendas. Just a honest sharing of what's working and what's not.
A1 #waledchat has helped me to find and refine my voice and passion for growth mindset, goal setting and student reflection. I have been able to practice what i preach!
A1 Reflection is how we put our best practices into slow motion We can see things that are working & need tweaking, it allows for adjustments #waledchat
A1 I have only been here once and in that time I witnessed support, kindness, empathy, joy and people who are passionate about education. I also found @MrPStrunk to be a heck of a moderator! #waledchat
A1: When everything is crazy and I'm feeling a bit down it is great to have questions that make me reflect. Reading others thoughts and having so much positive energy. It has been great! #waledchat
A1: it has been awesome reflecting and connecting with a positive group of educators every Thursday! Reflection is important for my growth as an educator. #waledchat
A1: No matter what chat I am in, I find it is so nice to become excited again over my career. I feel that I am part of a group that loves learning and trying new things-I don't always feel that in my own school. And I get to focus on what goes right. #waledchat
The best part about #waledchat (besides Phil, himself) is the simple, genuine nature of it. No complex questions or agendas. Just a honest sharing of what's working and what's not.
Q1- Still pretty new to Twitter & I love the smart, funny, honest, thoughtful folks here. I'm always thinking about something someone said. These are the convos I wish I were having with my co-workers! Or you should all move to NH! It's a balmy 1 degree here! #waledchat
A1: The opportunity to be connected and then being asked to participate in #edusations. I was so nervous and then immediately afterwards I was so proud of myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone & trying something new. Will forever remember it was because of #waledchat
A1 The ability to reflect and grow with all of you has totally changed my practice. I finally got into twitter chats this summer and #waledchat was always such an awesome place to just be positive and hopefull about education!
A1: Lot's of amazing new connections w/ an awesome PLN. Never thought Twitter and these reflection chats would become such a driver in my own classroom teachings...I learn SO MUCH from what all of you dedicated Ts share! #waledchat
Right?! Me too!!! I *NEEDED* it so bad last week, and even today, I had an epic fail at work and the first thing I thought about was sharing with the #waledchat family! HA!
A2 Reflection helps me remember my passions, appreciate the Ss and Ts at Peine Ridge, and keeps me humble- the school is not great because of me, it is great because of the Ss and Staff! #waledchat
A1: Something I have enjoyed over a year of #waledchat is the reflective community. I enjoy seeing everyone celebrate the great things and own up to things that can go better next time.
A1- I’ve enjoyed reflecting on my weeks throughout the year and being able to discuss wins and losses with others. It helps you not feel alone when you feel like you’re doing everything wrong. #waledchat
A1: being able to share with so many educators. Sometimes it’s easy to feel alone in this profession, but these chats are a great way to reflect and be honest. #waledchat
A2: #waledchat Every lesson is a time to reflect. I collect data on what happens in my classroom as well as the school. Data tells a story and also offers many opportunities to reflect on what is working and what isn't.
A2: Like going to a mechanic for a tune-up, reflection helps us consider what has gone well and how can we make changes to continue to grow. #waledchat
A2: Reflection allows us to celebrate the positive and work on our failed efforts to improve for the next class, next day, or next year. It keeps us from getting stuck in an instructional rut and perpetuates the ideal of being a lifelong learner. #waledchat
A2: If you are not looking inward (reflecting) it is near impossible to grow. We need to intentionally assess what works and what needs some help!
#waledchat
A2 #waledchat
Isn’t there a saying, an unexamined life is not worth living.
the act of teaching is so complex, you have to take time to look at what works and what doesn’t to be better every year.
Reflection helps me grow as an educator and more importantly, a human being. No matter what happens, I need to ask: What was my role in it? Should I have acted? Should I have NOT acted? How can I recognize this in the future. It goes beyond the profession. #waledchat
A2 It helps me ask questions about where I have been and where I’m going. It has given me the gift to dig beyond the surface and be more truthful with myself #waledchat
I've missed a lot of them, but #waledchat was one of the first chats I participated in more than once. And even when I didn't participate, I kept a #waledchat column open in TweetDeck!
A2: reflection allows us to examine what we do. If we are not looking at what we do how do we know what is effective and what to do to improve our practice?
#waledchat
A1: Last week was my first week participating in #waledchat. Everyone was reflective, encouraging, and engaged. I love the pace and the excitement that flows from this chat!
A2: Reflection prevents stagnation. Reflection allows me to grow in my skills, emotions, procedures, etc. Reflection allows me to fix things and hone things. #waledchat
A2: Reflection allows us all the ability to step back and see the big picture of what we do. We can then assess its effectiveness and create a plan B if necessary. When we reflect, we grow. #waledchat
Reflection helps me grow as an educator and more importantly, a human being. No matter what happens, I need to ask: What was my role in it? Should I have acted? Should I have NOT acted? How can I recognize this in the future. It goes beyond the profession. #waledchat
A2: too often negatives can weigh us down But reflecting allows me to find positives in what I do and find positives within negative situations. #waledchat
A2: It is like a safety net. Reflection catches me before I fall. Gives me the time I need to analyze what went wrong. I feel safer taking a leap because it is there. #waledchat
A2: Reflection forces me to be better. It’s hard to be honest with myself sometimes, but it is essential! We need to talk about our loses so we can get feedback from the PLN to get better! #waledchat
A2- It is easy in today's fast paced world to go from task to task rushing through each day, moving on the the next thing...reflection gives us the opportunity to analyze, grow, evaluate and make sure our actions align with our priorities and our passions #waledchat
A2: Reflection helps me tweak and enhance my lessons so that I can give my students the best of myself. Reflection helps me adapt and change as my students change and grow. #waledchat
A2 I love the opportunity to stop and really think about the impact that I am having. Forcing myself to look at both the postives and the areas for improvement help me to grow and refine my practice! #waledchat
A2: Ya gotta think about what you do... it’s part of the creative process... what worked, what didn’t, what could be better... to move forward ya gotta look back mindfully... #waledchat
A2: How does anyone grow without reflection and introspection? I'm all about the mindset and how to improve, which reflection has allowed me to do. It helps me focus on what is working and what isn't so that I can make a plan to change, get help, and/or celebrate #waledchat
A2: Reflection allows you to pause in the past in order to appreciate the present and consider the possible outcomes of the future. Without reflection we cannot grow or improve, reflection is what allows us to achieve. #waledchat
Q2- reflection keeps me from making the same dumb mistakes over and over so I have room for the new ones! 😂#waledchat In all seriousness, reflection, and acting on what we learn is absolutely the only way we get better at anything!
#waledchat A2: Reflection lets you improve what is working and rework what is not working. We make so many decisions during the day and are always trying to figure out what we can do to make things better!
Just as we all grow from the feedback we receive from peers, family, admin, we all also grow from reflection, which is really just self-feedback. #waledchat
A2- Reflection helps us see what we are missing and helps us take a look at what we can do to be better. It is a crucial practice and needs to happen on a regular basis. #waledchat
A2: Reflection allows you to pause in the past in order to appreciate the present and consider the possible outcomes of the future. Without reflection we cannot grow or improve, reflection is what allows us to achieve. #waledchat
A2: Reflection encourages me to focus on the strengths I have that make me a great teacher! It also allowing me to focus on #growthmindset and make exciting changes in my classroom to put my students first. #waledchat
A2) Reflection is everything for me. Before I meet with Ts, Ss, or Parents I reflect on how I want the meeting to go and reflect afterwards to see how it matched up and where to go from there. #waledchat
A2. Reflection helps me think about things I need to change, look back at progress, growth, how learning took took place, were the ideas understood? What changes need to be made? Improvements? #waledchat
A2: I can see where I need to improve, not necessarily where I goofed up. Reflection sometimes has a negative connotation, but it shouldn’t be. #waledchat
A2 Reflection is protein for our teaching confidence Reflection is what builds our muscle as teachers We feel stronger after some good honest reflection, we are empowering ourselves which helps our Ss even more #waledchat
A2: often we focus on reflecting on what went wrong & what we can do better. It’s so important to foster a reflection of positives too! Reflecting on positives of your practice and bringing awareness grows you and other Ts close to you! #sharesuccesses#GLOWSandgrows#waledchat
My current favorite quote is "You often hear that experience is the best teacher. But that is only true if you reflect on it and extract its lessons." Reflection is the only way to learn from experiences...both positive and negative. #waledchat
A2 It helps me grow, if I'm honest with myself, by making me stop and think of the whole situation, my reaction, and what I can take, change, and grow from. #waledchat
A3 *What works and doesn't work in your classroom. *How can you drive your own PD. *What are you most fearful of in your profession and how to face it. Just some ideas! #waledchat
A2~
~helps me pause, laugh sometimes at the doozy blunders & appreciate that life is a journey that is built upon connection, humility and serving others w/an open ❤️
#waledchat
Reflection means I'm taking the time to think. Can be hard to do! My favorite place to reflect is in the car on the way home from work. And those moments are when I see things in a new light and experience growth.
#waledchat
A2 - Reflection is integral to growth. This week has been a bit of a stinger as Dara as reflection goes. My pride got hurt and I had to humble myself a bit. But, the sweetness that came from the work was worth it! Had a look in the magnifying mirror, so to speak #waledchat
A2 Reflecting pushes me to really evaluate what I need to work on and what is going well. Taking the time to reflect weekly allows me to adjust course earlier. #waledchat
A3: I need to allow myself time to reflect on being a "new" teacher, despite having taught 6 years in another district. It's a unique situation that I'm still processing daily, especially because I don't have colleagues that teach the same subject. #waledchat
A3: What systems and structures at a classroom or building level that help us to limit the impact of trauma and secondary trauma in our schools. #waledchat
A2: Reflection helps me evaluate what I’ve done, determine next steps, and help make those steps happen. Helps me organize my thoughts as well! #waledchat
@MilnerJodi in the house I went to school with this smart lady in Pleasantville, IA a town of about 1500 and now over 20yrs later we are on#waled hat growing. What an awesome connection for the BDay party #waledchat
A2: Reflection is so important. It is great to be able to go back and see how we can make things better without fear. Focus on growth always. #waledchat
How have you reacted well when a student "didn't get it?" How have you reacted poorly when a student "didn't get it" and what did you learn from that experience? #waledchat
A3: Teaching students to reflect, questions to ask colleagues to spark reflection, building in reflection time into the teaching day, reflecting on school rules - which are necessary, which are not, reflection on culture of school #waledchat
A3: What lesson is a consistent hit for you? What is important to you as an educator? What do you wish you were better at? When are you at your creative best? #waledchat
A3: What should the role of an educator look like?
How can we promote change in our profession?
What should schools look like ten years from now?
How can we empower not only students, but other educators?
#waledchat
A3: How can we better encourage and motivate our students? How can we achieve a better work life balance without waiting for summer vacation? #waledchat
A3- how to create an environment where students can give you thoughtful feedback as well as receive it...looking at favorite successful lessons to distill for why they work well to apply to other lessons... #waledchat
A3- I am currently reading Atomic Habits by @JamesClear so I would say what new habits have you been able to put into place or can you put in place to make you a better educator, a better person, happier, kinder, more productive ? #waledchat
What is a #waledchat birthday without cake?! Special thanks to @khoggardGRT who, when I mentioned I was looking into getting a #waledchat cake, offered to buy an edible top for it! @LBStrunk and I are loving it! And before you ask, yes @KristenSevinsky it is chocolate cake!
Reflect on struggle areas with brutal honest— thoughts like
Behaviors? Where are they coming from? Must I change? can I find PD or support? Organization issues? What do I need for success in this area? Lack of content knowledge? How can I gain it? Mentor me? #waledchat
Q2: Reflection is imperative as an educator. As we reflect we can see what works and what doesn’t. From there we can grow, receive feedback, make changes, and ultimately strive to be our best self which in turn is better for our kids. #waledchat
A3:
What's your why?
Do your beliefs still match what you previously thought entering education?
If you left your job today what would your legacy be?
#waledchat
A3. What are my fears that I need to overcome? What risk would I put on my bucket list? What types of PD would I be interested in learning or teaching? What conferences would I like to try and present PD? #waledchat
A3 How are our reactions instigating situations? Are we modeling the growth mindsets in our children that we want them to see in themselves? How have we connected with our children on any given day? #waledchat
A3: I think assessing vs teaching always needs to be reflected on. also-how do you persuade colleagues to think about something in a different way? #waledchat
A4 I can not name one. I will say I love #waledchat and all of the great people who have given me advice, ideas, and encouragement. #waledchat for the WIN!
#waledchat A3 IMO the greatest reflections of a Tr are when an adult former St thanks you for lessons learned in your class when they were not even 15 years old. YOUR WORDS ARE POWERFUL! They can change lives! #BeenThereDoneThat#AlwaysBelieve
A3- Are we making all of our students feel part of the class? Whether it be Our students with special needs that are in and out, our students who excel, students who are absent frequently.... #waledchat
LATE! 😬 A2: Reflecting, as an educator, helps me identify my strengths and my areas for improvement. Reflecting on lessons and student learning helps me improve and shift my instruction. #waledchat
A3. Reflect on our building culture, student engagement, personal growth, professional responsibility, professional relationships, vacation spots, if we take our offspring to our own school.#waledchat
A3: ~ being more student driven rather than data driven
~ shifting the mindset that coaching is not because you’re not good enough but so you can grow
~ collaboration over competition between colleagues
~ impact of motivation and positive learning environments
#waledchat
It really is. There are some folks that become hyper focused on all the ways they want to get better but miss the positive moments, and then there is the other end of the spectrum as well. I try to be realistic and look for both! #waledchat
Reflecting has helped me see my goof-ups as a temporary problem and one I can change. Reflection is also empowering in that I helps me do my best for my kids while also helping with having a growth mindset. I also don't have to be perfect. #waledchat
A3: Reflection on your school as a philosophy-sharing unit. My P does an exit ticket every Friday that encourages us to do just that: individually and thinking about the whole school. #LoseTheEggCartonMentality#waledchat
A4: #waledchat I am so happy to have reconnected with @Hessteacherest this year. A personal goal has been to network more and learn from fellow educators. She has reminded me how important it is to connect and share ideas from the classroom!
A4: Yes there are like 100 people I could mention here. Gonna give a shoutout here to @moler3031. It has been awesome collaborating with Adam about a variety of topics. He has willingly shared so many incredible resources with me! #waledchat
A4: Connecting with @lessonsbykamar after using both the Google #CSFirst and Applied Digital Skills curricula was an awesome experience for both myself and my students. #waledchat
A3: Ideas to promote positive culture, book ideas, strengths of your school, adult traits to end the school year, planning for summer PD to promote individual growth. #waledchat
A2: Realize what worked & what didn't
Evolve my lessons & teaching delivery methods
Feedback from others to think about
Listen to my gut and take risks
Enlightening lightbulb moments to write down
Craft growth
Think, Plan, & Do! #waledchat
A4: I have to name 2! @MakeThemMastrIt and @MarisaEThompson have been crucial in my development as a teacher and have offered me encouragement as a writer. They are part of my squad now! #waledchat

In reply to
@MrPStrunk, @Mr_Lisek, @LBStrunk, @KristenSevinsky
Sorry, I’m late! Had to post a disucssion for the on-line portion of one of my classes! I’m Amanda, I live in Illinois and am an ESOL Coordinator in St. Louis! #waledchat
How about we reflect on how we get students to see and experience the power of reflection? What actions do we take to have students deeply & authentically understand how reflection is a robust component to the learning process?
#waledchat
A4) Connecting with educators in #MasteryChat and #waledchat has been the reason I’ve grown to use twitter to learn rather than judge. Lots of people to list. #waledchat
A4: Phil, @MrPStrunk, there are so many wonderful educators that you have helped bring into all of our lives. Thank you somuch for your dedication to supporting all of us reflect and become better at who we are and what we do! #waledchat
Q3:
⭐️ Increasing classroom culture
⭐️ Increasing student accountability
⭐️ What is engagement?
⭐️ Students as innovators (successes and failures)
A4: @khoggardGRT with #champforkids has been a great source of inspiration and ideas. I also have a great group of women at my school with whom I can be totally honest and just be me. They know who they are!! #waledchat
A1: I have enjoyed the networking! I’ve “met” some amazing educators through this chat and have really appreciated the reflection and collaboration we have shared!#waledchat
A4: My life is completely different now than it was a year ago thanks to the people in phenomenal communities like #tlap, #LeadLAP, #waledchat, #champforkids, #122edchat, #teachpos, and many others. I can't wait to see what the next year has in store! 🤓
A4 I honestly can't name 1 person. Every time I have jumped on twitter, I see a new idea, an uplifting comment, or a question/thought that really makes me stop and reflect. Appreciate you all! #waledchat
A4: I have really enjoyed following @iluveducating and @tracyscottkelly recently. Though there are so many others, I find myself liking or retweeting every post. So inspired!#waledchat
A3: I do take time to reflect on my kids, my classroom, and my lessons. I need to spend time reflecting on how I can impact the big picture. How do my actions, or lack thereof, affect the big picture - our school’s culture and goals. What can I do for others? #waledchat
A5: My favorite birthday celebration is simply family time. With crazy schedules, it's hard to get together and I cherish the b-day celebrations!
#waledchat
A5: I really love the cake. My mom has the recipe for the best chocolate icing. I love it so much that my mom gave the recipe to @LBStrunk during one of her bridal showers. #waledchat
A4 pt 2: also love connecting with the @teacher2teacher community! So many insightful ideas to follow, questions asked by teachers and answered by teachers! #waledchat
Cristina- I was at a training yesterday that was talking about really having students own the data to help move the cognitive load to them. So your thought of "being more student driven than data driven" is hitting home. #waledchat
A5: Just hanging with friends, holding court, & having some laughs... A few years ago my seniors brought me a cake & that was just a cool time, too... #waledchat
I'm going to go for it-shameless self-promotion...
https://t.co/QirLAnwLDV
...offers practical techniques and research-based suggestions where all students, regardless of their abilities, are actively engaged in a vigorous, scaffolded, differentiated classroom...#waledchat
A5: My fave birthday celebration is actually seeing my son turn a year older. His birthday is the month before mine, and another year as his mom is realy the best celebration I can ask for #waledchat
A2: Without reflection we cannot see how we need to grow. Being honest about our behaviors within, and contributions (good or bad) to, our educational environments are key to ensuring personal and professional growth! #waledchat
A4 this is so hard but I can say that @MrPStrunk has been an awesome addition to my PLN and getting me on board with #waledchat has been awesome #waledchat
A4: Not sure that there’s one person. I’ve only been doing this for about 5 months or so, and I’ve loved getting to talk to new people. I’ve learned so much. #waledchat
A5: Our tradition with our daughters is a birthday bucket list - we will do whatever they want (within reason, ha) for the entire day! Want ice cream for breakfast on your birthday? You've got it! We even found a "pink horsey book" one year! Whew! #waledchat
Hey #waledchat I am so excited to announce that this Tuesday #champforkids is going to CHANGE IT UP and go YouTube Live with @HeckAwesome and do a Doodle AND Chat! I can wait to #sketchnote and chat with you all!
Q5: My son was born on my birthday. Every year we spend the day together. He gets to do something he wants and I am elated that I get to spend time with my special guy. It’s the best birthday present I could ask for. #waledchat
A5: I love getting a balloon on my birthday and enjoy having homemade cheesecake. Growing up, my mom always made spaghetti and garlic bread for my birthday dinner! #waledchat
A5: my middle name is German (sounds like Herman). My wife makes me a German Chocolate Cake as a joke because every graduation they say it like the country. Doesn't matter if I tell them ahead of time but she thinks its so funny.
#waledchat
A5: My bday is usually around Memorial Day so I tell my family our cookout is really for me, too! (Or sometimes I'm super lucky--like last yr--and the last day of school is my gift!) #waledchat
My oldest daughters sweet 16 was my favorite. We had a murder mystery party and 23 kids showed up—in semi formal attire to help stay in character #waledchat
A5. Mine is, we as a family get to eat wherever the Birthday person wants to. My 9 yr old for Monday, got to pick three dozen donuts to share with his classmates, and us, of course. #waledchat
A3: Reflecting upon our part in the mess (good or bad) when we are facing struggles or challenges. How does that honesty help us and everyone around us? #waledchat
A5: Just having dinner with my family. Without fail my August 20th B-day always falls around our back to school activities. It’s nice to balance and keep the traditions after work is done. #waledchat
A2: Reflection is as important as an educator as it is for our students. We should always be looking at what we’ve done and compare them to our goals to see what worked well and what could be done differently if anything. #waledchat
A3: reflecting on the relationships we are building with our kids is so important. Am I doing enough to connect and listen to them? Is there more I should/ can know about them? How can I better support them? #waledchat
A7) @MrHebertPE was the first other teacher I ever heard of who liked/did gamified classrooms, and it gave the the confidence to just DO IT... and he's the one who told me to get on Twitter, where I found #waledchat#shiftthis#gamemyclass#masterychat and all you people! 😍
#waledchat A5: My co-teacher and I see who can come up with the craziest birthday decorations for each other's classroom. It has become a tradition and a competition including parrots, dinosaurs, and a lot of crepe paper!
