TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
A1 Ahhh, the days of yore. My first #EdCamp was EdCamp Keene. A handful of our tech PLC headed over to check it out. It inspired us to start #EdCampME. There have been many many more since! #TnEdChat#EDUwin
A1 @edcampGigCity will be my very first edcamp experience! I feel like it will be beneficial for me due to the teacher influence of the content! #TnEdChat any tips?!
I think my first edcamp was @edcampGigCity 3 years ago - loved it! I think I’ve been each year since! Hate that I’ll be out of town this weekend and miss it. #TnEdChat
You’ll love it!! Hard rule to follow at my first edcamp was the rule of 2 feet...go to a session & leave when you’re ready to pop into another #tnedchat
A2: I hope to hear the experiences of other people from similar and different types of districts. A variety of perspectives would give me some clarity on things I want to learn about. #tnedchat
A2 The greatest personal benefit is the idea that Ts are teaching Ts. The profession is rich with intelligent and capable individuals and we can help each other grow in the service of our students. I gain so much from learning from my peers. #TnEdChat#EdCamp
A2: Connections! I never really felt connected with hardly any educators outside of my own school. I love to have more people within reach to visit or pick their brains now. #tnedchat
A2) I hope to get ideas about transitioning to a more future ready classroom culture and knowing how to do it effectively. I also love getting new ideas about PBL projects for Ss! #TnEdChat
A2: making connections w/ tweeps & educators, learning & growing w/out of the box thinkers, realizing there are others to join me when I step out of a box #tnedchat
A2: Making connections with other educators - EDUfriends that will answer questions, help out, and share ideas. I’ve meet so many amazing educators @edcampGigCity#Tnedchat
A2 Once I found edcamps I found my tribe. Edus that aren’t embarrassed by caring about improving themselves professionally. Started making positive connections with really smart and passionate folks. #tnedchat
Sometimes we feel like we are on an island. Being with peers at an EdCamp is rejuvenating! I am inspored by the creativity and ideation. #BirdsOfAFeather#TnEdChat
I hope to leave with some fresh ideas of how to improve. I know there is so much value in collaborating with other Ts who also love what they do. I don't really know what to expect. I've presented often in NY and even at TCTE, but I'm intrigued by an unconference #Tnedchat
A3: The great thing about EdCamps is @hadleyjf (creator of EdCamps) could show up! But seriously biggest thing I always get out of them are connections & new ideas to try!
#Tnedchat
A3 to make connections. If you have a chance to meet the people you talk with and chat with online will give you a boost of energy. It's very cool. #Tnedchat
A3: ATTEND. For someone that likes structure, it's good to feel the uncomfortableness of not knowing what to expect (our students deal with it). BUT, if you are open to learning from others, growing a PLN, and asking/listening/sharing its amazing for everyone! #tnedchat
A3: to attend: even though I haven’t been to one YET, I would encourage educators to join in because to give of ourselves, our time, our experience- we will all grow. #Tnedchat
A3 because an Edcamp can be whatever you want it to be. It isn’t defined. If there isn’t a session you like, go in the hall and make your own session. #TnEdCHat
A3: You never know who you will meet or even have the chance to present with, given the chance. Got to see sketchnoting from @HeckAwesome live as an Ignite presentation, and I facilitated a session with @jeffherb on educational uses for Twitter #TnEdChat
A3 Why attend #edcamp? You don’t know what you don’t know. The people you meet can change your edu perspective for the better. We can all get better. #tnedchat#edcampgigcity
A3 I'm not even sure what I'm in for, but with this many amazing educators meeting in one place to share knowledge, I'm telling everyone to join me! #Tnedchat
A3: I would encourage all educators to attend. I’ve brought teachers and administrators with me. highly recommend teachers who have limited opportunities to collaborate within their school/district to attend. If you’re wanting to get out of your comfort zone, come on. #Tnedchat
A3: don’t attend if you don’t have an open mind that’s open to learning w/collaboration, do attend if you want to share ideas & connect to peers that think outside the box with you #tnedchat
A3 Attend!
Personalize your professional learning experience by voting with your feet. Learn from peers. Share your ideas. Ask for help. Build your #PLN. #TnEdChat
A3 Why attend #edcamp? You don’t know what you don’t know. The people you meet can change your edu perspective for the better. We can all get better. #tnedchat#edcampgigcity
A2: Twitter gives me great crazy ideas. Edcamp helped me hear how others carried out similar crazy ideas in their xlsssrooms. Gave me a better plan than Twitter’s overall ideas. #Tnedchat
I have to say if you LOVE EdCamps & have @DiscoveryEd resources in your bldg, you should consider applying to #DENSI (Summer Camp for teachers)
#Tnedchat
These opportunities are what makes your PLN so powerful. I’ve been lucky enough to be part of many educational experiences because of my PLN. So glad our paths crossed, @jonbartelt! #TnEdChat

A3: It touches on topics you hear about. You can network with others, share your ideas, hear how others implement their ideas, bounce ideas off of others, etc. It’s like planning with the pro bowl teachers In the entire area!! #Tnedchat
Q4) One of my favorite things about an EdCamp is the rule of two feet. How do you feel about this rule in PD sessions? #TnEdCHathttps://t.co/wW0v2tOanv
A3.2: if you’re feeling burnt out, try edcamp. It’s not prescribed PD. You choose what you need. You discover your next step. You challenge yourself. #TnEdChat
Q2: There are two things that have been the most meaningful- a good friend from another school District & a sense of belonging. I have people that get me and what I’m passionate about.#TnEdCHat
A4 I love it...and because there are no "presenters" in the EdCamp philosophy I don't worry that I will offend someone by leaving to better meet my needs. #tnedchat
Q4) One of my favorite things about an EdCamp is the rule of two feet. How do you feel about this rule in PD sessions? #TnEdCHathttps://t.co/wW0v2tOanv
A1: My first edcamp was done on a whim at Baylor HS and I’m so glad I followed my whim! I got hooked on the idea of PD done for and by teachers! #TnEdCHat
A4 The rule of two feet puts participants in charge of their own learning. EdCamp is for the participant. All sessions are well intentioned and have value but we are looking to push our own growth edge. If the session is not what you need find something else that works! #TnEdChat
A4 This is something that intrigues me even more about the format. It forces you to take ownership of your experience and to make choices which we are working with our students to do. #tnedchat
Q4) One of my favorite things about an EdCamp is the rule of two feet. How do you feel about this rule in PD sessions? #TnEdCHathttps://t.co/wW0v2tOanv

Rule of Two Feet. Any time you're in a meeting where you're not contributing nor adding or gaining value--you are encouraged to use your two feet and find a place where you can. #TnEdCHat
A4: It can be awkward first, but this is my time and time is precious. I’m going to go where I feel like I’m contributing or learning or I’m leaving. Your 2 feet should lead you 2 what matters 2 you. #TnEdChat
A4: I like it because it’s not offense to anyone. You know up front that people are coming and going. If it isn’t meeting your interest or needs go find what you need -I bet our S wish they could do that! #TnEdChat
A4) What if students could do this in class? Rule of Two Feet. Any time you're in a meeting where you're not contributing nor adding or gaining value--you are encouraged to use your two feet and find a place where you can. #TnEdCHat
A4 The rule of two feet is empowering for #edcamp attendees. You don’t have to spend your valuable time in a session that isn’t providing value. It’s not rude. It’s expected. #EdcampGigCity#tnedchat
A4 I think this is great! Give where you can, and take where you can, but don't waste time being stagnant. I can't tell you how many times I've been "stuck" in a PD that I already knew, or it didn't apply... Bc I didn't want to be rude. #Tnedchat
Q4) One of my favorite things about an EdCamp is the rule of two feet. How do you feel about this rule in PD sessions? #TnEdCHathttps://t.co/wW0v2tOanv
A3: I tell others it’s the most powerful unPD you’ll ever experience. It’s this networking, like-minded event that leaves you feeling invigorated and excited. I will say that if they’re not into that kinda thing, #edcampgigcity isn’t for them. #TnEdChat
A4) I am excited for the 🦶🦶 rule! To know that I can move about to everything I’m interested in and completely control my schedule sounds like time well spent to me! #TnEdChat
A4: The ability to leave an ongoing session with your “two feet” is great if you are torn between topics being presented at the same time. Learning without boundaries #TnEdChat
A4b Actually some of my best learning has come during lunch. Just sitting with some people I don't know and chatting. A session board doesn't look interesting? Find someone sitting in the hallway! #tnedchat
I do this in my room! If Ss are distracted by someone around them or need the help of a different peer- they move! They love the flexibility of sitting WHEREVER, WHENEVER! #TnEdChat
A4: uh, it’s the best rule EVER!! Having the freedom to recognize that the topic isn’t for you & finding one that is, makes #edcampgigcity the ideal PD. I can find what I want to learn more about, not what others THINK I should learn more about. #TnEdChat
I think the rule of 2 feet reminds us that we are not just “attending” PD but are active collaborators at edcamp. Stay, switch, listen, or lead - you create the experience. #TnEdChat
A2 I am hoping to meet and connect with many more educators to share ideas! I am also looking for more info on tech teams. @juliedavisEDU has been very helpful in sharing. Reach out to me if you have ideas/suggestions. #tnedchat

A4.2: I had a mentor teacher who told me that the worst thing you can do is waste a teacher’s time. Don’t waste your time in a session that’s not working for you. #Tnedchat
A3: don’t attend if you don’t have an open mind that’s open to learning w/collaboration, do attend if you want to share ideas & connect to peers that think outside the box with you #tnedchat
I went to #edcampusa for EdCamp planners at Emory in Atlanta. I LOVED it! Got ideas for #edcampgigcity and chatted with other people passionate about the unconference movement. @hadleyjf became someone I could bounce ideas off of-hence this year's afternoon of encore! #tnedchat
A5 Last January when I still lived in Rome, GA, I drove 2 hours to attend @edcampGigCity! Got to meet @juliedavisEDU and @AaronMarvelEDU that day. New places and new people can stretch you in good ways. #TnEdCHat

I will say that #edcampgigcity gets better every year. We take the exit ticket feedback seriously. We've adjusted multiple years to meet more needs. Hope you love it! #tnedchat
A5: I haven’t traveled out of town for an EdCamp yet. @edcampGigCity has been so amazing that I haven’t ventured out. Any recommendations that are reasonable drive from Chattanooga? #Tnedchat
A5: Over 600 miles to @EdcampMagic in Orlando. I met up with some teacher friends from college, and there were educators there from across the nation. Such a wealth of knowledge to bring back to Chattanooga! #TnEdChat
Hola! Coming to you from my car!! Seriously. Jumped in midway #TnEdChat after my monthly #CHArlanooga meetup, which I was late to b/c of an exciting planning mtg for a 2nd #Fundforteacher Grant that went over b/c I overlooked the time w/ my English tutoring session! #teacherlife
A5 This Saturday will be my first, it's about an hour and a half away, but I've traveled to NY #nysec, Boston #ncte, and heading to ATL #teachyrheartout in March for amazing PD with outstanding educators. #Tnedchat
A5: I’ve been totally spoiled... 1 mile to RBMS, 2-3 miles to Baylor, and maybe 3-4 miles to GPS... my #edcampgigcity experience has been SWEET. Would I travel further?! Shoot yes! #TnEdChat

#tnedchat
A6) I’ve never been but I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s cool swag from EdCamp and their dreams to host their own! 😎#Tnedchat Last part- oh yes, I’m in.
Thanks Nathan & Jon - right back at ya. There’s nothing better then going to conferences and having1st time face-to-face meetings and reunions with your PLN. #tnedchat

Edcamp foundation messenger bag
I do host!
An open mind and a drive to get things done. (and you can ask the foundation for an EdCamp in a box) #tnedchat
A6 I’m a sucker for stickers and promo codes to try out premium apps. Excited to be working on the @edcampGigCity team this year! Glad to give back to a format that has done so much for me. #Tnedchat

A6: Never got swag, but now I have FOMO. D13 is hosting it’s second EdCamp, organized by my talented staff (@kimdarche and @JoyKirr came to the first one). You’ll need a building with some large spaces and breakout rooms. I wish I could come to @edcampGigCity#TnEdChat

There was one a few years back! I was there....at @MickShuran school. It was very small but it was put on by someone outside your district. You guys could rock the area...but you still have to come to #edcampgigcity#tnedchat

A6: Does coming home from #edcampmadison with a trunk full of New Glarus Spotted Cow that I bought myself count as swag? Cuz that happens every year. #Tnedchat
