The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.

R1: empowering others is relinquishing control. It is giving them the opportunity to make decisions. It is having trust in them that you support their decisions. #INeLearn
A1: When I think of “empower” I think of:
1. Giving others a Platform
2. District Committees
3. Multiplying Leaders
4. Listening to Multiple Perspectives
5. Having Leadership Roles for multiple people in an organization

R1: Be engaged and an active listener, make eye contact. As a leader don’t micromanage and don’t be afraid to say “yes.” Everything doesn’t have to come from you. Grow others. With great risk comes great reward. Hire & grow great people and let them do their thing!! #INeLearn
R1: the learners need to be part of the learning process. Here is how we are empowering learners in our no grade level elementary. https://t.co/SGlJQDWNyl#INeLearn
Awesome list! I particularly like multiplying leaders - it is then we empower others to lead the way, share their voice, bring new ideas to the table! #INeLearn

R1: Our middle school uses @PerLearnTools to allow learners to schedule their core content each day. It is incredible to watch learners do this. #INeLearn

R2 The engagement should fuel the desire to move forward on their own whether you're talking about Ts or Ss. Once I'm bought in, feel validated, and have practice...I'm ready to take some test flights. #INeLearn
R2: give Ss the opportunity to contribute to the type and style of learning that fits their needs. Also, give them the opportunity to explore topics that interest them. Similar to #GeniousHour#INeLearn
R2: engagement is still learners excited about learning, but empowerment is the learners now taking initiative to drive their learning. Also here learners are creating artifacts of learning to show what they know. Through this engagement is even higher. #INeLearn
R1 Students are empowered when they have the the support, resources, voice and ability to make decisions and implement changes in their own learning and education. I hope this eventually leads to impacting others' learning and communities. #INeLearn
R2: When teachers are not seen as simply the keepers of knowledge, but rather the facilitators of the knowledge. We want our students to have a voice and choice in their education and our school district is doing some amazing things with this mindset over the last year. #INeLearn

R2 When a T has an idea, let them explore it. Provide assistance and feedback, but allow them to take some risks. I've felt more empowered this yr than ever before since going through my ed leadership practicum. #INeLearn
R2: I always heard “I am done now what do I do?” With our new #personalizedlearning environments we don’t hear this. We hear i am ready for show my learning. I am ready for the next learning opportunity #INeLearn

R2 Engagement draws Ss in. It is connected to their passions and they see relevancy in what they are learning. Engagement helps them notice their growth edges. Empowerment pushes Ss to take their learning and give it action. How does what they learn impact others? #INeLearn
R2: instead of having set courses, Ss design a plan to help out the community with a project of their choosing. They learn their subjects while benefitting the community. Teachers guide Ss, but Ss have complete autonomy in learning. #INeLearn

R3 I think having the right tools provided by those who are guiding me has made all the difference. Also, when I see the "Why" in what I am asked to do, it makes a difference! #INeLearn
R3 - I find it’s usually being given the freedom and given the green light to try something new. Being able to bring passion into what we do helps empower us by bring our best selves to the table. #INeLearn
R3: There have been teachers and administrators at every level who gave me advice, opportunities, and resources. We owe it to the profession to do the same for others. #INeLearn
R3: I was allowed to create online curriculum in 2002, started 3D printing in my classes 3 yrs ago. I just try to keep up with new ideas that I can try out. I volunteer to test things out. #INeLearn

R3: I have gotten a lot of inspiration, motivation, and energy from the leaders in my school district @LakotaDistrict, my dedicated and creative staff @AdenaElementary, and from all of the things that I I’ve been exposed to @Twitter! #INeLearn#KidsDeserveIt
R3: I love our district because we all feel empowered to take risks and think outside the box. I did two years worth of research and work on “why do we have grade levels in elementary schools” to then taking that idea with a team and forming a #personalizedlearning path #INeLearn
R3: My dept head @bernhard254 has been very supportive, offing me a sounding board, guidance and advice but not just telling me what to do #INeLearn#shamelesstag
R3: I remember:
1. The Supt who sent me to my 1st national conference
2. The Asst Supt who co-presented with me at a state conference
3. The 1st person who nominated me for a board position with a state organization
#INeLearn#empower
R4 On our team, anytime someone has an idea, I always encourage and ask how we can support or build upon it alongside of them. Empowerment doesn't always mean you go it alone. #INeLearn
R4: I give a lot of projects for my Ss to do. How they get to the solution is up to them. When Ss have multiple opportunities to come up with a solution in multiple different medium, the Ss are then in power. #INeLearn

R4: I have made sure that when I ask for feedback and ideas that we use them. We turn their voice into action. Also getting them to share and explain the incredible work they are doing. #INeLearn
R4 - in my line of work, a lot of times it’s simply being able to show the instructor the tools they need to be more effective in their teaching. It can be as small as how to use Speedgrader in an LMS to how to completely redesign their content delivery. #INeLearn
R3 My administrators @scottsburgms both empower me by giving me opportunities to learn or start new processes. @candicedodson is also an amazing person who empowers those around her. I am so thankful for these people in my life! #INeLearn

Couldn’t agree more! Sometimes we think it is easy if we just do it ourselves, but that is not leading the way and building others to lead the way as well! #INeLearn
R5: there are leaders that have a micromanagement issues. That is the complete opposite of empowering. I have worked in situations of this and it isn’t fun at all. #INeLearn
R6 Is it appropriate to suggest getting an accountability partner who helps you with this? Perhaps another leader in the district? Sometimes breaking the habit of control is tough. #INeLearn
Vision is key! Have to know your why, the organization’s why to begin that journey. Empowering others in that journey will lead to its success #INeLearn
R6: We have to share our stories and show the great things we are doing. It then can lead to further discussions for leaders and teachers to see how schools are doing this. #INeLearn
Absolutely! Or even someone in your PLN who can keep you on track! I know for me, my PLN has been instrumental in helping me become a better leader and empower others along the way #INeLearn

R5: Tradition! I love tradition as much as the next person, but not when it gets in the way of innovation and reduces our ability to empower kids simply because... "That's not the way we've always done it." #INeLearn

R7 - incorporating #udl principles into our teaching. This allows students to show what they’ve learned by giving them the ability to choose how they want to show it. Giving that flexibility allows their character and learning to shine through. #INeLearn
Before the chat comes to a close, we on behalf of @inelearn want to thank @AmyHeavin for acting as one of our core moderators for quite some time. Tonight is her last chat in a "full time" capacity. Please show her some love and gratitude for her work! #INeLearn

A7: To be completely honest, I struggle to envision the future of education, primarily because the possibilities are endless. Who am I to say where they are going to lead? My job is to encourage, facilitate, and empower. To bring out the Ss gifts, enabling growth. #INeLearn
Thank you all SO much! Each person in this PLN has pushed me to become a better leader for my staff, my students, my school, my community, and my PLN! Thank you! It has been awesome! #INeLearn

Here are a few housekeeping items for our #INeLearn chat. We will take a break to rest and rejuvenate next week. We return with a special chat event on Jan. 3! To all of our amazing, rockstar educators--Merry Christmas!!! You've earned your break! #INeLearn
Thank you for joining & sharing your ideas this evening! Sadly, this will be my last official Thursday to moderate the chat for #INeLearn - but I will still be here and will be back from time to time!
