Q2 Safety is Top Priority on the Aircraft
In what ways do you ensure your learners feel safe (comfortable to be REAL, take risks, learn through the process) in your classroom (EDU-setting)?
#tlap
A1: Props- manipulatives, instruments, science materials,
humor (or whatever you need to do “you”) so you can build relationships
Creativity- in lessons, in classroom management, in assessment, in “how do I make copies and bring them back to my room” while on crutches...#tlap
A1: For an action packed lesson I take a little advice from my pal @jtimberlake I bring that sunshine in my pocket and that good soul in my feet... aaaand a little positive JT attitude helps too... #TLAP
I was reminded today how important sense of humor is. Interview questions for next year will have to somehow gauge someone’s sense of humor... do they have one, yes or no. #tlap
A1: Fourth Item... pirates are allowed to break the rules - I'd bring tissues because you all make me laugh so much that my milk comes out my nose #tlap
A2 Strategically placing "Relatable" Activities within my lessons/presentations to help the learners gain a family-like culture.
I have lots of examples here:
R (in REAL)-Part 1---> https://t.co/QlTgP95saF#tlap

In what ways do you ensure your learners feel safe (comfortable to be REAL, take risks, learn through the process) in your classroom (EDU-setting)?
#tlap
A2: You have to be able to trust the pilot and your fellow passengers. Building trusting relationship early and returning to strengthen them throughout the year is a must. #tlap
a2: I can't emphasize enough: you need to know their names. they need to know each other's names. you won't take risks around people that say, "umm, that person over there." #tlap
A2 encourage them to make mistakes, have plenty of time for collaboration and reflection and support them at all times with a positive outlook and plenty of enthusiasm #tlap
A1: An awesome destination in mind, a great map showing possible ways to get from here to there, and a flexible frame of mind to help you adapt along the journey when the unexpected happens! #tlap
Q1 Pilots Pack Light
When packing for an action-packed learning experience, what three items (literally or metaphorically) MUST you have in your carry-on?
#TLAP
A2: I take risks in front of them. Modeling. I try very hard to create an academic "safe space" where students are free to take risks without fear of being wrong or looking silly. #tlap
I thought I'd join #tlap tonight-it's been awhile. Now I realize why that is- it's hard to keep up with such an active chat this late. I'll do my best though!
A2: I chose to sit in a central place and used music to create a comfort spot in our caring climate, to check emotional barometers and set the tone for a positively joyful day. These superheroes are my WHY, so I let their needs drive our morning rituals. #tlap
A2: Creating safety in the classroom for me has been about vulnerability. Not just admitting mistakes, but being open about your life and why you make your choices. #tlap
A2: Step 1-Get to know your students beyond their academic status.
Step 2- Model risk taking and be real with them
Step 3-Encourage a growth mindset and don't use fixed mindset language.
Step 4-Have a sense of humor. Fun places are ripe for positive risk taking! #tlap

Q1 Pilots Pack Light
When packing for an action-packed learning experience, what three items (literally or metaphorically) MUST you have in your carry-on?
#TLAP
A2: My learners start to feel safe when I model risk taking, mistake making, and ways to redeem myself through metacognitive reflection (many times, out loud in front of them). Then, their safety is reinforced when I encourage and watch them do the same. #TLAP
A2 sharing your own stories and asking for their own input helps. Let them know you will stand up for them and welcome all viewpoints and perspectives #tlap
A2: we started the year with “wonder” projects and building a passion wall. We discuss growth mindset and set goals. We are training our minds to focus on growth and learning rather than grades and finishing. #tlap

A2- Speak to students about what a safe environment where students can be REAL and take risk looks like in a classroom and why it is essential. The T must also model this respectful behavior and refrain from using sarcasm, be respectful to Ss and admit when mistakes happen #tlap
A2:This year I took a different route to feeling safe...I shared a pic of my partner & I as well as a tidbit of info about us during the first week of school. I continued by telling Ss "I want you to feel safe in sharing anything and feeling accepted" so I must do the same #tlap

#tlap
A2: super simple is “appreciations” circle up the class and take turns appreciating one another. Totally awkward st first and then it just flows... #tlap
A2: I think safety is created when we show kids that we care about them. Use their name, ask them how they’re doing, actually listen and genuinely respond. #tlap
A2: I start by modeling desirable behaviors, creat rapport ASAP, plugin into their interests, and highlight/ celebrate/ incentivize any teach the teach moments through badges & AP to spend in my virtual store.
#tlap
Q3 Prepare for Take-Off
There is often a lot of anticipation while taxiing and preparing for taking off.
What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?

In #dsu360, it is time to put those confederate statues on trial. Take them down or leave them up? Introducing the first ever Mock Trial of the Realm of Dragons. Court is in session October 24th. #tlap@DSUteach
A2 Make sure we tell them and then show them. When we say it’s ok to take a risk we then have to celebrate that Risk even in failure, help them bounce back, and then celebrate the fact they tried again. #tlap
A2: I am sure to model risk taking and failure for them! We celebrate together and are cheer each other on. Playing a new game together today at morning meeting was intimidating at first but after some modelling, some problem solving and some cheers we were alllll good. #TLAP
A3 My fave @burgessdave#tlap hook is the Message Board hook or the Costume/Prop hook! Those two are my go-to's.
Oh and I like the Mystery Box one!
Used the Prop Hook aka hat + compass in my #InnnovatorsCompass sesh at #FallCue. *I know you wish you were me. LOL. ;)
#tlap
A2: Let them see you fail and pick yourself up! Praise effort and grit instead of intelligence. Give immediate and specific feedback that keeps them on coarse. You’re not just their coach; you’re their biggest fan, cheerleader, champion. #TLAP
A2: being REAL and showing Ss that we all fail...myself included. Build relationships and model that perseverance by showing them that we don’t give up. #tlap
A3: I tease the end goal/activity/project when we’re working on skill building. Giving them context for why the learning is important is huge for building intrinsic motivation. #tlap
Q3 Prepare for Take-Off
There is often a lot of anticipation while taxiing and preparing for taking off.
What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?
#TLAP
A3: In history, I will often start with the current and work backwards. For instance, a study of the fall of the Berlin Wall becomes a question of, how did that wall get put up in the first place? Flip the paradigm. #tlap
A2:Model mistakes. Give them opportunities to fail and realize it’s ok. Allow them to breathe. Don’t get on the about stupid stuff like pencils or they’ll never take risks with the big stuff.... like learning... relationships first, learning will naturally come. #tlap
A3: I teach virtually, and start the suspense at the end of a lesson for the upcoming lesson. I'm eager to implement some new Hooks this week as I just finished reading the Hooks section of #tlap
Q3 Prepare for Take-Off
There is often a lot of anticipation while taxiing and preparing for taking off.
What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?
#TLAP
A3 I love giving them scenarios to ponder and write about. Like “Bring Only What You Can Carry”...they have to leave Home immediately—what do you bring and why. Then it transitions to a discussion and the. to covering Paleolithic life. Love things Ss come up with #tlap
Q3 Prepare for Take-Off
There is often a lot of anticipation while taxiing and preparing for taking off.
What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?

What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?
#TLAP
A3 Push them to the edge of their comfort level in the dark, then flip on the light and show them the safety net... have them "explore a mystery" to get them thinking #tlap
A2: Its important to create an environment where all voices are respected and valued. Where mistakes are not judged, but taken as learning opportunities. Where productive struggle is celebrated. #TLAP
Q2 Safety is Top Priority on the Aircraft
In what ways do you ensure your learners feel safe (comfortable to be REAL, take risks, learn through the process) in your classroom (EDU-setting)?
#tlap
A3: Definitely transforming the classroom space! Lighting, rearranging furniture, and music are always great for building excitement and intrigue 💡 #tlap
A1: my flex tape, my mix tape, and ping-pong paddle! Flex tape= my ability to flex a lesson on the fly; my mix tape= and lib #Freestyle; ping-pong paddle = unpacking a lesson over ping pong with colleagues
#tlap
A3: I love a good costume hook!! When you greet Ss in the morning and are dressed up... they can’t get to the classroom fast enough to see what they’ll be learning about that day!! #tlap
A3 I brought a Super Soaker water gun to school today and had it prominently displayed in my room all day. Lots of questions and curiosity before I finally read the book Wooosh!! to my class. #tlap
Q3 Prepare for Take-Off

What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?
#TLAP
#tlap A3 I have pretended to be @ofctimallen Tim the Tool Man Taylor since the early 90's at my job. The kids LOVE the grunts, #MorePower chants, and side stories. My favorite hook... Today we are going to learn with.... Kids yell out "MORE POWER!" <3 my job!
A3: I like to use music to start the day and my karaoke mic to get things going. And obviously the costume hook. Kids always want to see what I'm wearning #tlap
A2: I want my teachers to know that I will support them in any way that I can to help them succeed with their students. Listen, be empathetic and be their co-pilot if necessary in planning because our goal is to create classrooms where kids want to be. Champion for them. #tlap
A3: I've borrowed @sbentonteach 's "You don't want to miss tomorrow."
And I leave the Wal-Mart bag FULL of supplies on a table....to peek curiosity. #tlap
Q3 Prepare for Take-Off
There is often a lot of anticipation while taxiing and preparing for taking off.
What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?
#TLAP
A3: My greatest hook was always the puppet; here are our friends Winthrop and Rainbow trying to decide which book to read. It's so fun to have a convo between two puppets, to create a conflict and empower the Ss to come to the rescue and help them out. #tlap
A3: I love the mystery bag hook and costume hook. I really like hooks that get the students involved with their emotions - for example, I haven’t assigned seats all year but I am soon when we discuss salutary neglect after the F&I war. They understand how colonists felt #tlap
A3: I also love using picture books with older Ss as a hook. They are so over scheduled that giving them a chance to be a kid again relaxes and opens them up for learning. #tlap
A3: Cover part of the board, shut the door, ask a co-worker to come say something like "are you really sure you're going to risk getting caught??", or tell one kid..the one who needs the extra love..and make them swear not to tell anyone!! Love the suspense hook! #tlap
I love using music in the class - especially if we can find songs that connect to the things we are studying. I love building a class playlist and then having a March Madness style bracket near the end of the year to vote for our favourite song. #tlap
A3: I love using movie clips as discussion starters, hot topic articles, photos, games, or a mission. Costumes and voices are a must! I secretly wish I was born in the south y’all. #tlap
A3: I display this sign on the whiteboard so that my kids know that something big is coming, but I never tell them what it is. Sometimes they can talk me into revealing a clue! #tlap
A3. Sometimes to leave them guessing, as to what's going to happen next! Drive the curiosity! Wait until the very end to tell the why behind the activity! #tlap
Q1 Pilots Pack Light
When packing for an action-packed learning experience, what three items (literally or metaphorically) MUST you have in your carry-on?
#TLAP
A3: love to sit and have conversations - share with them and have them share with me about the upcoming unit or topic of study before actually mentioning it. Gets their minds thinking and relating to it. #tlap
Q3 Prepare for Take-Off
There is often a lot of anticipation while taxiing and preparing for taking off.
What's your favorite strategy (or hook) to build suspense (before take off) and why?
#TLAP
A1: my inspiration, my #tlap tshirt, flip flops-I need to be comfortable, open to fun & action & full of inspiration so I can enjoy it & inspire others #tlap
Q4 Take-Off
Taking off is crucial; the plane must accelerate on the runway and transition airborne smoothly.
The best EDU-Takeoffs are when EDUpilots transition from curious students to engaged learners, relatively quickly.
Describe your best lesson "Take-Off."
#tlap
A4- Learned some great strategies over the years from @rickwormeli2 like wrapping a box, leave them with a statement like tomorrow you will learn what Eli Manning and Davy Crockett have in common.. giving Ss an audience for their work is also a great way to increase Ss E #tlap
A3: I like to put out strategic materials and listen to them guess what we’re going to do. Love hearing, “we can’t do that in school” when someone guesses it... I don’t tell them if they are right or wrong.. except today. I gave it away today. #awfulatchristmastoo#tlap
Q2 Safety is Top Priority on the Aircraft
In what ways do you ensure your learners feel safe (comfortable to be REAL, take risks, learn through the process) in your classroom (EDU-setting)?
#tlap
A2 We value mistakes and struggle and Ss know that these are the times and circumstances where we learn the most. Random grouping also helps! Ss are so used to working with all different people and know we all learn from each other. #tlap
A3: Any excuse to rock out a costume hook is a win! First day of Between the Lines Book Club = Harry Potter in the halls!
Pirate costume coming out on Oct 30! Our pirate tablecloths are in and the Pirate Flag will be waving proudly! #tlap
A3 mystery box or envelop or anything wrapped up for sure! And then, when it’s finally time to open it, teasing them with it by asking questions and peaking inside and telling them maybe we should wait until after recess or... so fun! #tlap
A3 I love seeing Ts use mystery boxes and rm https://t.co/YK21US5EfM a T I always used my BF chris for every story and it told our childhood story as the year progressed until adulthood when he passed. Ss couldn’t wait to hear what adventures were next.Sad but bonded us #tlap
A4: EDU-takeoffs are fastest when the kids get to have a choice in how they'll approach an assignment and when they get to do something that they enjoy doing. Most of my Ss love hands-on work. #tlap
A3: I like to use music to start the day and my karaoke mic to get things going. And obviously the costume hook. Kids always want to see what I'm wearning #tlap
A3: My favorite way to build suspense is making mysterious Instagram stories, but I need to be better about building exciting suspense. I have been focusing on prepping them for everything that I forgot to have fun and build the excitement! Sound effects are always helpful! #TLAP
A3: Leaving a lesson with a cliffhanger as to what is to come next always leaves Ss with an exasperated “oh man” and “can you tell us a little?” They are instantly excited for what comes next! #tlap
A3: Of course I am partial to the Picasso Hook, but real world hook (authentic uses) But also the storytelling hook, helps Ss to make connections to self! #tlap
A3: I like to use music to start the day and my karaoke mic to get things going. And obviously the costume hook. Kids always want to see what I'm wearning #tlap
A3: I always loved the "real world" hooks. If I could draw connections to why they need to know "this" it always added to the engagement levels of the class because students saw value in what they were learning. #tlap
That’s awesome! I bet they were EGG-cited. Did you just wing it? Or did you feel cooped up in that suit? Hopefully there was no fowl play…okay I’m done now #tlap
In reply to
@kellithelen, @JFNorfolk, @BelAirElem, @WPelementary
A4 That hook that then makes them want to know more—have to make sure that it’s a smooth transition—and then they want more/desire more...they are making their own flight path to the destination. #tlap

A4 My best lesson take off is the positive learning lesson. I start off, "Babies are stupid. They can't walk, talk, they drool on themselves." I then get yelled at and we start a conversation about not be ready enough. #tlap
A4: Take off has to allow for all students to engage immediately. The old Raise your hand 1 by 1 kills momentum. So whatever it is, they all have to be able to participate immediately. I like movement 4 corners (of the room) Think Pair Share, Waterfall in Virtual class #tlap

A2: providing voice & choice throughout the learning too allow people to be comfortable but create opportunities to collaborate with new people too; allow for dress up themed pirate PDs so Ts can be casual & get crazy if they want #tlap I also dress up, chat with each person
Q4 Take-Off
Taking off is crucial; the plane must accelerate on the runway and transition airborne smoothly.
The best EDU-Takeoffs are when EDUpilots transition from curious students to engaged learners, relatively quickly.

A4: After phenomena about states of matter today, (loved the conversations about videos I put up for them to choose and watch) stations start tomorrow! Oobleck, venm diagram, acrostic poems, ice cubes, ping pong balls, and their bodies acting like molecules! cant wait! #tlap
A4: best take off of a lesson happened with my #gamification
Of the #HungerGames. I hinted at all of the fun, provided many opportunities for success, and received a lot of #studentsuccess through use of varied teaching and offering more #studentchoice & physical challenges #tlap
A4: My best lesson take offs have nothing to do with the lesson. They are critical thinking and decoding games that get the juices flowing and are fun. #tlap
A4: Having Ss read my first #DBC50Summer blog without them knowing it was written by me, guess the author, and then having them set their own reading goals. #tlap
A4: Just like a perspective-shift happens when we take off in a literal plane, I try to provide my students with a perspective of the content or skill I am teaching from a different angle. Relatable analogies are usually very helpful. #TLAP
Q4: Working on this...but I would say through structure and routine. Students know when I’m about to take off and that it’s time to just hold on 😂 #TLAP

Q5 We are Experiencing Some Turbulence
When you experience turbulence in a lesson, sometimes you have to ascend or descend to find a clear path.
What's your go-to strategy for getting the "aircraft" to a smoother altitude for your learners?
#TLAP
A4 one of our favorite learning experiences is the communication lab. Ss have to build a random artifact together but only one S sees it and it has to go through three others to get built. A great team builder at the beginning of the year and one of my Ss favs #tlap

A4: After my bird puppet decries the fact that he can't fly and the Ss unlock that fixed mindset to help make flight possible, we launched into this #growthmindset Escape Room (Ss lovingly called it a trap room) experience that they LOVED!

A4 When Ss are excited to learn, are learning for the sake of learning an not a grade, when they know the Ts listens to them and allows them to pursue their passion, when they have ownership in what they are doing....this is what leads to a lesson that truly flys! #TLAP
A4: When I’m in classrooms doing read alouds or other lessons, I want students talking with each other as soon as possible. I try to ask an open ended question as quickly as the lesson allows and let the conversation begin. #tlap
A4- These are so hard to answer because my curriculum is so diversified. Linking Ss dream to their career plan, and earnings potential. It gets real when discussing plans on college or other paths. This is usually grade 11/12. #tlap
A4: Any meaningful project that relates to “real life” and created connection through community #collaboration or spreading #kindness seems to make for a smooth transition to engaged learner in our #kindergarten class! #TLAP
“Teach Like A Pirate” by Dave Burgess should have a warning label on it for people like me. It’s stronger than caffeine because it makes me too revved up to sleep. I can’t wait to get back to school with students. #tlap#SMSPD2018@cassmedley

A5 I hire Ss coaches! I did that today with our math lesson. 6 Ss that showed they understood the strategies and purpose. The kids were split up into the groups. They ❤️d it! #peerlearning#TLAP

A4. The hook is with hands on learning, active learning strategies, where the students are doing the learning themselves, making observations, thinking about results, and drawing their won conclusions! #tlap
A5: put on seatbelt & grab a airsick bag (sorry lost in the metaphor)…if we’re lost I usually ask the kids for directions about where they want to head and how they want to get there #tlap
A5: I try to engage the learners in the solution. What problems are we having? Why do you think we are having them? Let's brainstorm some solutions? Community Circle works well for this. If I've built the right environment-it tends to go well. Always a work in progress #tlap

A5. When you work with SPED kiddos, any lesson can go arry at anytime. The secret to turbulence is to stay flexible, patient, and revert to reminding about norms. Dont argue, and dont get into power struggles. #tlap
A5: to me, turbulence occur everyday. Being flexible as an adult can teach your Ss to be flexible as well. Soft skills. I adjust and tweak lessons all the time. Always room for improvement. #tlap
A4: When I tell Ss they will be creating their own grading tool. They set the bar for themselves. They only compete against...themself! They be like...what? I grade myself? They can’t believe it! Total engagment...their learning just got more real! #tlap
A5 “Attention passengers...this is your captain speaking...” addressing the class as a whole, checking in, gathering feedback, and then making adjustments—can be directions, time etc....but adjusting to meet the needs of the passengers (Ss). #tlap

A5:I listen to my passengers. Listen to convos or I ask. My ss HATE passion projects right now. I want to know why and how to fix it. I give them a reflection. Most times I know why. This time I don’t know why and I don’t know how to fix it. I won’t know until I ask! #tlap
A5: Sometimes you just have to go back to the beginning. Bring the kids back to the rug or table, re-examine the expectations, and then let them loose again #tlap
Q5 The best way to adjust is with open and honest conversations with the kids.."I was hoping this lesson would...how can I adjust so you can learn best?" Our Ss often have the answers we need if we just ask them and trust them #TLAP
#tlap A5 To get my Ss back on task a few Tim the Tool Man Grunts are all I need. Also... Teaching with a @surface tablet with a wireless display adapter is HUGE! I am not tethered to the front of the room. I can roam and maintain order while still writing on the board.
A5: Flying a plane is all about little adjustments. Keeping an eye out for little bumps in the air and smoothing them out can keep you from losing altitude. #tlap
A5: Model patience, reflection, & set up a Layered Curriculum. When Ss r all working at their own pace, u r freed up to work one-on-one w/Ss or in small groups. This doesn’t happen overnight but the pay off is worth the preparation. In this model, turbulence CANNOT rock u! #tlap
Sometimes the lesson focuses too much on putting info into Ss brains, we need to stop and show them how to pull that info out. "Brain Dumps" and "Fast & Curious" are a couple of my favorites. Word Sneak can be fun too if there is new vocabulary #tlap#eduprotocols@RetrieveLearn

A5: We take a quick time-out... brain break, call & response cheer, movement, etc. We take that moment to regroup, reflect, & decide on which new route to take! #tlap
A5: Turbulence requires a quick assessment of the situation and a shift! I love to get some Ss working on a project and then give “special information to a few learners and then send hem back to their team to share. #KidTeachers#tlap
If we want students to try, reflect, apply... we have to allow them that practice. Usually when I ask this, students reply with punishment suggestions instead of solutions. We MUST provide practice so they recognize when to step back, reflect, and adjust. #tlap

A5: sometimes turbulence occurs when kids need a break: handjive, yoga, stretching or Fitness Marshall (below!)Look him up on YouTube and you’re welcome!! ;)! #tlap
A5: Strategies for finding a path clear of the turbulence during a learning experience:
--Assess the passengers for social/emotional well being.
--Check the radar for anything that can be used to spice up the content.
--Employ emergency "fun" into activity! #tlap
A5 hitting the ‘reset’ button has helped me this year, using Socratic seminars and open forum format has helped and just being aware of what students are going through helps to be empathetic we teach (secondary) same lesson after lesson but those Ss only get it once #tlap

A5: Turbulent lessons are often the best learning experiences. It is always a great strategy to analyze with the learners what when wrong and why. Critical thinking at its best #tlap
A5: We actually plan for this when we SMART goal set. What is the backup plan in case something goes wrong. When we pre-plan solutions by anticipating problems we just go to Plan B, Plan C, Plan D with less stress! #tlap
Q6 Flight Attendants Please Prepare the Aircraft for Landing
Landing the plane is as vital as take-off.
Let's try to avoid a rough landing.
Describe your favorite closing or reflecting activity. Why?
#tlap
A5: I stop and problem solve. I ask Ss what they need. Sometimes, it is a break. Sometimes, it is clarification. Sometimes, it is a computer charger. Sometimes, it is time to process through a pair-share. Asking them about their needs and meeting them usually helps. #TLAP
A5: I turn to kids! Sometimes it means admitting defeat (“Mrs. Mac didn’t plan this well. Can we try again?”) & sometimes it means asking for help (“I’m having trouble explaining this. Can you help me?”) Strategy #1 worked perfectly in our pumpkin sorting lesson today 😳 #TLAP
A5: Put your own oxygen mask on before helping others. It's counterintuitive, but it's critical. Mandatory. A non-negotiable. Stay in the moment; be where your feet are. Unwrap the blessings in the burden, that's where you'll find the PRESENT! I promise.
#tlap
A6 My fave closing activity is Fish Bowl. Small groups stand in a circle and each "fish" (learner) steps in the bowl (inside the circle) to briefly share their fave take-away.
#tlap
A5: when I need to bring things back I tell a story about myself or my family to get everyone’s attention & being a calmness & some laughter-might be related to what’s occurring ex:falling off my bike as an adult because the pedal broke #tlap
A5 getting them up, moving, and talking to each other is always my go to when students seem disengaged. It usually happens when I’ve been talking too much! #tlap
A5: Haha - this happens all of the time!!! I ask the students to make a connection to the lesson. Real-world connections are a great way to engage all learners and make learning relevant! #tlap

I mean if I had $20M machine giving me directions and warnings I might not have to ask, but then maybe ask an air-traffic controller (coach) or let the co-pilot take over-or maybe we think of the kids a s co-pilots instead of passengers, stretch that metaphor…#tlap

A5- Most lessons are diversified and technology fails often. I'll accept responsibility, show vulnerability, be honest, explain why we have to shift gears. I find that the person that gets most upset is me, they usually don't mind. 😬 #tlap
A6: I take a lot of photos-we look at them in a media album and reflect on what worked well, what didn't and how we grew as learners. #tlap Photos are great for retrieval knowledge-getting info into long term memory.
A5: its a good time for everyone to look something up.....I pose the question & in groups they search online for possible solutions & share them; empower Ss #tlap
A6: closure is just as important the hook. Taking the time to recap is important and can help your Ss make connections from where you’ve been to where you’re going. #tlap
A6: My fave closing/reflecting activity can be oral or digital but is mandatory after a learning adventure: "After Action Report" to tell Mrs. Steinbrink what was great, could be improved, should be ditched. THEN, what could Ss do better to help the experience? #tlap
A6: Love closing group work days by asking students to recognize teammates who exemplified different values (ie: creativity, collaboration). Kids love sharing why their classmates were awesome and they all leave feeling positive. I let them reward PBIS bucks, too. #tlap
A6:I love Google Forms. No, really. Like I LOVE them. The pretty graphs. The data I collect from them is so invaluable. I give one at end of every unit. Learned last unit I did not spend enough time on pure substances. 😳😳 must be courageous to read. Ss are so honest! #tlap

A6: I ask “Was there a problem you had today that didn’t get solved? How can I help you solve your problem?” I end every day this way. It often brings up issues w/ lessons (“I didn’t understand math today”) and issues w/ relationships. It’s a great way to reflect together. #TLAP
A6: Using flipgrid to allow students to write their thoughts then give voice to them by saying them on camera often causes a deeper reflection and a more authentic and better result #tlap

A6- Favorite closing is simple but effective ...ask Ss what is 3 most important things learned today on their own, then discuss with partner, then share out (think, pair, share) then T shares their top 3 and see if it aligns,... ... #TLAP
A6: We do a quick check in thumbs up/sideways/down for our rules (did you respect yourself, each other and the things in our library?) Also use exit tickets, flip grid, quick turn and share and also "tell your teacher..." as they are picked up from library! #tlap

A6: I use these Reflection Exit Slips to not only help my workshop participants but also help me, to know what our hits and misses were. Ss who aren't writing much yet can draw their reflections. #tlaphttps://t.co/QMWmtMfufm
A6: the best way to close any instruction is to get that feedback from the learner. What helped you learn? What didn’t help? What do you think we should try next time to help your learning? #tlap feedback is a 2 way street
A6: Exit tickets Check 4 Understaning but I want to stretch them, in Math a Fix It ticket can push them to understand common misconceptions. I work in small groups with those who need support while others problem solve then share #tlap

A6: I've been talking a lot about Retrieval Process so I like to have them use a "Brain Dump" and just give me everything they remember on paper or verbally #tlap
A6: So far, my favorite is @Flipgrid video reflections. I have not done them as much as I would like to, but I am looking forward to expanding the possibilities with closing activities and reflections. #TLAP

A6: I love Google Forms, but I’m finding more and more that sometimes the best feedback and reflection comes from just talking with the learner about their takeaways. #tlap
I've done this with my smaller workshops of adults, too. LOVE it. I don't get to spend lots of time with them bc they are all over the nation. So, @Flipgrid keeps that feedback more REAL. #tlap
A6. Circle time for discussion and reflection! Then, asking Ss to share/describe, and show what they did in learning with their adults who pick them up! Lots of questions are asked! #tlap
A6: My new favorite activity is having Ss reflect on their work and share it on @Seesaw with their families. Not only can I given them feedback but the comments their fam's make just shows them how much everyone cares and appreciates their hard work! #tlap
A5: We stop. Rewind- ask if there is any understanding. Talk it out together until we see it more clearly. If time runs out I reflect when they leave me and revisit the next day #tlap

A6 Verbal exit tickets out the door (written ones are good too) but verbal requires them to talk to you and you can have a personal conversation making you Approachable #tlap
A6: We close by sitting in a circle on the carpet to share what we learned and reflect back on the learned skill. We also complete a sticky note exit ticket. Second graders love sticky notes! #tlap
A5: My go to when turbulance occurs is to bust a #Freestyle while I troubleshoot or use it as a #growthmindset moment. I showcase my #failure, and use my back up plans to demonstrate #grit

#tlap
A7: Hooks for sure will be my big venture this week as I transfer these ideas in the virutal setting. I have a box of fun hats i'll be getting out of the garage for sure!!! #tlap Thanks for the great Hook Ideas tonight Pirates
A7: Fish Bowl is a great activity. I definitely lack reflection options that quickly allow all students who want to talk the opportunity while also empowering more reserved students. #tlap
A5) Ha! The best lessons create turbulence—also known as cognitive dissonance—that raises the tension for the learner and encourages her to collaboratively resolve that tension. #tlap
A7: I think the overarching theme of tonight’s chat is to know your kids, feel their energy, and adjust to their daily needs. It always boils down to relationship. #tlap
Brain dump is also a great activity at the very beginning of class to give kids a chance to just get all of their thoughts/internal distractions out of their heads to be fully present. #tlap
A6: thought provoking questions if finishing a chapter in a novel -predictions- how did it make you feel. What are you thinking. Partner talk and share with group and then teacher #tlap
