For the people who arrived in the last 10 minutes.. #ouece Jump over to #nvedchat .. being on time for a twitter chat is super important to get the flow!!!
Let’s start by giving a S/O to another educator(s) using their twitter handle & the hashtag #NVedchat to join us tonight!
Go ahead and tell us about you and perhaps what your favorite part of last week was? #NVedchat#thanks
Kyle in Reno, special education teacher! It was pretty amazing seeing the look on my kids' faces as they saw snow for the first time that was not just on a mountain as we drove by! #nvedchat
Hey @BDicksonNV@SaraHolm15 care to join us tonight?

Heidi an Elementary educator from Las Vegas. Spending time with my family and watching @NevadaHoops and @NevadaFootball Even though the cannon is officially red. #NVedchat
Hi #NVedchat ! My name is Alicia Chavez a student at the university of Oklahoma studying mathematics education. My favorite part about last week was being able to see my family in Chicago (:
Hey #nvedchat.. I’m urbie, an instructional designer (broadcast video is my #reimaginePD schtick) .. based in Arizona you might find me poking around the southwestern United States.
A1: In a conversation about me having a fully grey beard by 40, I thanked a student for saying, "You aren't going to make it, it's turning white, not grey!" It made for a great chuckle, which we all need! #nvedchat
A1 Today! Holding the door open for others, helping to bring in playground equipment, handing me the pen I dropped, making space for someone else in a small group circle... They're a pretty good bunch of kids. #nvedchat
A1-I saw a student last week at a school helping a teacher decorate her classroom for the holidays. Both of us thanked him for helping on his day off from school.
He did say it saved him from doing his chores. #NVedchat
A1: Since I am not a teacher and do not have students that turn in assignments, I do make a point of thanking all of my colleagues as much as possible. It's goes a long way! #NVedchat
A1) I said thank you today. I had a group come in and just want to talk. We spent several mins just talking, something that was needed from all sides #nvedchat
A1- I thank my Ss daily for being awesome, ready to push themselves, & for treating other with kindness. Yes, they are in HS & still love genuine praise. #NVEdChat
A1: I thank my students pretty regularly! I try to fins something they are doing well like modeling good behavior, helping others, or just being great! #nvedchat
R1: one of my Ss helped me create a “gift” for our school foundation donors. I also had Ss stay after school to participate in a club activity. #NVedchat
Q2: When was the last time your boss/supervisor said thanks to you and why did they?
Better question...when was the last time you thanked your boss for anything?
#NVedchat

I am always surprised at how much it means to them; they don’t hear it enough but when they get more appreciation, they give more appreciation. #NVEdChat
A2: My admin thanked me for having a successful parent meeting and listening to the parent, compromising, and owning some of my own mistakes, which diffused the whole situation. #nvedchat
A2-I'm thankful to have a supervisor that I can go to and ask any question...and won't be judged unfairly on it.
Almost everyday I thank my boss for allowing me to bounce ideas, etc...and supporting me as much as they can. #NVedchat#thanks
Q2: When was the last time your boss/supervisor said thanks to you and why did they?
Better question...when was the last time you thanked your boss for anything?
#NVedchat
R2: anytime I talk to my admins, I always try to thank them for their time. They are busy people and usually what I need is minuscule to the other activities taking place in the school. #NVedchat
A2: I make it a point to thank my boss @KDKostrzewski for his support as much as possible. - and now I'm wondering if I thanked him for his support on some calls today. So, here is a public thank you! :) #NVedchat

A1 I thank my students for doing the right thing all the time. They don't earn points or rewards but hopefully they know I appreciate their choices and decisions. and them! #nvedchat
A1: I’m not in the classroom this year but I volunteer 1-2x a mth @MissionHSLV. I’m bringing creative writing via Rebel Writing- a project I started w/@fawnalise and @SNWPEducators. I always thank kids for writing w/me. #NVedchat
A2 thankful my new school has a #culture & climate committee I was able to join, right before break I was able to hear my supervisor thank me for my initiative, & I thanked him for being understanding #teamwork#NVEdChat
A2 My principal @smcneall is EXCELLENT at taking the time to thank us for the work we do and our dedication to our students. @SESCheetahs are lucky to have her! I thanked her today for rescheduling a meeting, but before break for being a supportive educator. #nvedchat
You are absolutely correct!! People enjoy feeling appreciated and when they know it is sincere, they will go above and beyond for you. It helps build a positive culture. #nvedchat
A2 We have a new head of school this year and he's great at showing appreciation for the little things we do. I like to give our staff little thank yous periodically. #nvedchat
A2: my colleagues @NevadaReady have been great to work with. Most recently we launched the Supt. Teacher Advisory Cabinet—months of work on my end and the team and everyone was very proud and thankful for a successful launch. #NVedchat
a2) .. been a bit. but I was talking to the favorite boss at my site and she is the master of this.. They said.. She is best! ITs contagious. #nvedchat
Q2: When was the last time your boss/supervisor said thanks to you and why did they?
Better question...when was the last time you thanked your boss for anything?
#NVedchat
A3-Honestly...probably not, but the reason why we all went into education wasn't for the #thanks or the money....
...it's for the joy of seeing a student's face light up, when they've overcome a challenge, etc...
#NVedchat
A3: I don't think we can EVER thank our teachers enough. I had some amazing teachers that taught me, remarkable teachers that taught my sons and now I work with incredible teachers EVERYDAY! So much to be grateful for! THANK YOU! #NVedchat
A3: We don't, we are the scapegoat 98% of the time, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter to me. Sure, feeling appreciated is nice, but if I wanted a career that was all about that, I would have chosen something else #nvedchat
A3: Yes&No. There are so many supporters/advocates/orgs that are great to teachers, same with colleagues/students/family. The no comes from schools/environments of negative culture. I’ve seen both sides. #nvedchat
A3) most of the time no. But I will say this year I’ve gotten more thank yous than I ever have. But my whole perspective has changed and I’m a different teacher than I was a couple of years ago. #nvedchat
a3) been tough the last few years.. seems that teachers get the blame.. we need to focus on individual cases where we see the difference we make.. politics change but making a connection with kids and families never does. #nvedchat
Q3- Social Media can show Ts in a negative light, which is why my Twitter is filled w awesome educators. In real life, I feel appreciated my Ss, family, community. ❤️ #NVEdChat
A3: I think it is important to show our colleagues and staff appreciation however, it has to be sincere. This is one aspect of schools who have an amazing/positive climate and culture. Thanks comes in many fashions. #nvedchat
A3 Ts do not receive the respect deserved. If you think about how little a teenager thanks their parents, then figure a HS teacher has 200 of those, they are not often grateful, because they do not understand what you are doing until later, they return #grateful#nvedchat
I want to thank all of you who help me get better each week. I have a long way to go before I will be the educator I want to be, but you all help each week. #NVedchat
For anyone that has ever taken time to read my blog at https://t.co/6DoiC7WMic or listened to @BeerEDUPod with my buddy @BDicksonNV and I, the most sincerest of thank yous!
And shameless plug, you can find #beeredupod wherever you listen to podcasts! #nvedchat
This podcast talks about longitudinal research that correlated kindergarten classes to adult earning. I know that teachers can change kids' lives but they don't always come back to say thank you! https://t.co/LpIcD43uFt#nvedchat
A3) it varies. I feel like we might get thanks from our students and colleagues. However, I do not feel as if we get many thanks from those outside of the school world. Some feel as if our job is useless & thus we do not get paid appropriately #justsaying#NVedchat
It’s great when they come back to thank you though. Since that may take awhile if an adult notices you are doing something it’s nice when they speak up. We need to compliment our colleagues. Wish I had time to observe more classes #NVEdchat
Bonus- I am so thankful to my 1st teacher, not in school but in life...my Grandma. She taught me to love reading, the importance of education & prayer, and to look for others that need help. She taught me to be a good human..I hope I can share that with others. #NVEdChat
Thank you for joining tonight’s #NVedchat on #Thanks in Education.
Don't forget to follow the great tweeters from tonight.
See you next week!
By the way...thank you to everyone that participates and helps make #NVedchat what it is.
Thankful for parents that pushed us to find our passion, pursue goals ❤️ my sister @merrydreynolds awesome teacher in California & my brother who is captain in the #army I would not be the person I am today with out my #family#NVEdChat
You know its funny.. i read this thing that you should not apologize but instead say.. Thank you for waiting for me instead of sorry I am late. better response. #nvedchat
A3 #NVedchat@NevadaEdChat From the people that matter most, Ss, parents, and colleagues I consistently get thanks. Who else do we need it from than those we serve?
A3. Thank you to all the principals, educators and tech leaders I've met with these months to create the Fresno Microsoft Educator Community:
Edison HS
Gaston MS
Columbia
Sunnyside HS
Terronez MS
Kings Canyon MS
Easterby
Bakman
#NVedchat
ITs a learning process. the more twitter chats you do.. the better you get at it..
I also sometimes mix them up and will accidently do #oklaed or #appleeduchat instead of #nvedchat its all part of being in the space!! Keep trying..
