The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is starting a new #prinleaderchat every Sunday at 9:00 pm EST. We will be starting this Sunday October 2. Our schedule is listed on this google spreadsheet https://goo.gl/SI9LVo.
A1. It’s important because we all are here to work together, collectively. We need to create a warm, welcoming learning environment in our schools. #PrinLeaderChat
A1: With the ability to connect the current/future workforce and social circles across the globe, our students need to be prepared for it so that they can thrive. #PrinLeaderChat
A1 we live in a day and age where the world is connected instantly through technology. There is no longer an option to be an isolationist nor is it healthy we are to connected forever and that is a good thing! #prinleaderchat
A1: With the ability to connect the current/future workforce and social circles across the globe, our students need to be prepared for it so that they can thrive. #PrinLeaderChat
A1 Political, social, economic and educational decisions need to be based on an understanding of what is best for people of diverse background. #PrinLeaderChat
A1: The world is shrinking. Connections, like this chat, are so beneficial for me to grow. Creating that competence but also understanding is to the benefit for our Ss #PrinLeaderChat
A1: We need to teach our students to connect, appreciate, and empathize with other ideas and cultures because the likelihood of their paths crossing in the future is higher than it has ever been! #prinleaderchat
A1 Political, social, economic and educational decisions need to be based on an understanding of what is best for people of diverse background. #PrinLeaderChat
One of the best programs out there is the @GlobalIssuesNet conference. I’m also a big fan of teaching kids about micro finance and @Kiva#PrinLeaderChat
A1: 8 Ways Teachers Can Fight Hate Not so simple answer: Because racism and hate are running wild and loose in our great nation. The way to fight hate is with education! #PrinLeaderChat@middlwebhttps://t.co/cXFkmFuYfF
I think the technology makes it that much more vital for educators to take this on. We can help steer Ss paths to using technology in a way that promotes global connections. What an asset if intentionally taught! #prinleaderchat
A2 Incorporating other cultures and their traditions can be done in nearly every content area and expo class. It can be done through the novels and stories we read, the art we study the food we cook, the religions and cultures we study the root of concepts #prinleaderchat
We've had 3 events recently at our school... World Hijab Day (founded & led by 4 HHS students), "Ask a Black Girl Day" (founded & led by a club at school) and Celebrate Diversity Day (discussions led by our Minority Achievement Council members.) #PrinLeaderChat
A1 Because we are preparing students for a globel economy where they will regularly engage with diverse cultures via social and multi media #PrinLeaderChat

A2: Quick and easy connections to cultures can be made in every subject with little preparation. We just need to make it a part of the way we do things. Ideas here: https://t.co/aDefZMyHGC#prinleaderchat
Absolutely. As discussed in #InnovatorsMindset we can’t just take away technology if used incorrectly. It’s not going away. Embrace it. Teach with it in mind. But it can’t just be something we toss at Ss and hope they can handle #PrinLeaderChat
A2: Provide students with experiences. Find the diversity throughout your community and bring them in to share information and culture with your students. #prinleaderchat
A2: Prof I once had always counseled, "If you want to change the world, have an ice cream cone with a person of a different culture." The point? Get out of your comfort zone and meet people outside of your usual circle. #PrinLeaderChat
@dellwein says this all the time! “Conversation over consequences I agree! Respect the learners and listen to their side. Don’t assume! #PrinLeaderChat
A1: We live in a world where our students need to be prepared to collaborate with, engage, and accept all cultures! Our globalized society has required that we all have a consciousness for all people and cultures. #PrinLeaderChat
A2: Service Projects such as:
blanket drives, 3D service learning projects that provide glasses or even limb replacement for those who couldn't afford care on their own. #PrinLeaderChat
A3 we must make it a priority for our buildings. We must model its importance and allow students the opportunity to explore other cultures. Also so important to show how similar all cultures are. #prinleaderchat
Q1 In a rural school district, it is important that students understand that we are part of a larger world and there is so much beyond our rural town. #PrinLeaderChat

A3: By showing them the power in social media when used correctly can connect us. Skype in other schools from different countries. Build a partnership with them through writing. @Flipgrid has now opened up that door wide open for classrooms to connect. #PrinLeaderChat

A2: I love this question. I think this is where schools need to reach out to their communities & local resources and invite them to share their experiences & backgrounds with us! There is so much diversity all around us--invite them to be part of our schools! #PrinLeaderChat
A3: Providing opportunities that extend how Ss think and learn about how others live and survive. Ie: political views, learning, religion, life style, etc. #PrinLeaderChat
A2: I love this convo tonight! We do learner interest days and something i would love to do is bring in different cultures to share with our learners! #PrinLeaderChat
A3: Make a point to make an impact and be impacted by what goes on outside of your 4 walls. By modeling a desire to reach beyond, students will naturally engage beyond too. #prinleaderchat

Q3: We can help our students to become more globally aware by creating opportunities for students to connect with other people across the world and putting faces with names #echat#PrinLeaderChat
A4 our social studies teachers do a great job of using current global events to create dialogue on diversity. We also have a teach of teachers that tie character ed lessons into things like diversity and tolerance for a lesson for each grade once s week #prinleaderchat
A3 There are so many opportunities that exist that we dont access because they are not a part of the regular curriculum. Google Earth, Travel videos, documentaries, intractive pen pal partnerships, research project, world culture days, passport activities, etc. #PrinLeaderChat
A3: Consciously teach them! Build it into our curriculum and be intentional! We can't assume that they will learn on their own--we need to prepare them for their futures and offer them opportunities and experiences to learn! #PrinLeaderChat
Q3: As Principals, we need to reach out for opportunities to be more #global ourselves. When we are in a rural area, we have to reach out via Social Media to do this. It's up to us to set a good example for our staff and students. #PrinLeaderChat
A4 Engage the community. There are people in the senior centers and other civic organizations that can bring their knowledge and experiences into our schools. We forget to access the people that we live with and see every day #PrinLeaderChat

I'll forever be invested in the things I love until I die. Education is just one thing I hold dear. #PrinLeaderChat | I miss being connected with awesome administration I will admit.
