A1: I turned off all notifications for my emails, did not open emails and only checked Twitter twice over the break. I also took a week to relax and binge watch @Netflix and @hulu. #TXed
A1. I went on a 7 day cruise with my wife. We missed the #Tinglets (our kids), but the relaxation was needed after an eventful Fall Semester! I feel ready for the Spring! #TXed
Tying #txed funding to student performance on the STAAR test is like telling a hungry child to work harder for something to eat. It's punitive, petty, self-defeating, and small-hearted. We will not accept it. We are better than this. #txlege@Texans4E@TexasAFT@TXParentPAC
A-1 I spent lots of time with my family, dinners, playing board games, and watching movies with them! Feeding my soul for second half of the year. #TXed
A1: had a dark day missing my Mom and attending a funeral. Then, it flipped. I gotta Carpe Diem! Enjoying my life-gift of helping smart, compassionate, + wonderful kids become successful readers. Woo-hoo! #txed
#txed A2 In 2019 I will become a published author. My book "The Story of Always Believe" is in final edit stage. My dream is to inspire an "Always Believe" school where all the classes use #AlwaysBelieve In Yourself as the 1st rule. New journey about to begin. #excited
A2. I took a risk related to my career and moved to Austin. I have always worked in a school district, so joining the team @teainfo was certainly different. I'd like to continue to take risk in my career and not be hesitant to grow. #TXed
A2: Preparing kids for a tech-heavy future: coding, robotics, reading, all three important, and fostering a love for chess w/ students, come on w/ it, critical thinking #TXed
A-2 I want to continue to be positive and motivating for my students and staff and tell Principal Jokes on Friday morning announcements. This has been a hit with students, probably not so much with teachers 😂 #TXed
A3: I like goals- something to aim towards- using the word "yet" is working on goals. I think resolutions implies you are doing or not doing, which is more a failure kind of thinking for me. #txed
A3: I believe a resolution is more of to not do something. I love the word goal, and love setting them! I believe you shouldn’t set one goal a year! This should be something that’s ever changing as we are. #txed
A3: While they are probably the same, I tend to reach more goals than I do holding to resolutions. I think a goal is something you plan out more. A resolution is something you hope for. #txed
A3: To me, a resolution is sort of like vision: goals are more something to put a calendar towards accomplishing w/ measurable steps inside of reaching towards that vision #TXed
Q3:I don’t see a difference in these other than the terminology. Sadly, you hear so many failing at their resolution so soon in the year. 😢 Both of these terms mean you have a positive mindset to change/improve something. 🤗 #TXed
A3 actually talked about today with my students. I think goals are better. They are more forgiving, thoughtful, and seem to give more room for any failure or stumbling. Resolutions seem so....fixed and firm by literal definition. #TXED
Oh yes! I actually just accepted the Community Involvement Committee Co-Director for TALE so I’ll definitely be there. Will be presenting some Digital Monitoring Notebook info too. What about you? #txed
A3: to me, a resolution is a bar that is set. and lots of times you don't make it. But a goal puts me on a path of day by day, I'm going to get there. #txed
A3 I guess I’ve always seen resolutions as changes in pattern and life ... goals are more specific and have an end. So I like the idea of both, but resolutions continue. #txed
A3. I think they are different, but both are important. I have vowed to do/not do things in 2019, and I have also made plans for a few things, with timelines/deadlines (goals). Just my opinion. #TXed
A3: A goal has specific steps that you take to accomplish something. A resolution os a long term goal with and accomplishment at the end. I like to set short term goals to achieve my end result instead of setting just one resolution. #txed
Oh yes! Love that lady! A great literacy leader and motivator. Can’t wait to head back to #icctx with @R13Coaches. Crossing fingers to complete that conference proposal this month too! #txed

A4: we set goals for the new year in class this week. I also have students use a bar graph to keep tract of their test goals throughout the year. They love the challenge! #txed
A4. I think this starts with getting to know our students and having conversations about feasible/attainable goals. We have to make this a priority, build relationships with students, and vow to support them. This is doable for sure! #TXed
A4 Our team sent a simple Google slides out today with a personal, social, and academic goal. Good to revisit and tweek on occasion. Good to model too! #txed@misshkelley@MsPurnellsClass
A4: Students, everyone really, benefits when you have them work with SMART goals. Make it something Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic. Timely. #txed
A4: it's the little steps, frequent checks & edits that make goals attainable. Kids need our support, direction, and modeling of inching toward a goal.
A step forward is a step forward. #txed
Awesome! We need to plan to meet. One of our most requested elementary sessions is Historical Fusions (integrates literacy, social studies, and technology)! #txed
A4 We help our students see they are successful and can do better. They love seeing their goals met and have pride in their hearts. Why not allow students to see this success? #txed
A4: We have to make sure....they know that WE want and expect to see the growth in them! We chart progress and reward growth (not just passing) with House points...which is a great motivator for MS kids! #txed
A4: Teach kids & model for them how to dream big but be reasonable. Some kids can set long-term goals & drive towards them consistently. Others need multiple short-term goals to accomplish first to build momentum towards the long haul #TXed
A4: I love using threshold goals with the help of @lead4ward and @SolutionTree data resources. When students spend time analyzing their performance on assessments for goal-setting and reflection purposes, high levels of learning take place. #txed
A4: Teachers can set class goals and help students set realistic academic goals. Goals can help students take risks. Teachers can encourage students to #failforward in order to accomplish the goals they set. #txed
A-4 All our students have data binders that help them set goals and track their progress. Teachers work with them in monitoring their progress. They share their progress with their parents during student led conferences. #TXed
A4: Help them be specific & define how they’ll know when they’ve reached it. Help motivate & encourage. Show them what our goals are & how we’re going to reach them. Prove we’re real people too. They can help hold US accountable. So often we can learn more from our Ss! ❤️ #TXed
A4: We have to make sure....they know that WE want and expect to see the growth in them! We chart progress and reward growth (not just passing) with House points...which is a great motivator for MS kids! #txed
Made up for lost time with family. Really helped me prioritize my responsibilities. It also reminded me how we serve as parental figures for so many of our students. It also made me realize how much they truly need us. (And how we need them.)#txed#WestAveEs
Continue to put kids first. Sure, my campus doesn’t have the stellar scores everyone wants, but we grow kids with the best of them. We give kids above and beyond what academics can give them. We love on our children and we truly care about who they are. #txed#WestAveEs
A4: I love this Q bc I used to work w/a counselor who helped break this down w/sts.
set a goal, what actual things can you do to reach the goal- a plan to do those things, check back in 2 weeks- if you are making progress, keep it up, if not, make another plan, repeat! #txed
A resolution seems so “terminal or finite.” I’d prefer goals. They can always be adjusted and modified. Once attained, you can set another one. Progress over perfection. #txed#WestAveEs
A4 as a literacy consultant I focus on reading and writing. I think it’s important that each student knows exactly what they’re doing and working towards #txedhttps://t.co/PJ5vuGkmsz
A5: @BarbaraGruener challenged me to find my #oneword for this year. After much reflection I chose #devoted. I want to be 100% #devoted to my family and my school/students. ❤️ #TXed
Constantly talking progress and giving them feedback. “Here’s how you did on today’s assignment. How would you like to improve next time we do something like this? What’s your goal? Talk the “goal” talk. It has to be part of us before it become part of them. #txed#WestAveEs
My #OneWord2019 is Strength. Took time to reflect and let God continue to guide me. Bringing it this year will take my mental and inner strength to drive me to be better and do better for those I serve.
2013 Trust
2014 Prayer
2015 Faith
2016 Balance
2017 Attitude
2018 Present
A5: Bridge: Bridges in relationships to change situations, bridging gaps in education, building bridges across traditional boundaries in education #TXed
I totally agree with this- this is good coach talk! and the adults need to be talking like this too! We just got a Swivl and I am hoping that this tool will become part of our goal setting #txed
A4: I think we need to guide them through the process and model by example-having goals for ourselves and sharing with them our successes and bumps in the way #TXed
love this! It relates to our personal lives, too! I love having dinner at the table with friends or family to really be with them, making that connection over food! #txed
A6: I hope I am able to find time for it all. If I can't find time, then I hope I am able to prioritize to make time for what is truly important: Family and Friends. We need to find time for ourselves, right @pinkpatterson ? #txed
I just sent a letter to my lawmakers asking them to support the 5.4 million school children in Texas public schools. Join me in speaking up - send your own letter today. https://t.co/sdSrWs25Gi
#txed A6 Shooting for the stars... Some principal will read my book, contact me this summer and schedule me to talk to the faculty on how to set up #AlwaysBelieve in Yourself as their first rule. The first ever #AlwaysBelieve school will be established.
We’re Texas, & we’re NOT average, yet, we spend $2,300/student below ntl average.
That’s total of $12 billion/year below average.
Comptroller estimates additional $9 billion in revenue, plus $15 billion Rainy Day fund.
If there’s a will, there’s a way.
#InvestInTxEd#TxEd#TxLege
A6. I hope to be better at balancing life, career, family, etc. I feel blessed in all of them, but at times, I don't feel strong in some of these areas. Balancing everything in 2019 would certainly be an accomplishment and would help me to grow in all areas! #TXed
Texas spends $2,300 less per student below the national average, which equals $69,000 less per year for a classroom of 30 students.
So #TxEd teachers, Imagine if districts had $69,000 more per classroom to invest in your students, what would you do?
#TxLege#InvestInTxEd
To be able to leave our kids better off than when we first got them. To know in my heart of hearts that we made a difference. That we gave it our all and left nothing on the table. #txed#WestAveEs
A6: I want the people that I encounter to know that they matter, and that I am thankful I get to be with them- at school, at home, at volunteer activities, wherever. #txed
A6: I’d have to agree with @etinglesr. He hit it right on with balancing work and home. I want to strive to balance and give my all at the same time.
Hoping my #one word #devoted will get me there! #TXed
You have presided over #txed funding cuts, redistribution of burden to cities, bullying of localities, increases in high stakes testing, SPED cuts, lying about parents, teachers, & students, & enabling the Big Corporate school lobby more than any other TX governor.
Texas must fix school funding this session. We must put Robin Hood school funding on a path of extinction and must pay our best teachers more. https://t.co/cTz3tadW1j via @rockportpilot#txlege
