A1. Cover 3. It's the best fit for our kids. They have the most confidence in it. #425chat
  • CoachBirty Feb 16 @ 9:14 PM EST
A1.) 2-read because it's simplest and allows DBs to play fast #425chat
  • CoachTew Feb 16 @ 9:14 PM EST

    #425chat
    In reply to @dhan561
  • Hernandez2Coach Feb 16 @ 9:17 PM EST
We run either Cover 3 or Quarters 4 .. Simplicity is key w/ us and it allows my boys to have fast reads and play Fast!! #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:17 PM EST
Q2: Do you use split field coverage or you make the one call for the field? And why? #425chat
  • CoachSpegal Feb 16 @ 9:18 PM EST
A1) Depends on the formation but let's say any 2x2 set I run a cov 7, cover 3 to the field and cover 4 to the boundary. #425chat
  • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:19 PM EST
one call for the field, seriously looking to work split field though. Hearing a lot of great things at clinics #425chat
    In reply to @Def425chat
  • CoachBirty Feb 16 @ 9:19 PM EST
Only time we use a split field coverage is to defend trips. Otherwise we keep it same with the whole field. Think fast play fast #425chat
  • thomps_03 Feb 16 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2 we split. Let's players be confident as they start by thinking only about their half of field. Confidence is fast #425chat
  • CoachTew Feb 16 @ 9:20 PM EST
A2: from the bash we will play 4 to field and 2 to boundary. We r a base 3-4 team but will play 4-2-5 on hash and like this concept #425chat
  • CoachJSmith55 Feb 16 @ 9:21 PM EST
I'm really just researching the 425 so I'm not sure what help I'll be. But for those that split, do you set your SS to the field? #425chat
  • CoachSpegal Feb 16 @ 9:21 PM EST
Almost every coverage I run is split coverage. 2 the boundary I love press man. 2 the field zone coverages 2 get more 👀 on the ball #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:21 PM EST
Love the reason behind why y'all do what y'all do! Keep sharing! #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:22 PM EST
I do. UNLESS trips into the boundary.... #425chat
    In reply to @CoachJSmith55
  • CoachJSmith55 Feb 16 @ 9:22 PM EST
Who sets the SS to the field vs numbers? And do you have a way to dictate that? #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:22 PM EST
    #425chat
    In reply to @RoyCash66
  • coachdboucher Feb 16 @ 9:22 PM EST
A2: can do both, depends on the scout, prefer one call, seems to be more flexible vs multiple formations. KISS #425chat
  • CoachJSmith55 Feb 16 @ 9:24 PM EST
Does that weaken you vs the run if they go twins to field and nub to boundary? #425chat
    In reply to @Def425chat
  • Hernandez2Coach Feb 16 @ 9:24 PM EST
@Def425chat we run press bail to boundary! It's my job to confuse the 16-18 kid not the coach ha, I give false reads #425chat

    #425chat
    • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:24 PM EST

    Better late than never! #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:27 PM EST
Q3: Does your coverage call alter the depth/alignment of corners and/or SS? How so? #425chat
  • Hernandez2Coach Feb 16 @ 9:27 PM EST
if my Db's are weak against run I flip them and my Safeties -#425chat
    In reply to @CoachTew, @Def425chat, @CoachJSmith55
  • rmacblue Feb 16 @ 9:28 PM EST
A3:YES. Zone, press man, soft man, robber - all have unique alignments to allow DBs to do what they do. #425chat
  • CoachBirty Feb 16 @ 9:28 PM EST
A3.) not really. We don't want to tip coverage by alignment. We want it all to look the same #425chat
  • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:29 PM EST
    #425chat
    • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:29 PM EST
heard great things about press bail, when are you telly the cb to get out of there? At the snap?
      In reply to @Hernandez2Coach, @Def425chat, @CoachSpegal
  • CoachTew Feb 16 @ 9:29 PM EST
A3: we try not to very look at all but we do make minor adjustments to allow us to play with proper leverage and technique #425chat
  • CoachHays13 Feb 16 @ 9:29 PM EST
A1: 1 man, followed by match quarters #425chat
  • CoachBirty Feb 16 @ 9:30 PM EST
A3.) cont. usually start corners at 7 off at the summer time and move them up as they get more comfortable #425chat
  • thomps_03 Feb 16 @ 9:30 PM EST
A3 I like to keep everything looking the same but need to do a better job at this. #425chat
  • Skillutt28 Feb 16 @ 9:30 PM EST
A3. We try to disguise our coverages. Keep the Q guessing what we are in. #425chat
  • CoachHays13 Feb 16 @ 9:31 PM EST
A3: yes, If we are matching we gotta give space if we are man I want them to feel uncomfortable #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:32 PM EST
    #425chat
    In reply to @coach_ferg25
  • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:32 PM EST
considering adding it to my tool box of quarters coverages. Thanks #425chat
    In reply to @Hernandez2Coach, @Def425chat, @CoachSpegal
  • coachdboucher Feb 16 @ 9:32 PM EST
Dont want to, stem from our base, hide what we are trying do, can call "bump" and adjust depending on situation or scout. #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:32 PM EST
    #425chat
    • RoyCash66 Feb 16 @ 9:32 PM EST
we will call the strength to TE. Olb will squeeze down. We will usually make an adjustment to twins w/wlb
      In reply to @CoachJSmith55, @Def425chat
  • CoachSpegal Feb 16 @ 9:33 PM EST
I would agree, my experienced dbs I let them have freedom. My young one's I say @ the snap #425chat
    In reply to @Hernandez2Coach, @dhan561, @Def425chat
  • CoachHays13 Feb 16 @ 9:33 PM EST
A2: Yes but it's built into the system depending on stunt and front, typically we are zone one side and match or lock man other. #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:35 PM EST
    #425chat
    In reply to @CoachJSmith55, @RoyCash66
  • Coach_HughesDB Feb 16 @ 9:35 PM EST
A1) 4-3 Front Bae out of 2 Read and Qrts #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:37 PM EST
Q4: If split field coverage team, how much control do the athletes have over the calls on the field based on what they see? #425chat
  • CoachHays13 Feb 16 @ 9:37 PM EST
A2: Even if man across the board we may be reading one side (usually boundary) and locking wider side is spacing is good #425chat
  • rmacblue Feb 16 @ 9:38 PM EST
    100% #425chat
    In reply to @Def425chat
  • Coach_HughesDB Feb 16 @ 9:38 PM EST
A2) Use both. 1 call for both sides and the we can also tag calls for the weak side. #425chat
  • CoachHays13 Feb 16 @ 9:38 PM EST
A4: spacing tells it all they are making zoro (zone it) combo (read it) or solo (lock it) calls and signals based on checks. #425chat
  • thomps_03 Feb 16 @ 9:40 PM EST
A4 we start out pretty toght on coach call but the read side lends itself for some player calls depending on width or wrs, nub, etc #425chat
  • coachdboucher Feb 16 @ 9:40 PM EST
A4: when we run split, the FS has complete control based on the scout and our rules, to call strength and set coverage. #425chat
  • CoachBirty Feb 16 @ 9:40 PM EST
A4.) that's exactly what the varsity is trying to do this year. Allow kids to be able to make the call themselves due to no huddle #425chat
  • CoachSpegal Feb 16 @ 9:40 PM EST
Q4) if I have veteran $'s I let them make coverage checks. If not I will signal in the check from the sideline. #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:42 PM EST
Q5: What dictates the coverage call? Formation? Game plan? Etc...? #425chat
  • Coach_HughesDB Feb 16 @ 9:42 PM EST
A4). DBs always have the right to make calls based on split and formation. Teach these looks during the week so they become habit #425chat
  • CoachBirty Feb 16 @ 9:43 PM EST
    A5.) almost always formation #425chat
  • Skillutt28 Feb 16 @ 9:45 PM EST
A5. Formation & what we are trying to take away each week. #425chat
  • thomps_03 Feb 16 @ 9:46 PM EST
A5 formation almost 100%, gameplan special situations #425chat
  • NotSpelledSean Feb 16 @ 9:46 PM EST
A5) Game plan and formation. Knowing they run certain plays out of a set. Who do we want to stop? What's the down & distance #425chat
  • coachdboucher Feb 16 @ 9:47 PM EST
A5: traditional formation or scout for boundary/field. If anyone has suggestions for setting off of QB dominant arm, I'm all ears #425chat
  • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:47 PM EST
we give a man or zone concept call from the sideline, kids determine which coverage based off of formation and tendency #425chat
    In reply to @Def425chat
  • Coach_HughesDB Feb 16 @ 9:48 PM EST
A5) Coach calls Coverage.. DBs have checks within each coverage they can check when they see formation, strength etc... #425chat
  • Hernandez2Coach Feb 16 @ 9:49 PM EST
How has that treated you coach!? Allow the boys to make calls? #425chat
    In reply to @dhan561, @Def425chat
  • CoachHays13 Feb 16 @ 9:49 PM EST
A5: called out of base, formation/ personnel can dictate a check on the back end. There are certain formation that are auto's #425chat
  • CoachSpegal Feb 16 @ 9:49 PM EST
    A5) usually a mixture of formation, split, game plan, & D&D #425chat
  • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:52 PM EST
it's all done off of gameplan. We control it, we dictate zone or man. Gives the kids some ownership #425chat
    In reply to @Hernandez2Coach, @Def425chat
  • dhan561 Feb 16 @ 9:53 PM EST
helped a lot v. No huddle teams. Also forces better communication, I'm a devoted believer in it #425chat
    In reply to @Hernandez2Coach, @Def425chat
  • The_Coach_A Feb 16 @ 9:53 PM EST
You must have a base (for instance 4-Read). Then teach them split rules. Stack/cluster = check to 2 Read. Wide/1st down = stay in 4 #425chat
    • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:37 PM EST
Q4: If split field coverage team, how much control do the athletes have over the calls on the field based on what they see? #425chat
  • Def425chat - Moderator Feb 16 @ 9:54 PM EST
Thank y'all for joining us tonight! Join us next week! #425chat
  • The_Coach_A Feb 16 @ 9:54 PM EST
D&D 1st, tendency 2nd, but splits of the WRs always overrules any base call. #425chat
  • The_Coach_A Feb 16 @ 9:57 PM EST
    CBs: 4-Read = 6yds/open stance slide. 2-Read = 5yds/closed stance feather Saf: 4-Read = 10yds/step-off. 2-Read = 12yds/bail #425chat
  • The_Coach_A Feb 16 @ 9:59 PM EST
Split field so the coverage matches the WR splits. Stack/cluster = 2-Read Base/1st Down = 4-Read. Allows the DBs to self-adjust. #425chat
