Tom Blazer OL/ST Coor Cypress HS. I’m feeling fiesty tonight. So I present “How to piss off #hogfbchat 101:”
1: Power is overrated.
2: The Single Wing as a sole offensive scheme sucks.
3: Ladders don’t do anything for OL.
4: 5 man sleds do even less.
@ me.
Nick Stromeyer. Offensive line coach, social media dude, and now soccer coach at Allen Academy. Been looking forward to this all day. Howdy everybody! #HOGFBCHAT

I need some ideas for implementing a quick and efficient grading system for OL and TE’s using Hudl. Want results for players by Monday’s of the next week. #hogfbchat
A1: JV squad of about 27 players, many of which were freshmen or first-year tackle football players. Steady improvement, ending w/ only 1 loss in league. Most importantly, no major injuries & kids had FUN playing the greatest game on Earth. #hogfbchat
Q1: Finished 2nd in conference going 8-1 lost in 2nd round of IHSA Class 2A playoffs 31-35. 3rd season in a row going 9-2. Cant break the 2nd round playoff curse! #HOGFBCHAT
A1: We went 4-6 in Sr High. Had some close losses with a very young team. Jr High went undefeated and won conference for the 2nd year in a row. #Hogfbchat
A1. 7-5 won our side of Conference. Lost our crossover game to finish 2nd overall. Saw some really good things and ended up playing for a sectional championship for first time in 10 years #Hogfbchat
A1: 7-4 record
Tied for 3rd place in league [picked to finish last in preseason]
Bounced from playoffs in first round
Avg just under 180 rush ypg
QB and RB both named to 1st team all league!
Pretty good season for a group of OL with only one previous varsity start! #Hogfbchat
A1: 6-0 pre-district start. 6-4 finish. Averaged 317 rushing yards per game. Disappointed with the finish but ready to put the work in to do better next year. #hogfbchat
A1: quiet...didn’t coach this year! Looking forward to instructing at the @CFi_OLSelect development camps this winter, helping young men develop their craft #hogfbchat
A1: returned to playoffs after year absence. Had young line, but they performed better than expected. Tough kids and resilient. Kept schemes simple and guys got it and played hard every play. Guys earned Steaks & Cakes dinner. Had all-region LT as a Junior. #hogfbchat
A1: we ended the year 5-5 and kids fought hard the entire season! We played 9 different offensive line lineups this year so I’m very interested to see what I can learn from #HOGFBCHAT this year!
A1) First season with class 2A Clear Lake (IA) and we went 7-2. Lost to a solid Class 3 school and dropped another to the eventual district champion. Despite being ranked 6th in the state the new @IHSAA playoff system didn’t do us any favors and we were left out. 👎 #hogfbchat
A1. Had a down year but learned a lot. Next man up is a great philosophy when someone gets hurt but doesn’t always work out. Had to convert 2 receivers to O Line but they gave it all they had. #hogfbchat
A1: Made progress, Year 1 we went 0-9 scored 3 TD’s all season, Year 2 we finished 3-6 scored 31 TD’s and finished 7th in class 2A in rushing. Really looking forward to year 3! #hogfbchat
A1: I took time off from football! We moved closer to family, got new jobs, and I just “consulted” with a local team. Got to break film down and hold an iPad on Friday night to watch Hudl Sideline. It was nice to take a step back. #Hogfbchat
A1: First season as a college coach on a great staff! Had a lot of unfortunate bounces and some key injuries, but we are gonna reload and come back stronger than ever! #hogfbchat#VGOH
A1: went 3-6. OL came on strong towards the end of the season and in week 9 allowing our RB to post up an impressive 371 yards rushing. #FISTfootball#HogFbChat
A1) had a high quality group of players.
OL tried hard and were coachable. Ran inside zone well majority of year. Pass pro was great!
Lots of room for improvement with players and myself.
#Hogfbchat
A1: Tremendous growth from Jamboree to End of the season. Probably the most efficient we’ve been in our offensive system. Lots of drills translated to the field.
#HOGFBCHAT
Most wins since 99, first playoff wins since 99. Ran for 3300yds at 5.53ypc. Had a tackle register 50 Pancakes. Lost in the Regional Championship game to a team who beat us in regular season too. Good year but still so much room for improvement #HogFbChat
A1: I went to a new school this year. We moved up from 5A to 6A-II. We had 12 Seniors. Very young. Pulled a few freshmen to varsity. On the OL we had One Senior and Junior and 3 Sophomores and two of the Sophomores never played a snap. They did well and proud of em! #hogfbchat
A1.) year 2. 4-7 record. 1-9 last year. Pre Season ranked 342 out of 342. Secondary bad 11 INT’s (10 by 2 freshman). Losing 4 starters on Offense. 1 is the center. #HOGFBCHAT
A1: We were young on both sides of the ball. We playe in what is essentially the toughest 5A district in TX. We competed and lost some close ones to some damn good teams. Glad that we started our offseason training today and look forward to next year. #hogfbchat
First year not coaching varsity in 10 years as teacher/coach. Learned a lot about myself and what I love. Teaching OL is on that list of things I love and need in my life. #Hogfbchat
A1: Musical chairs with sophomores/inexperienced jrs & a wr turned Qb. Somehow played for a league championship and lost first round of playoffs. Lots of bumps along the way but the young men are great people. Plenty of room for growth. #hogfbchat
A1: We installed a new offense-Flexbone Triple Option under a new HFC and made great progress this season. Started off slow with some tough losses then really hit our stride with the offense mid-season to win 4 straight and make the playoffs #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#hogfbchat
A1: First year not coaching varsity in 10 years as teacher/coach. Learned a lot about myself and what I love. Teaching OL is on that list of things I love and need in my life. #Hogfbchat
A1 Cont’ We finished 2-8 on the season. Very excited to see how we progress in the offseason. Love our school and our community and we will build something great there. Got to get the pups to buy in the weight room and doing the little things right! #HogFbChat
A1: 5-5 season record, made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs, fought through injuries, multiple personnel shifts, and Hurricane Michael to go as far as we did and get better every week #hogfbchat
A1: Only 1 returning OL with varsity experience. Lost who would’ve probably been our best lineman for the year right before the season. 2 freshmen end up starting, highest strength of schedule rating in state. Started 0-3 ☠️ then won 8 in a row. 4000+ yards of offense. #hogfbchat
A1: finished 5-6 in a great conference. Top 2 RBs we’re Sophomores with a experienced OL. Undersized but great kids! RBs averaged 4.7 and 5.9 yards a carry. #Hogfbchat
A1: finished 4-7, new coaching staff in place, fought a lot of battles outside of the game of football. Kids played hard week in and week out. We had our chances in the games we lost. We set a good foundation that we will, without a doubt, build on this off season! #hogfbchat
A1: 12-1 Region Championship, lost in quarters to defending State Champs who are ranked in top 50 in America as a part of a brand new staff. #Hogfbchat
A1 went 11-2 lost in the state semis to neighborhood rival. Amazing year learned a lot about football and myself excited to continue to grow as a coach #HOGFBCHAT
A1: 1st round playoff victory. Lost in Regional Championship game. Finished 6-4. Injury bug hit our skill positions on O and LBs on D. Was rough at times but our guys showed tremendous grit. Love our guys. #hogfbchat
Had a great season. A lot of people said we wouldn't finish the season because of low numbers. We finished second in district and went to the playoffs. Losing only 1 senior. A lot of talent returning next season #HOGFBCHAT
A1. 0-10. First year program with Freshmen thru Juniors. Tough kids and lots of close games. Establishing culture and building the foundation. #HOGFBCHAT
A1. Went 11-2. Solid year but short of our 🏆 goal. Team that beat us plays for it this week. Great staff of coaches and a great group of kids ultimate made for a great ride! Patchwork OL this year with very little experience together came together and made it fun! #hogfbchat
A1: Getting better everyday! Finished 4-6, lost a couple of close games and made the jump to Missouri Class 6. Kids are buying into the weightroom, and are having success at the lower levels. Very excited about what's being built everyday.
#Hogfbchat
A1: It was a historic year for our team: 1) 9-3 record finishing 2nd in the MIC for the first time in school history.
2) Won the sectional championship for the first time in 25 years.
The credit goes to our players they were coachable and brought it everyday. #HogFbChat
A1 cont: forgot to mention I have 4 out of 5 coming back. LT is 6’4” and 250, legit D1 talent but needs weight. 6’3 260 soph (he’s my 3 year starter), 5’10” 215 center, and my RT is 6’1” 240. #hogfbchat
A1: went 3-6. OL came on strong towards the end of the season and in week 9 allowing our RB to post up an impressive 371 yards rushing. #FISTfootball#HogFbChat
A1 1st yr OC and oline coach at a program that went 0-10 last year to 6-5 including a playoff appearance.. we had great kids and admin and community in place that came together and believed in what we wanted to do #Hogfbchat
A1: 6-4 improved from 4-6. Needed one more W to make playoffs couldn't quite get it done. Scored 9 more ppg. Cut giveaways in half and only gave up one sack all season. Granted we threw it 95 times total but I'll take it lol #hogfbchat
A1: Great group of kids, improved every week. An amazing, senior-led, TEAM that exceeded all expectations and finished it off with a State Championship. So fun to coach them and be around them everyday. #hogfbchat
A1: rough year, finished at 1-9. Were tied or within TD in 7 of 9 losses in 3rd quarter, but lost 5 if 7 by 21+ pts. Had 3 sophs starting on OL - a solid core returning. And switching from spread option to Shotgun Wing-T. Joining the fraternity #hogfbchat#nextseasonstartsNOW
A1: Started a bunch of young kids. Went 0fer, bunch set the foundation to do great things in the future. That said, going 0fer ain’t much fun. 😅 #hogfbchat
Well was hoping to participate tonight but my 2 year old just hit my 6 month old in the head with a baseball sooooo I’m dealing with that and I have to bow out lol #Hogfbchat
First year coaching HS ball at Allderdice, HS in Pittsburgh. Won Pittsburgh city league championship and got to play in a state playoff game for the first time in a while. Graduating 4/5 of our starting OL so lots of offseason development it’s in the cards up front #hogfbchat
A1 continued: it was amazing to watch our young OL grow up through the fire they were put thru. Every1 in our community was panicking after 0-3 start & the OL clearly struggling. No way you can watch film from those 3 games & compare to end & convince me the same guys. #hogfbchat
A2: my wife and I teaching OL to slow dance during Thursday practice the 2nd week of playoffs. Partnered them up and got them ready for Fall Ball Dance. #Hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat First year as a head coach. Started 0-3 turned it around and finished 5-4. Conference champ and qualified for the playoffs. School records for total yards and rush yards in a season and points scored. first playoff win in 30 years in our grasp just couldn't close it
A2: We got progressively better throughout the season, including finding our groove by the end of the year & being able to effectively run the ball on most teams. Seeing players work TOGETHER, communicating without prompting, establishing dominance. #hogfbchat
Our game in week 10 against our rivals Courtland. We lost but we brought some pride back to the game and held our own up front. It was good to see my guys not back down mentally #HogFbChat
A2: OL led the team to 253 yards rushing vs. Our cross-town rival and secured not only the win, but wrapped up the city title for the first time in 4 years! #Pumapride#Hogfbchat
A2: tough call. Week 9 they DOMINATED. Week 7 they really started to find their identity. Week 3 they went up against a state powerhouse and played well. There were many. #hogfbchat#RocketUp#FISTfootball
A2: We are a spread team. This year we put in “Big Boys” formation and put a linemen in the backfield. He had 4 or 5 TDs and our O-Line loved the name of the formation! Some guys even mad they weren’t on it! #Hogfbchat
A2: Two weeks before the first game I moved one of our freshman Wide Receivers to Offensive Guard. By mid season he was starting on the Jv team grading out near the top. Btw he was 175 pounds #CutEveryPlay#hogfbchat
A2: Easily breaking a school record in rushing yards in one game with 524 yards in our first conference game of the season! Ran a lot of buck sweep that night! #HOGFBCHAT
A2: I have 2. One was when our TE moved to LG for a game and asked to stay there permanently afterwards. Another was when we rushed for around 500 yds and had ZERO pass attempts during a big conference win. Very proud OL coach both times #Hogfbchat
A2: Probably a couple of moments added together but we really came together as a group as the season wore on. Played 3 underclassmen up front consistently all season, w/ a couple of awesome seniors leading the way. Great Unit #hogfbchat
A2: The Return of the Run Game. Dominated some games up front and established we could be a dominant run team. Ran a little single wing as a Change up and drove DLs 10+ yards down field on wedge a few times. Thing of beauty. #hogfbchat
A2- Rushed for almost 400 yards in a game against a team that made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. We became a run heavy team this year after only running the ball about 15 times a game the last 2 years. #hogfbchat
A2. We had a game where it all finally seemed to click. Guys were feeding off each other and playing with an urgency to dominate the DLine and LBs #hogfbchat
Q2: As a RB/TE group our best game was one where we ran for 400 yards in a game with 3 guys with nearly 100 yds each. OL/TE dominate and my guys found the holes.#hogfbchat
A2 Watching the offense control the ball against a team we were thought of as “heavy underdogs” against. QB had holes a mac truck could drive through. Any time it is was 3rd & short they stepped up and made huge holes. It was impressive to watch #HOGFBCHAT#BallControl
A1 - Went through a lot of adversity early on in the season. It led us into region ball playing really well. Lost early in the playoffs, will be having player evaluations this week prepping for next year. Next year, starts today. #HOGFBCHAT
A2: I didnt work with the OL really, but the team I worked with struggled at the beginning of the year upfront but they stepped and finished strong. Also, young guys stepped up and filled spots when injuries hit #Hogfbchat
A2- Took the boys to one of fallen brothers grave every week before our games, but after our homecoming game (week 8) we went at night and sat talked about the game with him. Big moment for us to grow as a group. Played better football from then on. #hogfbchat
A2) Players bought into what I was coaching. We got better as a unit as the season progressed and looked better each game. Had 1 guy who wouldn’t buy in for 5 weeks then turned it around and ended up being a good player for us the last 5 games! #hogfbchat
A2: watching some former players succeed at the next level! One was converted from T to Hback and started every game at Queens U, another started 7 at RT for U of Ottawa until he was injured. Proud of these guys! #hogfbchat
A2: installed a new, zone based offense. Got better every week, and eventually started running the ball pretty well. Watching a bunch of sophomores break the will of 3 all conference DL that outweigh us by 50 pounds was reassuring in a tough year. #hogfbchat
A2: I would say great moments. We had a bit of a short yardage problem the previous season. Played with better leg drive and pad leverage in some big moments this season.
#HogFbChat
A1: An amazing year. A great group of kids, senior-led, and improved every week, finished it off with a State Championship win! So fun to be around them every day. #hogfbchat
A2: First Week of Districts. Our guys were ready. They played very well. The game was played in a monsoon! But our guys embraced the challenge and opened some holes for our running game. That’s when we started to gel as a unit! We got our first win. The GoonSquad! #hogfbchat
A2: We only had 1 returner with varsity experience. We had some rough patches along the way but once we gelled as a group, we were pretty damn good, especially in the run game. Our primary RB ran for almost 1000 in district play alone. #hogfbchat
A2: so many at the freshman level. These kids worked their tails off. My freshman center had a hard time snapping about 4 or 5 weeks in. Everything went south at once. He was shifted to tackle, complained once then got right back to work. I love the attitude. #Hogfbchat
A2: got down to our third team Strong guard, never fell off or missed a beat. Helps to have depth! However you gotta make sure that depth is ready to go when needed. #HOGFBCHAT
A2: about game 3 we had a big moment where starting positions were open to all and ended up starting 3 new guys and they played their guts out the rest of the year. #Hogfbchat
A2: A 4th quarter scoring driving that we went up 12-6 on Homecoming to begin our 4 game win streak to make the playoffs. That drive really set the tone for those next 3 games. #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#hogfbchat
A1: went 5-6, we had a 5 game winning streak for first time in over a decade. We had highest region finish in over a decade (2nd) hosted first playoff game in over a decade. We played for a region title. We won games nobody thought we would. We got better #hogfbchat
A2: 4th &1 at 50 in 4th qtr up a score. Back & forth game call TO kids come over tell me, "we're running 3"(power)...50 yd untouched td. First league win in 2 years. #Hogfbchat
A2. Watching a group of individuals come together and play as a unit as the year went on. Every OL coach has experienced it, but that feeling never stops being great. #HOGFBCHAT
A2: Becoming a good rushing team this year, continuing to work hard and get that last win, even though we were 0-9 at that point. It was also great to see some younger guys step up and play well. #Hogfbchat
A2: lost 4 starters as the year progressed. Had over 600 yards rushing in last 2 regular season games to clinch playoff spot. Who says 4wide teams can't run? Had two sophs starting at end. One was JV to start year. One moved from DL.
#Hogfbchat
A2) This was the first senior@class to have our head coach all 4 years. Offense is established and getting better each year. This year we hit full stride. We had more than a few 250-300+ rushing performances but that’s just the cherry on top. #hogfbchat 1/2
A2) cont…What I was really most proud of was having a group of guys willing to take accountability not only of themselves but as a group. Our communication improved tremendously and I watched a group of young men embrace becoming true students of the game. #hogfbchat 2/2
A2)
Tied a team we lost to by 70+ in the offseason.
Off-field - seeing players actually take to heart some life skills/lessons I tried teaching. #Hogfbchat
A2: Having a couple of running backs join them. One at the start of the season and one late. They brought those guys in as brothers and fought hard with them to make it work. It made all of our captains linemen at the end of the season. #brotherhood#hogfbchat
A2: when my sophomore LT who struggled with basics and lacked confidence at the beginning of the season went to our OC at halftime of one of our last games and told him to just keep running behind him because he’ll get the job done. #hogfbchat
A2: Listening to our OL want to call certain plays down the stretch when it mattered most. Wanted it on their shoulders. #ownership#leadersupfront#hogfbchat
Shallow numbers. Found ourselves scrambling to put together a line. Lot of young guys stepped up without flinching. Not to mention senior RB gave up his number and volunteered to be my tackle. Ended up starting the rest of the year. #HogFbChat
A2. Had a brutal schedule this year but our guys never quit up front. Had since guys step up big time and play hard. No one missed a game w injury and 5 of 7 guys who played a lot are back next season. #Hogfbchat
A2: Seeing the light bulbs go on in their faces as we started to teach @OLPerformance Drive/Catch method. Major shoutouts to @Warhogs56 for taking me under his wing and showing a rookie the ropes. & @ChrisWard6275 for making a cameo as our “Gallop Tech Guru” #hogfbchat
In reply to
@CoachShiffman, @OLPerformance, @Warhogs56, @ChrisWard6275
A2: Fun moment: relentless effort to claw back from being down 3 possessions in the 4th against a rival and win.
Fun stat: 65 plays that were 20 yards or greater (extra conditioning for the OL) #Hogfbchat
A2: We had four underclassmen, including a sophomore right tackle play almost every snap this year and didn’t do half bad, favorite moment: had a senior go out with a shoulder injury early in the season and got to come back and play the last couple of games #Hogfbchat
Went wire to wire with a great team that is still undefeated at this point in the playoffs (11-0) . Came down to the trenches. Lost the game but I felt like our O line grew as a unit that night and really fought and found their grit. Played well the rest of the season. #hogfbchat
A2: in our homecoming game we rushed for almost 500 yards and had 3 backs go over 100 yards. It was a team effort and our O-Line did a great job of paving the way for our backs! They imposed their will! Really proud of them. #Hogfbchat
A1: 0-11. First year at a different school, and my 3rd year overall as a Head Coach. I am accountable for everything, and have already turned my focus to preparing for next season. “Doesn’t matter. Get Better!” #hogfbchat
A2: just all year we have an undersized group Av 207 lbs a couple games and they competed their tails off all year against D-1 DL in a tough conference of big schools. Love those kids! #Hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat over 500 rushing yards in game 2 games over 400 yards, over 3000 rushing yards in a season. Two 1000 yards rushers in a season. 44 rushing touchdowns this season. Best moment conf championship and playoffson the line 50 seconds left and our rb walks in to win the game.
A2 - As a unit we started having devotion early in the season. For some reason or another we had to cancel a few weeks in a row in the middle of the season. One of the best memories is my players asking when we were going to do it again. It’s not always about football. #hogfbchat
A1. Went from 0-10. To one win. (Honestly felt like we let two slip away) First year program, and I was hired in late July! Tough district but with time and some new faces next year Hopefully the culture will take shape. Establishing culture &building the foundation. #HOGFBCHAT
Our schedule was brutal too... two teams from our region in the final four... three in the quarterfinals...
‼️BUT‼️ that’s motivation, coach! #HOGFBCHAT
A2: Great moment for our team and OL, beating our biggest area rival for the first time in 13 years, rushing for 250+ yds when we had been inconsistent all year in the run game. Did it without our 1st all district back... played with a JV move up. Did it behind them! #hogfbchat
A2: having more rushing yards than passing yards for probably the first time in school’s history (only been around since 2006). We still threw for 2200, but I told the team before the season that I wanted us to become the identity as a run-first SMASHMOUTH spread team #HOGFBCHAT
A2: Our 2nd game we went for 250+ and 4 scores on the ground and awarded our OL the "toolbelt" for players of the game and asked the guys to add something to it. They came back with professionally made business cards that said "Sun Prairie Moving Company." #hogfbchat
A2: we several moments where I was extremely proud, I would say the “highlight” was beating two opponents who our school had never beaten before. Big culture wins for our guys #hogfbchat
A1: how our young guys stepped up, not just playing Varsity as Sophomores, but really embracing process of putting in work; off-the-field: seeing 2 grade-ineligible guys from prev. year both carry 3.0+ grades throughout season. #Hogfbchat
A2: Short handed week 2, face tough momentum swings right at half time. Recover fumble 3rd play of second half. OL calls for Power. We run power concept 5/6 plays and on 2 pt conversion to tie game. On TD and 2 pt conversion, C and G pancaked their guy in the endzone. #hogfbchat
A2. Easy! 4 Sophomores starting and faced adversity each week. They all stepped up and moved around to give us the best 5 upfront. Allowed us to have a near 1,000 running back. #HogFbChat
A3: Alot of unfortunate injuries, they were warriors though and fought through it. Even had to have a couple of my DLine guys flip sides to help them out. Linemen=Team Guys #hogfbchat
A3. Mainting blocks at the second level and tackles opening up too soon on pass protection. Progressed as the year went on, but not where we need to be. #HOGFBCHAT
A3 we were not very deep and had a few guys go down, but preached the next man up mentality from day one and ended up starting a freshman in the playoffs against the #2 team In state #Hogfbchat
A1: Wagoner Bulldogs, Wagoner, OK - Finished up 10-2, lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs. 7th Straight District Title year. Not how we wanted or expected to finish but still proud of our guys.
#hogfbchat
A3)
Numbers. Only had 6 OL on team and 1 healthy RB.
Playoff game had to go to wildcat and put our RB at left tackle
Luckily, RB got a ton of line blocking technique and scheme as we didn’t have RB only coach.
Plus RB was great team player! #Hogfbchat
A4: Learning and making the various adjustments when blocking in a triple option offense. Also the physicality it takes to get this offense running at an elite level. #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#hogfbchat
A3: They struggled to understand and translate simple technique that (translating boards and steps to the game). Consistently saw a poor first step get us in a bad situation #Hogfbchat
A3: MOVING PEOPLE. Thinking about changing from two point stances to three point stances though I don’t know how that will affect our pulls and pass blocking. We need to get more physical upfront if we want to get past 2nd round. #Hogfbchat
Q3: What was the most difficult for your OL: my guys had to learn to work w/ intensity in practice and develop a nasty mindset. Know how to be pushed and not take it personal! No where close yet! That and the loss of a Senior LT who was a heart beat for the group hurt. #hogfbchat
A2: Our best moment as an OL was finding kids who stepped and wanted to play. All were 1st year varsity starters (2 Seniors: 1 who played JV and the other DL, 2 juniors and a freshman). Gained confidence throughout the season and finished with pride! #hogfbchat
A3: Depth was a serious issue for us as our five starters then turned around and started on defense too. No excuses though, gotta get better. #hogfbchat
A3- We have been primarily an inside zone team the last two years. I wanted to run more dart scheme. Problem was it ended up being too complicated for some of our new lineman with the rules we put in. After switching back to zone we were more effective. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: Picking up the blitz. Freshman tend to focus on their assignments and lose sight of blitz’s gotta keep you eyes open and head on a swivel. #Hogfbchat
A3. We had a ton of injuries. We started 9 different guys as the season went. Making calls and communicating was a struggle for us when we got a look we weren’t expecting. #hogfbchat
A3: Constant revolving door due to injuries. Several OL also ended up contributing on defense towards the end of the year. Couldn't be more proud of my group for always being ready to step in and do whatever we needed them to do! #Hogfbchat
Both schools in Culpeper County 😂😂😂. They play hard, fast, physical and disciplined defense out there. Some great coaching staffs out there and their kids play all out for them. #HogFbChat
A3: the school I worked with is by far the smallest school in the league and definitely did not have the same size as the other schools. It was difficult to move the ball at times. Also, early part of season was a struggle with inconsistency. #Hogfbchat
A2 many great moments... I'd say dominating the LOS in the first game after being called out by one of the opposing team lbers, or the 99 yard drive for the go ahead score in the last game of the reg season #Hogfbchat
Q3) That started back in May. Our HC brought in a new staff and my guys had to “learn” how to play OL the way I wanted. It was a process but I enjoyed every step. #hogfbchat
A3: losing 4 starters. Lost LT after week 3 to knee, SR who we thought MIGHT be a serviceable backup started at 3 different positions then tore his knee up. Moved a sophomore DE to G and got him ready to start on Friday.
#Hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat another great moment was how they rallied around the new guys at the end of the season. Had to start my strong safety at tackle in week 9. Had never played line. Also had a soph and a junior on r. Side who hadn't played line all year start in the playoffs.
A3- I don’t know if this is really difficult, but adjusting to how officials call games was our most difficult part. We had a lot of penalities that were called one week and not another or vice versa. We adjusted on the fly and took our anger out on DL. #hogfbchat
Finished 3-6 at the varsity level, lost a lot of close games 4 of the 6 teams in the district were top 10 all year, my first year as HC with the freshman finished 6-2! #HOGFBCHAT
A3: Just strength. We have to get stronger in the weight room. We need to be gym rats and we got to get more physical. Toughen up. Also ankle and knee injuries... We got to turn up the heat and bring more energy... #Hogfbchat
A3: Had a couple games at the end where we were very thin depth wise and were outsized by a bunch but still brought the fight. Tough injuries for some warriors at the end of the year. #hogfbchat
A3: I felt like one of our biggest issues all season was the inability to use our hands effectively keep leverage and finishing blocks. All are things that will be worked on in the offseason...DMGB
#Hogfbchat
A3: We were pretty young. Lots of sophmores and Juniors. The inexperience showed itself at times, especially early in the season.Ifelt we were pretty consistent all year, but we still have a lot of room for improvement. #Hogfbchat
A3: for some reason our backs and our OL has difficulty getting our protections down. They’re not difficult, but are able to pick up anything thrown at us. But all 6 protectors need to be in the same page and that didn’t happen. #hogfbchat
A3: Getting them to understand a passive aggressive mindset in pass pro. Interior 3 were 1st year starters and everything was a run play for them. Gave up some self inflicted pressures.
#Hogfbchat
A3 played the defending state champs in the first round of the playoffs. They disguised their blitzes well and it gave us some trouble. Now we know what to work on and can learn from it #HOGFBCHAT
A3: Motivating young athletes to be a part of the best group on the field when every other influence in their life says skills guys get all the love. "Look at me" messages are spread all over & discourage young players from falling in love with OL. #hogfbchat
A3: 1st year w/the Wing T, our best opponents were early in our schedule. We played one of the best def. minded HC's in the area who blitzed from every direction. There was much confusion. I think we had 5-6 plays where we didn't even block the nose due to chasing LBS #hogfbchat
A3: injuries and youth. Started 10 different lineman, and don’t think we had the same 5 in the same place in more than 2 games. Lots of experience and knowledge gained, players and coaches. #Hogfbchat
A#: Injuries!!!! Lost our overall best lineman before the season even started to an ACL. Then we had constant injuries all season long. The guys still hung tough.
#hogfbchat
A3 Coming together the first year.. they were young and not well coached.. they worked hard and meshed finally but it took time and patience.. plus our strength and power was lacking #Hogfbchat
A3: always seems to be the stunting teams. Worked hard on it, but still got us at times. Had a hard time in mud/rain games. Apparently screw in cleats aren’t in vogue anymore. Last two games didn’t do great because of it. Needed to shorten down steps. #hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat teams who stunted and played games up front. Had a tendency to lock onto a man instead of following our rules. Fixable mistakes but was the most difficult thing for us
A3: rain...We practiced and played with Noah circling in the ark. game 1, 2 min in Q2 a monsoon set in that had us calf deep in water in the second half. Hard to get constant quality blocking reps when you’re forced to always use barrels in the weight room #hogfbchat
A3: we play some of the most elite teams in the state in our region. Playing them is always difficult. One specific moment would be beating our rivals at halftime and then losing focus and getting beat 42-13. #Hogfbchat
A3: Communication. We run a no huddle, up tempo offense and ask a lot of our center to look to the sideline and communicate the play to the rest of the OL. #hogfbchat
A3: took some time in spring and summer to develop the attitude that I wanted our guys to play with. Once they got it we were in great shape. #hogfbchat
A3 - Making plays in space, not only in the screen game but also playing well at the second and third level in the run game. Struggled with angles at time, Early in the year struggled with transitioning off double teams to next level. #HogFbChat
A3: We weren't very deep, so I'm extremely thankful our guys stayed healthy enough to finish the season. We had one, maybe two guys that could step in and play in case a starter went down. #hogfbchat
A3: 2nd year in the program with 2 returning starters, remembering what they learned from previous year, position changes, and getting two guys back from significant injuries from the previous year. With that gelling together as a unit. #HogFbChat
A3: we got really good at blocking’s he first level, but we struggled with getting to the 2nd level. I will take the blame though as I stressed so much the first level as from the previous year we struggled with penetration from the DL. #Hogfbchat
A3: Our most difficult part was gaining confidence. Took the blame for a lot, but they fought and held together all season. We found our “play” (counter), and we just built off of that. Looking forward to see how our returners develop this offseason! #hogfbchat
A3: Depth was our biggest issue all year, across the board. Very talented senior class, very small junior class. So we relied on a lot of sophomores, two upfront. Young pups and lack of depth led to some inconsistencies early on in the season. Set a good foundation #hogfbchat
A3: really lacked experience to begin. Had one kid with a previous start. Two that had never played. Issues with continuity during the season due to injuries or off field issues. Plus, it was their first year in the offensive system. #Hogfbchat
A3: Watching guys have to come to grips and accept the struggle of how hard being a full time OL starter is. The reps, the grind, the detail, all of it. Cool to see them excel, but a tough adjustment. #hogfbchat
A3: the mental load of all the naysayers at the beginning of year after rough start. We are 2A, & 3 VERY good teams in 4A & 5A manhandled our young, inexperienced OL. Feet were held to the fire. Confidence could’ve been destroyed but proud of how they responded & grew #hogfbchat
A1: First year as a head coach for the JV program at the high school I graduated from. Had a lot of ups and downs throughout the season and learned a lot about myself and these kids, yet enjoying every minute of it! Our varsity team made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
A3) Practice schedule was unique but we made it work. There were little moments throughout the season where I would’ve like to see more drill work carryover on film but it’s tough with limited fundy time. #hogfbchat 1/3
A3) cont…Our biggest issue early on was presnap communication, accelerating our feet on contact (when pulling), & replacing our hands. But like I said, I’m super proud of my guys & how they battled. Those things weren’t showing up on film the last 1/3 of the szn. #hogfbchat 2/3
A3) cont…The biggest disappointment was when @IHSAA dropped the ball by leaving us out. You always say “control what you can control” but it’s tough to look your seniors in the eye and not be able to explain that glaring error that the state made. #hogfbchat 3/3
A3: the program I took over had 2 pass plays since 1985 so it was a big time change for these kids to pass block need to continue to improve in that area. #HOGFBCHAT
#Hogfbchat A.3) We had multiple issues this year. Strength and lack of varsity experience being our biggest two. Followed by lack of understanding of the scheme and constant rotation of players trying to find the right fit. Got 4 returning next year though.
A4: Always looking to build the coaching community that I can communicate with! Follows, RTs, shares are all appreciated & reciprocated. Nothing better than being part of a fraternity of coaches that understand the value of big men. #hogfbchat
A3: Complacency at practice. Falls on me to get rid of that. Lack of depth/numbers forced us to get creative with how we repped in practice. Finish was strong. #hogfbchat
A3: depth and buy in. 9 total lineman before injuries. Also had to start from scratch with most of them since it was my first year. Had to teach proper stances, steps, punch, drive, etc and took a while to build that trust #hogfbchat
I’m a newbie!! If we’re being specific, I’m looking to learn ways to scheme up different fronts. We play a lot of 3-3-5, and that can be a headache.
Mostly just want to learn! #HOGFBCHAT
A4: This off season i plan on moving to Texas and coaching down there, so I look foreword to building a network down there and meeting some coaches who are already down there for advice. I’m very excited! #HogFbChat
A4. I want to learn to OLine before I think about moving to this position. If y’all have any advice/tips on what to watch for during practice, film and even games (aside from me watching my guys) send me a DM. Please RT to spread the word. #HOGFBCHAT
A4: always enjoy the knowledge, but I would say what I’m looking forward to most are the friendships/connections and hopefully getting to come talk some ball with some of the #hogfbchat crew!
A4: Looking forward to networking and talking OL play with coaches all over the country. Drill work and video share would be a great asset to many of us - or carefully drawn diagrams on napkins work too!
#Hogfbchat
A4: Love connecting with coaches across the country, hear their stories or way of coaching something, and collaborating on ways to solve problems. Don’t know what I want to see different, just looking forward to chat it up again! #Hogfbchat
A4- I love networking and seeing other people having the same problems I do. At time during the season when it’s not going well you can feel lost but it’s great to get new ideas from coaches with the same problems. Football specific Quick game and screen game blocking. #HOGFBCHAT
A4: I really enjoy the weekly interaction and just discussing this great group of human beings know as Offensive Lineman. I think this is one of the best run chats on Twitter and I'm not sure I want to see anything different. #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#hogfbchat
A4 - What I'd like to see different this year - telling you guys that I'm on a staff again somewhere! Other than that I'm happy with #Hogfbchat Mondays.
A4: Learning new ways to skin a cat from all the hardworking guys on the chat. Wish I got professional inservice for this but it’s not Marzano so it’s not important to these nerds.
#Hogfbchat
A4: Absolutely love the insight & learning that occurs during the #hogfbchat. Plus the gif game is phenomenal. Ya, I’m that guy. I love it all. #hogfbchat
A4: I’m not a rookie anymore so following more coaches and learning as much as I can. Also like to talk with coaches who have some similar issues as us. Low numbers, not mentally tough, not aggressive enough, not staying on blocks...etc #Hogfbchat
I’m a newbie!! If we’re being specific, I’m looking to learn ways to scheme up different fronts. We play a lot of 3-3-5, and that can be a headache.
Mostly just want to learn! #HOGFBCHAT
A4: I just want to learn more. I have met some great coaches through #Hogfbchat and I really enjoy talking ball with them. Can’t think of anything I would make different with the chat.
Networking. Came in handy for us VA HogFbChat guys this year with having contacts for film trade. Can’t wait to see some of the guys at clinics in the offseason #HogFbChat
A4: I really enjoy the weekly interaction and just discussing this great group of human beings know as Offensive Lineman. I think this is one of the best run chats on Twitter and I'm not sure I want to see anything different. #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#hogfbchat
A4: Ideas on building drills for different skills for the OL. How different ones teach different concepts in the run game and pass pro progression. Teaching tempo in drills. #HogFbchat
#Hogfbchat looking forward to learning in my first offseason as a head coach. Would really love to see what guys are doing to work on second level blocking and perimeter blocking for my backs. I know they arent hogs but everyone needs to block right? Love the format
A4: Looking forward to learning & installing Shotgun Wing-T #shamelessplugtomakeWingTfriends. With 3 soph OL returner, really needing to re-sharpen my OL coaching toolkit to help them develop. #hogfbchat
A4: Mainly just here for ideas. We’ve got a great OL coach. Just here to pick the brains of other good coaches. Would like to see scheme based nights so guys can see scheme specific ideas. #hogfbchat
Q4: build stronger relationships that go beyond a computer screen! I want us to understand how much we are blessed to be helping kids. Let’s also work to meet at clinics and share our knowledge. I have had some of you out to my training sessions and I love it. #Hogfbchat
A4: interacting with awesome coaches from across the country. Sharing successes and opportunities. learning new ways to do old things. Love to see some situational questions and in-game adjustments to that or what to call when defense does “blank” #hogfbchat
A1: 1st yr at OC. Senior defensive players playing offensive skill positions. OL was jr's that had never played their positions before. 3 interior guys had never played offense. We made some plays and should've made more. Great learning experience. Potential is there #Hogfbchat
A4: maybe do a clinic update every week starting in late January for “clinic season”.... updates on speakers, who is going to which clinic do maybe we can talk OL face to face. #hogfbchat
A4: Really looking forward to hearing about what has worked well for different programs and expanding my coaching network. It's always a good time to talk ball! #hogfbchat
A4: Just excited to be a part of it. Glad @kenleybyrd told me about this. I’m 23 years old and wanting to learn as much as I can as a young head coach. #hogfbchat
Wing-t out of gun. Lots of unbalanced line to get the stack to move over, but looking for more stuff.
We run a lot of GT counter, buck sweep, power, etc
#HOGFBCHAT
A4. Seeing all the different perspectives on OL play always good to pick something up that other guys take for granted that I've never done or share something I take for granted that others may never have heard of or do #Hogfbchat
A4- The interaction is what I look forward to the most. Love bouncing ideas off of each other. It truly is a special group we have going! I’d like to see groups of us a different clinics as well (Glazier/Nike) meet up for a social/chalk talk! Excited for this season! #hogfbchat
A4: Love talking scheme and technique. Anytime I can pick up new drills or a different perspective on schemes... I’m learning. Mix philosophy in there and you have a pretty great hour on Twitter. Ready to continue learning so we/I can improve next year. Glad it’s back! #Hogfbchat
A4: Always looking for schematic tweaks to fit our personnel. Am also interested in how to utilize practice time efficiently. Like others have mentioned, this is a useful chat! #hogfbchat
A4: Just looking to learn one thing I can take back to our program and make us a better team! As well as hopefully picking up a better gif game! #Hogfbchat
A4: love being able to network with coaches from all over the world in the comfort of my Lazboy while watching wrestling and/or football, I would agree with the use of more video clips of things we are talking about, love the #Hogfbchat and shirts, we need #HogFbchat shirts
A4: I am looking forward to great communication and learning from my coaching colleagues across the country. Just the different tweaks to things that we run (gap, zone, etc.) is helpful for me. #hogfbchat
A4: seeing how other coaches are adapting. I imagine we're all experiencing a depth issue, so how do we stay effective in our position with what we have? I'm excited to read what everyone else has to offer #Hogfbchat
Ever get to any wing t camps out east? I bugged my former OL coach long enough that he's finally speaking at the National Wing T clinic. Glad he's finally doing it! #hogfbchat
A4: Looking forward to great reading material every Monday night to keep ideas fresh in the off season. Even when I miss the chat I get a chance to go back and look at what others have posted. Just want to continue sharing good content by OL coaches for OL coaches #hogfbchat
A2: #HOGFBCHAT
We were blessed to have an experienced oline that we have had for four years. The highlight came in the 1st quarter of the final regular season at home when our back eclipsed the school season rushing record. He came over and hugged each one. Great moment
Completed my first year as a Head JV coach. We went 8-1 on the season and tied for first in our conference. We improved from 5-4. Defensively we decreased points against from 245 points allowed in ’17 to 66 in ’18. Our 4-2-5 defense went on to average 5 Sacks per game. #HogFbChat
A4)
Would love to go over:
Situations. How to block vs x. How to practice vs a team that does x.
Sideline communication
But mostly networking and having a good time with great football minds!!
#hogfbchat
A4: drawings, diagrams, scheme discussion, less about culture and “building toughness”, technique discussions, film cut ups (if available).... things like that. #hogfbchat
A4. I would love to hear about various RPO’s out of pistol / 11 personal packages, and continue to network with the greatest position on earth. #HOGFBCHAT#OLineConsultant
A4: Excited to learn new things from the best in the business. Want to add tools to the tool bag and network with great coaches. Heavy Wing-T background, want to learn how to incorporate some gap/zone scheme to diversify. #Hogfbchat
A4 Cont: Using the #Hogfbchat to network and hook up at clinics and/or conventions. Anyone heading to the AFCA in San Antonio this year? Maybe find a way to create our own break out session??
#Hogfbchat
A4: Great to reflect and think about OL and FB every week. So much knowledge from everyone. It’s a great asset. Look forward to connecting more and learning more and more #Hogfbchat
And that's a wrap for the first #Hogfbchat of the year! Thank you all for being here and participating tonight. Glad to be back and making your Monday night special again. #Hogfbchat
A3: @CoachDingus said it best. Even against the ranked opponents we played, we managed to get to every block, just didn't have the strength to sustain. We will be better at this next year #Hogfbchat
Need someoneto try to convince me that Pin&Pull is superior to wide zone...i keep hearing about it but i just can’t see it. Would love to learn some P&P #Hogfbchat
We are still actively looking for sponsors for the Chat and would be glad to speak to anybody about this process! Lots of exposure and a great way to get your name and product out to thousands! #Hogfbchat
A4: CONTINUING LEARNING FROM ALL YOU STUDS! I’m a freakin scrawny former WR/DB who obviously has zero OL experience. Once I started coaching OL, there is no position I’ve enjoyed coaching more. This chat has been an amazing resource for me that has taught me SO MUCH! #hogfbchat
A4: I am hoping to learn some hand placement buzzwords. So much of the Twitter content is Air Raid and Passing Game right now which is great, but this is where we can share and grow #Hogfbchat
Makes pass pro a headache too...
Can’t run buck because of two a gap threats, and messes our angles up. That’s why we went unbalanced— to try to get good angles
#HOGFBCHAT
A4: help some of us younger coaches get connected with older coaches! Would love to hear different opinions and different ways to do the same thing. #hogfbchat
A1: Young and inexperienced started four juniors on the OLine, got better every week, tow steps forward one back at the first of the season but by the end we were pretty consistent, played physical, was a fun year to watch these young men start to come into their own. #hogfbchat
Please remember to follow as many coaches as you can! Always great for weekly collaborations as well as weekly chats. Don’t forget to check out @coachfisher_rp and the @txhsfbchat on Wednesday nights! #txhsfbchat#hogfbchat
If anybody has any topics or questions they would like on the Hogfbchat or would like to guest host one evening PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out to myself or @CoachDingus through a direct message and we will get it done! #hogfbchat
@CoachDingus always a pleasure! Have a great week coaches and God Bless! It was great to be back! Btw are any of the #hogfbchat brethren goin to the @WeAreAFCA convention this year?
In reply to
@CoachShiffman, @CoachDingus, @WeAreAFCA
I’m also new to #hogfbchat and not an OL coach, so I am trying to better understand the position and learn from other perspectives. Hopefully “steal” an idea or two.
A3. Overall just a lack of minutes. Two guys had played significant minutes. The other four we played were two sophomores and two seniors with limited experience. They really gelled as the year went on though. #HogFbChat
Fantastic first night back! Looking forward to Monday’s until August! I’ve been your cohost Tony Shiffman and we will see you next Monday at 8pm CST #hogfbchat
A4 networking and learning more from all the great football minds. It is an awesome way to connect with other coaches and learn a lot along the way #HOGFBCHAT
A4: always enjoy the knowledge, but I would say what I’m looking forward to most are the friendships/connections and hopefully getting to come talk some ball with some of the #hogfbchat crew!
A4: always enjoy talking scheme and hearing about how other guys handle different fronts. Looking forward to growing my knowledge and understanding of how the OL works #Hogfbchat
Wishing the best to all of those who are still in the playoffs! For those of us in the offseason, let’s continue our grind to get better for next year! #hogfbchat
A2) bonus…First year as JV Co-Head Coach & OC. First time calling plays. We took a JV team that won 2 games last year to an 8-1 record. Lost the one game in wk6 by 4 points but learned from it and played our best ball wks 7 & 8. Couldn’t have asked for a better group. #hogfbchat
Dr. Marques Stevenson O-Lineman in heat and soul! Firm believer that O-Lineman mature into the most respected men in society!!! Glad to see #HogFbChat back in full swing!!! Signing out!! #CallerOfTheHogs
A2: After having a revolving door at multiple positions in 2017 the greatest moment was watching these young men gel and work as one and implement all the things we worked on all spring and summer. #hogfbchat
A3: #HOGFBCHAT
SIZE! our oline was
Rt185, Rg225, c200, Lg295, Lt185
We were super fast and pretty technically sound, but huge lines that just lean on us play after play gave us trouble.!we dodged it until the state quarterfinals, then we ran into a terrible matchup
A3: At the beginning of the season trust. Only two starters back from 2017 our C and LT. Our C would try to do too much because he wasn't used to having others do their job. Once they built trust with one another we grew in leaps and bounds. #hogfbchat
A4: #HOGFBCHAT
I love just talking ball. I especially like looking at everyone’s solutions to problems we all have. Not so distant second is finding clinics and networking relationships that can lead to even more fact finding relationships!
A4 always excited to learn as much as I can about offensive line play. Still a young coach trying to learn how to put my offensive line in a position to be the most successful they can be #HOGFBCHAT
I like a simple Inside Zone when you have guys that really understand good combo blocks, play physically and have good timing. It's demoralizing to a defense when they can't stop simple. Then you trap the 2i or 3 tech to F with them. #hogfbchat
Going through a coaching change. When I was force to step down the guy didn’t know how to continue teaching the zone scheme and the OL looked very bad. Can’t blame them tho
#HogFbChat
Glad it’s back! Worth every bit of that $8 dollars. Can’t sleep on planes anyways. See y’all next week, same time. Good luck to everyone still in it, go win the whole damn thing! #Hogfbchat
A1: 13-1, Lost in CIF D2 Championship. Had to play that game without a 20TD receiver, 1500yd rusher, Starting QB, Starting DE, Starting LG, and a lot of shuffling at the skill positions. Only lost 24-13 and were in it pretty much until the end.
Q2: I think our best moment was getting our back to 275 yards in the first round of playoffs against a team that had only given up one 100yd rusher on the season. #hogfbchat
10-2 lost in semis 67-60. My guys up front had a hell of season. 1500yds rushing (4.6yds/play) and 3200yds passing on 364 attempts only gave up 3 sacks. Losing 4of5 graduating. #FAA#HogFbChat
A1: Hired 5 days before camp. Never met players. Completed staffing in a Sunday. #whateverittakes attitude. 2 new coordinators. 7-3 and bowl appearance. Oh and first time as hc. #HogFbChat
In reply to
@Coach_Oller, @CoachDingus, @CoachShiffman
A4: looking forward to learning again from this #Hogfbchat love how we are willing to help and throw out ideas and network with everyone maybe find a way to identify each other at clinics and things, and maybe get clips of drills at practice
