TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
Hi everyone! Jaime from Chattanooga. Currently teaching Spanish language and culture by day and by night...taking a stand for language learning and clarity on what diversity looks like. #tnedchat

A1- For my students I wish there was an edtech tool to monitor their feelings and mood as we learn. Built in social emotional support for stressed out kiddos. #TnEdChat
A1 I want a voice platform that keeps student data safe and allows students to learn how to code a skill for Alexa, Google Assistant etc...to use for studying! #tnedchat#voicefirst#voiceedu
A1: I wish there was an EdTech product that could listen to a lesson and record all the questions asked during the lesson. Data on ?s the teacher asks and student ?s #Tnedchat
A1: I wish there was an EdTech product that connected all of the tech resources I use in class in a seamless fashion so I don't need to have 2 or more screens up to grade, plan, create. #TnEdChat
A1: let students work on different tasks collaboratively, and that groups were flexible. Certain aspects of it to be on screen and some off. 🧐 That’d be interesting! #TNEdchat
A1: would magically calculate a score for students based on participation, effort, and ability and pull them in for a conference with a parent that cares if they refuse to comply. #TNEdChat

Launchpad classlink! Our school uses it. The kids literally have a dashboard and they click on the icon of the program they want- it logs them in automatically! #TNEdchat
A2 I often wish I was still in the classroom so I could try new things with students. I wish my classroom had time to play and learn new tools #tnedchat
A2. I would like to see a flexible room that is setup with a coffee bar and stations (charging) for Ss to use like in the airports. No more computer labs... #TNEdChat

A2: Of course time, but I also just want to create an open space with flexible seating filled with resources my students actually want to use instead of holding onto things I "might" use! #Tnedchat
You’re welcome! All of our elementary schools have it and it’s run by technology. They’re the ones that set the programs the kids have access to based on teacher request. #TNEdchat
A2: More tech & art supplies. I-pads for drawing, document cam, & smartboard. I love tech & will try anything but without funds or support..😕 #TNEdChat
I'm not sure we need to be kicking the can down the road much longer on data privacy. The consequences of doing so are not yielding positive results. #tnedchat
I wish my classroom had smart walls that could be used for displays screens or whatever, and would change appearance based on the needs of the students. Pretty for @Pinterest doesn’t work for all students. #TnEdChat

I’m the queen of supplies but I haven’t dipped my toe in tech yet, plus my district wants to put a stop to online funding with things like donors choose. #tnedchat

A3: I wish I understood hot to get free money for edtech better. Also, how to code and program better so I can integrate it into my curriculum #TnEdChat
Do the csfirst classes as a starter? that teaches you everything for scratch! My ozobot also has five different levels and the coding gets CRAZY! #TNEdChat
A3- I definitely wish I understood social emotional regulation better! What could the classroom env/tools do to bring ALL learners to a healthy emotional level for learning? #TNEdChat
Until my son is in HS, I probably won't push it. My daughter gets it, so I don't have to worry about it yet. #tnedchat I'm a huge fan of @salkhanacademy because of this weakness!
In reply to
@2footgiraffe, @Gregbagby, @salkhanacademy
A3: Flipgrid
And it's going to happen tomorrow! My daughter uses it in a college class, & she's going to team teach with me tomorrow!
Watch out, here we come!!
#TnEdChat
The worst part is I am always on my Ss about not asking for help, pencils, etc. I am setting a terrible example! I need to #PracticewhatITeach#TnEdChat
A4: I wish the parents of my students would come to my class, would come to the school and see what we do. And if they can't, I wish they could someone connect with their Ss educational experience. #TnEdChat
A4 - I wish more parents watched my classes live stream - I wish they check the online grade program more. I wish I had the time and patience to connect with more parents. #Ihaveissues#tnedchat
A4 I wish parents of my students would empower students to learn, not helicopter but support when needed. Allow students to fall and encourage them to get back...and never ever say bad things about the teacher to their child (ok almost never)-Handle that without the kid #tnedchat
A4- I wish the parents of my students could/would collaborate with me often on their student’s practical skills needs. A homework of sorts, but more general life than academics. #TNEDCHAT
A4: Had better access to internet, tough in rural areas! I also wish they knew how little budget teachers are actually provided by the district. #tnedchat
A4: I wish the parents of my students understood the demands of the teaching profession, and that we truly want to see their child be successful. #Tnedchat
A4: I wish they A) knew how much we care about their child and B) Tried to take alt. perspective about how much they ask T's to take on occasionally. #tnedchat
A4: care and take my side ??? had one recently tell her son that she didn't care if he failed my class ... (she got made at me for issuing a behavior step because he was texting in class - her response to my phone call 'all the other kids do it') #TNEdChat
A5 Look for ways to support education initiatives! Created opportunities for students in their businesses and gave teachers opportunities in the summer to learn skills to help their classrooms- if they wanted that #tnedchat
It’s hard for a lot of these parents to have a hands-off role. What they don’t see is that by circling over their child like a hawk, they aren’t allowing them to learn valuable life skills at an early age when mistakes maybe aren’t as detrimental.
A5: That’s a big one! I wish the public would spend a day or two in our shoes and realize the pressure were under, not only from the state, but also the pressure we put on ourselves to help our students be successful. #tnedchat
A5: Would have access to hear all the good things happening in education on the news at night, in social media, and by educators spreading the word every day. #tnedchat
Invest in their future generation and provide the support needed to prepare our students. Whether it be opportunities, supplies, funding, or volunteering. #TNEdChat
A5:I wish the public would... recognize ALL children are our responsibility. We are a village. But that doesn't mean those who take the mantel to train/guide them deserve to sacrifice for this calling. We are professionals CHOOSING to take this responsibility. #TnEdChat
A5: I wish the public knew that we do not have 3 months off for the summer or get out of work everyday at 3pm. 🙄 Teaching is a year round job & a lifestyle! #tnedchat
In wish the public would better understand what goes on behind the scenes of every lesson. Research, differentiation, feedback, intervention, etc. Part of that falls on us to better share our stories. #tnedchat
Hi Kyle! Yep, I believe in tagging companies that support our educational goals. @ConversantGroup gets to see much of what we do because of them by following #ccslearns#tnedchat
A5- I wish the public would... demand 1. better pay for educators 2.funding for teachers to use in their classrooms. 3. time for students to move at all grade levels #TNEDCHAT
Find stakeholders in our community willing to give their time/materials to help Ss and Ts. #TNEdChat I feel like this is a road we must pave if we want that change.
Celebrate teacher successes when times are good and not beat teachers up when times are bad a.k.a. Sputnik or https://t.co/OjVColgP2q boom. A little much? #tnEdChat
A5 Get informed. Listen to the experts not the talking heads. Engage and collaborate. Provide opportunities for training, internships, and summer programs. #tnedchat
A5: Be required to volunteer in a neighborhood school a certain amount of hours per year. Not only would they actually understand the immensely challenging work we do, but they might become advocates and supporters to making edu better. #TNEdChat
A5 How? Share ALL the time. Tiwtter, Facebook, Podcasts, video news, bring them in and celebrate our cimmunities. It's a synergy that has to start somewhere. #tnedchat
A5) understand that all students can not master every item every nine weeks and that our timelines that have been set for schools should be removed so the students can master the information and not be moved on #tnedchat
A5b and once again...ASK! many businesses don't know how to get involved but are willing but need to constantly be informed of the value they bring #tnedchat
Q6: Bring multiple views to the table- teachers, students, parents, business leaders to hear what the needs are. You can't make everyone happy but you can make everyone a part. Agency matters. #tnedchat
A6: I feel strongly on this one. I wish we could do away with 22 credit/Carnegie unit/traditional transcript requirements and do what works instead. #tnedchat
A6: I wish policy makers would spend time in all types of classrooms, public, private, elementary, secondary, rich, poor, - I think they need accurate data for their research before making major decisions. #TNEdChat
A6: I wish policy makers would TAKE THE TIME TO SPEAK TO US! Like actually come to our schools and speak to us. And not just one school in their district. Ask us pointedly our needs. #tnedchat
A5: I wish policy makers would come up with a comprehensive new plan before scrapping a current one. I hope this recent Florida policy change isn't the start of a new trend. #tnedchat
A6 Ask teachers, educators their opinions first and then game it out to see why they believe the way they do. We have a great deal of time and expertise invested in these kids, schools, communities. #tnedchat
A6: I wish policy makers would trust teachers to be professionals and quit using them as scapegoats, support teachers in public instead of shame them, GIVE ME MORE MONIES 💵💵💰💰 #tnedchat
It definitely makes more sense for teachers to recruit the support they need, verses people donating items that have no use. . . We seek to be intentional allll the time- this should be included. #TNEdChat
A6- I wish policy makers would make my answer to A5 a priority. “1. better pay for educators 2.funding for teachers to use in their classrooms. 3. time for students to move at all grade levels” #TNEDCHAT
A6 I wish policy makers had experience in the area they are generating policy for. If not, purposefully engage for extended periods of time. Edu is not improved by the quick fix. #tnedchat
A6: I was lucky, this year I was able to get letters detailing my experience a teacher in the hands of @BetsyDeVosED and @BillLeeTN It’s important that policy makers hear our voices as #teachers#TnEdChat
