Q1: Does your school/district offer any programs during the summer to help students prepare for next year?
Summer Mondays/ - gotta love it! How about you?
Are we talking Summer Slide for teachers or kids? Lol!
What part of St. Louis do you live in.? I lived there for 2 yrs. a long time ago.
You inspire me! :-) Wish I could be joining you in Denver. You guys are going to have a blast!
A1: We only offer migrant intervention, and severe IEP support, of course we have a free meal program
University City - And I love it! Never lived in a city before and we walk everywhere. Where were you located at?
A1: Our district offers summer classes for Ss who are somewhat behind.
A1: Ts get to recommend Ss who should be included in the program. Runs the month of July in the mornings.
Q1: Does your school/district offer any programs during the summer to help students prepare for next year?
Ahhhhh! What a great place to be tweeting from! Glad to see you enjoying the gift of summer! :-)
A1: Our system does not offer summer programs.
I lived in the western part, Creve Coeur. Not close enough to much to walk but I loved what St. Louis had to offer.
Looks like such a fun activity, Erica. I sure the boys loved it. What is their fav flavor?
Q2: What about within your community? Are there programs run by local library, Kiwanis, others to keep Ss learning?
I wish ours had more for the kids who need it.
Just posted Q2. Do you see it?
Going to head out early as the little one was up several times last night.
A1) My district offers a program where kids can learn things in a camp like format passion based learning
That sounds amazing! Is there a fee?
Very nice! We are only minutes from Creve Coeur. Actually shop there quite often!
What is Pokemon? I’m not much of a snowball fan, but that intrigues me.
Aawww! How is that sweet baby?!
Hello I am late. Finishing hw. Our school has a summer prg. for Ss needing extra support & on IEPs & a Summer EdTech Camp 4 a wk
Q2: I think the Boys/Girls club and Girls' Inc do some programs for those who are members.
A2: Our parish (county) libraries host summer reading challenges. Barnes and Nobles has events during the summer geared toward Ss.
I wish we had a Barnes and Noble close by! We would all love it!
Q2. Our local library offers a summer reading program .
A2: Lots of private/catholic schools hold summer camps on their campus. We usually do too, but working on building this yr.

Taking an Assistive Technology course. Very interesting https://t.co/VfTm3EI0xj
What kind of homework are you working on?
Ah, I bet it is beautiful there. I’ve been to the Cape when I used to live in the Northeast.
Q3: I can keep in touch via GoogleDocs! We worked together this way during the year. I'm so happy our system got Google logins!
A:3 Next yr I am going to establish reading clubs for Ss Wish I would've done that this summer 😞
Hey there’s our friend, Jerry. Thanks for always sharing your links with .
It is a beautiful place to live & work . I'm blessed! https://t.co/szIxupIPGO
Ah, I bet it is beautiful there. I’ve been to the Cape when I used to live in the Northeast.
A3: I’m sending out notices about interesting things I’m finding for Ss to do over the summer.
I would love to hear more about that! I'll bet it's interesting. Is it online?
Which tool will you use next yr when you do this?
Is this for your incoming Ss or past?
I never thought of doing that with the teachers I coach. Lots are coming to my math training in August.
i'll probably have them come in in person if possible and Padlet, kidblog or Google Apps if not
Great idea! I have to figure out how to get all parents to sign up. The kids would love that!
That’s for my past Ss because I don’t get new rosters until right before school starts.
Thank you! I am excited about going back into the classroom and setting up something next summer as well!
Q4: Do you or your school send home summer homework packets or reading lists with the students?
A3: I use Google Classroom to connect in summer & Ss help out as Helpdesk Ss.
Thank you.. my teachers wanted to keep contact with past Ss as well. I think that is great idea!
I’ve tried using over the summer with Ss, but it wasn’t too successful.
Ps like that is an app & seem willing to connect https://t.co/BSwf1jV85q
Great idea! I have to figure out how to get all parents to sign up. The kids would love that!
The Help Deak is a great idea. Do the kids take advantage of it?
It would be cool to have Ss make digital postcards of summer adventures using Google drawings and share in clsrm or edmodo.
When I find something interesting online I just share it with Ss and Ps via .
Same here so that is why I am excited about your idea of using
A:4 No summer homework!!! 👎 We used & organizer for books to read this summer 👍
I used in past summers & only a few Ss connected. https://t.co/SAJWdPfcu4
I’ve tried using over the summer with Ss, but it wasn’t too successful.
That's awesome. Do you hear back from anyone after they receive your post?
great idea https://t.co/vOfGbkCcRg

Hi, Scott. I missed seeing you here until just now. How’s it going? Teaching any dance moves this summer. LOL
It just seems so much easier. Even if it’s late at night when I find a “gem”, I can schedule the .
I’m surprised Ps don’t need a chauffeur’s license.
A4: No homework- I encourage reading and writing...
Q5: If so, what happens it the Ss doesn’t complete the assigned summer homework?
I feel qualified to be chauffeur just from experience!
A4: We have required reading and math packets on some gr. levels.
Q6: If you could send an email to all of last year’s Ss what suggestions would you make to keep them learning over the summer?
Love this resource, Paula. Some great ideas on there! Thanks for sharing.
A4) I stand with for My 5th grade team has a web site with book recommendations and math games.
A:6 I'd ask open ended questions, I would tell them about books that I'm reading, and I would ask them what's going on?
A6 - I keep in contact w/ Ss via email + Google Classroom. I post educational info of museums, libraries, fun links, etc.
A6: I would say find 3 things you love or want to learn more about...organize the infor and share/present to a friend or me!
A6: No packaged summer HW, but we do encourage reading and math practice happen everyday.
Moving forward.. great way to say it! Thank you!
I love the personal touch. Kids really need that.
Q7: How many of your Ss travel more than 200 miles from where they live over the summer? Where would they go?
Having Ss do something they are interested in will engage & excite them. https://t.co/BYXlEfNXHV
A6: I would say find 3 things you love or want to learn more about...organize the infor and share/present to a friend or me!
TY. I’m moderating and we’re discussing preventing the summer slide.
we spent too much time building a relationship not to ask them what's going on first.
A7: My Ss could go to the AL beaches and the panhandle of FL and many of them do.
A6) To keep reading and pursue their wonders and questions. Kind of like for summer thinking
So many wonderful things to do and see around the NOLA area. I hope lots of my Ps and Ss take advantage.
A7: A few kids may go to Nashville, TN or Chicago. Many don't travel out of Indiana.
Q8: Does your school have any “family nights” during the summer? If not would you be supportive of this idea?
That’s what I missed the most when I lived in St. Louis - an ocean. I’m a beach kinda gal.
A8) Our school tried this & the attendance was 2 low 2 keep it going. :( I think it just needed some tweeking.
A8: I would love to see our school host a "family night” a couple of times during the summer.
I'll bet we would make great beach buddies. From here you have to travel 12 hours to get to an ocean!
A8:Wouldn’t it be fun to have “Camp Out Night” on the school grounds. Hot dogs, watermelon, reading with flashlights in tents.
Sorry to rub it in...I have about 5 min. to beach https://t.co/8AMPBaMFWf
I'll bet we would make great beach buddies. From here you have to travel 12 hours to get to an ocean!
Q9: If you had to guess, what percentage of your Ss will find ways to keep on learning on their own this summer?
I'm so happy to have this amazing PLN to keep me inspired and motivated all year long! No summer slide for me!
lol! I would really enjoy that. Do you go several times a week?
Rub away. I’m not jealous, I’m not jealous, I’m not jealous. Okay, I really am jealous. LOL
. Definitely! Sometimes just for dinner
A9: I would guess about 15%- the ones who have parents who make it a priority. But I will reach out tonight to sts on GDocs!
A9: I’d like to like 75% on more of my Ss would pursue something they are passionate about over the summer.
Send me a pic sometime! I can dream!
A9: Those who want to read will! I think the % is high to cont. to learn/read all summer
A9: I’m hoping lots of my Ss will beat the summer slide and read some good books this summer. https://t.co/YHT6gCR9RD
Virtual applause to for being a great leader- and we are missing our other co-moderator, !
