Well, I worked w/ & to start these 4 years ago. We just wanted one chat to celebrate teachers.
Andrew here. I found this chat back in high school when a group of Ss and I were fighting for a re-investment in KY's schools.
Merrit here from SC. Im joining the team for my Gap Year. I started chatting when school started last fall
. One chat became 2...3....4 years later! Unreal. We met in person, started a nonprofit...
Is running for re-election? https://t.co/hAalgU0Qib

Max R here! I started about a year and a half ago when started working with
Yes! Meeting you has been one of the most incredible parts. UAE, UK, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and more have joined.
This organization has grown so much, but let's be clear. This was only a "think tank" phase.
Connected with in June of 2013 and participated in my first chat a week later. How time flies.
The hashtag has been a place for students around the world to build a community around taking back their schools.
Seeing groups like , , & form over the years has been one of the highlights for me!
It is truly amazing to think how a hashtag can be the glue and the people and relationships is what makes the movement !
I got invited to an early chat 4 years ago. Never left. Wrote a lot of important docs at some point.
Yes! https://t.co/FkDlOmcbgp
A5: Students are engaged when content is meaningful, make it important to the students
as a student extremely passionate about edu, I found out about the chat back in 2012. Felt empowered as a student.
Never would have thought we'd still be here after four years when I first e-met and co back in high school. Time flies!
The deck is stacked against us when it comes to having our voices heard in school. attempts to reshuffle that deck!
At work but it's great to see the amazing things has been to, great to reflect back to my time with
Happy four year anniversary ! Super powerful to see this hashtag come to life. Great work all around! 👏🏾 & team!
. From our weekly reports, GoogleHangouts, radio recordings, reflections in the Hilton - the list goes on :)
Amen. We really got to know students from across the US. It'll make the next phase of our org so incredibly authentic.
Thank you! Movements like found their footing on . So grateful.

David from MD. Here. Had the displeasure of growing up with ;)
Incredible to see how this movement grew and developed over the past four years
Q1: What does student voice mean to you?
Congratulations, ! So grateful to have met the amazing , , , and thru
Never thought twitter chats would blossom into developing a community! Shows what's possible with intent & commitment!
Is it nostalgia night on ? I’ve got much blackmail to share!
Another awesome sign of progress...TONIGHT students in my hometown are fighting to make sure their voices are heard & respected.
Student organizing is hard. No professional experience or training, in class 35 hrs a week and our shelf life is short. .
You made us believe it was possible. Debt of gratitude for you & being among those who said we could.
to me means making those most invisible in our schools and communities...visible.
Student voice means making sure EVERY. SINGLE. VOICE. is heard, respected, and responded to.
I guess it's being our web developer that did this to him...
And, best part... when community & convo in social extend into on-going relationships! I still learn every day from !
Student Voice means that students are at the center of conversations involving their education and communities.
. treating students as partners is . That means students in school gov and being listened to by politicians
Q1 it means my voice & experiences matter.
A1: The rising importance of in making & creating future of education. great leaders like
. Empowering students! They're the biggest steak holders in edu and are often left out of big conversations
Student Voice to me means authentic speech, listening & ACTION. It cant just be superficial.
It means that they are not merely talked over and planned over, but are represented as a key stakeholder
The one thing students must remember is that we can always claim to be experts in our own experiences. And that matters.
Allowing learners of all backgrounds to express how they can best use their talents.
To me, student voice means community. It means working together to make an impact, to enact change and to be heard.
. Empowering students! They're the biggest stakeholders in edu and are often left out of big conversations
Student Voice means providing every student their own opportunities to get the most of their education
. I was just looking through my ”Daniel Kao!” Folder :-)
:) people like you & orgs like have assured me the necessary work will get done.
it means that students are leading the conversation on the future of education
Congrats to four years! You were there for us in the beginning. Amazing what a hashtag can do! https://t.co/df8emqOUTl
It's time to celebrate FOUR YEARS of weekly Twitter chats! Please introduce yourself and share how/when you found the chat.
isnt just about students on school boards or students voting. Its about the philosophy that schools must stop feeling like prison
yes! Joining & for the year for some exciting things 🎉
A1: Not only about recognizing voice but recognizing the idea of agency. Even the most quiet students thrive when given choices.
we are all old as dirt...
ALL students taking part in constructing their school atmosphere. https://t.co/UYq6LLqH5r
Q1: What does student voice mean to you?
Q2: what is the role of student voice in shaping education in the past, present and future?
A1: Student voice means students have an equal say in issues that affect them. School should be a democracy, not a dictatorship.
A1: A decision or policy affecting that doesn't include is a bad decision or policy.
it means all voices are valid. All voices are needed
Like for real. is now a TEACHER! How crazy and awesome!?
In the past 5 months we have been to the most rural and most urban school districts across the country with one goal...to listen.
In the past, was often ceremonial at best. Now it is increasingly respected. Soon it will always be responded to!
A1: student voice puts learning and development and organizing and democracy in their rightful place: with the students
It is called :-) I was looking for the one-pager to post to on our shared work!
Students in the past took the place of their parents in protesting for civil rights. Hundreds went to jail.
Oh hey ! Can't believe it's been so long
A2: It means that comfort, personalization, and freedom will become stakeholder priorities in the future, not just added perks.
. I think we're only looking up from here! I see students being more in charge of their edu, not less.
A2: Students are in the classroom everyday. We know what works and what doesn't work. We see things teachers don't.
Ss across the country are fighting for funding, arts, and free speech. Against corporal punishment, school to prison and much more
student voice has always been neglected but students are the sleeping giants of edu & I intend to help wake them up
Right! Can't ignore that students have resisted ceremonial role of voice in past. A new uprising is occurring.
Merrit will be an amazing team addition! Excited for the future of the movement!
A2: belongs at the design table of future of education, unlike our past. It's time we learn and hold at the core of edu
A2: belongs at the design table of future of education, unlike our past. It's time we learn and hold at the core of edu
A2: stuvoice plays a critical role in interpreting/articulating education injustices and triumphs, of the past, present, & future
I imagine a country where students are supported as PARTNERS in improving our schools. Not just passive consumers.
in the past, was frowned upon as was any other "voice". Now students are spearheading movements like this very one.
4 years of telling you it's time to get a handle without an underscore -- another thing to continue after chats end
Congrats on four years . Great organization doing great work.
right now, stuvoice is helpings us realize what works & what doesn't work inside the classroom
What if students are told how school skills help them now rather than just in the future? Students are not JUST future leaders.
Hey : to what extent are students and youth involved in the important design work you do in ?
A2: act as advisers to anyone speaking on behalf of, or making policies or decisions affecting, students
Policy makers have no incentive to make policy thats in the best interest of students. Let's give them one.
Thanks, Josh! Without it I would not have met you. You're going to carry the torch.
and work with teachers and other stakeholders on things they see that students don't
Why do some states spend more per student on incarceration than they do on education? Our priorities are BACKWARDS.
