Opening the doors to #NYEDChat so we can greet #NewYear2019 in style with a chorus of voices from our #PLN. @blancaedu/I are moderators 4 tonight's fast chat: 3 questions plus a reflaction (reflection with action steps) on "The Power of Intentionality to Guide Our 2019 Journeys"
Hi #PLN friends, I am Carol ELA Consultant from Long Island and Wonder Lead Ambassador for @Wonderopolis ready to lead #NYEDChat with my bestie, @blancaedu. Please join us in raising our voices into the Twittersphere.
#NYEDChat Fred from BC (Canada), semi-retired but still active as a math mentor teacher and teacher teaching-on-call. Interested in all things math especially while loving to play with words. Teaching is not my job, it is my passion! Getting better at it, that's my job!
Good evening fellow #NYEDCHAT community and Happy New Year! Excited to get started on life's journey this year. Join us for "the Power of Intentionality" starting now.
We'll be using the standard Q1/A1 format in tonight's #NYEDChat. Get ready for a half-hour of engaged learning and great conversation as we #CelebrateMonday 2019 with our colleagues.
Q1 #NYEDChat Is there a positive direction you will engage in this year to bring about change in who you want to be and/or how you want to live in 2019? Explain.
#NYEDChat A1: My #onelittleword might be “Care” this year. As a vision statement it is simple enough to guide action & reaction. I don’t have my own classroom, but ‘visit’ many. If “care” guides me, these diverse students will read this before anything I say or even do. Pt 1:
#NYEDChat A1: pt 2: Likely it is doing & speaking in “care” that will be ‘read & remembered’ by the students. I’ll sprinkle the word on walls, in planning books, & compose some poems & other crystalizations to deepen the impact.
A1: My positive direction will be to always push forward. My primary 2019 goal is to push myself outside of my comfort zone as much as possible.
#NYEdChat
A1: My journey so far, in 2019, has been filled with mindfulness and meditation. I have set out to find my inner peace and inner voice. I am loving it so far. #NYEDChat
A1: My positive direction is to go deeper with my work I may not be able to impact as many but it will definitely make a larger impact. I'm also working on #minimalism and so far it feels great. #NYEDCHAT
Q1 #NYEDChat Is there a positive direction you will engage in this year to bring about change in who you want to be and/or how you want to live in 2019? Explain.
#nyedchat I like how perspectives can change our perception of 'the best' that can happen. Sometimes it needs to be turned on its head to truly grasp significances.
I've committed (and stuck with) learning from others through posts and videos on how to be more mindful. Now more than ever it is sticking! How do you stay on track? #nyedchat
It all started to fall into place years ago when I started my teaching day with a 3-word meditation (daily). Breathe in 3 words that represent your soul's goal for the day. #NYEDChat

A2: Setting intentions for the upcoming year give us a constant guide as we hit our trials and tribulations. We can constantly reflect, iterate, and progress.
#NYEdChat
A2: By setting an intention 4 elf-change w my #oneword#embrace, it becomes my guide on my journey. Resolutions get lost along way but my #OLW is there-I keep noticing it. Intentionality is imp in meeting goals. #hope was my word last year and it served me well. #NYEDChat
#NYEDChat A2: As creatures of habit & culture. Intentionality = only way to break through & sensitize to habits we want to change. Having a rich, crystalized focus that we dwell on, think of in diverse situations, reflect upon after action/reaction --> impels us to grow.
I'm a firm believer in having "accountability partners". So many people out there are striving to get better at something. Why not succeed, together? #nyedchat
A2: The most important word here is intention (to me). It must become a purposeful act and be done mindfully to become part of who we are. To attach it to our soul, we must live it and breathe it. #NYEDChat
A1: Meditation and being present will be my tools to stay focused and be present at all times. Not an easy task but I will be mindful to make all efforts necessary. #NYEDChat#sel#mindfulness

A1: I want to be more intentional about everything I do but specifically I recently started a non profit and I want to get it up and running. With this, I hope to help a lot of kids become more empathetic and tolerant of the world around them. #NYEDChat

Recently discovered and have been using the @Headspace app. It's been super helpful to get me centered and focused on being present and mindful of when I'm not. #nyedchat
A2 #NYEDChat I recently had an accident and was forced to rest and care for myself. It may have been the first time in my life that I put myself first. It was very difficult but it was a learning experience. I am going to try and continue to make self-care a priority.
A2 When I take care of myself and feel ‘on the beam’ I can take of others as well. I am an avid runner and avid reader so I find a good balance. I also find tremendous comfort, love and support with my personal family that spreads to my school family. #nyedchat
A3 Using #one word has become a ritual and routine for me each January? I think about my word, write about it, follow it, and hope that it follows me to lead me to becoming a better version of myself. #NYEDChat
A3: I think 1 word is good to help stay on track and keep from too many divisions in one's focus. The key to remember is that it will be great for some and others will need to take their own path.
#NYEdChat
A3: My One-Little-Word is the guide and inspiration for my goals and my direction each year. It is written where I can see it throughout my daily existence. #NYEDChat
A3: I used #oneword2019 with my Ss too& it’s powerful. Wrapping it up succinctly is hard. They hacked me several times. Can I use more than one? To really believe in something&state in one word is powerful! #NYEdChat
A1 My intention this year is to be present. This will carry over in my teaching during workshop-talk less & listen more! Think about what they are saying more before I jump into, “what can I teach you” mode. #NYEDChat
Q1 #NYEDChat Is there a positive direction you will engage in this year to bring about change in who you want to be and/or how you want to live in 2019? Explain.
#nyedchat A3: I have always found power in simple crystallizations that embody rich meditative power to change. Like @cvarsalona 's "embrace". What would "embrace your report cards" look like? How might you be approaching assessment differently with this #OLW focus?
#NYEDChat A3: For the past two years, my #oneword is set in September to create a framework for the upcoming school year. This year I wanted to enter my goals conference w/just my #oneword. My supervisor thought it would have been a good idea - not sure how Danielson that is...:)
A3: I like the one word challenge and using it to keep me mindful. I haven't ever used it but I would like to try. But I like to try a lot of things. Maybe my #oneword should be one... #NYEdChat
Many teachers at my school are using the one more chance to talk about refocus in the new year. We are planning an advisory activity around it. #Intentionality#nyedchat
Reflaction: Not something new for this year, but I purposefully built and maintain a PLN that pushes me and helps be be constantly reflective for growth.
#NYEdChat
A3: My #oneword2019 is intentional. I love the process of designating a word for the year. I feel that it holds me accountable. In this case, I will be deliberate about making plans and sticking to them. #NYEDChat
Reflaction: I will keep creating digitals and blog posts about my #oneword so that I embrace all the changes that come my way. I think there are going to be many. #NYEDChat
A3 For the past few years, at our first faculty meeting for the year, I give everyone fancy origami paper and choice of pen for their ‘one word’ to be displayed inside their door to be intentionally reminded every time they see it. My #oneword is also embrace, Carol. #NYEDChat
#NYEDChat A4: In those meditative times, those pauses or STOP moments, reflect on how your actions/reactions of the hour/day reflected your #OLW. For me, did I show "care" in my planning, my greetings, my interactions, my honouring et al.
I think this idea may work for me @cvarsalona Even if I don't share it publicly I think keeping a digital artifact of my #oneword (once I figure out what it is) will keep me focused #NYEdChat Thank you for your words.
#NYEDChat This PLN could help each other with humorous reminders of us seeing your #OLW in your tweets/blogs
Doing this would show I 'care' & will 'embrace' this activity of 'accountability' ...
