I was hoping to go to Euro Itchy and Scratchy Land, but the trip got vetoed after the kids saw that Simpsons episode and found out that it was lame. #makeitreal
What's up #MakeItReal friends?!?!?! I'm so excited to join you tonight! @MathDenisNJ's hexagonal precipitation needs to find a new home though!

Q1: The Ghost of School Year’s Past takes you back to the best year of your teaching career for you to see. When was it, and why was it the best? #MakeItReal
A1: Every year it's that year (exc my 2nd yr-whew that one was a doozy). So right now, the best year of my career is this year. I'm constantly trying to better myself & work harder to get to know my Ss so every yr is my best year. Next yr will be better than this one. #MakeItReal
A1: My first year teaching in El Paso (had been my 3rd year in the profession). Personally, it was the hardest for me as I was diagnosed w/ cancer, but it was the best for me b/c I realized just how important RELATIONSHIPS are. I hold those times in my heart forever! #MakeItReal
Q1: The Ghost of School Year’s Past takes you back to the best year of your teaching career for you to see. When was it, and why was it the best? #MakeItReal
A1: my last year or so. I didn't know I would leave the classroom and didn't have plans to- loved teaching! I had people around me who were collaborative and pushed me to be better, and I loved that environment. #MakeItReal
The best year for me was last year, and for a number of reasons. Most important of which was the effort I put into building relationships with my Ss. #MakeItReal
Wow! It's amazing how the best year may not have anything to do with instruction, achievement, or position, but relationships and growth make it great! #MakeItReal
A1: Most days. When I see the kids faces light up. Yes, hard to believe that MS kids smile, but they do. When we reach their heart and recognize their voice has great value. Helpful after a frustrating day like today. #makeitreal

Elissa, math Supervisor from nj, arriving late but I can’t wait to see my kids on Christmas (they are 2 and 5 so it should be magical this year!) #MakeItReal
#MakeItReal A1 Mark Goodman answering my email in 2013 to speak in a FaceTime conversation with my 1980s class. It opened up the door to get other people of history to join us. Mr. Goodman will join us for a 6th time this Friday.
A1 - My best year was probably my second or third to last year in the classroom. I had a fun class, a close teaching team, and I felt more confident with what I was doing #MakeItReal
Q2: The Ghost of School Year Present takes you to something occurring in your teaching life now, but out of your sight. What does he reveal to you and how do you react?

Yup. They are the best. We have two who are awesome human beings. They do not get enough credit. I told a parent today that I appreciate the kids more than most adults. They are the highlight of my day. #makeitreal
Chris from Indiana!
Looking forward to spending lots of time with my immediate family! 4 kids under the age of 10 - special time for them (and my wife and me too)!

Hi Chris, Welcome to #MakeItReal! Fantastic goals for break :) My 4 are 14, 12, 7, 5 and I'm looking forward to that time too! Where in Indiana? I'm visiting 3 times this summer! #MakeItReal
A2: He takes me to see what my Ss go through at home. For some, it breaks my heart, but reiterates how much it means to remain positive and upbeat day-to-day at school. For others, it makes me proud & makes me want to pull them out of their shells at school. #MakeItReal
A2: I have a new Principal this year and even though I have had limited interactions with him, I can tell he and I generally see things the same way and I'll be supported. #MakeItReal
Awesome! We need that view of a student's perspective on life and school to really understand how to connect with them when we're together! #MakeItReal
A1. I think my best teaching year was when I finished grad school and applied bigger picture matters to my classroom. Really started to grow as an educational leader!
#MakeItReal
A2: @DBlabas looked me in the eyes today and thanked me for all that I do for the kids, and for the sacrifices that I make on a consistent basis. Made me feel like $1 MIL after taxes. We are not looking for much. We just want to hear that we are appreciated. #makeitreal

For sure! Was chatting with my waitress tonight at dinner (mom of one of my Ss) who was sharing how loving, kindhearted, & helpful her son is at home. It warmed my heart; he's so quiet at school. #MakeItReal
Q3: The Ghost of School Year Future is showing you yourself teaching at least 5 years from now. Other than your students, what is different about what you see? How can you take that and #MakeitReal?

R3: that fear doesn't enter into my decision making process. Make a plan and do your research. Feel good about the decisions we make. Not sure why I am writing in this weird cadence. 😋#MakeItReal
A3: I see myself teaching teachers.. I am passionate about ed leadership & want to be impactful on a much bigger scale. If I can impact an entire school of Ss based on my ability to be a teacher's teacher, I've done my job! #MakeItReal

A3: Oh goodness! Great question! I am more willing to let go of control. Even when giving choices through menus and choice boards, I'm still really in control. I'd like to see myself just give control to the Ss (after modeling expectations, of course) #MakeItReal
A3: Keep focusing on building relationships. Learn more card tricks. Increase my repertoire of bacon recipes. YouTube is great for two of these. Talking with Ss is great for the other. #MakeItReal
A2: That the quiet kid in the corner is really getting the content, the loud disruptive kid realizes we care, & at the end of the day, it’s all good.#MakeItReal
A1. Too difficult to pick my best year of teaching. I loved teaching middle school. We had a lot of FUN. I know more now (strategy and philosophy wise) than I did then and it would be neat to see the things I would change if I could rewrite some pages in time. #MakeItReal
The #MakeItReal Winter Break #SlowChat starts tonight!!!! Check it out, share it, and share your tweets for the next couple weeks! Tweets that I love will get a #MakeItReal Sticker and Bracelet!!
A3 I want to be an established school leader, preferably in curriculum. I am ready to put my leadership ideas to work! I just need to get my foot in a door. Moving from the classroom is tough when everyone sees you as the teacher they want their kids to have. #makeitreal
A3 - I hope that through my position as supervisor I can make a difference so that more students love math and see it as a subject that is interesting and possible for everyone. #MakeItReal
Thank you all for an outstanding #MakeItReal chat tonight! Join the Slowchat and enjoy the time you have for break. The #MakeItReal will return on January 2!

That's a great goal for a supervisor. It was mine too! To use your position go grow student love for math and teacher desire for teaching it! #MakeItReal
A3: My learning hasn’t stopped, Imy network of EDUs is phenomenal, and the sky is still the limit for my Ss. Small town doesn’t constrain us or define us. We can change the world. #MakeItReal
Thanks for another fun #MakeItReal chat @MathDenisNJ - you are certainly appreciated! Loved the questions tonight & can't wait to find ways to #MakeItReal in the next couple weeks! Love this community!
Nice!!! Just go ahead and put one of each to the side for me, hahahahaha! Can't wait to watch the #SlowChat to see what comes up in the next couple weeks! #MakeItReal
A3: Hopeful to have hair. Seriously, I would love to have more opportunities to lead. I feel like I have so much to give...I just need an open door to walk through. #makeitreal
