My goal was to revamp our phonics progression and teach the sounds in a logical pattern. Right now we have 4 shared groups working on 4 different sound patterns. It is hard work but it is what is best for kids. All working hard at their level. #1stchat
A1 One of my goals was to integrate more blended learning for Daily 5 and math stations. I have been using @Classkick to support my ss independency. #1stchat

A1: my goal was to be very intentional with my lesson plans, and the use of technology #1stchat I've been good with tech, but with new reading curriculum, I don't feel as intentional
A1. This is my 1st year in 1st (almost 20 in education) so my goal for this year was to become familiar with the 1st grade standards/curriculum. Getting there 😊 My 2nd goal was increase P involvement. I have been using @Seesaw this year. P involvement has been amazing. #1stchat

A1: That was one of mine, too. I’ve been creating task cards with @Buncee to flip or blend my Math and Readers Workshop stations. I’ve been better since January but my plan was to start it sooner. #1stchat

I'm currently taking a class that focuses on the benefits of using technology in the classroom!! If you don't mind me asking, how are you doing this in your classroom? #1stchat
A1: As a first year teacher, I felt as if I was going in blind...without knowing what to really expect. My first goal was to form relationships with my students that extended to outside of our classroom. I believe I have accomplished that goal. It has helped my behaviors #1stchat
A1: Main goal this year was to incorporate more tech into instruction and activities. I’ve done pretty well but need to expand the variety of tools I use and increase the levels SAMR. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. #1stchat
A2 Finding resources. My class was created as an overflow. I am constantly searching for materials. I have been using a lot of tech - streaming read alouds, recording into @Seesaw for HFW and independent stations #1stchat

A2: At the beginning of the year, I really struggled with finding and implementing stations for my students to work on while I was doing guided reading that they were able to do independently. I now do 1 round of literacy stations and 1 daily 5. #1stchat
@Classkick has been such a great tool & time saver. I love hearing my voice all over the classroom. It's like I can be at many different places at once:) #1stchat

A2: I love that my students think of themselves as readers now and love reading. I still have some that aren't there yet and they will be my focus now. The others are becoming more independent and that's fun to see #1stchat

I have been giving them more opportunities to write authentic pieces. I struggle with knowing where to step in with craft, mechanics and corrections I don't want to distinguish their writing but I want to prepare them for 2nd. Thoughts? #1stchat
A2: What works for me in reading is having the same games at different levels for my students. That helps them not be “jealous” of wanting to play some else’s game if it’s not the right skill for them. #1stchat
Q3 I’ve been challenging my kids to “kick it up a notch” in their sentences- adding more detail. It’s been exciting to watch their daily journals and overall writing grow! #1stchat
A3: I’ve been really intentional about conferencing with my students after they complete their four square (prewrite). I added paper books in my writing station and my firsties LOVE to write all of a sudden! #1stchat
A3 We've had a lot of growth in writing this year. The biggest writing challenge is in the area of "elaboration". That's what we need to focus on for the remainder of the school year. #1stchat
A3 My students are starting to get really good at writing openings. We are still working on providing evidence and voice. Most of my Ss are writing complete sentences. Editing is really hard for them. Does anyone have any ways to help Ss with this skill? #1stchat

A3: Writing has been a challenge this year. Much more than last year. I’ve had to slow the pace a bit more and do more guided writing practice with this group. #1stchat

I have my Ss take a pic and read their journal writing to me in @seesaw so their Ps and I can see the growth and make comments #1stchat it's also a great way to see what they meant to say vs. what they wrote #1stchat
A3: I have had so much success with Writers Workshop this year. My kids kept asking for comic book pages and blank paper for book making. Now I have an revamped writing center with copy paper, comic pages, interview forms for biographies, poem forms, etc. They love it! #1stchat
Usually I show my students a comparison of their writing from beginning of year to end of year. I just might do that sooner so they can see how much they've grown and how much they still need to push themselves. #1stchat
This seems like a great idea, especially for the reason of seeing what they meant to say vs. what they had written. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing! #1stchat
A4: math is a strength for my kiddos this year. I do 4 centers, journal-game-tech and me it's working well and I can teach each group at their level just like reading #1stchat
A4: We have added math talks this year to start our math time off. I have seen such a difference in their ability to explain their thinking and their math knowledge. Tweak presentation of diff types of word problems. #1stchat
A4: My school uses the I Do, We Do, You Do model. I felt as if my students who weren’t as academically sound were not progressing as much as we had hoped. I have added in a small group guided math to hopefully help these students! #1stchat
A4 My math groups are very flexible and fluid. I don't do rotations so it gives me freedom to spend as much time with those who need my support. #1stchat

In one of my math classes, my professor told us that she used to ask her students to "explain their brain," that way she and their peers could see how others would get to an outcome. It also allowed them to talk through their mistakes! #1stchat
A4. We are doing well in math. We use AVMR to assess students and develop materials. @BuildMathMinds has great resources and PD opportunities. We use a lot of game-based learning. Teaching Number in the Classroom (the “Purple Book “) is another great resource #1stchat
Q4 huge learning curve for me this year as we’ve started using Eureka Math. I’m seeing success in my students but I look forward to feeling like I have it mastered 😋 #1stchat
A4: I make sure my students understand and use the word strategy. I keep 120 charts, number lines, and all other manipulatives out all year for them to choose as they work. If they need help they have to explain their strategy and show me how they tried it first. #1stchat
This is another strategy my math professor shared with us. It's cool to see that things I'm being taught in class are being used and are successful with other teachers! #1stchat

Whole group lesson, assignment then ss proceed to a station with a must-do task and choice tasks (I call them math families). I pull groups of students to either enrich or support. I don't meet with my high achieving ss every day but use @Classkick#1stchat
One tool I'm really proud of this year is our Student Self-Assessment board. It has green, yellow & red areas. Students post a note assessing their understanding of topic. We use it for math & writing. Then I can support on the spot. #1stchat
A5: Going on our first google expedition to space on Tuesday. I'm a bit nervous but we are going to write I wonders...as we go to kick off our space unit. I hope technology works correctly. #1stchat

A5 We have been working with flexible seating this year. Students are beginning to make choices based on where they work best. We will be making a flexible seating map this week for substitute teachers. #1stchat
My colleague and I were a little bit lost on some students' performance. We know they are lacking some foundation, but we don't know how to approach it. #1stchat
A4Our school works with the university on a Math Minds project to figure out the best teaching practices! Using whiteboards to continually assess throughout the lesson has made a huge difference in my teaching and their learning! #1stchat
A5: This is my first year doing electronic PLPs on google drive. It’s so easy. My students each have their own folder but I also have one. Once a week they write me a letter in my Mailbox folder and I write back. It’s been fun and quick way to check in with them. #1stchat
We just finished our What I want to be When I Grow Up writing, I geared it towards why this job helps the community as we've been learing about Black History and how brave people changed the world, I want my SS to know they can change the world #1stchat I'll post examples
A5: This teacher is getting excited for a week full of fun and engaging Valentine’s Day activities and celebrating Chinese New Year on Friday! Next week, I’m planning on focusing on the Olympic Games! Whoop whoop! #1stchat
A4: Math is my students’ strongest area overall this year. The best addition to our instruction has been ST Math. It is a computer based program that develops math concepts by using visual puzzles. #1stchat
We also use the @JUMP_Math resources. That combined with the knowledge of ribboning (prompting, monitoring, adapting, connecting) after EACH variation has made me feel way more confident in teaching math! @johnmighton#1stchat
Show & Teach Day in out classroom! We learned how to bake chocolate chip cookies, Valentine Butterfly & Owl craft, and pepper & soap experiment. #spiritlakecsd#1stchat
A5 When the Olympics, 100th day of school and Valentine’s Day happens all in the same week it makes for some exciting learning and so many writing, math and #STEAM#STEM opportunities!! And one very tired teacher by the end of the week 😂 #1stchat
